โ˜€๏ธ #42 The Blind Sightseers “Escape The Lockdown” With Distant Memories: “Trapani, Sicily” ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น (2017)

Trapani logo

ย Buongiorno amiciย (Good morning friends) ย

No wayโ€ฆWeโ€™re in Sicily! One of our favourite places to eat is Sicily Restaurant and we always say when speaking to Grace or Dora โ€œWe come to Sicily but weโ€™ve never been to Sicily!โ€ Now that has changed, yay! ๐Ÿ˜€ ย

Now weโ€™re here letโ€™s see what weโ€™ll be doing…

To see the best of Sicily, you have to climb to great heights. And on this trip you’ll do exactly that. After a coach drive to the cable station, youโ€™ll take the cable car up to the top of a mountain. Take in the view out over the Trapani salt pans, the turquoise sea and all the way to the Egadi Islands – it’s breathtaking. While you’re up here, you’ll explore the Medieval town that is Erice. Wander the winding cobbled streets. Visit the Mother Church that’s stood here for over 700 years. And admire the Castle of Venus where the son of Athena, goddess of love, built a temple in his mother’s honour. But save some sighs for the gorgeous Balio Gardens in all their rainbow bright glory. Last but not least you’ll have time to enjoy the atmosphere in Ericeโ€™s dinky plaza, before you take the cable car back down to the ship.

Yayโ€ฆI love cable cars, and weโ€™ve already been on 2 during this lockdown memory tour (see Gibraltar and Matlock Bath).

Leaving the ship…

The breakfast on the Thomson Majesty didnโ€™t disappoint and we stepped out into the warm sunshine. Itโ€™โ€™s September so itโ€™s not boiling hot (28หšC) but itโ€™s much warmer than England. ๐Ÿ˜€ Boarding the coach was fine and it wasnโ€™t long before we weโ€™re driving through the beautiful Sicilian streets and hills.ย

The cable cars…

The cable car seated about 10 people (all in a circle) and we all instantly started chatting about our experiences on cruise ships, other cruises and if weโ€™d been to Sicily before? As this is now our 4th cruise (unbelievable) we sounded like seasoned professionals, lol! ๐Ÿคฃ ย

Then it fell silent as we climbed higher and we all caught sight of the view…ย

view from the cabe car looking down the rolling hills down to the sea

Iโ€™m not sure iโ€™d like cable cars half as much as i do if i was fully sighted. I think itโ€™s because i canโ€™t really tell how high i am as iโ€™m actually a bit scared of heights! ๐Ÿ˜€ ย ย

Sarah said โ€œSteve stop looking out of the window, face me and have your photo takenโ€.ย

Me smiling at the camera sat in the cable car view from the cabe car looking down the rolling hills down to the sea

Beautiful land and secape looking down the rolling hills and into the sea

ย Surely itโ€™s not that time already?? Itโ€™s much to early to be stunned by another blisteringly stupendous Sarah panorama…

Stupendous panorama Beautiful land and secape looking down the rolling hills and into the sea

Hang onโ€ฆHereโ€™s another…

Stupendous panorama Beautiful land and secape looking down the rolling hills and into the sea

Eris…

Wow this place was incredible. It was quite surreal to have climbed so high in the cable car to get to this beautiful town. The colours were so vivid as the bright buildings contrasted the deep blue sky. ย

stunning buildings at the top of the cable cars in Trapini, Sicily

Narrow road with building either side really tall

Following the guide was hard work as the narrow lanes/walkways had large stones (about 4 inches) and were fantastic at tripping you up or stubbing your toe on, if you were lucky youโ€™d do both. But the blind sightseers ย donโ€™t let little details like that stop us, lol! ๐Ÿ˜€ ย

Once weโ€™d walked (and walked) to the very top of the town a Sicilian man came with a horse (maybe donkey i canโ€™t see it or remember, lol) and carriage and played some traditional Sicilian music on his Harmonium.

The plaza…

We had about half an hour free time and Sarah & i quickly went to find a souvenir shop. The main item of sale was the Sicilian nougat which we didnโ€™t really want as Sarah is diabetic. The plaza was beautiful and we spent some time wondering around until we got to sit down.

Sarah sat down with the stunning buildings behind her

Eris was a stunning place and weโ€™re so blessed to be able to visitโ€ฆBut now back to the cable cars.ย

Sarah in shadow on the left looking out of the cable car to the sea below and the coastline of the right

ย Back at the dock…

After a quick refresh on the ship we were ready to explore! The dock was nice and flat and had lots of multi coloured boats in long rows so we looked around here first. Wait a minuteโ€ฆDid Sarah buy one of these little boats in the souvenir shop at Eris, lol! ๐Ÿคฃ ย ย

Sarah bent down and looking into one of the boats in a long row at the dock

Sarah stood in front of lots of colourful boats in the dock at SicilySarah stood in front of lots of colourful boats in the dock at Sicily

Of course we canโ€™t leave Sicily without Sarahโ€™s Sicilian victory pose…ย

Sarah showing her guns in a victory pose stood in front of lots of colourful boats in the dock at Sicily

Trapani town…

We left the dock and started walking along the first street we came to. We noticed that the streets were in a big square and if we walked all the way round weโ€™d end up back here without getting lostโ€ฆHere goes.

โ€œOh it looks like all of the shops and cafeโ€™s are closedโ€ Sarah said sounding a little disappointed. We continued along the second street and still nothing was open. โ€œWe might as well return to the dockโ€ Sarah said โ€œI only wanted to try some Arancini in Sicilyโ€ We always order these in โ€˜Sicily Restaurantโ€™ back home so i thought whilst we were here i’d try one too.ย

Turning right again onto the 3rd street of the square i was increasingly despondent and crestfallen.

But suddenly…

Sarah says with plenty of excitement โ€œSteve look, i thinkโ€ฆYes iโ€™m sure it isโ€ฆLet me go and see if iโ€™m rightโ€ Sarah walks quickly ahead and upon her return says โ€œSteve youโ€™re going to love thisโ€ taking my hand (as i was heartbroken) she led me into a little shop (which is the only one open around here) which only cooked Arancini!! I simply couldnโ€™t believe it! We ordered a couple of different flavours and an espresso too! ๐Ÿ˜ฒย

me sat outside the Arancinu place with the arancini on a plate with a coffee

Wowโ€ฆNow all that is left is the taste test… ย

Me sat outside eating a Arancini wearing my sunglasses

Awww unbelievable now that tastes great! Yet another moment i wonโ€™t stop talking about. ๐Ÿคฃ ย

After a lovely time relaxing, eating Arancini and drinking espresso in the sun it was time to head back to the ship. walking around the last corner of the square we noticed a tiny market stall selling hats. I said โ€œI wonder if they sell a hat with Sicily on for Vini (Nephew) who loves collecting baseball caps?โ€ They did (i holding it in the image below).ย

me stood on the dock carrying the blue sicily baseball cap i'd just bought with the seascape of boats behind me

Yay the ship is here…ย

Sarah in a ruined wall with the ship in the background

Oh no i donโ€™t think i have enough energy left to be able to ย take another stupendous, Magnificent and sublime Sarah panoramaโ€ฆ She keeps top trumping my photography, lol! ๐Ÿคฃ ย

Sarah paorama of the whole dock from behind a wall

Back at the ship…

Me stood underneath the front of the ship with Thomson MAJESTY WRITTEN ON THE SIDE ABOVE MY HEAD

ME STOOD UNDERNEATH THE FRONT OF THE SHIP THAT LOOKS HUGE AND IS TOWERING OVER ME

Sorry guys but no towel folding creatures on this ship!

The blind sightseers had a lovely time in Sicily and weโ€™d definitely return (if we get the chance after lockdown) as there are many more shore excursions for us to try all over Sicily.

We hope youโ€™ve enjoyed Sicily and this new ship? Itโ€™s such a blessing to see you here.๐Ÿ˜€ ย

There are more lies told at funerals!

There are more lies told at funerals!

(Curtis Knapp, 2012)

Have you ever noticed that no matter how wicked a person was in his life, he becomes a saint at his funeral?

In reality, he was a bad father, but at his funeral he becomes a great father in the eulogy given by his estranged children. In reality, he was a bad husband, but suddenly, he is a great husband. In reality he was a very bad person, but suddenly everyone talks about what a good person he was.

He was never in church, but suddenly he is a great Christian man. The minister strains awkwardly to speak glowingly about the man he didn’t know and hardly ever saw. In life, he was primarily noted for his wicked works, but suddenly upon his death he is known as a man of many good works.

In short, they lie! There are more lies told at funerals than perhaps at any other occasion, and that’s the way people want it. If the minister did anything other than lie, the family and friends would be outraged!

God is the only one worthy of a eulogy at a funeral, but no one offers a eulogy to God. Instead, they offer lying eulogies for the sinner who is most likely in Hell at that moment. Think about that. The sinner has already arrived at his permanent dwelling place in Hell. He is weeping and gnashing his teeth and writhing in agony in the flames. He is begging for just one drop of cool water for his tongue, but receives no mercy.

God is not impressed with this wicked man. God sees no good in him.

The inhabitants of Hell are not impressed with him. They don’t care about the time he helped an old lady across the street, and the time he gave money to a charitable organization. They don’t think he is or ever was a good person. They don’t like him and want nothing to do with him.

And yet at this very moment, on earth, in a church or funeral home somewhere–the man’s family and the minister are talking about what a wonderful person he was and how he has gone to a better place!

Have you ever noticed how no one goes to Hell–at least no one you know? When have you been at a funeral at which the minister and family did not conspire together to convince themselves and everyone else that the departed sinner was in Heaven?

Jesus taught us that the road to Heaven was narrow, and said that few find it. Conversely, He taught that the road to destruction was broad, and that many were on it. Yet, according to our funerals, Jesus was wrong. No one is in Hell–everyone is in Heaven! Have you ever noticed that all you have to do to get to Heaven is to die? Instead of believing in justification by faith alone, most people believe in justification by death alone. Death is all that is necessary to be transformed miraculously from a depraved wretch into a shining angel.

Why do we do this? Why do we lie? Ministers often do it because they are afraid not to. Many lie because they are false prophets who deceive people, and a funeral is the perfect opportunity to say “Peace, peace!” when there is no peace.

Some family members lie because they are grasping for some piece of comfort in their loss. But consider: Is grasping at a lie truly comforting?

I suspect that most people play this game of falsehood for selfish reasons. If they eulogize the deceased, then they will also feel better about the state of their own souls. If the departed sinner went to Heaven–then they will surely go to Heaven when they die as well. If everyone is a good person and going to Heaven–then we don’t have to worry about our own spiritual condition.

We hate death. We hate to be reminded of our weakness and our fleeting time here. We don’t like to think about what happens after death. We don’t want to consider that there might be a Hell, and we certainly don’t want to hear that most people go there. We don’t want to ponder those realities, but funerals force us to do so. So we fight back against death and reality by laboring hard to convince ourselves that everyone who dies goes to Heaven.

What does it accomplish? Nothing!
Is God deceived? No!
Will our lies change God’s mind? No!
Will our lies get us to Heaven? No!

I am not saying that I think ministers should stand up at funerals and declare with certainty that the departed person is in Hell. But, when the person’s life gives us little confidence that he or she is in Heaven, it would be far better to remain silent about the eternal destiny of the lost one than to boldly declare that the person is in Heaven. Oh for some honesty in our days!

“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” Matthew 7:13-14

โ˜€๏ธ #41 The Blind Sightseers “Escape The Lockdown” With Distant Memories: “Kotor, Montenegro”๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ช(2017)

Montenegro logo

Good Morning friends! (dobro jutro) ๐Ÿ˜€ ย

Are you ready for a scorcher today? Itโ€™s going to hit 41หšC as the heat wave moves in! โ˜€๏ธ Also i had no idea (until looking) that itโ€™s our 41st day of our lockdown memory tour, fantastic! ๐Ÿ˜€ ย ย

We booked the โ€œBlue Cave Speed Boat Tourโ€ for today but this tour was cancelled (last minute) yesterday evening. The excursion team told us the Montenegro officials read that your were blind and said โ€œA blind person cannot board a speed boatโ€ so they cancelled it! We said โ€œWeโ€™ve done much more challenging things than stepping onto a speed boatโ€ but weย acquiesced and asked if there were any other tours left.

They only had โ€œHighlights of Montenegroโ€ a 10-12 hour tour with lots of walking. I said โ€œWow this is going to be magnificently burning hotโ€โ€ฆI wasnโ€™t wrong! ๐Ÿ˜ฐย

Well letโ€™s see what weโ€™ll be doing…ย

The port of Kotor finds a home on the worldโ€™s southernmost fjord – or the โ€˜Bride of the Adriaticโ€™, as itโ€™s also known. As places go, itโ€™s beautiful. Think blue seas. A stony shore. Green mountains. All drenched in the heavenly scent of lemons, oranges, mimosas and camellias. And hereโ€™s your chance to explore this gorgeous part of the world.

First youโ€™ll stop at the mountain village of Njegusi to taste the regionโ€™s delicious smoked ham and cheese. Stomach full, youโ€™re ready for…

Cetinje. Known as the โ€˜Valley of Godsโ€™, it was once the smallest European capital and itโ€™s filled to bursting with beautiful buildings. Here you’ll visit the King Nikola’s palace before having some free time to stroll around. Next youโ€™re off to…

Budva – the most popular tourist destination on Montenegroโ€™s map. And quite rightly so. Beautiful architecture meets seductive sandy beaches in this spot. Perhaps thatโ€™s why lots of millionaires decide to live here.

Leaving the ship…

After another lovely breakfast we stepped off the ship. โ€œWoahโ€ i said whilst leaving the lovely cool ship and walking into a hot oven. โ€œHow can it be this hot already?โ€ Sarah quickly replied โ€œOohhh thatโ€™s better the ship was freezingโ€. ๐Ÿคฃ ย

On the coach…

A photo of the narrow road taken from our front seats on the coach

Yay, the Thomson excursion team has made sure the tour guide saved us the front seats on the coach. The first challenge (for the excellent driver) was to climb the famous Kotor serpentine road. The road was simply amazing, and witnessing the driver expertly navigate the hairpin turns and narrow road was incredible. The guide passed a picture (see below) around the coach and Sarah took a photo of it so i could zoom in on my iMac at homeโ€ฆThanks Sarah ๐Ÿ˜ฒย

The Kotor serpentine road winding up the side of the mountain.

