 My Testimony

by Steve

Broken…

Psalm 116:3

The cords of death entangled me, the anguish of the grave came over me; I was overcome by distress and sorrow.

another day, another attempt! ….

Oct – Nov 2000 – Derby, England, UK

I kneel down in the centre of my living room. Tears stain the blade I hold to my chest. ā€œCome on Steve, donā€™t fail again!  All you need to do is throw yourself forwards and thats it!ā€

Iā€™d been doing this every morning for the last couple of months and still I waited, willing myself to do it. Then nudge…nudge.. my three month old Boxer dog ā€œBruceā€ pushed against my leg with his nose. His whimpering cries pierced my very soul. ā€œHe relied on me for everything and I had no idea I would be relying on a furry angel to help me through this dark period in my life.ā€

After a few months of failed attempts I felt more useless than ever….I realised I  didnā€™t have the strength to kill myself or the strength to carry on living. I just didnā€™t know how I could get lower than this!!! –  Iā€™d been registered blind at 24, after loosing my sight quite suddenly. in the same month my mum finally died after a 12 year debilitating and demoralizing struggle with progressive MS. Missing her added misery to my own struggle to come to terms with the isolation and insecurities of managing life with sight loss – Iā€™d lost my job, my custom car, the ability to drive, my girlfriend, nearly all of my so called friends and now i have to struggle with countless problems and frustrations every day!

My answer….

To throw myself into binge drinking, womanising, dark depression, and raw anger. I felt that this was what I had to look forwards to for the rest of my life.

Then I met Sarah…… July 2004 – Birmingham, UK

She wasnā€™t like the other girls Iā€™d met. Sarah too had suffered sight loss and depression because of her uncontrollable type 1 diabetes but no matter how bad things got for her, she always had comfort in someone called ā€œJesusā€. Oh no I thought not a Christian! She suffered all of my taunts, jibes and nasty comments but worst of all my coldness and my inability to show love. I made it a personal challenge to show her that everyone will let you down and no one can be trusted or faithful! I felt that if I could make her hurt as much as I did then sheā€™d hate this Jesus and know that he wasnā€™t real!

Then HE came to visit ME….

Hope…

Psalm 116:4

Then I called on the name of the Lord: ā€œLord, save me!ā€

Iā€™d seen a guitarist called Eric Bibb on the music show ā€˜Later with Jooles Hollandā€™ and called Sarah up to see if she had heard of him too. She hadnā€™t but as a lovely gift she booked tickets to go and see him in London. Iā€™d only ever been to Metal concerts before so i didnā€™t know what to expect.

It was Eric Bibbā€™s ā€œFriendsā€ tour and when Eric started the song ā€œNeeded Timeā€ and sang the words:

ā€œI’m down on my bended knees, I’m on my knees, praying want you come back, come back here?

Even if you don’t stay long, oh my Jesus, If you don’t stay long, I’m praying, Come back here.

Singing Right now is the needed time, I know you feel the needed time right now. Bless us!ā€

This was the moment when I asked Jesus to save me saying ā€œI canā€™t fight any more. iā€™ve not got the strength to kill myself, and i havnā€™t got the strength to live, please save me!ā€

From that moment something happened inside me and I felt an outpouring of my entire being.  My heart seemed to momentarily clear itself of all the darkness, hatred and anger that Iā€™d filled it with replacing this with pure love. I couldnā€™t stop my river of tears for the rest of the show.

February 2013 – Now and into the future – Surrey, UK

Hebrews 9:27

And even as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment.

My eyes are filling with tears as I write this section. I just canā€™t believe Iā€™m sat here typing this. If it was up to me than Iā€™d be dead.

If I had it my way and i did manage to kill myself without Jesus, i’d be spending eternity in Hell for breaking all of Godā€™s laws and being found guilty on judgement day without a Saviour. Iā€™d have missed Godā€™s amazing grace, mercy and living relationship with Jesus.

I came to realised that going blind wasnā€™t my biggest problemā€¦Sin was!

I know He’s given His life so i could live. He’s come down so far to save me it is immeasurable. His blood washed me clean, white as snow. He’s forgiven me all my sins, past, present and future, and there is no more condemnation for me, it is finished…The Truth has set me freeā€¦Which is why now share this Gospel to people reading this blog, or anyone else whoā€™ll listenā€¦As it alone is the the Power of God unto Salvation for anyone that believes.

I still fail to express in words how Jesus is constantly changing me day to day now iā€™m a new creation, born again into His Kingdom. Iā€™ve been given a new heart with new desires. The loneliness that fuelled my dark depression and suicide  attempts has gone! I can never be alone now i have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, donā€™t ask me how but i never feel alone at all.

Two Souls Entwine…..

Our most blessed day! A photo of me and Sarah lovingly looking at each other at Bourne Hall.

Iā€˜ve been married to Sarah for 16 years now and Iā€™m really struggling to put how I feel into words! My heart overflows with love for her. She has encouraged, inspired and loves me in spite of all my faults, she is the sunshine that warms me along my journey. I really donā€™t have the words to fully express how blessed i am to have my best friend as my wife to cherish and share every moment of this amazing life!

Ephesians 5:25-27 The Voice (VOICE)

Husbands, you must love your wives so deeply, purely, and sacrificially that we can understand it only when we compare it to the love the Anointed One has for His bride, the church. We know He gave Himself up completely to make her His own, washing her clean of all her impurity with water and the powerful presence of His word. He has given Himself so that He can present the church as His radiant bride, unstained, unwrinkled, and unblemishedā€”completely free from all impurityā€”holy and innocent before Him.

