🤔My Thoughts…
After just finishing my audiobook of “The Evangelistic Zeal of George Whitefield” by Steven .J. Lawson i stumbled on this quote. I had a little chuckle too as i’m currently in a “Methodist” church and it seems to be drifting far away from Biblical preaching like this.
“There are Lutherans and Wesleyans in the present day, but there are no Whitefieldites. No! The great evangelist of last century was a simple, guileless man, who lived for one thing only, and that was to preach Christ.”
J.C. Ryle, Christian Leaders Of The 18th Century
Thanks, Steve. I used to be in a Methodist church (in fact, I grew up in one). I can’t say that I like the movement I see happening in the Methodist churches today. They are shifting their focus, as you say, away from “preaching Christ” and attempting, I believe, to be popular with and attractive to “the world”. It’ a shame, to me. Thanks for posting.
Hi Steven, thanks for the comment. Yes i think you’re right by calling it a movement as it has drifted so far from the Gospel that George Whitefield & John Wesley preached!
To me it seems they have become so worldly that they have dissolved the TRUTH from each side, and left them with RUT…..and until they return to Biblical authority the RUT will become deeper and darker.
There are not J. C. Ryles, either.
lol, Amen. 😀
