“To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable.” ~ C.S Lewis

Yeah i love his quotes and books! 🙂
Brother Steve, I have always C. S. Lewis’ writings. What an awesome ambassador for Christ. I especially love this post as the teaching of REAL love is the basis of my whole ministry. Mr. Lewis was so right and I love the part he speaks about a person not wanting to take the chance of a broken heart; “Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness.” A lot of people don’t realize that hate, is not necessarily the opposite of love, but rather selfishness is. A person who only thinks of self does not utilize his (or her) potential to love. Real love is ACTION! What the enemy has tried to do is “rape” the true meaning and put it only into an emotion, a “feeling” and that is the lie most of the world has bought into.
If we first LOVE in action, in doing as the Apostle James writes, the “feeling” will follow. The world wants the feeling first and then maybe will act! Great post as always brother!!
God bless, very much!