Each time our wedding anniversary comes round, i canā€™t believe how much our marriage has grown more and more fruitful. Our love keeps blossoming through every season and i thank God for Sarah who is not only my best friend, but my amazing wife! šŸ™‚

I thank God for sustaining our marriage in Purity and Truth.

I thank God for not leaving us alone to figure out what to do, but for giving us, teaching, correction, training and a perfect Holy example to followā€¦to reflect the personal and intimate union between Christ and His Church. The mystery of marriage is its reflection of the oneness of Christ, the Husband, and His Church, the Bride of Christ.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 Amplified Bible

Love endures with patience and serenity, love is kind and thoughtful, and is not jealous or envious; love does not brag and is not proud or arrogant. It is not rude; it is not self-seeking, it is not provoked [nor overly sensitive and easily angered]; it does not take into account a wrong endured. It does not rejoice at injustice, but rejoices with the truth [when right and truth prevail]. Love bears all things [regardless of what comes], believes all things [looking for the best in each one], hopes all things [remaining steadfast during difficult times], endures all things [without weakening].

Love never fails…

I thank God everyday for Sarah as i know i donā€™t deserve her, but God never seems to stop expressing His love! šŸ™‚

Since being registered blind Iā€™ve learned to play the drums and guitar. This is amazing in itself but being able to play alongside Sarah every Sunday to assist myself and others in worship is just mind blowing. I feel so blessed to be able to come before God and thank him with the gifts heā€™s given me.

My Hope…

Hope Logo

If someone like me can be transformed by the reality and power of the Gospel, i know i need to share and make as many people aware of this amazing news of hopeā€¦As Jesus is the  Way, the Truth and the Life and no-one gets to  the Father but by Him. Heā€™s the forgiver of Sins, breaker of chains, and the only Salvation for Eternal Life in Heaven. šŸ˜€

John 3:14-21 New King James Version (NKJV)
14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in Him should not perish but[a] have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

18 ā€œHe who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. 21 But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.ā€

If there is someone reading this who is overwhelmed by guilt, shame,  loneliness or is experiencing the creeping death called depression, then Iā€™d just like to give them hope. The hope that although you may feel that no one cares, you’re condemned for the life you’ve led and that thereā€™s nothing to live for anymore, thereā€™s no pit too deep that God wonā€™t reach down and lift you out of. Growing up no-one told me about Jesus and the Gospel of Good news, Sarah was the first to explain it to me so iā€™d love for  this blog to be a lighthouse shining in a the darkness to help guide you to the loving one who saves.

Please donā€™t hesitate to CONTACT ME if you have any questions about anything mentioned above. šŸ˜€

Here’s a couple of songs that i love to play and sing along too…And i hope they bless you too! šŸ™ šŸ˜€

  2. I know I read this some years back when I first came across your site. Came over from your latest blog to see if I had made a comment and to remember what it was I said. I didn’t find one, so I guess I didn’t leave one then. I noticed I hadn’t like it either, so I’m doing both today. I did read it again, and did tear up, I had forgotten some of the details of your testimony, and yes what a testimony! Big Hugs!

    • Wow thanks so much for spending precious time reading this post again, and another thanks for liking and commenting…Sorry for makingg you tear up again, although every time i read it (even with my robotic screenreader) i also have the tears fall and it’s about me, lol! Seriously it makes me focus on just how far down He had to come to pick me up and put on His clean righteous robes. šŸ™

  3. Steve, this is a wonderfully inspiring testimony. Thank you for shearing your story with such honesty.
    K

    • Hi K! Thank you so much for taking time to read how God saved me, and how he is working in my life. I can’t believe how many people from all over the world have said how it has blessed them…But really it’s blessed me to write and get it out there to places i could never go!
It’s so good to meet you here and i hope you can spend more time having a search around. God bless you. šŸ™ šŸ˜€

  5. Hi Steve,

Thanks for the raw honesty in your testimony. Our God is so big and amazing and you have run fully into His arms of grace. Thanks so much for liking my blog, https://drawingnear.design.blog/. It is heartwarming to see the email after each post that you have liked it. Blessings to you! What an incredible testimony.

    • Awww thank you so much Holly! Thanks for spending time to read the whole testimony (it’s quite long) and for liking and leaving this lovely comment. I still can’t believe He’d save someone like me and adopt me into His family and give me eternal life…All Glory and praise to Him! šŸ˜€

I simply wrote about what has happened to me, it was strange at first as i wondered why i was writing anything at all as it was only my unimportant life. Then i started reading some of the fantastic comments i received and i quickly realised God was in this all along…And He was using it to bless others all over the world. I’m still amazed when someone else reads it (like you) and it deeply humbles me to read the comments on here. His Grace is sufficient and i will boast in my weakness and share all about His Glorious Power! šŸ˜€

Hope you are staying safe and well during this challenging time? šŸ™

    • Awww thank you so much for this kind and encouraging comment. It really does overwhelm me when i read how this page touches and blesses others.

It took a lot for me to write it and i didnā€™t really want to share it publicly, but everyone has been so loving and even inspired to glorify the one who saves, and i canā€™t ask for more than that!! I didnā€™t think that me telling a few things of how Jesus has been working in my life would make that much difference!

