Afterwards you will understand!

“You do not understand now what I am doing, but afterwards you will understand.” John 13:7
We are to walk by faith, not by sight.
We are to trust His heart, when we cannot trace His hand!
We are to believe Him, when we cannot understand His mysterious workings!
The Lord is now working in nature, providence, and grace–and He does many things which we do not understand at present. But when His work is complete, and it lies stretched out before us in the light of eternity, we shall then . . .
comprehend His design,
admire His wisdom, and
adore His divine workings!
Beloved, is God cleansing you by fiery trials, or causing you to pass through deep waters? Are you at a loss to know what His design is, or where the present affliction will end?
Be still. Wait His time.
There is a divine working time, which is the present;
and there is a divine revealing time, which is to come.
The wisest Christians are often in the dark now, but the simplest Christians will see all things clearly by and by.
A little more patience, a little more faith–and all will end well.
“We know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God, and who are called according to His purpose!” Romans 8:2

Thank you so much for your kind words. 🙏 It is such a comfort to remember that God is always present and working, even when we cannot see or understand what He is doing.
So often we only see a small part of the picture, but He sees the beginning, the middle, and the end. Our part is to keep trusting, keep walking by faith, and believe that His purposes are always good.
This is a truth I hold onto and He has pressed in my spirit lately. Everything comes down to trusting Him who knows our beginning to the end, and every moment in between. Blessings ~
Love this! One of my favorite sections in Scripture is Exodus 14:13-14 where Moses has led God’s people to the edge of the Red Sea and they’re in a panic because the sea is before them and the Egyptians behind them. The complained of being where they were instead of back in Egypt where they were “safe”. And Moses basically says, “Wait, watch, and see what the Lord will do.” Waiting and watching is hard! But a dear saintly woman once told me that if I knew what God knows I’d be fine with what God does. Thanks for this.
Dayle, looking back at this post almost four years later, your words about Exodus 14 really stand out to me. “Wait, watch, and see what the Lord will do” is such a simple phrase, but living it out can be one of the hardest parts of faith.
It’s amazing how often God asks us to trust Him before we understand what He is doing. There have been many moments where I couldn’t see the reason for a particular season, but later I’ve been able to look back and see His hand guiding me all along.
I love what that dear saintly woman told you: “If I knew what God knows, I’d be fine with what God does.” That is such a powerful reminder that our perspective is limited, but His never is.
Thank you for your encouragement back then, Dayle. This message is still just as true today: sometimes faith means standing at the edge of the Red Sea, waiting patiently, and trusting that God already has a way through. 😀