Arriving at Njegusi…

ย The serpentine was pretty quiet and didnโ€™t have much traffic as it was still early morning. Iโ€™m not sure how he guided this massive coach up and around those bends without flying off the cliff, but iโ€™m glad he did, lol! ๐Ÿ˜€ ย

We reached the top and the view was simply breathtaking! Sarah was stunned on itโ€™s beauty and said โ€œWow you can just make out our ship all the way down thereโ€. ๐Ÿ˜€ย

Photo of Sarah stood in front of and incredible landscape of mountains and a valley looking right down to our ship in the sea a t the bottom

incredible shot of the surrounding mountains and then looking down to the ship at the bottom of the valley

Me in my tactical sun hat stood in front of the mountains and valley

Yayโ€ฆIโ€™m here too! I thought iโ€™d add a photo of me just to make sure you knew i was here, and didnโ€™t collapse into a pool of molten flesh after leaving the ship, lol! ๐Ÿคฃ ย

Sarah stood in front of the mountain top bar/restaurant

ย The group headed into the mountain top restaurant and sat down at tables overlooking the stunning view. I donโ€™t think anyone was hungry as the waiters place a humongous baguette filled with the legendary local ham and cheese in front of all of us. Everyone kept saying โ€œWeโ€™ve only just had breakfast about an hour ago on the shipโ€, even i was struggling and iโ€™m never full! ๐Ÿ˜€ The ham and cheese was super tasty and it wouldโ€™ve been nice to take some home with usโ€ฆBut it was time to go!

ย We had a few more minutes to take some photos of this stunning place as people were filtering onto the coach.

Me stood with the landscape of hills and the valley behind me

Beautiful landscape of the hills, mountains and down to the ship in the sea at the bottom of the valley

A view throught the mountains

Sarah waving stood in front of the ship right down in th bottom of the valley

ย Ok just one more shot of Sarah waving and saying hello to you guys, then we really do have to get back on the coach. ๐Ÿ˜€ ย

On to the next stop…

It was late morning now and the serpentine started to get a little busier.

And then…

Photo to taken from our front seats in the coach of the very narrow road with a coach facing us and having to reverse

The coach hit the brakes, our group said โ€œWooaahhhโ€ and the drivers sorted out a way to carry on. Our coach had to reverse (no idea how he did it) up the hill and around some corners until he found a little pull in. It had taken our driver over half an hour to pull off this manoeuvre, and after a round of applause he drove on. ย

We arrived in Cetinje…ย

Leaving the air conditioned coach and stepping out into the centre of a bubbling volcano (thatโ€™s what it felt like to me)we followed our guide towards the museum, but on the way he quickly stopped to talk to us about a church building.

Vlah church…

Old churh building amongost some trees

Walking along a track the guide pointed out this lovely old church building and started talking about itโ€™s history.

From Wikipedia

The church was initially made of “plot” (Serbian: ะฟะปะพั‚), i.e. of sticks, switches and mud. It was rebuilt three times. First as “suvomeฤ‘a” (Serbian: ััƒะฒะพะผะตั’ะฐ), which means of stones without mortar; then of “klaฤena” (Serbian: ะบะปะฐั‡ะตะฝะฐ), which is stones with lime mortar; and finally, in 1864 the church received its current form. A guard rail around the church was built in 1897 using barrels of Ottoman rifles captured in 1858 during the Battle of Grahovac.ย

The part about the guard rail using barrels of Ottoman rifles captured in 1858 really stuck out to me. I hope my two quickly taken photos showed the guard rail? We didnโ€™t get any closer as the guide was moving fast! ๐Ÿ˜ข

a closer shot of Old churh building amongost some trees

Walking towards the Museum of King Nikola…

Wow it was hot, iโ€™ve never experienced heat like this ย before! The Caribbean heat is much different and there is always a cool breeze, but here there was no breeze and it just felt like my bones were being steamed in a cauldron of boiling water, whilst my skin was being attacked by a million angry wasps with mini switchblades ย cutting into me! ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Then out of nowhere…

Photo taken behind a secret black police car with the door open and in front is the president of Montenegro

I heard cars whiz past and stop close to us, car doors flew open and there was lots of commotion.ย
ย
I said โ€œWhatโ€™s happening? It sounds like the NCIS team has just pulled up and Gibbs and his special agents have just rushed out of their cars?!โ€ I wasnโ€™t too far wrong as it was the President of Montenegro and his bodyguards.
ย
a little further away from the rear black car and looking round to the right at the president
ย
The guide told us to stop and take shade under a tree for a while and heโ€™ll go and sort out what to do next. He was away for quite a while and whilst he was gone Sarah said โ€œHey Steve thereโ€™s a statue over there letโ€™s go and take a photoโ€ i replied โ€œitโ€™s boiling out there iโ€™m staying under this treeโ€, of course this reply didnโ€™t work and Sarah stood me in front of the statue, lol! ๐Ÿ˜“ ย ย

Me stood under a statue in montenegro

The guide returned and told us that the President will be inside the museum we were about to be guided around. So weโ€™ll have our break now of about an hour as another group was before us and will be first to go inside the museum. We wonโ€™t be able to go back to the lovely air conditioned coach but there is the main square just over there, and there are some shops and a cafe. As the group separated we walked towards the square.

Sarah said โ€œThere is not much here but this looks like a souvenir type shop. Letโ€™s get you out of the heat before you explodeโ€. It was a souvenir shop and we bought a lovely painted plate with Montenegro written on and it hangs above the doorway to our kitchen. ๐Ÿ˜€ ย

Montenegro plate

Heading out of the shop we walked around the corner and Sarah said โ€œOOooohhhh look at that dress!!โ€ I knew exactly what the noise meant (as i canโ€™t see what iโ€™m looking at, lol) and we walked towards the shop. The dress was hanging up outside the shop and Sarah was completely taken with it. she said โ€œlook at the designโ€ฆitโ€™s all handmade stitching, the colours are beautiful and itโ€™s simply exquisiteโ€ฆI love it! ๐Ÿ˜ย

Inside the shop…

Minding the step into the shop Sarah had a little look around to see if she could see the dress (the one outside) anywhere inside the shop. The local woman behind the counter said โ€œYou like the dress?โ€ as she held up a black dress that Sarah didnโ€™t want or like. โ€œNo i wanted to ask about the dress outsideโ€ Sarah said whilst pointing out of the window. โ€œThis dress would look really nice on you!โ€ the woman insisted, โ€œno i donโ€™t like that dress itโ€™s too dark for me, do you have the orange and red flower dress thatโ€™s hanging up outside in my size?โ€ย

The woman continued in her heavy accent โ€œYou donโ€™t like? Why do you not like? It look lovely on you!โ€ Just as I was thinking that weโ€™d never get out of here without even looking at the dress the woman said โ€œThere is only 1 of the dress outside but this dress (the one she was holding) we have many. Sarah said whilst looking a little disappointed as there was only 1 of those amazing dresses โ€œCould i have a look at it please and try it on?”

The woman finally put down the other dress and got the one from outside and passed it to Sarah. โ€œWow this is amazing but itโ€™ll never fitโ€ Sarah said whilst trying not to get too excited anymore, but she went over to the changing rooms and tried it on anyway.

โ€œWow, you look stunningโ€ i said knowing sheโ€™s about to tell me i canโ€™t see it very well anyway, lol! โ€œIt fits perfectly, i thought there would be no way it fitsโ€ฆIโ€™ve just got to have itโ€ Sarah said with a beaming smile on her face.ย

Leaving the shop with Sarah (sheโ€™s super excited) still stunned that she’d got the only dress of that kind available and it fitted perfectly, we headed back towards the cafe.

The cafe…

It was really busy and it was the only cafe open around this square and everyone seemed to be here. There was a man selling cold bottles of water under a sheltered bit so we went and bought a couple. Sarah found the only 2 chairs left which were in the sun. As we sat down with a bottle of water each…

Sarah shouted โ€œAArrggghhhhโ€ and flew up out of her seat like iโ€™d just pushed the ejector seat button! At the same time half of the contents of her water bottle hit me in the face and covered mostt of my shirt (i was glad of the cooling down). But i said โ€œWhatโ€™s just happened?โ€ โ€œAwww the burning hot arms of the chair scorched my forearms as i sat down!โ€ Ouchโ€ฆI can still feel it as iโ€™m typing this! ๐Ÿค•ย

Leaving the cafe it was time to meet up with the group to have our guided tour around the museum. On the way Sarah found some art and a fantastic building.

Sarah stood in the bottom left of the shot of the old house fills the rest of the shot with a tree on the right

Museum of King Nikola…

This fascinating Museum used to be the royal palace of the Montenegrin King for more than 50 years. So once the president had left we had our chance to see it. ๐Ÿ˜€ ย

The museum guide took us around the house and explained the significance and rarity of many of the items on display. She brought it all to life with a passion and pride that left a lasting impression.

The museum has many rooms which were presented as they would have looked when used as a royal palace, including the king’s and queen’s bedrooms, reception rooms, official meeting rooms, etc, and the various displays included clothing, weapons, furniture, medals and flags and other regalia from this historical royal house.

The temperature outside was 41หšC but inside it felt even hotter. We were told not to lean on any hanging wall paintings but the heat coming off any one of our group couldโ€™ve melted the painting (and the frame) from 10 feet away! The museum was incredible but everyone was so hot they all just wanted to leave.ย

Just enought time to take one more photo of my beautiful and lovely wife Sarah! โค๏ธย ย

Lovely Sarah walking towards us inf front of a lovely old building

Back on the coach…

โ€œAww feel that air conditioningโ€ i said whilst trying not to melt Sarah with the heat emanating from me! โ˜€๏ธ

Wait a minuteโ€ฆYes itโ€™s that time again!ย

The coach stopped just long enough for Sarah to take a couple of wonderful panoramas.ย

Sarah panorama of the rolling mountainous hills

Another Sarah panorama of the sea surround by mountainous hills

Arriving in Budva…

The guide flew off the coach and continued walking at breakneck speed for about 10 minutes. Sarah and i were tripping up little curbs, dropping down slopes and even started falling away from the group at one stageโ€ฆBut then he stopped to ย show us this beautiful place…

The church with the bell tower on the left

the sea with the coast line on left

The guide said we had an hour free time and to meet him back in the main square ( i think i know where that is, lol). ย

Sarah instantly found a coffee shop and wondered if they did iced coffees like the ones we’d had in Greece? They did even better than that! Sarah got me a massive one and said โ€œIf you stand here in the shade of the coffee shop, iโ€™m going to go and see if i can get onto the beach. โ€œOk iโ€™ll not moveโ€. I didnโ€™t need to move as this iced coffee was incredibleโ€ฆIt even had 2 scoops of vanilla ice-cream with a double espresso poured over the top. I talk about this coffee as many times as i can. Wowโ€ฆThe ice cold coffee contrasting that scorching sun, mmmmmm. โ˜€๏ธย

Yay, Sarah managed to get onto the beach and put her feet on the sand so we were both very happy! ๐Ÿ˜€ ย

Not sure why i took this photo of the path?

A squared stone pavement in the town

We met up with the group and followed the guide back to the coach, the air conditioning wasnโ€™t even cooling me anymore i was just too hot. Iโ€™d been boiled for about 10 hours and i think itโ€™s going to take about a week to cool down. ๐Ÿ˜“ย

Back on the ship…

Wow what a day! 41หšC is the hottest Sarah & i have felt so far on our travels, and we always talk about this day. But first itโ€™s time to meet Brian & Ann for the final time on this cruise .

Youโ€™ll never guessโ€ฆ??

During our lovely 4 course evening meal Brian & Ann gave us this lovely Montenegrian design wooden box as a gift. Ann said โ€œWe didnโ€™t go on any trips today so we looked around the town. We found a craft store and found this lovely box, i knew youโ€™d love it and we just had to buy it for you! We were blown away with their kindness and friendship and we keep this box on our sideboard in our living room. Oh we also still have the 2 chocolates inside which Ann was handing out on her birthday! ๐Ÿ˜€ ย

Montenegro box.jpg made from wood with an amazing colourful picture all ove the top

Back in the cabin…

We were disappointed not to find a folded towel creature on the bed on our last day of this wonderful cruise. But this was the first of 2 cruises Sarah managed to book at the same price as the Barbados cruise and stay we had to cancel. Sarah managed to book them a couple of months apartโ€ฆBut weโ€™re going to jump ship (Thomson Spirit) and climb a board the Thomson Majesty and sail away to our next destination! ๐Ÿ˜€ โ˜€๏ธ โ˜• โ›ด

We hope youโ€™ve enjoyed being on this โ€˜Classical Greeceโ€™ cruise with us? Did you have a favourite place?

Of David, when he feigned madness before Abimelech, so that he drove him out, and he went away.

I will bless the Lord at all times;
his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
My soul makes its boast in the Lord;
let the humble hear and be glad.
O magnify the Lord with me,
and let us exalt his name together.

I sought the Lord, and he answered me,
and delivered me from all my fears.
Look to him, and be radiant;
so your faces shall never be ashamed.
This poor soul cried, and was heard by the Lord,
and was saved from every trouble.
The angel of the Lord encamps
around those who fear him, and delivers them.
O taste and see that the Lord is good;
happy are those who take refuge in him.
O fear the Lord, you his holy ones,
for those who fear him have no want.
The young lions suffer want and hunger,
but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.

Come, O children, listen to me;
I will teach you the fear of the Lord.
Which of you desires life,
and covets many days to enjoy good?
Keep your tongue from evil,
and your lips from speaking deceit.
Depart from evil, and do good;
seek peace, and pursue it.

The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous,
and his ears are open to their cry.
The face of the Lord is against evildoers,
to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.
When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears,
and rescues them from all their troubles.
The Lord is near to the broken-hearted,
and saves the crushed in spirit.

Many are the afflictions of the righteous,
but the Lord rescues them from them all.
He keeps all their bones;
not one of them will be broken.
Evil brings death to the wicked,
and those who hate the righteous will be condemned.
The Lord redeems the life of his servants;
none of those who take refuge in him will be condemned.

Tis but a taste!

(Charles Spurgeon)

“A pledge of ourย inheritance.” Ephesians 1:14

Oh! what enlightenment, what joys, what consolation, what delight of heart–is experienced by that man who has learned to feed on Jesus, and on Jesus alone.ย

Yet the realization which we have of Christ’s preciousness is, in this life, imperfect at the best. As an old writer says, “Tis but a taste!” We have but tasted “that the Lord is gracious,” but we do not yet knowย howย good and gracious He is. We know somewhat of His sweetness, and this makes us long for more.ย We have enjoyed the first fruits–and they have set us hungering and thirsting for the fullness of the heavenly vintage.ย Here on earth, we are like Israel in the wilderness, who had but one cluster from Eshcol–there we shall be in the vineyard!