God bless you and thanks for spending time to read my testimony…I know it’s quite long, lol. šŸ˜€

  14. Awesome Post. God is truly the God of the impossible. Blessings and peace.

  34. Hi! You are such an inspiring blogger that I have nominated you for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award. http://maryaperez.com/very-inspiring-blogger-award/

  35. Pleasure to meet you Steve ~ my mother was legally blind and she was the most amazing woman I have ever known. There was no stopping her from her goals and accomplishments. Her name was Clara and she raised me on what I have affectionately coined “Clarisms”. One of her favorites was “Can’t never Could”…..the word “can’t” was void of meaning for her. She also had a deep faith and loved the Lord. Anyway, I just thought of her when reading about your own courage and that of your Sarah ~ Sarah is simply precious, by the way. God’s blessing to you both ~ Amen :Y

    • Awww such a lovely comment. Your Mother sounded like an amazing & inspiring woman. I’m also blessed with a precious gift who inspires me everyday with her relentless determination and fighting spirit! šŸ™‚
Thank you so much for taking time to read and leave this lovely comment, it’s great to see you here! God bless you.

  36. What a blessing to read this, my brother. A real blessing.

  37. I am going to have to read your page about blind photography.,, I’ve worked with blind students — had one that earned PowerPoint… still, I can’t imagine how he’d have used a camera…

  38. Your about page reads….ā€œYou donā€™t need sight to see, you need visionā€œ

ā€œI strongly believe that Disability doesnā€™t have to mean inability or lack of creative talent!ā€

There are no truer words Steve….I named my blog and Art business “New Visions.” We should seek new visions in every part of our lives and not rely on a basic concept of regular sight. You can do anything you set your mind to. This message is my mission. Love your blog…carry on!

  39. Beautiful story. Your faith moves mountains šŸ™‚

  40. Steve,

You inspire through the courage, grace and faith with which you live your own story out loud and share your gifts with others. Thank you for following my blog which led me to your own story. Glad to have crossed pathsā€¦

    Sharon

    • Sharon, it’s such a blessing to see you here. Thank you so much for this lovely comment, and for spending time to read what God is doing in my life. šŸ™‚

  41. What an amazing story! I was saved by Jesus 4 years ago. I also list vision in my right eye 3 years ago but was healed and have my central vision back. Over the past year I have started have eye issues in my other eye and now the one that was healed is flickering. Blindness is my biggest fear and sometimes I allow panic to set in but somehow he always brings me back. Today I woke in a panic and was feeling a bit overwhelmed again but Hithen saw I had a like on my blog, I followed the like and it led me here. Not a coincidence I know. Blind photography?! Wow! Your story inspires me and thank you for sharing it. I am looking forward to exploring more of your blog.

    • Awwww thanks so much for taking time to read what Jesus is doing in my life. Your blog is amazing and you’re such a loving, compassionate & faithful witness. Thanks for sharing your amazing healing with me, and i’m sorry to hear that you are having some trouble with your eyes. I understand completely how you fear sight loss, i know without Jesus i wouldn’t have made it! But i thank Him now for you and i’m blessed to meet another loving sister on here!
      God bless you. šŸ™‚

  42. I came back to reread your about and sat here crying (again) and wanted you to know what an inspiration you are. I hope you guys had an amazing Valentine’s Day! God bless you!

    Shauny Award

  46. I’m glad I folloed one of your “likes” on my blog back to your site. I too found Jesus over 40 years ago after a horrible period of alcoholism, depression and suicidal attempts. They were serious tries but God had other plans so even though I shouldn’t be here I survided 4 attempts. My Cristian walk had allowed me to survive 3 failed marriages and exit stronger after each failure. I’ve learned there is a huge difference between being lonely and being alone.

Now, after 3 years of retirement and being single I’m thoroughly happy and content. My 42 year passion for photography has filled my life with happiness and joy. I see the world with the eyes of someone who is grateful for each and every day. Thank you for posting and for your blog. – Bob

    • Wow, thanks for sharing how God has worked and is still working in your life! So pleased that photography brings you so much joy too. I really enjoy taking photos.

  77. Steve,
I read this when I “LIKED” it but came back to read it again… like I often do when I feel the Lord nudging me at the perfect times when I need to be inspired. I feel we are vessels just passing through and if our vessels end up bumping into each other with messages then it is some kind of miracle… proof for me that God is orchestrating so much more than answering a prayer for a good parking place!! He is so much BIGGER than that. I feel if we truly listen HE will send people like you to inspire people like me. Even if I have to reread HIS messages over and over again.
    God bless you!
    xoxo

    • Amen. Wow, thanks so much for taking time to read my about page again. I love going back to all my blogging family and reading their about pages again, its so inspiring like you said!
So pleased my blog helped inspire you again, and i pray that it will continue to do so!
Its always a pleasure to see you here!
      God bless. šŸ™‚

  78. Thanks for visiting our website šŸ™‚ God bless you!!

  79. Hi Steve. Your testimony is truly….truly inspirational. Unfortunately (or fortunately, I’m really not sure) sometimes you have to reach ‘rock bottom’ in life, before you are able to bring out the best in you. Your strength of character and attitude to life is admirable. I’m so glad you and Sarah have found each other. There is nothing like having that one person in your life who just know is ‘my constant’ no matter what.
Enjoyed looking at your photos – my favourites were ones of the animals and of London.

