Universal nonsense!
“I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.” John 10:11
“You are to give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21
Where does the Word of God proclaim . . .
an atonement that doesn’t atone,
a redemption that doesn’t redeem,
a deliverance that doesn’t deliver,
a ransom that doesn’t set free,
a Savior who doesn’t save?
Nowhere!
Universal redemption is no redemption at all!
Universal redemption is universal nonsense!
“Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her” Ephesians 5:25
“I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me!” Galatians 2:20
Hi guys! Please, no apologies needed, i love the interaction from my friends here and always encourage your comments.
When i first read this daily devotion, i instantly thought of “Universalism” and how i’ve encountered this recently in our local church. It is becoming more and more popular and i’m starting to hear it from quite a few people around me and it deeply concerns me. To deny the work of our blessed Lord and Saviour for a man centred gospel grieves my heart.
Sorry, I’m not Steve, so don’t pretend to answer for him, just that I have 50+ years discussing these subjects. As for the “L” in TULIP – a woefully inadequate acronym, you said, “that Christ only died to save those who would saved, as opposed to ‘whosoever shall upon the name of the Lord’. I certainly believe that last to be true, though I believe a better name for it is “particular” redemption, that is, that Christ died for a particular people, people who in process of time will “call upon the name of the Lord.” Scripture is clear that “there is none righteous, there is none who understands [that they are not righteous], there is none who seek after God [for righteousness].” If God had simply sent Christ into the world, and then “left if up to us,” no one would ever be saved, Romans 9:29. We would be no better than Sodom and Gomorrah. If He had not chosen some, no one would be saved, at all.
This is just a few words, to which thousands could be added – on both sides.
As I said, I’m not Steve, so apologize to both of you. I just pray that this gives you a little to think about on these difficult subjects.
Thank you, and thankful for grace.
I don’t want to stir up anything. For the most part I just wanted to comment so that you would know I read your post and didn’t just “like” it. However, I do want to make sure I’m “liking” in the proper context. First, I DO agree that “universal redemption” is nonsense. It is clear from Scripture that not all will be saved and that there is a place for those who reject Christ – it’s called hell. In other words, I’m not a Rob Bell fan. But secondly, I was wondering if what you were actually referring to was more akin to the “L” in the TULIP acronym: Limited Atonement. In other words, that Christ only died to save those who would be saved, as opposed to offer salvation to “whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord,” even if they rejected. Like I said, I don’t want to stir up anything or get into a debate, but I was curious as to the reason behind – the impetus – for your post.
Love ya!