We are but beginners now in spiritual education; for although we have learned the firstย lettersย of the alphabet, we cannot readย wordsย yet, much less can we putย sentencesย together. As one says, “He who has been in heaven but five minutes–knows more than all the theologians on earth combined!”

We have many ungratified spiritual desires at present–but soon every wish shall be satisfied; and all our powers shall find the sweetest employment in that eternal world of joy.

O Christian, within a very little time you shall be rid of all your trials and your troubles.ย
Your eyes which are now suffused with tears, shall weep no longer.
You shall gaze in ineffable rapture upon the splendor of Him who sits on His glorious throne.ย
Nay, more–you shall sitย with Himย upon His throne!ย

The triumph of His glory shall be shared by you! His crown, His joy, His paradise–these shall be yours!ย
You shall be co-heir with Him who is the heir of all things!ย

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into anย inheritanceย that can never perish, spoil or fade–reserved in Heaven for you!” 1 Peter 1:3-4ย

Corfu logo

Good morning friends!ย (ฮšฮฑฮปฮทฮผฮญฯฮฑ ฯ†ฮฏฮปฮฟฮน) ๐Ÿ˜€ ย

Wow what a day yesterday, itโ€™s time for a little relaxing todayโ€ฆ.

Glyfada Beach is a Blue Flag strip of sand on Corfuโ€™s west coast. Youโ€™ll have three hours to enjoy it during this trip. The soft, golden sand unravels into a crystal-clear lagoon. While behind it, dramatic, tree-peppered cliffs tower over a smattering of shops and restaurants. You can be as relaxed or active as you like โ€“ top up your tan as you lie on a sunlounger*, or get stuck in with watersports*. Thereโ€™s windsurfing, waterskiing and pedal boats up for grabs.

How does that sound for a relaxing day at the beach! โ˜€๏ธ ย

On the dock…

After another lovely breakfast we got off the ship and met up with the excursion team who kindly showed us to our coach. This excursion is a really short one ย and is only 3 hours long, but we thought that Sarah could swim and play in the sea whilst i had a lay down on a sun bed and go to sleep . ๐Ÿ˜ด ย ย

The coach dropped us off miles away from the beach and we had no idea which way to go. Sarah quickly guided (dragged) me as we needed to follow the other people from the coach. The other people soon split and went in multiple directions and we were soon left on our own. After a few wrong turns (about 15 minutes) we were walking along a path parallel to the beach. โ€œThis looks more like itโ€ Sarah said as we were walking down the side of a white hotel looking place. โ€œWait a minute, they said there would be lots of shops and cafes etc and there are none hereโ€. We continued walking towards what appeared to be an empty beach and Sarah said โ€œNo, not this way either, weโ€™ve already been off the coach for about 30 minutesโ€.ย

We started heading back to the parallel path and back down the side of the hotel when…

We heard โ€œThereโ€™s Sarah and Steveโ€ and a few seconds later Brian and Ann (friends we met on the captains night evening) were stood in front of us. โ€œNo wayโ€ i said โ€œFancy meeting you here?! How areyou doing?โ€ They were not impressed and said โ€œWe were on the bus before yours and weโ€™ve walked around the whole place and nothing is open! Weโ€™ve paid good money to be on this trip and there is nothing here worth while, weโ€™ve wasted our moneyโ€. Sarah said โ€œWeโ€™ve also been walking around for ages and your rightโ€ฆThere is not much here. Shall we walk down here and see whatโ€™s on the beach?โ€.ย

Shortly after reaching the beach Ann said โ€œThereโ€™s a cafe type bar over there, let me treat you both to a drink and we can chat for a while and then see what else we can doโ€, โ€œWow thank you so muchโ€. โ˜• ๐Ÿ˜€ ย

The Cafe…ย

The cafe overlooking the beach with lots of umbrellas outside for shade on the sun beds

It was a lovely little cafe/bar facing the sea (i think thatโ€™s what the photo shows above?) and when the waiter had put our drinks down on the table, Brian said โ€œWe enjoyed the meals you left when that huge man stole you from our table, lolโ€ Ann said โ€œOoohhh yeah tell us what happened. Did you get arrested?โ€ ๐Ÿคฃ ย

We had a great time unfolding the events of that evening and told them it was also our 10th wedding anniversary. they both said โ€œWeโ€™ve been married 42 years this year, we married in 1975 as teenagersโ€. โ€œWowโ€ i said โ€œCongratulationsโ€ฆI was born in 1975 and itโ€™s amazing to be married for that longโ€. ๐Ÿ˜€ ย Brian and Ann were from Yorkshire so when Sarah said she grew up in Yorkshire and her family were still there, the conversation kept flowing and we connected really well! Time also flew by as we were chatting, laughing and having a fantastic time after the day had started badly, and we were already half way through our excursion time.

Ann said โ€œHeyโ€ฆWeโ€™ve been chatting for ages donโ€™t let us stop you having your time at the beach. Go and have some time to yourselves. You can leave your bags with us so you donโ€™t need to carry themโ€. Brian added โ€œIโ€™ll get my iPad mini connected to the internet and show you some Facebook photos when you get backโ€. Sarah replied โ€œIโ€™m also on Facebook so we can add each other as friends too and stay in touch”.ย

The beachโ€ฆโ˜€๏ธ ย

Sara at the very bottom walking out to sea with the huge seascape in front of her

I love this photo of Sarah (above) i can spend ages just soaking it in. Sarah works in London and commutes for 3 hours (round trip) into the dull grey and back into the lush greens of home. Her eyes get burned out with all of the close built up areas of London, and they work hard focusing on all of the close up objects and this results in lots of eye strainโ€ฆBut when she is on the ship or on the beach she says โ€œMy eyes totally relax as they love not focusing on close up objects but they rest whilst looking into the distance”. ๐Ÿ˜€ ย

Knowing all of this, i donโ€™t need to tell you that Sarah really enjoys herself when in the sea…ย

Sarah lay down in the sea with a pier in the background

Oh yes I forgot to let you guys knowโ€ฆIโ€™m actually here! Iโ€™m burning hot again but my tactical sun hat is working well! ๐Ÿ˜ฐ ย

selphie of me in my tactical sun hat with my face in the shade from my hat but the sun is shining all around

Back at the cafe…

We returned to the cafe after rinsing off the sand under a tap attached to the wall. Ooohhh that was a lovely cold tap, lol! ย Brian said (whilst looking sad) โ€œThe cafe doesnโ€™t have Wifi so i canโ€™t connect my iPad to the internetโ€ as Sarah said โ€œOh thatโ€™s a shame i was looking forwards to seeing some of your photos, and also searching for my profile and adding you as a friendโ€. I thought for a momentโ€ฆโ€Wait a minute! I think i can do a โ€˜Personal Hot Spotโ€™ on my iPhone if i have a cellular connectionโ€ฆIโ€™ll just checkโ€.ย

I sat down a pulled my iPhone out of my pocket, plugged in my earphones and listened to my Voiceover screenreader. โ€œHey Brian, it says i have 3G so youโ€™ll be able to connect and use my connectionโ€ โ€œWhat? I donโ€™t understand what youโ€™ve just said?โ€ After Sarah talked him through connecting via hot spot โ€œWow thanks, iโ€™m not sure what youโ€™ve just done but thanksโ€ and he opened up Facebook! ๐Ÿ˜€ ย

Ann turned to me and said โ€œHow did you just manage to use your phone?โ€ I turned down the speaking rate to normal and unplugged my earphones, i said โ€œCan you hear it reading out the name of the apps on my home screen, it even puts a box (Voiceover Cursorโ€™ around the app itโ€™s reading out so you can follow along if you have low vision too. โ€œWowโ€ Ann said โ€œthatโ€™s amazing how it does thatโ€. I said โ€œAnd if i tap 4 times with 3 fingers it puts on a screen curtain โ€œItโ€™s gone offโ€ Ann said โ€œNo, it appears that way but it has just made the screen black so i can have privacy too while iโ€™m using my phoneโ€. “Can you read messages too?โ€ Sarah said whilst laughing โ€œOh no donโ€™t get him started, we only have about an hour left and he’ll go on for agesโ€. We all started laughing. ๐Ÿคฃ ย

Time was simply flying by, and after more lovely conversations on an omnifarious amount of topicsโ€ฆIt was time for us all to head back to the coach.

Back at the dock…

Walking off our coach(Brian & Ann had a different ticket) ย and towards the port shop. Sarah said โ€œMaybe this shop will have some souvenirs as all of the beach shops were closed?!โ€ โ€œI hope soโ€ i said whilst following Sarah into the incredible air conditioned shop! โ€œHello againโ€ Brian and Ann said โ€œWeโ€™re looking for souvenirs as the beach shops were all closedโ€ I said โ€œYeah thatโ€™s why weโ€™re in here too, lolโ€.

The handโ€ฆ

Brian, Ann and Sarah had already exited the shop, i was following a few steps behind as i let a man through as he seemed in a rush. I heard Sarah say โ€œCome on Steveโ€ and then a huge fit of laughter burst out of Annโ€ฆThen Brianโ€ฆAnd finally Sarah! They were still doubled over in giggles as i got there. โ€œWow what happenedโ€ i said as iโ€™d just carefully navigated the step upon leaving the shop. Ann said whilst giggling โ€œSarah just grabbed that other mans hand and pulled him out of the shop thinking it was youโ€ Sarah still with an embarrassed laugh said โ€œCome on you, youโ€™ve caused enough trouble , lol!โ€ Now we all burst out laughing! ๐Ÿคฃ

Back on the ship…

Before heading back to our cabin Ann said โ€œItโ€™s my 70th Birthday todayโ€ โ€œWhat?? You kept that quietโ€ Sarah and i said together whilst both in shock. Brian said โ€œWe booked this cruise for Annโ€™s 70th Birthday treat! Would you like to eat with us later to celebrate at the usual place? We meet you at 7pm outsideโ€. Sarah said โ€œYes of course that will be lovelyโ€ฆAnd Happy Birthday Ann!โ€ ๐Ÿ˜€ ย

Sarah instantly crafted a plan…The plan was to wait until the ship leaves the port so that the shops can open. Then we can find a birthday present for Ann before we meet them at 7pm outside the restaurantโ€ฆShe executed her plan perfectly and the present was lovely, Ann loved it! ๐Ÿ˜€ ย

Annโ€™s Birthday meal…

โ‡ง Brian & Annย โ‡งย

We met up with Brian and Ann and sat down at a table for 6. There were another couple sitting down too (sorry forgot their names) but they were also from Yorkshire. Sarah & i thought they must be Brian and Annโ€™s friends but Ann said theyโ€™d just met them before we came in and we asked them to join us. ๐Ÿ˜€ ย

Brian whispered โ€œDonโ€™t say anything but iโ€™ve arranged a special birthday cake for Ann and she doesnโ€™t know.โ€ โ€œAww fantasticโ€ i said. And after our starters and main mealsโ€ฆIt was time!

A small group of waiters led by a guitar player and all singing โ€˜Happy Birthdayโ€™ they arrived behind Ann. She started laughing as they played (and we all sang a long) the birthday song, and when we’d all finished another waiter placed the cake in front of Ann. She was beaming and happily surprised and thanked Brian profusely! โค๏ธ

After a while Brian and Ann said โ€œWe canโ€™t have the rest of the cake as it will make us ill, and the others donโ€™t want itโ€ฆWould you like to take the rest back to your cabin?โ€ Sarah said โ€œWooahhh itโ€™s pretty much all creamโ€ฆSteve youโ€™ll love itโ€ i said โ€œWell what can i say? If it will help you out then iโ€™ll take this burden from you!โ€ ๐ŸŽ‚๐Ÿ˜€ย

Back at the cabin…

We returned once more to our cabin and were met with yet another folded towel creature. ๐ŸŠย

photo of a towel creature lay on the bed

What a fantastic day! We thought this day would be one of the worst, as we only book a beach break when there are no other excursions available. But today was great and spending it with Brian and Ann was lovelyโ€ฆOh they are also our Facebook friends now too. ๐Ÿ˜€ ย  ย

Thank you all for joining us in Corfu. I hope you had a lovely time? Butโ€ฆWeโ€™re not finished yet,

Psalm 84

God’s living presence is our greatest joy
To the leader: according to The Gittith. Of the Korahites. A Psalm.

How lovely is your dwelling place,
O Lord of hosts!
My soul longs, indeed it faints
for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and my flesh sing for joy
to the living God.

Even the sparrow finds a home,
and the swallow a nest for herself,
where she may lay her young,
at your altars, O Lord of hosts,
my King and my God.
Happy are those who live in your house,
ever singing your praise.
Selah

Happy are those whose strength is in you,
in whose heart are the highways to Zion.
As they go through the valley of Baca
they make it a place of springs;
the early rain also covers it with pools.
They go from strength to strength;
the God of gods will be seen in Zion.

O Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer;
give ear, O God of Jacob!
Selah
Behold our shield, O God;
look on the face of your anointed.

For a day in your courts is better
than a thousand elsewhere.
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God
than live in the tents of wickedness.
For the Lord God is a sun and shield;
he bestows favour and honour.
No good thing does the Lord withhold
from those who walk uprightly.
O Lord of hosts,
happy is everyone who trusts in you.

During the past week I have had one of the most severe asthmatic attacks I ever experienced. How painful to labor andย gasp for breath, as I then did. How I long . . .

โ˜€๏ธ #39 The Blind Sightseers “Escape The Lockdown” With Distant Memories: “Olympia, Greece” ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ท (2017)

Olympia logo

Sarah raising her arms in victory stood in front of the Thomson Spirit ship

Good morning friends! (ฮšฮฑฮปฮทฮผฮญฯฮฑ ฯ†ฮฏฮปฮฟฮน)ย ๐Ÿ˜€ ย

We booked this cruise as i really wanted to visit ancient Corinth and Sarah really wanted to go on todays excursionโ€ฆ.Olympia! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ ย ย

Within half an hourโ€™s bus ride of the small fishing village of Katakolon, youโ€™ll find the site of ancient Olympia. Thousands of years ago, the park-like grounds of Olympia were crowded with athletes, preachers, merchants and philosophers. The backdrop was the impressive Temple of Zeus โ€“ famous for its 40-foot statue of the god himself, which was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The temple lies in ruins today, but you can still imagine how its structure would have looked in its heyday. With some help from your guide, the remains of temples, treasuries, porticoes and statues help to bring the site to life.