    • Wow, thanks so much for taking time to look around my blog. Yeah i’m so blessed to have Sarah as my wife, best friend & encourager.
Really pleased you enjoyed the photos! I really enjoy taking photos, so it means so much to me when people (like your kind self) take time and enjoy them.
Its great to see you here, i’m looking forwards to spending some time on your blog too! šŸ˜€

  80. Wow, Steve! Your story gripped, then captivated me! I love your beautiful honesty and vulnerability; it is a mark of a truly changed person.
Your Sarah must be a delightful person as well.
I’m so happy to have ‘met’ you through Lori Lara -one of my very favorite bloggers -another changed and grateful believer.

    • Awww thanks so much for this lovely comment.
Lori Lara is such a courageous and loving sister and i’m so pleased that you found me through her amazing blog.
Sarah is my hero, and i’m amazed how much our love grows for each other as we enjoy this journey together.
Thanks for your comments on my honesty and vulnerability. I spent 30 years lying and hiding my feelings and i was just feeding anger, rage, resentment, bitterness and i had no compassion for others, its so destructive! So now i try to speak while uplifting and building people rather than cutting them down through my own insecurities.
Also i’ve got no experience with writing so i have to type as i think, so thats how it comes out! lol.
Thanks again for stopping by and spending time reading some of my story. Its great to see you here! God bless you. šŸ™‚

  81. Steve, what a blessings to read your testimony . . . Though you “are” blind , . . . but now you see . . . the grace of God that has been awaiting thee! Amen and Amen

  82. Thank you for visiting and following my site. I pray you are having a bless day today.

  83. Hi Steve,
So nice to meet you through the computer.
I’m glad I clicked over to read a bit of your story. God has done a great work in you. I enjoyed reading your testimony. Glad to hear of His faithful work on your behalf and helping you continue on in your dream and vision.
    Keep inspiring.

    Doug

  84. Steve, I just read your “about” section and I am so inspired by your testimony. What an amazing God we have to transform your mind, your soul and the way you now see the world – through your heart. You are a miracle in every way I believe a soul can be healed. Body, Mind and Spirit…I will try not to feel inferior that you are blind and not only learned guitar and drums (I can’t even read music!) but you are an amazing photographer! Keep sharing your beautiful story. It brings hope to us all, and there can be no healing without hope. I’m so glad Jesus found you

    • Awwww thanks so much for taking time to read about God’s work in my life. I’m completely stunned after reading your comment, it’s deeply moved me.

    • Awww thanks so much for taking the time to read how God has worked and continues to work in my life. I have nominated you for the One Lovely Blog award because you have a special site dear to my heart. However, you DO NOT have to accept this award or display it if you do not desire too or have your own reasons for not doing it. Again, I just wanted you to know that you are truly special and you are someone I truly admire for your writing and service (ministry) to myself, to fellow bloggers and to the Lord. If you want to at least check it out, please go here for details:

Thanks, and God bless you for everything you do.

    • This is a comment I am giving to ALL the past WP Blogs I used to follow and the links I used to post because of your site. I am the Pastor of Oasis Bible Ministry and I have been away from WordPress for about a year to 14 months. Due to health and computer problems both, I had to quit for a while, but the Lord has been speaking to my heart to get back and do what HE asked me to do. So, I am in the process of doing a new blog, ā€œFor the Love of Godā€ under the outreach of Oasis Bible Ministry.

I am sorry for not being able to let anyone know until now, but I do apologize as so many of you had visited and of course, through that, the Holy Spirit led me to your sites. One of the reasons, I am writing a letter as a form for all, is because I am going through the links I have from before and with your permission, posting them on my blog on a links page. Some of you may already be in the ā€œBlogs I Followā€ section, but since it only holds 50 and I like so many more, I thought it is only fitting to make a separate page for the rest of the blogs I like.

I believe in Body Ministry and gifts that the Holy Spirit equips everybody who calls Christ Jesus Lord, and therefore, it is only fitting to let others see what the Holy Spirit is doing in other areas of His Church. Please believe me; this is NOT an attempt to draw anyone back. That is between the person and the Lord. He called me to do what I do as He called each of you. I just have to do what He says, it is up to Him to draw people to His Word as He gifts me.

Again, sorry for the inconvenience of those who followed me and then ended up with a ā€œblank gravatarā€ for I do sincerely apologize. But, I do sincerely pray Godā€™s richest blessings on each of you AND if per chance, you do NOT want me to post your link, I will remove it per your wishes. Again, thanks AND again, God bless you!

  109. I’ve been enjoying your blog and nominated you for the One Lovely Blog Award. God bless!
    http://especiallymade.wordpress.com/2013/05/31/whatever-is-lovely/

  110. Got chills. Even more than your suicide hopes, for the evolving tale of love and redemption. Oh…….sweeeeet!!!! HOW are you writing and reading — blind?? I hope you got to my Question of Human Suffering post – it’s still warm out of the oven. I think that would speak to you. Thanks for the follow. Just keep doing all you’re doing. You will blaze His light. Diana

    • Did I read here that you want to stop overeating? Not finding it again…but I thought you’d said that. (Very very tired right now.)

If so…overeating is sure suicide. The worst thing we can do to your liver. Documented way to cut life span.
You won’t see this with my gravatar right now so

      myholistictable.wordpress.com

      Blessings.

  116. Hi there, Steve; indeed, it’s very nice to meet you and Sarah. Please don’t think what I’m about to say is contrite, but I simply have to say “ditto” to all of the above feedback you’re getting. These people have very succinctly put into words what I’d like to say. I thank you so much for liking a recent post of mine “Macro Pinecone…”. I’m having a great time now that photo school (2-year degree) is behind me as well as a long, long time in the corporate business world. I’ve been released!! It’s wonderful! We need to be a shining light in this dark world and our testimony can be the beacon that leads others to Christ. Thank you for your transparency and openess. • Robyn, thanks so much, its comments like yours that make it easy to keep going! 157. Steve, thank you for following my blog, sandyshopefulroom. I have just read your “about” page and am blown away! My gosh you have been through so much and Jesus pulled you out with Sarah’s help.

