Weekly Photo Challenge: Humanity

Interpret the theme humanity.

A photo of my tattoo of a inhuman ripping out of the skin

For this weeks photo challenge, I asked Sarah to take a photo of a tattoo i have on the lower half of my left leg. I had this done aged 21, unsaved yet fully sighted and thought it would add to my seriously bad attitude and reputation as i played football at the local 5 a side arena (where i’m band for life for being too aggressive, fighting etc, but that’s another story).

Little did i know that it was an image of my very own nature that was separating me from God. I had no idea that God would now use this tattoo as a conversation starter for me to share a little of how God saved me, and is now working through me in my new life….

All of humanity has a sin nature. This is a nature that is disobedient to God. At the same time, we do have a free choice to be good or bad. God gave all humans free will. We can choose to be good. We can choose to follow the Holy Spirit. We can choose to accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour. He gave us choice. We are not just driven by our instincts or our environment. Neither are we puppets of God. We choose to be either servants of God or servants of sin.

Sin Nature

Humans have a sin nature. A sin nature is basically a nature that is disobedient to God. We were all born with a sin nature that can be traced back through our ancestors all the way back to Adam and Eve. This tendency for us to disobey God, our sin nature, continues today in that it was passed down from our forefathers.

Romans 5:12 advises us how sin has entered into all of mankind.

The Holy Spirit In Us…

Our human nature does not need to end in corruption and death that sin brings to our lives. If we choose to follow the spirit of God, we can have eternal life and not live in sin.

Galatians 6:8advises us that we can choose the Holy Spirit over our flesh.

Sanctification

Our human nature at it’s best is set aside for God. This is where we put God first. This is where we are willing vessels that purify ourselves to be set aside for God’s purpose.

1 John 3:3 and 2 Peter 1:6 advises us that humans can be pure and take on God’s divine nature.

A few years ago for Sarah’s birthday present I booked a VIP balloon flight as she has always wanted to go up in one. There were a lot of cancellations last minute due to poor weather but finally one weekend we got to go on our adventure. The weather as you can see was not very clear, but it was amazing! 😀

Daily Prompt: Uncanned Laughter

The Daily Prompt

Tell us about a time you (or someone else) said or did something unintentionally funny.

Yesterday at the church morning meeting during Holy Communion, Sarah and i were the last to receive the bread plate (Sarah usually reaches and passes me a piece as i can’t really see the plate etc) It is sometimes cut into nice little squares but this time it was a loaf of bread. Then……to my surprise Sarah dumped a massive chunk of bread into my hand (the biggest communion bread i’ve ever had!) This made me start laughing, and as the chuch was silent and somber i quickly switched my laugh into a smile.

I then started thinking how i was participating in an outward sign of an inward grace freely given from God through Jesus. It is an act celebrating Jesus’ gift of new life through his death and his resurrection. It is a celebration of the coming of the new creation first witnessed in and through Jesus. And if this is also a celebration of the FREE gift of new life, then why is everyone so somber? We seem to be so good at focusing on his death, and not so good at focusing on His amazing act of love that gives new life to anyone who chooses it.

Then my thoughts went to what Jesus Did, and continues to do 24/7 as he loves me (and you) that much! This always completely blows my mind as i really am not that special in my eyes, yet he created us and loves and values us more than we can comprehend!! 🙂

Quote from Rev. Edward F. Markquart

Jesus is the source of life, the source of eternal life, the source of the values of our daily lives, the source of love for our daily lives. The basic food staple of the world is bread and Jesus is the basic spiritual staple of the world.

Jesus is never just bread. Jesus is always the bread OF LIFE. Jesus is always the LIVING bread. As we consume bread, it gives us nourishment and energy for our physical lives. As we consume Jesus into our lives, he is the nourishment and energy for our spiritual, emotional and moral lives.

Is Holy Communion a joyful or somber celebration for you? Can it be both?

Joy cannot be pursued. It comes from within. It is a state of being. It does not depend on circumstances, but triumphs over circumstances. It produces a gentleness of spirit and a magnetic personality.

Daily Prompt: 21st Century Citizen

Today’s Daily Prompt: “Photographers, artists, poets: show us MODERN”

I love the 21st century! As a blind person its never been more accessible. Technology has enabled blind and partially sighted people to interact and be less isolated.
In just the 13 years i’ve been registered blind technology and peoples awareness has improved dramatically, and i’m excited to be apart of whats coming next! 😀