On the dock…

Meeting our local tour guide off the ship (after an olympic breakfast) we followed her to the coach where the 2 front seats were saved for us again, we really like this Thomson excursion team looking out for us!

The coach had lovely air conditioning again which was great for me, but Sarah had her tracksuit top on as she was freezing, lol! ๐Ÿ˜€ ย After about half an hour we arrived at the site of Olympia and stepped off the coach into the blistering sun. Sarah didnโ€™t have her tracksuit top on anymore, and i instantly started overheating! โ˜€๏ธ ย

We started walking through the areas where the merchants would have been and the workers and cooks etc. โ€œWow, how one earth did they do anything in this heat, they were hardcoreโ€ i said wishing i had more water. ๐Ÿ’ง

The guide was incredible and very passionate and knowledgable about the whole area.ย

Olympic park in Olympia with lots of trees and sandy paths

Me stood on the right hand side with my tactical sun hat and wearing a black shirt in front of the Olympic park

The gym…

Soaking up the blistering heat and more history, we slowly shuffled along to the gym. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ ย

The guide was talking about how the athletes would train (naked) and cover themselves in oil to help collect the dirt, salt, sweat and anything else that stuck to them. Then they would use aย strigil as a tool to scrape it all off before bathing.

The guide then said โ€œDoes anyone know why this place is called the โ€˜Gym?โ€ The group fell silent but before the guide continued i said โ€œGymnรณs (ฮ“ฯ…ฮผฮฝฯŒฯ‚) is Greek for nakedโ€ย The guide happily said well done to me and seemed really pleased as Sarah said โ€œHow did you know that and none of the others did?โ€ is said โ€œI only know a handful of Greek words (bible study and apologetic books)โ€ฆAnd thatโ€™s one of them, lolโ€. ๐Ÿคฃ

We then continued walking to take a look at the temples and the ancient lighting of the torch place.

ย Lighting of the torch…

The guide talked all about the history of lighting the olympic flame and carrying the torch around. She then used her shadow to act out the lighting of the flame at the exact point! ๐Ÿ˜€ ย ย

A shadow across the sandy floor of our guide pretending to light the torch from the ancient games at the exact spot

The ancient olympic track…

Totally dehydrated (note to selfโ€ฆOne little bottle of water isnโ€™t enough) and my skin felt like it was blistering, we approached the archway to the original ancient olympic start line.ย

The ancient archway that leads to the track which you can see through the archway

I thought the huge crowd were cheering away and welcoming us in the true olympic style, but i realised it was the thunderous sound of the cicadas again! ๐Ÿคฃ ย

The start line…

I thought the heat was blistering already but it didnโ€™t prepare me for the inferno when we walked underneath the archway and onto the track. ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Sarah said โ€œSteve youโ€™ve got to get a photo of me at the original olympic start line! Iโ€™ve only been out of my aircast for a few weeks and it would make a great photoโ€ฆZena (Sarahโ€™s friend) will comment straight away and tell me off, lol (she did). ๐Ÿ˜€ ย

โ€œHere goesโ€ i said โ€œNo pressure at all for this shotโ€ฆItโ€™s only a one off pictureโ€ But it worked and Sarah looks fantastic! Sarah had gone for months with an aircast, and now seeing her on the start line looking like a true olympian was another emotional moment for me. She really is my warrior princess wife! โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธย

With our new appreciation of these ancient athletes we slowly made our way to the next stage.ย

The archaeological museum…

You’ll now proceed on foot to the Archaeological Museum, which is one of the most important of its kind in Greece and hosts an impressive collection of artefacts. The new museum was constructed in 1975, and eventually opened in 1982, re-exhibiting its treasures. Following some time here you will join your coach for a drive back to your ship.

It was so crowded inside the museum and we couldnโ€™t get many photos, sorry.ย

The shopโ€ฆ

We now had about half an hour free time so we went straight for the shop. Yay Sarah managed to find a red t-shirt with the winners reef on the front. I just wanted a bottle of water and stood drinking it whilst trying not to collapse with more heat exhaustion!ย

Sarah said โ€œWe canโ€™t leave without buying Suzanne (our friend) something from here. Suzanne is mad about the olympics so it would be great to buy her a souvenir from the actual placeโ€. We did! ๐Ÿ˜€ ย

Back at the dock…ย

the Thompson Spirit in dock

With the ship in sight we had enough time to explore the dock. The dock was great for us and really accessible as it had flat walkways and no surprises. It had a few shops that we could have a look around and see if we can get anymore souvenirs.

We donโ€™t visit many docks with a clear view to the ship, so now we have, weโ€™ll make the most of it, lol! ๐Ÿ˜€ ย ย

On board the ship…

I was absolutely exhausted as we returned to the cabinโ€ฆAnd after drinking about 100 litres of water, cold shower and a change of clothesโ€ฆI was ready for the fantastic evening meal. ๐Ÿ˜€ ย

The photographer…

Our new friends Brian and Ann (met then on the captains night) told us that they had done lots of cruises and had the on board photographer take some photos of them on every cruise. They have a drawer at home full of photos and look at them for lovely memories. โ€œThey are not cheap but you can select as many as you like.โ€. they said as they left the stairway where we had a chance meeting.

Walking up a couple of decks we ran straight into the photographer whoโ€™d set up lights and umbrellas at the top of the stairs. โ€œWould you like your photos taken?โ€ โ€œNo thanks weโ€™re so tired after todays tripโ€ i said.

โ€œWell weโ€™re doing a special black and white photo shoot this evening if you are interested?โ€ the photographer continued as Sarah and i considered it. I said โ€œI can only just stand up as iโ€™m so tired, nevermind trying to smile and look energised, lol! Sarah told the photographer โ€œYes ok weโ€™ll give it a goโ€. The photographer said theyโ€™ll meet us back here in 30 minutes, and could i change my shirt into something more suitable for black and white photos (i had a Caribbean shirt on). Thankfully i have 4 identical black short sleeve shirts and i still have a clean one back in the cabin wardrobe! ๐Ÿ˜€ ย

We are so glad we had the photos taken! We love them and have them set as desktop wallpapers and iPhone lock screen imagesโ€ฆYay more photos of me and Sarah iโ€™ll cherish. ๐Ÿ˜€ ย  ย ย

Psalm 27

God as our antidote to fear and loneliness

Of David.
The Lord is my light and my salvation;
ย  ย whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life;
ย  ย of whom shall I be afraid?ย

When evildoers assail me
ย  ย to devour my fleshโ€”
my adversaries and foesโ€”
ย  ย they shall stumble and fall.ย

Though an army encamp against me,
ย  ย my heart shall not fear;
though war rise up against me,
ย  ย yet I will be confident.ย

One thing I asked of the Lord,
ย  ย that will I seek after:
to live in the house of the Lord
ย  ย all the days of my life,
to behold the beauty of the Lord,
ย  ย and to inquire in his temple.ย

For he will hide me in his shelter
ย  ย in the day of trouble;
he will conceal me under the cover of his tent;
ย  ย he will set me high on a rock.ย

Now my head is lifted up
ย  ย above my enemies all around me,
and I will offer in his tent
ย  ย sacrifices with shouts of joy;
I will sing and make melody to the Lord.ย

Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud,
ย  ย be gracious to me and answer me!ย
โ€˜Come,โ€™ my heart says, โ€˜seek his face!โ€™
ย  ย Your face, Lord, do I seek.ย

โ˜€๏ธ #38 The Blind Sightseers “Escape The Lockdown” With Distant Memories: “Itea, Greece”๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ท(2017)

Itea logo

Good morning friends! (ฮšฮฑฮปฮทฮผฮญฯฮฑ ฯ†ฮฏฮปฮฟฮน)ย ๐Ÿ˜€ ย

Letโ€™s see where the โ€˜Blind Sightseersโ€™ are going today… ย

ย Youโ€™ll visit the glorious mountain setting for this monastery with outstanding Byzantine mosaics. Osias Loukas (Holy Luke) settled here in the early 10th.century and the church was built over his grave around 963 AD. It is the earliest extant domed-octagon church, and is a Unesco World Heritage Site.

On the dock…

The Thomson excursion team didnโ€™t disappoint again and were waiting for us as we stepped off the ship. The kind man (sorry forgot his name) walked us to the correct coach as they have booked us the front 2 seats again. He also climbed aboard and said โ€œIโ€™m coming on this tour too and i can keep an eye on you both so you donโ€™t get lost or have any disastersโ€. โ€œFantasticโ€ i said to Sarah as it makes us less stressed knowing there is one of the excursion team (and not just the local guide) on the trip with us.

On the coach…

โ€œWowโ€ฆThere are loads of goats in a field. Steve if you could see youโ€™d really like this, lol!โ€ ๐Ÿคฃ ย

lots of goats in a field of yellow grass

Yay weโ€™ve arrived…

As the monastery was set in the hills there was not much to see as we stepped off the coach. The guide then led us to the top of the steps that circled round and down to the monastery.

โ€œSteve we have lots of long steps going down, iโ€™ll let you know when the next one is approachingโ€ Thank you my loveโ€ i said stepping down the first step. Sarah continued โ€œStep down nowโ€ฆthen 1, 2 , 3 flat steps and then step downโ€ I obviously have to slow down because if i slip or fall just once i could twist or snap my ankle (especially with my weight, lol). โ€œ1,2, step down, 1, 2, 3 step downโ€ isnโ€™t my wife amazing?!ย

There must have been about 2,000 steps as it took ages, but we wer’nt last and the Thomson man walked with us all of the way, i told you he was a kind man! ๐Ÿ˜€

At the bottom of the steps…ย

Reaching the bottom of the steps without tripping or slipping once (thanks to my amazing guide Sarah) there was a small cafe, shop, monastery and a museum. โ€œWow youโ€™d neve guess all of this was here when looking from the topโ€ i said whilst looking at this beautiful place.

IMG 5858

The guide said we have about 10 minutes before we can go inside the church. It was lovely in the courtyard and looking over the valley down below.

Rolling hills and olive rees

olive trees and rolling hills taken under a over hanging tree

As i was taking the 2 photos above i knew i couldnโ€™t get the whole landscape in 1 photoโ€ฆBut i know someone who can!!!ย

Youโ€™ve guessed itโ€ฆA stupendously sublime Sarah panorama.

Breathtaking panorama of the rolling hills and olive trees

Then as we were looking out (arm around each other) soaking up the hot sun, the Thompson man walked up behind us and asked if weโ€™d like a photo together? โ€œWow yes pleaseโ€. Another photo of me and Sarah iโ€™ll cherish…

Me and Sarah with arms around each other and the rolling hills of olive trees etc behind us

The church…

The guide said we had to wait for the monks to disappear as they donโ€™t want to be around us, so they have to leave and not be seen. โ€œThatโ€™s evangelismโ€ i said as the guide was passing Sarah an ankle length skirt. โ€œYou have to put this on if you want to go insideโ€.

Entrance to the church

As we walked inside the church it was a lot cooler (i was thankful for that) and it also had a peaceful atmosphere. The knowledgable guide told us all about the architectureย of the church and the golden mosaics of the saints and apostles. I didnโ€™t start a discussion on the Iconoclastic Controversiesโ€ฆI just enjoyed listening to the guide whilst Sarah captured a couple of photos. ๐Ÿ˜€ย

Inside and much darker image of the iside arches and roof

ย Back in the courtyard…

There was a little shop where you can buy local honey, olive oil and some other lovely souvenirs. Sarah bought some honey (we thought it would be good for hypoโ€™s) and olive oil for us to try on salads (Oopps, i accidentally said saladsโ€ฆI meant steak, lol) when we get home.

The queue was pretty long in the shop so unfortunately we didnโ€™t have time to have a proper Greek coffee in the cafe. We met back up with the group and headed towards the mighty steps.

I am much better walking up steps as the step casts a shadow and i can just make out the contrast and figure out where the steps areโ€ฆAnd itโ€™s much easier to fall upwards than fall down and keep rolling head over heals until youโ€™re left in a crumpled, crushed and broken mess at the bottomโ€ฆLeft to exsanguinate as your life slowly slipps away, one blood drop at a time!ย ๐Ÿค•

Returning to the dock..

The coach dropped us back right near the dock and as the excursion was only a short oneโ€ฆWe had time to explore a little of the town, yay!ย

Oh did i mention it was burning hot?!ย โ˜€๏ธ ย

iPhone weather app showing Itea, Greece at 36ยฐC

I know for most of you (and especially Sarah) that 36ยฐ isnโ€™t that hotโ€ฆBut for me who wears cargo shorts all year round (even through the winter) it is burning. โ˜€๏ธ ย

We started walking and noticed their wasnโ€™t many people around, as not many places were open. So we turned back and headed up the other street. We found a huge cafe/restaurant and headed inside. The place was empty but we could hear a coffee machine and some pots in the back rattling. โ€œIโ€™m not sure where we can order from? And iโ€™m not sure if this place is open?โ€ Sarah said whilst trying to find anyone at all. We walked back outside and Sarah said โ€œThere is a woman serving coffee to those people right over there (on the dock overlooking the sea about 100 metres away) but itโ€™s much too far to be part of this cafeโ€.

We walked around a little further and made sure there were no other shops in the area, then we headed back to the dock to get a table and wait for the barista. โ˜• She did walk all the way back to the cafe weโ€™d just been in to get the coffeesโ€ฆWow iโ€™d collapse of heat exhaustion. ๐Ÿค•ย

The view of the sea and dock from the coffee shop seating area...I am right in the bottom right hand corner of the shot

Wowโ€ฆThis was the view we had from our table! We had plenty of time to just chill (burn) and relax and just soak in the view. Sarah and i love being beside the sea either like this or on a beach, as we live in a super green area near trees, village greens and conservation areasโ€ฆSo we love having holidays with sea and sand! ๐Ÿ˜€ โ˜€๏ธย

Yesterday we had our first โ€˜Fredo Cappuccinoโ€™ in the cafe in Corinth, so when the barista placed 2 of them down in front of us we both grinned. ๐Ÿ˜€ โ€œWowโ€ we both said โ€œthis is the best one so farโ€ i said whilst trying not to drink it all in one go! We had about 2 hours before we needed to get back onto the ship, so we ordered 2 more fredo ย cappuccinos. After a while i asked to order 1 more for me and the barista said โ€œNo youโ€™ve had 2 already and youโ€™re not having a 3rdโ€ i thought she was joking until i tried asking again! ๐Ÿ˜ข

After the amazing coffees we decided to have a quick walk up and down the empty dock before heading back on board.ย

Sarah taking a panorama of the dock area

ย Back on the ship..