It was when I reached your writing around Jer. 29:11 that I just stopped and thought. . .this is my favorite Scripture. I hang on that Scripture because it says everything I need to know about God!

I will check out the rest of your blog when I have more time!

    May you be blessed!
    SandyO

    • Wow, thanks for stopping by and checking out the work that Jesus is doing in my life! I too like that scripture and i hope my posts can help inspire you in some way. Shalom in Christ.

  160. RE your voice video. Thank God for modern technology and accommodations. I am so appreciative of the advancements that assist persons with physical/visual impairments. I worked (retired now) in a state agency that provided counseling and guidance, goods/equipment to persons with disabilities. Thank you and again, praise God for advances and individuals who persevere in spite of challenges. Continue your great work, which brings glory to God and encouragement to others.

    • Wow, thanks for this inspiring comment. Your job sounds really interesting and sounds like you helped a lot of people and saw a lot of great technology. I am still amazed at what technology enables me to do to help me stay independent! Thanks for stopping by. God bless.

  161. Its great to hear about the way you pushed yourself back and stood up again! The grace of God and the blessings along with sincere efforts can change the destiny and the path of a being.Your story is a light for people who liv ein dark and who have fallen into the pit of darkness by their deeds and thoughts. The perception is what matters ,which gives us vision! Iam glad you came through my blog ,its really good to be here

    • Thanks so much for the encouragement but i really couldn’t do it with my own strength. Thanks for checking out my blog and seeing a glimpse of what Jesus has done and is doing in my life! So blessed to have you here! šŸ˜€

  162. Thanks for stopping by my blog and following. Your story is such an inspiration and a testament to the hope we have in Jesus. There is always hope – I’m so glad you found that hope. And I’m so glad you used your hope to start this ministry. So many people need to hear the truth.

    • Wow, this is the first time anyone has called my iChristian blog a ministry!! I’ve never thought of it like that before. I only knew that God wanted me to share my story of how he has worked/is working in my life and to try and inspire others. Your blog is amazing and i am glad your enjoying mine. God bless. šŸ˜€

      • By sharing your story and starting this blog you have the potential to reach so many who are lost. A lot of people will never go to church or seek out other Christians, but if they stop here and read about your story and read your posts they will hear the truth. You may never know how many lives you have helped change by your obedience, or how many seeds you have planted for someone else to water. To me that is a ministry in the truest sense. It is exciting to see how God can use us when we let him. Not sure how you found my blog, but I’m glad you did so that I could meet you. My husband is also a musician – Piano – he plays beautifully (says the proud wife:). He is going to be graduating in May with his DMA in performance. He knew when he was 16 that he was supposed to use his music for God.

        • Words fail me! I’m truly overwhelmed by your comment! šŸ˜€ God bless you and your husband, i love the way he uses his music for the Lord! Shalom in Christ.

  163. such a beautiful and calming blog. thanks for this!

  164. You have an amazing testimony – thank you for sharing it with us. God is indeed good and I am so glad you heard Him calling for you. I look forward to going through life’s journey with you and your lovely wife. Thank you for stopping by my blog – it is an honor to meet you! Patty

    • Hi Patty! Thanks for this lovely comment. All i know is that by his grace Jesus saved me, and although i have no writing experience, he uses me to post on here! I love how he don’t choose ability before availability! I love your blog and so pleased you have taken some of your time to check out my journey! God bless you. šŸ˜€

      • God is so awesome at how He uses the internet to bring His people together, I look forward to knowing another brother in Christ! šŸ™‚

If you read my guitar posts, you’ll know that God can even bless a small talent as mine for His praise and glory! http://heulu.wordpress.com/2012/10/10/

    • Thanks for stopping by. Your blog is amazing and so inspiring, i love it! I rely on God choosing underdogs like me! God bless you and the work he does through you! šŸ˜€

  174. My thanks for your visit to my blog site and for liking one of my poems! I have read your personal story with interest (for whatever my comment will be worth) and agree with alanconrow.

    • Thanks so much, your poems are amazing! Your comment is worth more than you know, it really moves me when others bless me here. šŸ˜€

      • Now it is my turn to express my sincere thanks to you for calling my poems “amazing”. I will try to make my upcoming writings worth this confidence you give me for them. My best wishes for your continued work.

  175. Thank you so much for following our blog. We truly appreciate it. What a wonderful story and testimony to have about God’s love for us. Please continue to share your light with the world, we are with you 100%. – IKB

    • Wow, thanks for the encouragement! I heard God in prayer one day to share my testimony, so here i am trying to do the best i can to share the truth of his love and amazing saving grace. God bless you. šŸ˜€

  176. Amen! Thank you for your words and honesty… it’s raw, vulnerable, and relatable. This dark-night-of-the-soul experience has such profound meaning in our lives. I think, if all of us were honest, we’d find comfort in knowing it’s not such a rare experience to feel hurt and suffering. And then, I believe, in that honesty we find a powerful strength of compassion and love in our lives, together. Feeling is SO real… it’s the realest thing I’ve ever known… that’s why I write and play and sing… because feeling is our ecstasy, our right as human beings. Your testimony pin points that truth right on the mark. May blessings be with you on your journey šŸ˜‰

  177. I’m going to share your blog with a blind medical foreign missionary friend.

  178. Hi! Thank you very much for following my blog!

  179. My Tropical Home Reply April 4, 2013 at 19:57

    Hi Steve,

Thank you for visiting my blog. I’ve only been active on a daily basis this year and it’s only these past few days that I’ve realised where my blog really “fits”. I am encouraged by your testimony. I wondered if I had done right to put mine on a dedicated page. I was worried but felt led by God to just do it as best I could. I wouldn’t have it any other way now.

