Self-sins!

“But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will beย lovers of themselves” 2 Timothy 3:1-2ย

(A.W. Tozer)

We all have a number ofย self-sins:
ย  self-righteousness,
ย  self-pity,
ย  self-confidence,
ย  self-sufficiency,
ย  self-admiration,
ย  self-worth,
ย  self-love andย
ย  a host of others like them!
These self-sins are not something weย do, they are something weย are–and therein lies both their subtlety and their power. They dwell too deep within us and are too much a part of our natures, to come to our attention–until the light of God is focused upon them.ย

The grosser manifestations of these sins–egotism, pride, arrogance, self-elevation, self-promotion–are strangely tolerated inย Christian leaders, even in circles of impeccable orthodoxy! They are so much in evidence as actually, for many people, to become identified with the gospel. I trust that it is not a cynical observation to say that they appear these days to be aย requisite for popularityย in some sections of theย  visible Church.ย

Promotingย selfย under the guise of promotingย Christ–is currently so common as to excite little notice!ย

“They do not have pure motives as they preach about Christ. They preach with selfish ambition, not sincerely” Philippians 1:17ย