We had time to refresh and change out of our sweaty clothes and make our way out on deck for a couple more shots before we leave the port. ย

Sarah's panorama taken from the ship with the island in the background and the ship in the right hand side

Wowโ€ฆAfter another stunning Sarah panorama, i thought iโ€™d show you my new t-shirtโ€ฆItโ€™s archangel Michael fighting the war in heaven from Revelation 12:7-9ย (for the record…I donโ€™tย worship God through the use of icons, statues, mosaics or my t-shirt. There is oneย mediator between man and Godโ€ฆThe Lord Jesus Christ).

Me atood on the deck with my new shirt on with arch angel Michael fighting Satan

We had a lovely evening meal again and when we returned to our cabinโ€ฆYay a fantastic towel elephant! ๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿ˜€ ย

Wow what another interesting, beautiful and ย scorching day, i hope you enjoyed it as much as us?! See you tomorrow for the day Sarah has been waiting patiently for! ๐Ÿ˜€ โ˜€๏ธ ย

Praise God and proclaim his glory

Oย sing to the Lord a new song;
ย ย ย sing to the Lord, all the earth.ย
Sing to the Lord, bless his name;
ย ย ย tell of his salvation from day toย day.ย
Declare his glory among the nations,

For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised;

For all the gods of the peoples are idols,

Ascribe to the Lord, Oย families of the peoples,

The worst part of you!

(Daniel de Superville, 1657โ€“1728)

People often say,ย “I have my faults, but at the bottom I have a good heart.”

A good heart! Alas! it is this that deceives you, for your heart isย the worst part of you!

“The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked!
ย Who really knows how bad it is?” Jeremiah 17:9ย

The politicians, the philosophers, the sages of the world, are all shams!
What have they done toward the cure of the human heart?

Blessed be God! We recover more by the second Adam, than we lost by the first!

“I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean;
ย I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols.
ย I will give you aย new heartย and put a new spirit in you;
ย I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.

โ˜€๏ธ #37 The Blind Sightseers “Escape The Lockdown” With Distant Memories: “Corinth, Greece”๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ท(2017)

Corinth logo

Me stood on the right with my arms out stretched and waving as the Thomson Spirit shit covers the whole background

Good morning friends! (ฮšฮฑฮปฮทฮผฮญฯฮฑ ฯ†ฮฏฮปฮฟฮน)๐Ÿ˜€ ย

I love the fact that weโ€™ve just sailed to Corinth on the โ€˜Spiritโ€™ and weโ€™re now going on a trip along the Corinth canal, then to walk around ancient Corinth in the historic footsteps of the Apostle Paul. To say i was excited is an understatement! ๐Ÿ˜€ย

But firstโ€ฆโ˜€๏ธ ย

Iโ€™m not good in the sun but Sarah comes alive in the scorching hot weather. So i sloshed on my sun cream as it was already 36 degrees outside (ouch) Iโ€™ve also bought myself a โ€˜Tactical Sun Hatโ€™ to try and keep myself cooler in the sun and provide a little shade with the wide rimโ€ฆIt worked really well but i was still dripping like a candle in a Salvador Dali painting! ๐Ÿคฃ ย

Corinth canal…

Get ready to be impressed. The Corinth Canal marries up the Gulf of Corinth in the northwest with the Saronic Gulf in the southeast. Itโ€™s 3.9 miles long and its width varies from 69 feet at the bottom to 82 feet at the water’s surface. Before it was built, ships sailing between the Aegean and the Adriatic Sea had to circumnavigate the Peloponnese, adding another 185 miles to their journey. On this fascinating tour youโ€™ll drive to Isthmia, around 1 hr’s drive, where a boat will be waiting to whisk you off. Sit back, relax and enjoy the views as you sail through this famous canal. Along the way, your guide will tell you interesting facts about the way it was built.

ย We stepped of the air conditioned coach and just as i said โ€œArgghh now thatโ€™s hotโ€ Sarah said โ€œWow thatโ€™s better, it was freezing on that coachโ€ we followed the group to the boat.

After Sarah excellently guided me onto the boat, we took our seats. The whole trip was just stunning and we were blown away by the walls of the canal and the sheer size of it. The guide was telling us all about the history etc over the loud speakers (my fave part as i canโ€™t see the scenery until i get home and really zoom in for a blurry look). I do listen and hear Sarahโ€™s detailed descriptions of the landscapes and any other points of interest. I also take in the other people around me and their reactions too.ย

Another photo taken from the front of the boat looking up the canal with tall walls either side and a bridge on top crossing over.

ย The Peloponnese…

Now for a blistering Sarah panorama! ย

A Sarah Panorama of the end of the canal where it expands into the vastness of the sea, with land touching each side

Another Sarah panorama with the sea and land stretching from end to end with rolling hills and mountains in the background

After doing a 180หš turn we headed back down the canal, fantastic! ๐Ÿ˜€ ย ย

Me stood right at the rear of the boat with the beautiful Corinth canal in the background

ย Ancient Corinth…

You’ll now take a short drive to ancient Corinth, where you’ll have the opportunity to explore the ruins of the “Agora” marketplace as well as the Temples of Apollo and Aphrodite.

We shot off the coach and followed the guide closely from the front, the path was all uphill and did i mention it was scorching hot?!ย โ˜€๏ธ I kept saying to Sarahย โ€œWow the Apostle Paul actually came here!โ€ and after about the 10th timeโ€ฆWeโ€™d reached the top.

Me stood in front of the ancient Temple of Apollo wearing my tactical sun hat

Sarah and the Temple of Apollo

Temple of Apollo

After a brief history lesson all about the temples and the culture as it was back in the day, we headed along another hot dusty path and ended up at the Synagogue. โ€œWowโ€ i said โ€œPaul wouldโ€™ve visited this actual Synagogue several timesโ€ฆItโ€™s simply amazing that iโ€™m standing in biblical historyโ€.ย

Upon leaving the synagogue the guide stopped and pointed to an ancient hebrew marking on the wall. Sarah quickly took a photo of it to share. I continued โ€œWow, Paul may have walked under this very arch, wow!โ€ ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

A remain of the Jewish Synagogue where the Apostle Paul teached and preached

The Agora…

Moving further down and heading towards the agora, the sound of the cicadas were deafening, they were almost drowning out the voice of the guideโ€ฆIt sounded like i was walking around with a massive bee hive stuck on my head but less sticky and much less painful! ๐Ÿคฃ ย

โ€œWowโ€ฆthe beema ย seatโ€ i said whilst trying to get excited but actually about to collapse due to heat exhaustion. โ€œThe agora! This is where the Apostle Paul wouldโ€™ve been making tents..No way!โ€ i kept going โ€œDid you know Paul stayed in Corinth for about 18 months and he wouldโ€™ve have frequently visited and worked around here!โ€ Sarah replied โ€œYes i know Steve itโ€™s incredible, but weโ€™re getting left behind as you keep stopping and making wow noises, lol!โ€ ๐Ÿคฃ ย

โ€œSarah could you take some photos of me in the Agora and in front of the beema seat? Iโ€™d love to have a photo as a keep sakeโ€ฆOh and have i mentioned that the Apostle Paul wouldโ€™ve been around here?!โ€. Sarah puts up with a lot! ๐Ÿคฃ ย ย

Me and the Agora

The cicadas were still singing their thunderous lament as we walked deeper into the Agora. The guide stopped to show us the ruins and described how it would have looked and what would be happening back in classical times. ย

lots of stones which are the ruins of the Agora in Corinth

ย And then…

Just when you thought it couldnโ€™t get any betterโ€ฆSarah managed to fit the whole place in one monumental panorama! ย

A Fantastic Panorama taken by Sarah of the Agora

At this point i was so exhausted, head and shoulders stooped forward and my mouth was dry and frothing. I managed a slow shuffle back to the air conditioned coach. Sarah said โ€œOh itโ€™s freezing on here!ย

It still blows me away when i think of this excursion to ancient Corinth and how we were actually there. ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

Back at the ship…

After freshening up back in the cabin, we still had a few hours before the ship left port. Weโ€™ve found that if the excursion leaves us with a few hours to spare we can use the ship as the starting reference and go and explore the town nearest to the dock (any further and weโ€™ll get lost). This makes for a full day as we can go on the excursion around the island and then visit local shops and markets around the dock areaโ€ฆYay! ๐Ÿ˜€ย

Wowโ€ฆDid i mention it was hot! โ˜€๏ธ ๐Ÿ˜ฐ

iPhone weather app showing Corinth at 36ยฐ and sunny

โ€œYayโ€ฆSteve a beach!โ€ Sarah shouts as we step out of the dock, she continues โ€œNo way, holidays donโ€™t start until iโ€™ve put my feet on the sandโ€ฆCome on!โ€ I was just about to protest (as iโ€™d left my beach shoes in the cabin) when Sarah dragged (i mean guided) me onto the powdery sand.ย

The boiling hot sun, the powdery white sand and the gentle touch of the sea rolling over Sarahโ€™s feet educed a wonderful smile. ๐Ÿ˜€ ย

My new Microfibre towel…

We were now wet, frazzled and covered in sand and we walked for a while before we found a bench under a large tree. โ€œYesโ€ฆHere you goโ€ is said as i unclipped my new microfibre hand towel from my carabiner loop on my BDU shorts. I bought this little towel just before this cruise as i wanted to be more prepared as we learn a little more what we need from each holidayโ€ฆAnd this time it worked beautifully! ๐Ÿ˜€ ย

After a while we were both sand free, dry and ready for a cold drink. We walked down a few streets then Sarah said โ€œSteve, i think this looks like a cafe? I wonder if they do iced coffees?โ€ โ€œI hope soโ€ i said feeling like a pulsing nuclear reactor.ย

They did the best iced coffee (Freddo Cappuccino) and even a sugar free one for Sarah…ย

Sarah enjoying an iced Cappaccino outside the Cafe in Corinth

As we were sitting outside drinking our amazing coffeesโ€ฆThe man weโ€™d met at the Captains table last night walked past and said hello. โ€œWowโ€ i said to Sarah after a brief chat with the man, โ€œWeโ€™re even making friends and itโ€™s only the first day off the shipโ€.ย

Sadly itโ€™s now time to return back to the shipโ€ฆ

Me stood in the middle of the road with buildings either side in Corinth

As we were walking towards the ship and the dock was emptyโ€ฆWe stopped for a few photos…ย

Then…

As we were taking lots of photos, another nice person from our ship walked up behind us and asked if weโ€™d like a photo together?! โ€œOh yes please that would be so kind of youโ€ i said as i passed her my phone. ๐Ÿ˜€ ย

Back on ship…

Weโ€™d had a fantastic day and had lots to talk about with ย the people sat around our table at the evening meal. Itโ€™s lovely to hear other peoples stories from what they had done throughout the day, and to hear the adventures from the other excursions.

Finallyโ€ฆJust when you think the day is over, we have another fantastic folded creature.

Psalm 8: Worship of our Creator God

To the leader: according to The Gittith. A Psalm of David.
Oย Lord, our Sovereign,
ย  ย  how majestic is your name in all the earth!ย

You have set your glory above the heavens.
ย ย ย Out of the mouths of babes and infants
you have founded a bulwark because of your foes,
ย ย ย to silence the enemy and the avenger.ย

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
ย ย ย the moon and the stars that you have established;ย
what are human beings that you are mindful of them,
ย ย ย mortals that you care for them?ย

Yet you have made them a little lower than God,
ย ย ย and crowned them with glory and honour.ย
You have given them dominion over the works of your hands;
ย ย ย you have put all things under their feet,
all sheep and oxen,
ย ย ย and also the beasts of the field,ย
the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea,

Oย Lord, our Sovereign,
ย ย ย how majestic is your name in all the earth

Let this comfort you:

Let this comfort you:

(Letters of John Newton)

“My times are in Your hands!” Psalm 31:15ย

What a mercy it is that all our concerns are in sure hands! Not aย hairย of our heads can fall to the ground, but by the appointment of Him who orders and marshals theย starsย and calls them all by their names!

Diseases and sicknesses areย His messengers, and, when they have answered His end–then He will recall them. But on many accounts there is aย need beย that we should sometimes be in heaviness for a season. O may we learn to take up the cross, and to kiss the rod of affliction. We need to look through allย second causes–to Him who appoints and over-rules, and without whose permission, not a hair of our heads shall fall to the ground.ย

The Lord has promised to direct, moderate, sanctify, and relieve every trial of every kind. I long to have a more entire submission to His will, and a more steadfast confidence in His Word–to trust Him and wait on Him–to see His hand, and praise His name, in every circumstance of life, great and small.

Isย sicknessย your present cross? It can come no sooner, nor fall heavier, than He bids it. And when His end is answered, and His hour comes to give relief–then sickness departs at His word. The cure becomes easy then, even where it seemed desperate before.ย

Our comforts are never safer than when we can fully trust the Lord to do with them, and with us–as He sees fit. He will not willingly or unnecessarily grieve His redeemed children. When His arm seems lifted up to strike them–how often does He put it into their hearts to run toward Him and humble themselves before Him, and thus prevent the blow!

We shall have cause to be thankful for all our afflictions–if the Lord is pleased to employ them as means to make us more humble and broken-hearted, and to wean our hearts from this vain world.

Sickness often gives us a sensible proof of the vanity of everything earthly. May the Lord sanctify our sicknesses and pains, to quicken our desires for that better world, when pain shall be no more!

Let this comfort you:ย that Jesus is the Great Physician!ย

“Great crowds came to Him, bringing the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute and many others, and laid them at His feet; and He healed them!” Matthew 15:30ย

10th Anniversary

Sarah i wedding photo

Wow, i still canโ€™t believe itโ€™s been 10 years since our amazing wedding day!ย โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธย

An unexpected blessingโ€ฆ..

This cruise holiday has been such an unexpected blessing, as Sarah had another “Charcot Foot (diabetic problem)โ€ and was in an air-cast for the last 5 months. We had to cancel our Barbados cruise and stay weโ€™d booked for our birthday celebrations in Aprilโ€ฆBut Sarah had it removed a few weeks ago and sheโ€™s been strengthening her leg for this cruise. So we are amazed to be spending our 10th wedding anniversary (July) visiting some fantastic places! ๐Ÿ˜Ž ย

Sea logo

Breakfastโ€ฆ..

