11-12Β βWhy this frenzy of sacrifices?β
Β Β Β Β GodβsΒ asking.
βDonβt you think Iβve had my fill of burnt sacrifices,
Β Β Β Β rams and plump grain-fed calves?
Donβt you think Iβve had my fill
Β Β Β Β of blood from bulls, lambs, and goats?
When you come before me,
Β Β Β Β whoever gave you the idea of acting like this,
Running here and there, doing this and thatβ
Β Β Β Β all this sheerΒ commotionΒ in the place provided for worship?
13-17Β βQuit your worship charades.
Β Β Β Β I canβt stand your trivial religious games:
Monthly conferences, weekly Sabbaths, special meetingsβ
Β Β Β Β meetings, meetings, meetingsβI canβt stand one more!
Meetings for this, meetings for that. I hate them!
Β Β Β Β Youβve worn me out!
Iβm sick of your religion, religion, religion,
Β Β Β Β while you go right on sinning.
When you put on your next prayer-performance,
Β Β Β Β Iβll be looking the other way.
No matter how long or loud or often you pray,
Β Β Β Β Iβll not be listening.
And do you know why? Because youβve been tearing
Β Β Β Β people to pieces, and your hands are bloody.
Go home and wash up.
Β Β Β Β Clean up your act.
Sweep your lives clean of your evildoings
Β Β Β Β so I donβt have to look at them any longer.
Say no to wrong.
Β Β Β Β Learn to do good.
Work for justice.
Β Β Β Β Help the down-and-out.
Stand up for the homeless.
Β Β Β Β Go to bat for the defenceless.
