Benjamin West tells how he actually became a successful and important painter. When he was young, his mother went out and left him in charge of his sister Sally. In the meantime, little Benjamin discovered bottles of colored ink and began to do Sally’s portrait. What a mess soon developed. Finally, when Ben’s mother came home and saw the tragic mess, she said nothing. She merely picked up the paper with the portrait and said, “Why it’s Sally!” and she kissed Ben. Ever since that day, West has said, “My mother’s kiss made me a painter.”

ahhh- waht a wonderful mother and influence on that youg impressinable soul. Maythat be a lessons for us all- we are to bolster eachother and encourage our God-gien gifts in each other.

Our children are gifts from God whom we never own but are trusted to care for until they are able to make it in the world themselves, even then, we can’t help but love and care for them. This is a wonderful example. I’m reminded of my eldest son when he was very young decided he wanted to dress himself for school, what he chose did not match but he was so proud…now he is in medical school 🙂