We slept really well and caught up on the sleepless night we had yesterday. We thought weโ€™d go to the Compass Rose (waiter service restaurant) for our 10th anniversary breakfast. It didnโ€™t disappoint and we had porridge, omelette, fruit, nuts, seeds, bacon and bananas (not all together, lol). ๐Ÿฅ“ย

Swimmingโ€ฆ..

After exploring (getting lost) in the many different stairways, corridors and decks ย around the ship, we were trying to familiarise ourselves with our fave places so we could find our way back much more easily. we nipped back to our cabin to get our things ready for a couple of hours sunbathing and swimming. Sarah loves swimming (as you can tell in the photos below) and had an excellent time enjoying her anniversary in the pool! ๐Ÿ˜Ž ย

Sarah laughing and really enjoying swimming in the pool on the ship

The Towel Swan Heartโ€ฆ..

After having lots of fun, we headed back to our cabin where we were surprised to find two towel swans placed in the shape of a heart, with flowers and our cards etc in a beautiful display. We rushed out to find the cabin stewards and thanked them profusely… whilst Sarah took lots of photos!ย

The invitation…

Earlier this morning Sarah had found an invitation pushed under the cabin door. โ€œThis looks a bit fancy, itโ€™s only an invitation to the formal evening. We have to sign it to say that weโ€™re going, then hand it back to receptionโ€ฆ..Seems like a lot of paper work to me.โ€ โ€œOh right, i suppose they need to know how many people will be in the restaurant for dinner this evening, it must be the policy for formal night on this ship. It was different on the Dream shipโ€ i replied. ๐Ÿ˜•

I hadnโ€™t brought my tuxedo this time as it filled half my suitcase the time before and i didnโ€™t want to waste that amount of space again. I did bring my trousers though as we like the waiter service meal in the evenings. โ€œ i hope they donโ€™t chuck me over-board for not dressing smart enough.โ€ Sarah told me… โ€œYouโ€™ll be fine, lol, itโ€™s only for one evening and your new black shirt looks smart enough anywayโ€.ย

Formal Eveningโ€ฆ..

As Sarah & i wereย queuing up to enter the show lounge, the photographers were taking our photos.ย

Me on the left wearing a black shirt and Sarah on the right wearing a beautiful while dress with a black ribbon tie

ย โฌ† Me & my lovely Wife Sarah โฌ†ย

After listening to the Captain introduce himself and some of his crew, we headed to the Compass Rose restaurant where we planned to have a lovely four course meal.ย

We said we didnโ€™t mind sharing, and the waiter sat us right next to a window (yay) on a four seater table. We introduced ourselves to Brian & Anne (more about our new friends in later posts) and they kindly read out the menu for us. After ordering from each section of the menu, we got to chatting.

AND THENโ€ฆ..

An enormous shadow, from an even bigger man darkened our whole tableโ€ฆ.. โ€œSteveโ€ฆ..FOLLOW MEโ€ said the man with a really deep transylvanian voice. I looked at Sarah, and then back at the man โ€œFOLLOW MEโ€ he said again. Sarah said โ€œCan i come with himโ€ โ€œyESโ€ he said as we started to stand. We said to Brian and Anne โ€œI think weโ€™ll see you later, weโ€™ve only just ordered our food, and if weโ€™re not backโ€ฆ..youโ€™ll get double, lolโ€.

As sarah guided me behind this Behemoth of a man (not joking, he was about 7ft tall and 5ft wide) up a few flights of stairs, Sarah said โ€œWhere is he taking us?โ€ โ€œI think weโ€™re going to the plank, or at least being court marshalledโ€ was my apprehensive reply.

We finally entered a small bar area where Claudia (the social director) greeted us with a glass of Champagne and a smelly fish bite (i donโ€™t like fish, if youโ€™d not guessed, lol) and showed us to our seats. Claudia said โ€œI thought you werenโ€™t going to make it?โ€ โ€œTo make what?โ€ Sarah replied still looking bemused. “You got the invitation?โ€.Sarah said โ€œYesโ€ฆ..the one to the formal eveningโ€. Claudia then said โ€œNo, that was an invitation to the Captains table and an evening with the Captain.โ€ โ€œOoooppsโ€ i misread it as a general evening invitation (easily done as the iPhone magnifier isnโ€™t as good as the large CCTV we have at home)โ€. Sarah whispered to me โ€œThe Captain and his other guests were waiting for us up here, as we were seeming to ignore them and eating our meal already with someone else.

The Captains Tableโ€ฆ..

Since Sarah & i already knew the menu (thanks Brian & Anne) this was our easiest food ordering to date. We had a lovely meal and a fantastic time chatting with everyone around the table. It was really interesting hearing everyones stories and experiencesโ€ฆ..Sarah already has her next cruise planned in her mind after asking the Captain what place he liked best after 30 yrs of cruising the seas, lol.ย

Now it was time to leave again for the Show Lounge to watch possibly the worst show we have ever seen (heard for me, lol.). ๐Ÿ˜Ž ย

Wow, What a memorable 10th Wedding Anniversaryโ€ฆ. ย ย

Retiring back to our cabin (making sure we didnโ€™t upset the swans), we talked about our memorable day and how weโ€™d never forget our 10th Wedding Anniversary! Now it was time to sleep, as itโ€™s an early start once we arrive in Corinth. It was also the start of 5 full days of excursions weโ€™d booked and we were really excited, even though we knew the temperatures were going to reach up to 41โ„ƒ because of a heat wave across south east Europe (ouch). โ˜€๏ธ ย

Thank Youโ€ฆ..

Sarah & i would like to thank you once again for celebrating our 10th Wedding Anniversary and for all of the lovely messages you sent us.

The throne of grace

(Henry Law, “Family Prayers”)

Holy, holy, holy Lord God Almighty, Heaven and earth are full of Your glory! Blessing and honor and glory and power be to You, O Father of mercies, O God of all grace and love.

We thank You, that, as vile and sin-soiled as we are–we may come into Your immediate presence, and hold this converse with You, and commune with You concerning all ourย concerns, all ourย sins, andย fears,ย andย hopesย andย desires.ย

We are astonished that we, poor sinners on earth, may speak directly to You–our greatย and glorious God, on Your throne in the Heaven of heavens! How wondrous the thought thatย our poor breathingsย may fly on theย wings of faith, and have instant access to the ears of Your grace!ย

We thank You that, in the multitude of Your tender mercies and the riches of Your pitiful compassion, You have been pleased to erectย this throne of graceย before which we now most humbly bow. We bless You that here, free grace reigns. We bless You that, at all times and in all places, we have open access toย You through the blood of Your dear Son.ย

We bless You that theย veilย is open, and that in His great name we may ever approach and find You . . .
ย  ready to hear,ย ย
ย  waiting to be gracious,ย
ย  arrayed in smiles of love,ย ย
ย  bidding us to touch the scepter of Your sovereign mercy,ย ย
ย  inviting us to pour out every need and desire of our hearts,ย ย
ย  and promising to give more than we can ask or think.

Grant, oh grant, that we may be wholly consecrated to You. May we, in spirit, soar farย above earth. May our hearts be fast barred against admission of worldly thoughts or cares. Send Your peace, passing all understanding, as a flood into our anxious minds.ย  May our meditations of You be sweet. May we drink deeply of the refreshing streams proceeding out ofย Your throne. May we feast on the heaven-sent manna of Your precious Word, and thus gather strength for the upward race.

Hear us, answer us, bless us we pray. All we ask is in Jesus’ name, and for Jesus’ sake. Amen.

“Therefore let us approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” Hebrews 4:16 ย

Wow, Wow, Wowโ€ฆ..Sarah & i have had a fantastic time away celebrating our 10th Wedding Anniversary. Letโ€™s go and see where weโ€™ve been and what weโ€™ve beenย up to!ย ๐Ÿ˜€ ย

Taxi, Train & The Thomson Planeโ€ฆ..

As the taxi was booked for 3:30am, we thought it would be a good idea not to go to sleep as it makes us more tired if we only sleep for an hour or 2 (we were wrong, we’re super tired now).

There was a little scare as Sarah felt funny, so she did a blood test in the taxi and found it was going low. โ€œOh no, not alreadyโ€ i thought as Sarah was already sorting it out with a few dextrose. Sarah felt better as we arrived at the airport and with a small struggle to find the suitcase check-in desk, we were finally sorted and heading for the airport assistance.

The assistance took us through security which all went well, until Sarah showed them her insulin pumpโ€ฆ..Then (as they think itโ€™s a detonator) they told Sarah to take of her shoes etc. and carefully and slowly scanned her whole body for explosives.ย

Following the guide to our seats in the departure lounge, Sarah & i were looking forwards to a nice bacon roll and coffee. Her work colleague had told her to try this as weโ€™d not had anything to eat since yesterday afternoon… we were ready for it! BUT the airport assistance were too efficient this time and before we had time to figure out the direction of the bacon, the guide took us on the โ€œFun Trainโ€ and straight onto the plane! ๐Ÿ˜Žย

The Airplaneโ€ฆ..

As i sat down after being expertly guided to my seat, i said โ€œWait a minuteโ€โ€ฆ.. I was feeling underneath the window at the up & down dimmer switches whilst stretching my legs out testing the large leg room. โ€œThis isnโ€™t an Airbus A320! Itโ€™s the 787 Dreamliner. Wow i didnโ€™t think it was going to be this monster for a two and a half hour flightโ€ Sarah said โ€œWow, youโ€™re still getting excited about flyingโ€ฆ. you must really love itโ€ I said โ€œOh Yeah!โ€. ย

Time for a snackโ€ฆ..

Since we couldnโ€™t have our fantastic bacon roll at the airport, we decided to share some chunky potato wedges on the plane. Sarah simply couldnโ€™t eat them (and i even struggled)โ€ฆ. they tasted (and were as dry as) a sun dried bath sponge! ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Welcome to Dubrovnik airportโ€ฆ..

Dubrovnik Logo

The airport assistance at Dubrovnik were fantastic and before we knew it, we were on a coach arriving at the dock ready to board the Thomson Spirit. We’d only been on the Thomson Dream which is bigger, so we were excited to explore this different ship.

We were fast-tracked again through all of the check-in procedures and were soon dropping our bags off in our cabin ready to go and explore! ๐Ÿ˜Ž ย

A beautiful landscape of the port of Dubrovnik stood on top of the ship

โฌ† View of Dubrovnik bay from the Thomson Spirit โฌ†

We managed to weave our way through the many stairways and decks and eventually made it up to the top which was lovely and quiet to take a look around, take some photos and soak in the view and the hot sun. โ˜€๏ธ ย

We were surrounded by a sea of blue, sky of blue, deck of blue and Sarahโ€™s new โ€œHokusai” dress …of blue. ๐Ÿ˜Ž ย ย

Coffee, Life Jackets & Dinnerโ€ฆ..

After enjoying ourselves on the top deck, we looked around for a place to have a nice coffee. We knew this ship had no “Coffee Port” like on the Thomson Dream, so when we found “Raffles Bar” and ordered a Cappuccino (for me) and an Americano, we were even more excited as the coffee was well-nice and strongโ€ฆโ€I think we can get used to this!โ€ I said sitting back into my large comfy armchair. โ˜• ย

The assistance was fantastic again and the life jacket drill went really smoothly, i think weโ€™re finally getting the hang of this. lolย

We found the โ€œCompass Roseโ€ waiter service restaurant which was very similar to the โ€œOrionโ€ restaurant on the Thomson Dream, we said we didnโ€™t mind sharing a table with others as we always need an unsuspecting guest to read the menu for us, which is always a laugh for all involved and itโ€™s a great conversation starter! ๐Ÿ˜€ ย

After a fantastic four course meal, it was time to take one last tour around the ship to see if weโ€™d remembered where anything was before retiring to our cabin after a very long day!

Thank youโ€ฆ..

I would just like to say a huge thank you(to you the reader and fellow traveller) for staying with us on another long and tiring day! ๐Ÿ˜ฐ

every living creature is fashioned with such skill, andย
every burning star is guided through space with as much care–
as if it engrossed the entire attention of God, and there was not another but itself within the bounds of His universe!

The number of objects our hearts can hold, or our arms embrace, or our eyes watch–is limited; confined within a narrow range–they areย smallย at the largest, andย fewย at the most.ย

And with fires fed we know not how, the sun shines today as bright as ever–his eye not dim, nor his natural strength abated!

And as this is but an image, and a faint image, of God–then well may his servant assure us, that there shall be no lack to those who fear Him. None–neither for the body nor the soul; neither for time nor eternity!

Look up today, O parched plant!

Grace logo

Look up today, O parched plant!

(Charles Spurgeon)

“I will send down showers in season; there will beย showers of blessing.” Ezekiel 34:26

Here isย sovereignย grace, “Iย will send down showers.” Is this not sovereign, divine mercy–for who can say, “Iย will send down showers,” except God? There is only one voice which can speak to the clouds, and bid them beget the rain. “Who sends down theย rainย upon the earth? Who scatters theย showersย upon the green herb? Do not I, the Lord?”ย
Grace is the gift of God–and is not to be created by man.ย

It is alsoย neededย grace. What would the ground do without showers? You may break the clods, you may sow your seeds–but what can you do without the rain? As absolutely needful is theย divineย blessing. In vain you labor, until God bestows the plenteous shower, and sends salvation down.ย

Then, it isย plenteousย grace. “I will send downย showers.” It does not say, “I will send themย drops,” but “showers.” So it is with grace. If God gives a blessing, He usually gives it in such a measure that there is not room enough to receive it. Plenteous grace! Ah! we need plenteous grace . . .
ย  to keep us humble,
ย  to make us prayerful,
ย  to make us holy,ย
ย  to make us zealous,
ย  to preserve us through this life,
ย  and at last to land us in Heaven!ย
We cannot do withoutย saturating showersย of grace.ย

Again, it isย seasonableย grace. “I will send down showersย in season.”ย
What is your season this morning?ย
Is it the season of drought? Then that is the season for showers.ย
Is it a season of great heaviness and black clouds? Then that is the season for showers.ย
“As your days–so shall your strength be.”ย

And here is aย variedย grace. “I will give you showersย of blessing.” The word is in the plural. All kinds of blessings God will send. All God’s blessings go together, like links in a golden chain. If He givesย convertingย grace–He will also giveย comfortingย grace. He will send “showers of blessing.”ย

Look up today, O parched plant, and open your leaves and flowers for a heavenly watering!ย

Yayโ€ฆItโ€™s Sarahโ€™s Birthday!!! I wonder if itโ€™ll be memorable?! ๐Ÿคฃ ย

Good morning WordPress family! Are you up for some โ€˜River Tubingโ€™ today? Weโ€˜ve never tried this before and after our kayaking yesterday we thought it would be a relaxing way to gently float downstream ensconced in the lush landscapes and soothing sun โ˜€๏ธ ย Well here goes…

Our initial thoughts were this excursion really wasnโ€™t for us as it sounds like a big park where you have to find all of the events yourselves (thatโ€™s not our strong point as we both have sight problems). We are much better with a tour guide who we can follow than to be left alone and get lostโ€ฆBut we really wanted to try โ€˜River Tubingโ€™ so letโ€™s do this! ๐Ÿ˜€ย

It was an 8 hour excursion and when it took 2 hours to get to Xel-Ha (a seriously bumpy boat and a mostly smooth coach) we thought โ€œIf itโ€™s 2 hours here and 2 hours back, surely not even we can get too far lost in 4 hours?! Lol famous last wordsโ€ ๐Ÿคฃ ย

Welcome to Xel-Ha…ย

An exciting adventure awaits you at the sacred Mayan paradise, Xel-Ha. In this natural lagoon, which was sacred to the Mayans, you can experience some fabulous snorkeling in a natural tropical aquarium, viewing an amazing variety of multi-colored fish and tropical marine life in beautiful clear waters. Upon arrival, your guide will escort you through the park for an orientation, then you are on your own to enjoy time to swim, walk the jungle paths, stroll the beach, relax in a lounge chair,or snorkel at this beautiful lagoon.