And I certainly do believe in divine appointments, and finding your blog certainly was one. I didn’t think Christian personal blogs could include photography, which is a hobby of mine. I’ll be checking that page out in a little while, just wanted to introduce myself first šŸ™‚

Praise God for the opportunity to minister and share His love and word through the blogosphere!

    Warmest regards,
    Mary

    • Hi Mary! Thanks so much for stopping by and encouraging me today. Once i heard God in prayer saying to share my story, i started this blog and it just grew as the brothers & Sisters in Christ encouraged me. I also believe that whatever gifts we have been blessed with, we should make them available and not bury them! I was worried that my blog might become messy but as usual God showed me when i was nominated with the Versatile Blogger Award. I thought it was messy but he calls it Versatile! lol šŸ˜€ God bless you and i can’t wait to see some of your photos! šŸ˜€

        Hi Steve,
I think our blogs are a form of ministry to the world. And yours is a truly inspirational one. I always pray that the world will get to know Jesus and our God more through our blogs. Congratulations on the award, I think you deserve it šŸ™‚
May you abound in His blessings, too!
        Warmly,
        Mary

  180. Thank you for following my blog :). I find your life story to be very inspiring. I suffer from chronic pain, I have been feeling low this week. Your story has uplifted my mood and has made me think that I will be Ok :).

    • Wow, thank you so much for blessing me with your love through this comment. I am praying for you and will continue to do so as i follow your fantastic blog too! Shalom in Christ! šŸ˜€

      • You’re welcome :). And thank you for keeping me in your prayers :). I must say this though, we both have common ground as we believe there is an unseen force that helps us through dark times. Mine may be a little different than yours ( I believe there is gods and goddesses ) however, I think we all can accept each other no matter what we believe in. We can coexist and not judge eachother for what we believe in. I have close friends who are Christian and I love them dearly. I hope you think similarly to what I just said. I enjoy your blog a lot. Blessings and prayers to you :))

        • Thanks for the lovely comment! I certainly can’t judge and we are called to just love each other! So everyone is totally welcome here. I just hope that my blog helps and inspires in some way. Thanks for blessing me today! šŸ˜€

  181. Hi Steve,

What a beautiful gift you gave me today! Thank you so much. Your follow of my blog and the liking of my “About” page led me to your wonderful blog. God really does work in mysterious ways.

I was so touched by your story. My story isn’t quite so dramatic, but I, too, clearly recall the exact moment that God spoke to me. I was actually sitting in church on Palm Sunday and suddenly I felt this wonderful light. I knew then I was coming home to God.

Thank you again Steve for your inspiration. I look forward to reading more of your posts and of continuing our discussions. I am of course, now following your blog so that I don’t miss anything.

    God Bless you my friend.

    Nancy

    • Hi Nancy. Wow, it is you that has given me a surprise gift today with this deeply touching comment, such kind words. Thanks for sharing your story with me. I look forwards to following your blog, you do such great work. Shalom in Christ. šŸ˜€

  182. Hi Steve- Blessings to you as you reach out and share with others. Thank you for sharing my Blog this morning, and as I came and read yours I am touched. You allow yourself to be so real and open and that is what touches hearts. I would love to share some of your message from time to time on my blog, and want to make sure that is OK with you. Of course I will give you full credit. None of us know how God will use us, I think our responsibility is being available- thank you for being available for Him- Blessings-

    • Wow, i would be honoured for you to share anything from my blog! Your blog is amazing and you are such an inspiration to us all! I still can’t believe how God is using my little story and blog to help touch and inspire others. and most of all for all of you lovely sisters & brothers to love, encourage and share the truths of your lives that fill my heart with love. God bless you.

  183. I just want to say thank you so much for following my blog at IshaiyaFreshlySqueezed.com, it always means the world to me when others appreciate the work I do. You are such a strong soul with more yet to do in life. Just when you think you’ve worked it all out you find there is always more to learn and discover about yourself. I guess at some point in our evolution we all go through ‘the dark night of the soul’, and all who have come through the other end are inextricably transformed and reborn in many ways with clearer inner vision. There is no fight, just an ability to shine very brightly for all to see. And that you do! Best wishes,

    Ishaiya

    • Thanks for this lovely comment and for following my blog. I look forwards to following yours into the future. No matter how broken you think your soul can get, there is always healing. Thanks again for taking precious time and checking out my blog! God bless you! šŸ˜€

  184. P.S. — Steve, pardon my ignorance, but I was wondering, are you able to read these comments yourself or does someone read them to you and assist you in emails, etc.?

