Serving with ulterior motives…

Serving with ulterior motives…

by F. B. Meyer

How many of us, who are engaged in the Lord’s holy service,¬†are secretly cherishing some proud aspiration of excelling other¬†men, of making a name for ourselves, of securing money or¬†fame!

We will use the pulpit as a pedestal for the adulation of the world, and the cross for a post on which to hang garlands to our own glory.

How often do we preach sermons, or make addresses,¬†and attend meetings, with no other thought than to secure¬†the recognition and praise of those to whom we ‘minister’.

All of this must be laid aside. We must have no selfish, prideful ulterior motives to serve Christ.

Your Time Is Your Life

‚ÄúTime is your most precious gift because you only have a set amount of it. You can make more money, but you can’t make more time. When you give someone your time, you are giving them a portion of your life that you’ll never get back. Your time is your life. That is why the greatest gift you can give someone is your time.

It is not enough to just say relationships are important; we must prove it by investing time in them. Words alone are worthless. “My children, our love should not be just words and talk; it must be true love, which shows itself in action.” Relationships take time and effort, and the best way to spell love is “T-I-M-E.‚ÄĚ

More Precious Than Millions!

We regret losing a purse full of money, but a good thought which has come to us, which we’ve heard or read, a thought which we should have remembered and applied to our life, which could have improved the world- we lose this thought and promptly forget about it, and we do not regret it, though it is more precious than millions.

Truth From The Heart

Psalm 15 The Voice

A recurring theme in the psalms is the dwelling place of God and its importance in worship. This Davidic psalm considers the moral qualities of the person who wishes to approach God.

Eternal One, who is invited to stay in Your dwelling? Who is granted passage to Your holy mountain?

Here is the answer: The one who lives with integrity, does what is right, and speaks honestly with truth from the heart. The one who doesn’t speak evil against others or wrong his neighbour, or slander his friends. The one who loathes the loathsome, honours those who fear the Eternal, And keeps all promises no matter the cost. The one who does not lend money with gain in mind and cannot be bought to harm an innocent name.

If you live this way, you will not be shaken and will live together with the Lord.

$5 Bill

Quote Logo

A few years ago I had managed to screw up my life so badly that I found myself without a home and without hope. I’m ashamed to admit it, but even then I was so absorbed by my own self-pity that all I could think of was begging enough money to buy the cheapest drink I could find. One day I was sitting in front of a store panhandling when a woman walked by with a small boy in tow. She ignored my pitch and hurried away. As I watched them go down the sidewalk the small boy broke free and came running back. He stood in front of me, fumbling in his coat pocket; he pulled out a five-dollar bill that was almost certainly more money than he had ever held before, and handed it to me. I was completely dumbstruck and just sat there staring at him with the money in my hand. By then his mother had returned and with tears in her eyes gently led the boy away. He turned back once to wave and they were gone. I don’t know how long I sat there, but I have not had another drink since then.

Money

Prayer 4 2day wireless logo

Jesus, take inventory of my heart right now. Show me where I love money and the material. I confess that I often want to serve this master. By the power of Your Spirit and the wisdom of Your Word, free me from the master of money so that I can follow You in complete freedom and truth. Amen.

Prayer 4 2day wireless logo

Father in heaven, I know that I have broken your laws and that my sins have separated me from you. I now want to turn away from my past sinful life.

Please forgive me, and help me avoid sinning again.
I believe that you sent your son¬†Jesus Christ, who died for my sins,¬†was resurrected from the dead, and¬†is now alive.¬†I invite Jesus to¬†become the Lord of my life‚ÄĒto rule¬†and reign in my heart from this dayforward.

Please send me your Holy Spirit to help me to obey you, and
to do your will for the rest of my life.

In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