Xel-Ha offers a collection of coves, caves, inlets and lagoons. Both the Caribbean Sea and the network of underground rivers and springs feed this area, filling the lagoon with both salt water and fresh water. This sometimes gives an almost 3-D viewing of the alluring coral formation and the myriad of tropical colored fish.

an amazing panorama of the whole lagoon at the mexican

Leaving the coach and making our way to the lockers and changing rooms Sarah managed to take this stupendous panorama. Itโ€™s a beautiful placeย

Sarah said โ€œThere is no way iโ€™m swimming in there!! I donโ€™t mind the crystal clear sea but no way will you get me in thereโ€ โ€œThatโ€™s ok my love you donโ€™t have to swim when your river tubing anyway, so we can just relax and enjoy. We just need to remember where the changing rooms are when the guide leads us so we have a reference pointโ€.ย

Shortly after, the guide stopped and said to meet him in 4 hours back at the main entrance so we can get the coach back. I said โ€œOh, the entrance is miles away as weโ€™ve been walking for a while and i have no idea where it is, lol But here are the changing rooms so iโ€™ll wait right here for youโ€. I like to be the pack donkey on all of our tours and i carry the towels, sun cream and other stuff and if Sarah goes swimming, i carry her insulin pump etc. This works really well for me as i donโ€™t really like swimmingโ€ฆI donโ€™t think iโ€™ve been swimming at all since going blind 16 years ago!ย

Yay, Sarahโ€™s here so letโ€™s try and figure out where things are…๐Ÿ˜•

a panorama taken on one side of the river and looking over to the other side. The river running left to right

ย Oooo another panorama from Sarah! Well at least weโ€™d found the river again, so if we follow it up hill we should find where the river tubing starts?! This sounded like a good plan until the multi direction trails didnโ€™t follow the river. After walking for quite a while in the scorching sun, we somehow managed to find the bag check-in for the river tubing, yay thanks Sarah! ๐Ÿ˜€ย

Sarah had to now unplug her insulin pump and put it in my backpack, and after a quick blood test (ouch, her blood sugar was good) i hesitantly handed in my backpack. As we havnโ€™t got a GoPro or anything (really wish we had one after all of these trips) we had to hand in our iPhones too, so i knew we wouldnโ€™t get many photos of the day, sorry! ๐Ÿ˜ขย

Right, letโ€™s go โ€˜River Tubingโ€™…

We entered another locker room and most of the people in front of us were putting on flippers and snorkelling gear, i said โ€œOh, iโ€™m not dressed for any of this, i didnโ€™t think you had to put all of the gear on. I thought it was just the river tubing up here?โ€ โ€œDonโ€™t panic we are only here for the river tubing but you can also (if you want) do snorkelling etcโ€ โ€œExcellent, thanks”. Sarah is fantastic at sorting things out . “Iโ€™ll sit in the rear hole and you sit in the front hole as i will weigh the back down and it will look like a speedboatโ€. ๐Ÿคฃ ย

After we laughed loads as we had many attempts of climbing aboard, we were ready!ย

The Mangroves…

“Wow those branches are lowโ€ i said while ducking even more although i was practically lying down. It was my first experience of mangroves and as we had no outboard engine we were using the branches and the sides to propel ourselves forward. As it looked exactly like the old Tarzan films iโ€™d watched as a kid, i was picturing (in my mind) a crocodile (or 10) sliding in from the side and tactically stalking us ready for the barrel roll! Nevermind the flesh eating lizards sat on the branches waiting for dinner to float by, lol.

As my mind was racing but our river tube wasnโ€™t going anywhere fast, i focused on all of the laughter going on around us. There were lots of us slowly getting to grips with how to manage this new speedboat. Sarah said โ€œWow there is a tiny baby strapped to the front of that woman in one of the other boats so it canโ€™t be that hard, lol!โ€. After about 10 minutes we cleared the mangroves and the beautiful landscape unfolded before our eyes! ๐Ÿ˜€

a panorama taken on one side of the river and looking over to the other side. The river running left to right

There wasnโ€™t much current and the river didnโ€™t slope much, so our progress was slowโ€ฆBut wow, the feeling of floating downstream through this film set landscape with my arms around my lovely wife Sarah was beautiful โค๏ธย

After a while the river tubers were thinning out and there were only a few of us left, this made it even more blissful and quiet.

Then…

Time was passing by easily, and we quickly realised there wasnโ€™t anyone around and the river had got quite wide (with our eyesight anyway) and we were alone! The river tube wasnโ€™t moving, even our hand paddling had little effect. I suddenly felt a burst of speed as Sarah had sat up and put her legs in the water and was kicking her feet (like the flintstones). Suddenly she whipped her feet back up and said โ€œi think a fish (or octopus) has just tried to grab my leg?!โ€ โ€œOh no thatโ€™s not goodโ€ i said as the โ€˜Master of obviousโ€. Then she said โ€œNo wait there, my trainer laces had come undone whilst under the water and started stroking my leg, lol!โ€ โ€œOkโ€ i said โ€œWe need a action planโ€ย

ย Our predicament…

We were floating alone, the river banks were getting wider and wider and we knew it joined up with the Caribbean sea at some point. We couldnโ€™t hear anyone and we were thinking weโ€™d maybe already passed the exit of the river tubing and we were floating out into the sea. The midday sun was scorching and we knew it was time to act.

Weโ€™d passed a huge board (see below) whilst walking up to get the river tubes that displayed all of the fish/sharks that live in the water, and as itโ€™s fresh water going to sea water the fish grow much bigger. Iโ€™m glad i couldnโ€™t see what was on the board!

IMG 4283

Knowing all of this, and knowing i havnโ€™t swam since going blindโ€ฆI knew now was the time to โ€œMan Up” and lay down my life for my wife and save her! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ ย

The plan…

I said to Sarah โ€œIโ€™m going to jump in the river and grab hold of the back of the river tube and then stretch out and kick my legs like a snorkeler and pretend to be an outboard motor, and you can sit up front and be the navigator and try and get us back (or anywhere we can get off)โ€. “Right sounds like a planโ€ฆLetโ€™s do this”.

I jumped in and instantly regretted it. I thought i could still swim in my head but my body didn’t have the same idea. After coughing up loads of water and nearly drowning through lack of swimming abilityโ€ฆI slowly adapted and grabbed hold of the river tube.ย

At least we were now gaining speed ย and heading in what we thought was the right direction. After what seemed like 10 weeks (it was more like 10 minutes) Sarah said (I still canโ€™t see anywhere to get off the bank and it all still looks the sameโ€ฆBut there are a few rocks sticking out of the water where we can hopefully stop and rest whilst regrouping and updating our plan.ย

The rocks…

Yay, we made it to the rocksโ€ฆOh wait a minute, wow these rocks are super slippy (i was like Scooby Doo slipping on a banana skin) ! Sarah was already on top of one of the rocks and looking to see where we could go next and if there was a way out of this crocodile and Piranha infested water. Just as iโ€™d steadied myself and caught my breath (i was exhausted) Sarah slipped backwardsโ€ฆ๐Ÿ˜จย

All i heard was a loud thud and a โ€œAagghhhโ€ noise from Sarah โ€œSarah, are you alright?โ€ I knew we were surrounded by so many pointy rocks and if sheโ€™d slipped and hit her head on one of those rocksโ€ฆIt was curtains. We had no phones or anything out here and no way of calling out as we canโ€™t hear anyone or see anyone. So when i heard โ€œItโ€™s ok i just slippedโ€ from my warrior wifeโ€ฆI felt so relieved. I said โ€œWhat was the loud thud sound? Are you ok?โ€ โ€œYeah i missed the more pointed rocks and just hit my back on the other rock. Iโ€™m ok thoughโ€. I let out a huge sigh (just like our Boxer dog Bruce used to make).

Just then i spotted a slight movement out of the corner of my blurry eyes โ€œWhatโ€™s that Sarah?โ€ i said while pointing downwards near her feet. โ€œWow, itโ€™s a snorkelerโ€ โ€œThat means we canโ€™t be too far away nowโ€ฆOr it means there are some massive fish, sharks, octopus or crocodiles around hereโ€. Just after saying this the snorkeler had gone and it was time for us to carry on and hopefully find base camp.ย

Sarah was sat firmly on the front of the river tube and i was hanging on for dear life while trying to get a nice solid and consistent thrust from the back. Sarah was expertly navigating from the front and when she said โ€œright a littleโ€ i twisted and kicked until the river tube turned to the right,, we are getting the hang of this, lol.ย

My thoughts quickly returned to โ€œAny minute now i could get savaged by any of the mutated creatures in here, and they would start on Sarah next! But then Sarah said โ€œI think i can see a way out of here?! It looks like there are long steps on the right bank and we could climb out onto land. โ€œWow, letโ€™s go” I said whilst trying not to drown as i was getting really tired now. ๐Ÿ˜ฐ

โ€œYes, just a little further. It looks like we can pull up here alongside these stepsโ€. We finally hit the steps and Sarah climbed out. The steps were really long but only went a couple of steps into the water, so when i grabbed hold of the first step my legs flew underneath and tried to drag me under. Thankfully i had jus enough energy to hang on and throw my leg over and onto the steps (iโ€™m sure Sarah didnโ€™t have this struggle, lol). Pulling the river tube up onto land, we sat back on the steps and thought for a moment about what just happened?! We also knew that Sarah hadnโ€™t done a blood test for quite a while and hasnโ€™t got her insulin pump attached, so her blood sugar could be anything.

As we sat on the steps totally thankful weโ€™d made it out of the water, i looked down directly into the water right next to the stepsโ€ฆโ€What are they?โ€ I was pointing at what looked to me like a fleet of black stealth submarines taking cover next to the steps. I know my eyes are really poor but if i can make something outโ€ฆIt must be massive, lol! Sarah said โ€œThey are fish (i think) and they are massive! โ€œI was just right there a minute agoโ€ i said not quite believing how close they wereโ€ฆBut weโ€™ve made it out of the infested waters. Now we might have the same challenge (but on land) as we try and figure out where we are??

The next stage…

We were just pulling the river tube further inland, whenโ€ฆโ€Is that music i can hear?โ€ i said as i was trying to clear my ears of water โ€œYes it isโ€ Sarah said โ€œItโ€™s coming from over thereโ€. Sarah took my arm and we started walking towards the sound. Almost instantly the trail opened out and we were standing at the bag check-in desk! โ€œNo wayโ€ we both said at the same time, i said ย โ€œItโ€™s not possible that weโ€™re here, weโ€™d gone miles into nowhere! Is the Bermuda Triangle near here?โ€ ๐Ÿ˜

After i got my backpack and Sarah had her insulin pump connected, she quickly did a test and her blood sugar was perfect! ๐Ÿ˜€ We found the changing rooms and when we were all changed we headed for the inclusive lunch.