    • As i have no central vision at all i can’t see to read print, large print or even giant print, but technology of today means i can still be independent. My screen reader ‘Voiceover” on my iMac, iPad, iPhone reads aloud all emails, messages etc and allows me to navigate and use all of the functions a sighted person can. So i can keep upto date without any sighted support and technology improves every year so its an exciting time for me as i explore the small incraments that make my life a little less challenging! Thanks for the questions, i love questions so ask away if you like! God bless you! šŸ˜€

      • Wow, that is so exciting to hear! Life is just amazing. I love your story and I look forward to following your blog. Love in Christ — from NJ šŸ™‚

  185. What an amazing, powerful testimony! Thanks so much for sharing with us. This brought tears to my eyes. I’m so happy you met Sarah and she brought you to the Lord!! I’m going to send this page to my friend who hasn’t met a Christian love yet — she said the Bible said not to be unevenly yoked and won’t date a non-Christian, but I always tell her that she can be an inspiration to someone (like Sarah was to you!) Dating a non-Christian is an OPPORTUNITY! God bless you and Sarah!

    • Maryanne, thank you for your lovely comment! Feel free to share anything on here with your friends, i hope my blog can inspire people and help unite the body of Christ. Sarah says “I prayed to God, and God chose me (Steve) so i had no choice in the matter of choosing a Christian or not! lol

  196. Hello Steve. Thank you for visiting my blog, liking a post and for following. I am both awed and humbled by your blog. What an amazing witness you are for Christ and His magnificent grace. Your photography Is impressive. How do you do it? You have better images posted here than some images posted by people with perfect vision. You are truly gifted and amazing. I am so thankful you came to my blog so that I might find your blog. I look forward to following you on your awe inspiring journey! Blessings, Robyn

    • Robyn, wow that is an amazing comment of encouragement, thank you! Your photos are simply stunning and i am amazed by them everytime i have a look at your blog! Thanks again for taking time to check out my story and photos, its great to have proper photographers appreciate my photos, it means a lot to me. God bless you. šŸ˜€

  197. Thanks Steve! I am a Christian before all things. My sole(soul) focus is the ‘broken’ side of life and creating a pathway out for others who are stuck there as I called that place home also… If things get tough, drop me a line, I’ll be here.

    • Thanks Joseph for these loving words. It is so important to keep reaching out and putting Christ’s love into action. Thanks again for the fellowship and being here. šŸ˜€

  198. Hello Steve! Wow, so powerful! How great is the God’s love for us? I look forward to really diving more into your blog. • Thank you so much, this comment has stunned me a little! šŸ˜€ Your photos are fantastic and i look forwards to seeing more of them! God bless you.

  200. I echo the sentiments from the other comments here; what a powerful and touching testimony. Thank you for sharing about yourself, even something so personal such as this and for your outreach to those that may be feeling or going through something similar. May God bless you abundantly! šŸ™‚

    • Thank you for the comment. I prayed a lot about whever i should write about my story as I thought people would just think it was yet another testimony, but the way it has been received by all of you encouraging bloggers It has really helped me to see that testimonies can reach/speak to people on a personal level and there is always Hope in any situation. Thanks again for the comment. šŸ˜€

      • No problem! I wanted you to know how touching your story is and I do believe it can reach others — especially when it proved how good God’s goodness is, to save us even from the most difficult and scary times in our lives. Exactly — a saying that I’ve heard before, from Pastor Joel Osteen if I remember right, is “You can’t have faith without hope.” Youre very welcome! I look forward to your posts, so keep on being inspired and keep the faith. šŸ˜€

  201. This is one of the most inspiring testimonies I have ever heard! This brings true revelation to the scripture we are MORE than conquerors through Christ Jesus!! Thank you for sharing this! It literally made me cry, at first tears of sorrow, then joy! God bless you abundantly!! Juliana

    • Thank you so much Juliana! Your comment really touched my heart. It’s been quite a journey and still continues to amaze me. God really does have a plan for our lives and there is no pit too deep that he won’t reach into and lift you out. Thanks once again for this touching comment. God bless you. šŸ˜€

  202. Steve – what’s up, brother. Thanks for taking the time to visit my blog and follow me. It means a lot as a new blogger to see that others are finding interest in what God places on my heart. So, where can we go to hear your music? A website? Youtube? Did I overlook a link on your blog, here. Thanks. Be blessed.

    Grace and Peace,
    John

    • John, its a pleasure to help and encourage in any way i can. Sorry but there is no audio to my music (if you heard me sing then you would understand!) I am hoping to start singing lessons at some point so i can do justice to these songs.
Thank you so much for the likes & comments.
      God bless you.

  203. Hello Steve,
thanks for following my blog… As I read your posts, my own heart and soul were reflected in your words … “If it was up to me than Iā€™d be dead. Iā€™d have missed Godā€™s amazing grace and a living relationship with Jesus along with the countless blessings I simply didnā€™t know existed! Heā€™s transformed me in so many ways and Iā€™m no longer held captive by drinking, swearing, anger, lack of compassion and self loathing, along with much much more”

you see, 17 years ago I found myself alone and at the end of my road with a loaded nine millimeter handgun pointed at myself … not many people know about my dark path… but God has been moving in my heart to write it all down … I had been struggling so much to do that …but as I read your words now, I realize how much healing and grace these words can pour out – straight from the heart of Jesus…
SO, I thank you for writing … for being transparent … for letting God use you and making your (and HIS) testimony available to Him.
ever so grateful for crossing paths .
    Heidi

    • Heidi, Wow this comment has stunned me! I could never imagine that my little story can touch others. It would be fantastic if you could write about your journey. Sometimes its hard to think there is hope and a God that wants a living relationship when all you feel is hurt and pain. I am so blessed to share this journey with amazing people like yourself! Also as you may of guess i am not a writer by any stretch of the imagination and i am so thankful that God doesn’t necessarily look for ability but availability. This encourages me a lot. šŸ˜€
My prayers are with you and i look forwards to your future writings! šŸ˜€

  204. Wow, stopped by to thank you for following my blog and found myself moved to tears at your testimony! Keep sharing God’s work in your life! What a blessing! šŸ™‚

    • Thank you so much for your encouraging words! Its such a blessing to have a great fellowship with other bloggers and to share our personal stories of how God has loved and transformed us! Thanks for liking & commenting! šŸ˜€

  205. What beautiful testimony. Thanks for stopping by the noontimes blog so that I might find you! May you continue to know Christ’s peace.

