We spent a morning visiting the beautiful village of Shere walking around the Church building, blacksmiths & the few shops.

ShereΒ is a village in theΒ Guildford districtΒ ofΒ Surrey,Β EnglandΒ about 6 miles (9.7Β km) east ofΒ GuildfordΒ and 4 miles (6.4Β km) west ofΒ Dorking, bypassed by theΒ A25. It is a small village with many traditional English features. It has a small central cluster of old village houses, shops including a blacksmith and trekking shop, tea house, art gallery, two pubs and aΒ Norman-era church. Shere has a museum which opens most afternoons at weekends. TheΒ TillingbourneΒ stream runs through the centre of the village.

The church is Norman, most being 12th, 13th and 14th century, ofΒ ironstoneΒ rubble with sandstone buttresses, restored in 1895 by S. Weatherley. By the north chancel wall there is a 14th century quatrefoil window and squint – belonging to Anchorite Cell. Friday street is a beautiful peaceful place that Sarah & I love to visit for a walk around the narrow lanes and through the woods to finally end up with a lovely warm meal at the Stephan Langton pub.
