Very often what God first helps us towards is not the virtue itself but just this power of always trying again. For however important chastity (or courage, or truthfulness, or any other virtue) may be, this process trains us in habits of the soul which are more important still.

C.S. Lewis is the best 🙂

Just a marvelous quote I’m glad I found from one of my favorites. I truly believe the classic spiritual disciplines to be the crux of our success in the formation of godliness. But I absolutely love this “prevenient grace” Lewis alludes to, of always trying again. I get that. I know what desiring to give up feels like but being unable to because something within me won’t die. As the quote goes, “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, try again.” I think I’ll keep trying.
