“The central problem of our age is not liberalism or modernism, nor the old Roman Catholicism or the new Roman Catholicism, nor the threat of communism, nor even the threat of rationalism and the monolithic consensus which surrounds us. All these are dangerous but not the primary threat. The real problem is this: the church of the Lord Jesus Christ, individually corporately, tending to do the Lord’s work in the power of the flesh rather than of the Spirit. The central problem is always in the midst of the people of God, not in the circumstances surrounding them.”
Francis A. Schaeffer – No Little People
Dr. Schaeffer would be appalled to see how much worse things are now than when he first wrote this.
We (Christians) blather on about how the cultural & political climate is so anti-Christian, but the NT believers turned the world upside down with the gospel and lives that preached loudly a sermon of salvation & sanctification—all the while under the tyranny of Rome.
If our message doesn’t resonate, could it be because our own lives aren’t characterized by salt & light? More time in communion with God and less time shouting at the wind might produce the results we say we desire.
Excellent read!
Wow…extremely eye opening and insightful. Thanks for sharing! Something for all of us to ponder…
