When a tear is wept by you–do not think that God does not behold it
(Charles Spurgeon)
“The LORD said:
Ā I have indeedĀ seenĀ the misery of My people in Egypt.
Ā I haveĀ heardĀ them crying out because of their slave drivers,
Ā and I amĀ concernedĀ about their suffering.
Ā So I have come down toĀ rescueĀ them . . .” Exodus 3:7, 8
Perhaps no figure of speech represents God in a more gracious light, than when He is spoken of as stooping from His throne and coming down from Heaven to attend to the wants and woes of His redeemed people.Ā
How can we but love Him, when we know that He . . .
Ā numbers the very hairs of our heads,
Ā marks all our paths, and
Ā orders all our ways?
When a tear is wept by you–do not think that God does not behold it, for . . .
“You keepĀ trackĀ of all my sorrows.
Ā You haveĀ collectedĀ all my tears in Your bottle.
Ā You haveĀ recordedĀ each one in Your book.” Psalm 56:8Ā
Your sigh is able to move the heart of Jehovah,Ā
your whisper can incline His ear unto you,Ā
your prayer can stay His hand,Ā
your faith can move His arm!
Do not think that God sits on high taking no account of you. For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is perfect toward Him.
When a tear is wept by you–do not think that God does not behold it
The Preacher
The story is told of a church that secured a new preacher, and the word spread around town about how well he preached.Ā The church members were abuzz about what an improvement he was over their former preacher, and how much more attention they gave to his sermons.Ā When the town cynic asked what made this new preacher so much better than his predecessor, he was told, āThe old preacher told us that weāre all sinners, and that if we didnāt repent, weād burn in hell forever!āĀ This cynic then asked, āAnd what does this new one say?āĀ The answer was, āThat weāre all sinners, and that if we donāt repent, weāll burn in hell forever!āĀ When the cynic responded that he didnāt see any difference between the two of them, he was told, āThis new preacher says it with tears in his eyes.ā
