Revelation 3:14-22Β The Voice

Letter to Laodicea

Write down My words, and send them to the messenger of the church in Laodicea. β€œThese are the words of the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of God’s creation:

β€œI know your works. You are neither cold with apathy nor hot with passion. It would be better if you were one or the other, but you are neither. So because you are lukewarm, neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. You claim, β€˜I am rich, I have accumulated riches, and I need nothing’; but you do not realize that you are miserable, pathetic, poor, blind, and naked. So here is what I suggest you do: buy true gold from Me (gold refined by fire so that you can be truly rich), white garments (to cover you so that you can keep the shame of your nakedness from showing), and eye ointment (to treat your eyes so that you may see clearly).

β€œThose I love I also correct and discipline. Therefore, be shamelessly committed to Me, and turn back.[a] Now pay attention; I am standing at the door and knocking. If any of you hear My voice and open the door, then I will come in to visit with you and to share a meal at your table, and you will be with Me.

β€œThe one who conquers through faithfulness even unto death I will place next to Me on My throne, just as I Myself conquered and took a place of honor with My Father on His throne.

β€œLet the person who is able to hear, listen to and follow what the Spirit proclaims to all the churches.”

Matthew 5:1-12Β The Message

You’re Blessed

When Jesus saw his ministry drawing huge crowds, he climbed a hillside. Those who were apprenticed to him, the committed, climbed with him. Arriving at a quiet place, he sat down and taught his climbing companions. This is what he said:

β€œYou’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule.

β€œYou’re blessed when you feel you’ve lost what is most dear to you. Only then can you be embraced by the One most dear to you.

β€œYou’re blessed when you’re content with just who you areβ€”no more, no less. That’s the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can’t be bought.

β€œYou’re blessed when you’ve worked up a good appetite for God. He’s food and drink in the best meal you’ll ever eat.

β€œYou’re blessed when you care. At the moment of being β€˜care-full,’ you find yourselves cared for.

β€œYou’re blessed when you get your inside worldβ€”your mind and heartβ€”put right. Then you can see God in the outside world.

β€œYou’re blessed when you can show people how to cooperate instead of compete or fight. That’s when you discover who you really are, and your place in God’s family.

β€œYou’re blessed when your commitment to God provokes persecution. The persecution drives you even deeper into God’s kingdom.

β€œNot only thatβ€”count yourselves blessed every time people put you down or throw you out or speak lies about you to discredit me. What it means is that the truth is too close for comfort and they are uncomfortable. You can be glad when that happensβ€”give a cheer, even!β€”for though they don’t like it, I do! And all heaven applauds. And know that you are in good company. My prophets and witnesses have always gotten into this kind of trouble.”