    • Hi Sarah, thanks for the lovely comment and its a pleasure to be sharing this amazing journey with you and the rest of the bloggers out there! Knowing the Lord as my refuge and strength is what enabled me to find the inner peace I was searching for! God bless you, your blog and your journey! šŸ˜€

  206. Hi Steve! You know no matter how much we reason with the world, there’s no refuting a personal testimony of a personal God in our lives. They can’t refute a miracle! Reading your testimony brought a huge smile to my face, as I got to see just a glimpse. Thanks for the ‘follow’ on MisunderstoodGod blog, and may we both be used mightily to lift Jesus higher. Counting it all joy!
    Audra

    • Wow! Thank you so much for commenting it means a lot to me. I have been blessed and encouraged by the testimonies i have heard and read on here, it really brings home how much God wants a relationship with us and he can reach you wherever you are! I look forwards to reading more of your blog as we go through this amazing journey! God bless you! šŸ˜€

  207. Thanks for checking out my blogā€¦Iā€™m now following yours.
I love reading your powerful testimony which points readers to the One who turned your life around. Where would we be without Jesus? Canā€™t imagine how I would have managed life with a son who has schizoaffective disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Or how Iā€™d cope with MS (so sad to read about your mother’s passing).
Incidentally, we have other things in common: Iā€™m a certified vision teacher (taught students at Maryland School for the Blind decades ago). Music is a big part of our family. My husband passed on his musical gift to our two sons. I, however, have no musical talent.

    • Vicki, thanks so much for following my blog. I keep tweaking my testimony as i find more things i want to say. My Mum was just amazing how she handled MS and is still now an inspiration to me when i find myself struggling with something. Jesus is blessing you and your family in so many ways and its great that we can encourage and inspire one another along this journey! It would be great to find out more about your experiences whilst teaching the vision impaired. I studied IT for a few years when i first lost my sight 13 years ago and it has helped me so much, especially in staying connected to the world as having sight loss can be so isolating sometimes! Many blessings to you and your family! šŸ˜€

  208. Hi Steve,

Oh my goodness, your story has deeply touched me. I’ve been in that dark place, too. And if it weren’t for Jesus, I wouldn’t be here either. He is very real…and his love is the most powerfully healing force.

I’m glad you found my blog. I’ll look forward to staying connected as we continue on our respective journeys.

    Keep pressing on!

    Lori

    • Hi Lori! Thanks for checking out my blog and liking my Testimony! I could relate with so much of your Testimony and it was encouraging and inspiring! I am really looking forwards to your future posts and following you as you continue on your amazing journey! God bless you! šŸ˜€

  209. As always bro your words hit home and in a very hard way. I had no idea you were so low during that time. Suppose somewhat stuck in my own grief of losing mum I never paid much attention. But I do know that she more than anyone would be happy at the happiness you have in your life.

    Love you mate!

    Paul

    • Thanks Bro! I think i have only ever told Sarah about it, and when someone asked me to share some of my testimony one Sunday morning that was the only time i had spoke about it out loud! The Church then asked me to write something down so they could publish it in the local newsletter, and that was only a few months ago. As this is the Abridged version, i am starting to write a much longer one with more details but that may take some time! lol. Grief is such a huge Giant and it can be a real hard struggle to win, but it must be won! There is always Hope! Thanks for your kind words Paul. If i can inspire just one person from reading this then that will be amazing!
Love you bro! May God bless you as he has an amazing plan for your life too! x šŸ˜€

  210. Hi Steve–thanks for visiting my blog! Looks like you have a very nice one here, yourself. God bless you for sharing your story of His great faithfulness to us! Have a wonderful weekend–love, sis Caddo

    • Hi Caddo! Your Blog looks amazing and i will enjoy following and hearing from you as you travel your journey! Thanks so much for having a look around and for you lovely comments! God bless you! šŸ˜€

Steve, thank you so much for reading and following my life journey at my blog over at http://www.40YearWanderer.wordpress.com. I call myself the 40 Year Wanderer because like the Israelites, it took me 40 Years of life to truly grasp the things that God had planned just for me. Wish I had listened to Him years ago when I gave my life to Him, but I thought I knew better how to plan. Your story is inspiring to me and I pray God fill you with everything you need to continue on this plan for your life to inspire others. May He bless you every day. – Heather

    • Hi Heather! Wow thank you so much for your kind and encouraging words. To think that i could inspire anyone is so far from where i used to be and i would never of believed that someone could write such words about me. God is transforming me in so many ways, and at the moment i am trying to write a short Testimony with more details than this ā€œAbout Meā€ page. So i hope to share that on here too! I am now following your Amazing Blog after reading about you and your journey of transformation, its so inspiring and i feel blessed to have your posts to read to challenge & encourage me! Thanks again for taking time to read a little about me!
