A rare creature!
(Charles Spurgeon)
“I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that He considered me faithful, appointing me to His service.” 1 Timothy 1:12
A faithful preacher is a rare creature; and, like a diamond, as precious as he is rare!
If you always enjoy his sermons, that minister is not a faithful steward. He who gives out nothing but sweets is not acting wisely.
It is the duty of the Christian pastor, if he would make full proof of his ministry to warn men of the results of sin to tell them that there is a judgment that for every idle word they speak they will have to account.
Some preachers do not preach of eternal wrath and its terrors. This is cruel, for they ruin souls by hiding from them their ruin!
The object of all true preaching is the heart. Godly ministers aim at divorcing the heart from sin, and wedding it to Christ.
“If you point these things out to the brothers, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus brought up in the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed.” 1 Timothy 4:6
Great words! We’re all much too pampered these days by being fed cosy sermons that will make us feel happy and comfortable. It’s imperative that we are given the absolute truth.
It’s a challenge to us all – Do we just want to be liked or will we deliver God’s Word in ALL it’s entirety?
Amen Lesley! We all need to hear all of the attributes of God and what that means…Not just the sentimental squishy stuff!
We are amazing at making a god for ourselves, one that we can live with and keep in our pockets and bring it out when we feel like it, this is not the God of the Bible which He graciously revealed to us by Himself. 😀
Absolutely, Steve. I think many, if not most, of us are guilty of doing that. Thank you for sharing Spurgeon’s words. They remind me to read my bible more closely – even the bits that may make me feel uneasy, and also to be more brave and honest in what I write.
Hi Lesley! I love sharing Spurgeon’s words as they cut straight through to the heart and soul as he fills his words with biblical texts. I often wonder (as he was fighting the downgrade controversy) what he’d think of most of todays preachers? It’s gone way beyond downgrading!
We are the only people in this world that has Good news…The message from God that’s the power of God to Salvation, and we are all called to share it. Easier said than done though as people really don’t want the Truth…Even when it’s Truth in Love. But it’s not our message, it’s God’s. It reminds me of Galatians and the Apostle Paul…
Galatians 1:10–12
Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.
11 I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel I preached is not of human origin. 12 I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ.
You have re-ignited my love for these honest preachers. Their words are timeless.
Thanks for the Galation verses, Steve. We’re just about to do some work in the garden, so I will look closer at that later in the afternoon.
Hope you and Sarah have a lovely day! 🌻
Awww thanks Lesley!
It’s a lovely warm day down here and i hope it’s sunny up there too?! Have a lovely day. God bless you. 🙏 😀
The mouth of many voices in harmony……….REV 1:15 KJV “And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.”
Amen! 😀
Steve did you put the leaves in there? Do you see them? There are three.
Awww thank you so much for letting me know. My screenreader had trouble reading these. I use a lot of text replacement shortcuts so i often have an emoji placed in the centre of words or a hamburger lol! 🤣 I don’t use a spell checker as my screenreader etc doesn’t work well. But i’m so grateful for you for letting me know as i simply don’t notice, thanks again. God bless you. 😀
YW they were not a mstake….GOD BLESS you.