As we only had to follow our noses (it wasnโ€™t far at all) Sarah found a table in the sun and we sat down. โ€œWoahโ€ i said โ€œHow did that quickly turn into a โ€˜Blind Sightseersโ€™ dramatic adventure?โ€ โ€œI know, but how amazing how we ended up right back here! Anyway, letโ€™s get you a burgerโ€ฆYouโ€™ve earned itโ€ ๐Ÿ” ย

After a lovely burger and an ice cold bottle of water, we started walking around to see if we could find anything else. Donโ€™t worry, we stayed on the larger trails and we kept other people in earshot. ย

Sarah stood in front of the a panorama taken on one side of the river and looking over to the other side. The river running left to right

Sarahโ€™s Sunglasses…

As Sarah also has sight problemsโ€ฆShe has a pair of Oakley sunglasses with a particular polarised lens (normal lenses donโ€™t help her eyesight) but like the photo above showsโ€ฆThey are gone!! ๐Ÿ˜ข We have no idea when (or where) they had gone missing, we only know they are gone. I handed Sarah my own but they only had normal lenses and were not any good for navigation etcโ€ฆBut they did help stop the glare from the hot sun. โ˜€๏ธย

Sarah stood in front of the amazing landscape of the river going into the sea with rolling hills all a round

IMG 4308

Youโ€™ll never guess what we found next??? Yay, a zip line…

Sarah saidย โ€œWow a zip line, iโ€™ve never had a go on one of these. It looks amazing and i canโ€™t believe weโ€™ve found itโ€. Whatโ€ฆCan i really say no?!ย ๐Ÿคฃย

Sarah sat on a zip line seat going left to right with a big smile on her face

Wow, the action never stops, lol! Sarah must have had spinach for lunch as she seems to have more energy than Popeye and the Duracell bunny combinedโ€ฆI just wanted to sleep, lol! But how can you stop when that smile burns hotter than the sun! ๐Ÿ˜€ โ˜€๏ธ ย

And finallyโ€ฆYay , sheโ€™s not a machine!ย

Sarah lying in a hammock which is tied to some trees

Itโ€™s time to start heading back…

After one more ice cold drink we asked the server which way the main entrance was, she pointed in the general direction and we thanked her. We started walking and talking about the day weโ€™d had and how amazing the place was even though itโ€™s not quite over yet. โ€œWeโ€™ll defo remember this placeโ€ i said (we talk about this day all of the time). Arriving at the main entrance area Sarah said โ€œThere is a photo kiosk over there, letโ€™s ask and see if they have any photos of us?โ€ I said a little confused โ€œI didnโ€™t know they were taking photos but it would be great if they have any of us river tubing etcโ€. ย

The photos…

Sarah was not happy after speaking to the man as he had just dismissed her saying โ€œIf you didnโ€™t scan your armband before each event then we canโ€™t find you on the systemโ€ Sarah had told him that we were both registered blind and we werenโ€™t told about scanning for photos and we certainly canโ€™t see it. Sarah continued โ€œWe will buy any of the photos you have of us as we really want to remember the dayโ€. The man was having none of it and walked away. Sarah started walking back to me when she saw another man stand behind the kiosk. She returned and said the same to himโ€ฆHe was really helpful and understood our problem, he continued to search the whole day, looking through thousands of images to see if he could find any shots of us…

Then he saw Sarah on the zip line. โ€œYes weโ€™ll have itโ€ Sarah said, she waited a while longer for him to search some more. The coach was arriving any minute too and we were running out of time fast. He frantically started searching but he couldnโ€™t find anymore photos. โ€œOkโ€ Sarah said โ€œCan i buy it here?โ€ He said no and that she had to go over the courtyard to have it put in a sleeve and then she can buy it. Sarah came and grabbed me as she knew iโ€™d be worried as itโ€™s been taking longer than expected. โ€œWhere are your sunglasses (my sunglasses)โ€ i said โ€œOh man, donโ€™t say iโ€™ve put them down somewhere and iโ€™ve lost them too?โ€ย

After buying the photo (see the fantastic zip line shot of Sarah above) Sarah was adamant (she wasnโ€™t losing 2 pairs of sunglasses today) and blitz between all of the counters sheโ€™d been atโ€ฆNothing. Then she asked the man and he started searching all aroundโ€ฆNothing. Then just as everyone had given up, the man had found them in lost property where one of the staff had put them. Phew! ๐Ÿ˜€ ย

We also managed to get back to the coach in the nick of time and now we can relax for a couple of hours as we return to the ship.

In the coffee port…

As it was Sarahโ€™s birthday she ordered an amazing chocolate, waffle, ice cream coffee dream cakeโ€ฆSarah had a tiny taste with a tea spoon (as sheโ€™s diabetic) so it was left for me to step up to the plate, man up (again) and try to enjoy this delicious coffee cake thingy! Itโ€™s tough sometimes being the husband of a T1D (Type 1 Diabetic) Iโ€™ll give it my best shot! ๐Ÿคฃ ย

ย We had a lovely evening meal and as always Sarah had the lovely cheese board to finish. I think thatโ€™s what the photo below is showing?! ย

Fance cheese and biscuits for Sarahs birthday

Finally we finished off this amazing, challenging, exhausting, conquering and blessed day with (yes youโ€™ve guessed it) Sarahโ€™s special sugar free Mojito and i had a BBC.ย

Me on the left with arms around sarah and both smiling at the camera with braided hair and a cocktal in hand

ย Thank you so much for celebrating Sarahโ€™s birthday with us, itโ€™s a day weโ€™ll never forget (and havenโ€™t). ๐Ÿ˜€ย

SARAH SAT IN FRONT OF A LARGE COSTA MAYA SIGN WITH THE LOVELY BLUE SEA IN THE BACKGROUND

ย Sarah welcomes you to Costa Maya…

Our Kayak excursion didnโ€™t start for a couple of hours, so we had time for a look around yet another nice dock. As youโ€™ll remember from a couple of days ago Sarah said:

“Why donโ€™t you get them to braid your hair as the wind’s been annoying you all day, and you wonโ€™t have to touch it for the rest of the holiday?!

ย Sarahโ€™s hair has been blowing around all over the place since we arrived in Jamaicaโ€ฆAnd now it was her turn for the braides, no more worrying about windy hair syndrome. ย

A PHOTO OF SARAH'S BEAUTIFUL COLOURFUL BRAIDS

Right, now is the time for the kayaking excursion. Wow what a bumpy coach rideโ€ฆ”Oohhh a lighthouse, quick Steve pass me your phoneโ€. We were being thrown around all over the place but Sarah just managed (no idea how) to get a glimpse of the lighthouse!

12 LIGHTHOUSE AT COSTA MAYA

The Kayaking beach…

This is what greeted us as we got off the coachโ€ฆ๐Ÿ˜€ ย

SARAH SAT AT THE BASE OF A BEAUTIFUL PALM TREE WITH THE AMAZING BLUE SEA AND YELLOW SAND LANDSCAPE BEHIND HER

ย After putting all of our things in our backpacks and securing them in the lockers back in the bar type place just out of shot (above) we made our way back onto the beach to get our life jackets and meet our kayak.

We all gathered around the instructor as he demonstrated how to enter properly, how to paddle and of course the safety drills. I said to Sarah โ€œI think this is a step too far, i canโ€™t see him or anything heโ€™s pointing at or showing us, but i am listening to what heโ€™s sayingโ€ she said โ€œOnce we get you in the kayak youโ€™ll be fine as i know you have done canoeing as a kid and itโ€™ll all come back to you as itโ€™s similarโ€.ย

Now it was our turn to enter the two seater glass bottomed kayak (well i almost fell in as it was a lot lower than i thought) and as i fell i head butted Sarah on the way down. Sarah said she was fine but after i regained consciousness she passed me the paddle. โ€œOh yes, itโ€™s just like the ones i used as a kid when canoeing with my dad. Itโ€™s going to be okโ€ฆOh wait, i canโ€™t see where iโ€™m going, lol!) ๐Ÿ˜€ย

Sarah took her position in the back seat as the navigator. We thought she could hit my left shoulder to go left and right shoulder for right, that makes sense, i just hope i donโ€™t get her paddle around my head, lol! ๐Ÿคฃ ย

As the instructor pushed us away we heard lots and lots of wow, cheering and nervous laughter. It was an amazing feeling to be floating out on the still waters and with a glass bottomed kayak Sarah could see the ocean floor. After while everyone got into the swing of things and we managed to form an orderly queue behind the instructor.

We followed him out to sea until we stopped over the barrier reef. Everyone was Ooohh and woowwwoooing so it must have been beautiful. It felt amazing being in crystal clear waters with no land in sight, we just sat there stunned.

We paddled a little further and we seemed to overtake most of our group as they had sunk and were trying to get back into the kayak (wow they are sighted too so we must be doing something right, lol. Steve donโ€™t get too cocky too soon).

The instructor stopped a lttle further on and we all bunched together. He was trying to pass something round for people to hold but the people were not impressed. Then he came to meโ€ฆBefore Sarah had time to say โ€œHeโ€™s blind and canโ€™t see it and he doesnโ€™t like creepy crawliesโ€ he had put it on the top of my handโ€ฆ๐Ÿ˜จย

It felt soft and obviously wet and if i could see i probably wouldnโ€™t have let him put this black death starfish onto my hand. It looked like a massive tarantula to me as i could just make out the black against my skin. I was just waiting for the huge teeth to sink into my flesh and tear it from my bonesโ€ฆWhen he took it back and placed it into the sea. Phew!

Wow i wish i had a GoPro video camera, itโ€™s simply stunning…

โ€œHey Sarah watch this!โ€ i said as we were gathering speed. โ€œWow a handbrake turnโ€. I remember as a kid and learning canoeing, that if you jam the end of the paddle straight down and grip firmlyโ€ฆThen the canoe spins round about 180 degrees (similar to a handbrake turn in a car) and i thought iโ€™d see if it happened the same way in a kayakโ€ฆIt did and as i was really impressed with myself for pulling it off Sarah was quietly impressed (i think, lol).ย

More Barrier Reef…

We stayed out over the barrier reef for another hour or so just paddling slowly, then stopping and taking in the vast ocean and the feeling of fresh air with the gentle rocking of the kayak, it was so peacefulโ€ฆA little too peaceful!ย

โ€œWhere is everyone?โ€ i said as i could see no other kayaks or the shoreline. โ€œI donโ€™t know i think they have headed back to get the sun loungers for the next hour of the excursionโ€ We were quite far out and couldnโ€™t figure out which way to head back to shore. I started thinking of the Jaws film and the zoomed in shots of the faces crumpled in fear as the shark fin circles in closer and closer.ย

โ€œI think itโ€™s that wayโ€ Sarah said as she hit my right shoulder. โ€œOk, letโ€™s goโ€. We started heading slightly towards the shore when…

A really loud whistle and a shout came from our 2 oโ€™ clock. It was the instructor from what seemed like miles away but we could hearr him as though he was sanding right next to us. That was the sound i needed and swiftly pointed the kayak in his direction and floored it! ๐Ÿ˜€

Back on shore…ย

ย I love palm trees, especially this shape (above) and this one is just fantastic!ย

ย Yay we made it!! Our first kayaking adventure and it was simply breathtaking. The Blind Sightseers have managed another challengeโ€ฆNow lets go and relax for a while.

After a nice slice of pizza (with salad as iโ€™m being good) we took our towels and inclusive bottle of local lager and found two sun loungers between two palm trees. The white sand and the crystal clear sea framed our afternoon perfectly! โ˜€๏ธ ๐ŸŒดย

ย Iโ€™m not sure if this was a private resort but the beach was emptyโ€ฆYay! ๐Ÿ˜€

โ˜€๏ธ #31 The Blind Sightseers “Escape The Lockdown” With Distant Memories: “Roatan, Honduras”๐Ÿ‡ญ๐Ÿ‡ณ(2016)

Honduras logo

Good morning friends! Yay we made it off the ship, and after a lovely breakfast ย we managed to find the coach. ๐Ÿ˜€ย

First on the agenda is the Roatan Butterfly Farm, home to a technicolor mix of native butterflies and tropical birds. Once youโ€™ve gotten to grips with Roatanโ€™s feathered friends, itโ€™s time to delve into the deep blue and see whatโ€™s going on under the water. And thatโ€™s where the next part of the tour comes in. Youโ€™ll head back to the coast, climb aboard the Roatan Reef Explorer โ€“ a miniature submarine โ€“ and travel six feet below the water to explore a coral reef. Back on dry land, youโ€™ll call in at the quaint village of West End. Once youโ€™ve had a good look round, itโ€™s on to the highest point of the island for some of the best views around. Rounding things off, youโ€™ll get a chance to buy some handicrafts on the way back to port.

Hey Steve, stand there and smile! ๐Ÿ˜€ ย

1 Roatan Me and Palm Tree

ย We stopped off at the butterfly farm and Sarah instantly made some new friendsโ€ฆ

Roatรกn is such a special and lovely place, the time seemed to just slip away whilst watching Sarah with her new friends. This trip really showed the beautiful nature preserve in all its wild beauty.ย ย

2 Roatan Sarah and the Monkey

3 Roatan Sarah and the Parrot

ย ย The semi submarine…ย

ย Wow it was hot, dark and narrow down there. Once iโ€™d smacked my shin on the solid wood seats that folded down from the wall to let us through (i hit the one that wasnโ€™t folded back up) i realised where the seats were! ๐Ÿ˜€ย

As usual i couldnโ€™t see much at all (can you see anything?)โ€ฆWe couldnโ€™t do any of this without these excursions as the tour guides are very informative and passionate about sharing their knowledge on the history of the countries/islands and teach us lots about local people, culture and food! Weโ€™ve learned so much about all these places weโ€™ve visited and itโ€™s all thanks to these guys! ๐Ÿ˜€ย

I have a couple of videos which iโ€™ll post later and see if you can tell me what you see?!ย

5 Roatan Coral Reef

ย Gifty shop…

We then stopped off at a little gift shop which was a lovely little hut type place. After buying some bits and bobs Sarah found her fave plant/trees/bush type things on the island. They didnโ€™t sell these, and i donโ€™t think theyโ€™ll fit in our cases anyway! ๐Ÿคฃ ย

6 Roatan Sarah and the Spick Plant

ย Back in the dock…

Sarah and the Dream! ๐Ÿ˜

4 Roatan Sarah and the Thomson Dream

As we had a few hours left before we had to get back on board, Sarah and i thought weโ€™d have a look around the dock. The dock looked fantastic and was much better than most of the docks weโ€™ve visited.ย

First we found a clothes shop, yay!. Every place we visit we like to get a shirt, vest or top of some kind to keep and wear as a souvenir. We managed to get a top for Sarah and a vest for me, both saying Roatan Honduras on them! ๐Ÿ˜€ ย ย

But then…ย

Sarahโ€™s speech started to slur quiteย badlyโ€ฆI thought โ€œOh no, not here (i always talk to the diabetic hypo) itโ€™s a big dock and i canโ€™t see anywhere and there is no one aroundโ€. We then saw a hut type thingy and walked straight towards it. Yay it was a smoothie juice bar. Their english wasnโ€™t brilliant (although a million times better than my mexican/spanish) and we walked away with their local โ€œinsert funny name that iโ€™ve forgottenโ€ and quickly tried drinking it without getting brain freeze to go with the hypo. ๐Ÿ˜€

Now i had a reference point, we headed over to a bench which was against a wall (and in the sun for Sarah) but i knew how to get to the juice bar if things got worseโ€ฆIt did!

Sarah managed to do a blood test and it was very low. We had no idea how much sugar was in the smoothie so i quickly got up and grabbed another smoothie!

Now we just had to wait for the sugar to kick in before the ship left without us! It was a tense hour or so but Sarah managed to fight and beat the hypo into submission. To our surpriseโ€ฆWe still hadย another hour before we had to get back to the ship.

Sarah was feeling sick but still wanted to squeeze the day for all itโ€™s worth, she saidย โ€œHey, look over there, i think those people are coming from a beach or something?โ€ i saidย โ€œa beach? i didnโ€™t think docks had beaches etcโ€, i was glad to be so wrong!ย ๐Ÿคฃย

The beach…

We were just walking across a little bridge and i thoughtย โ€œthis would make a lovely photo, Sarah stand there and iโ€™ll try and get a photoโ€. When taking a shot like this, i stand with Sarah then keep Sarahโ€™s direction in mind as i concentrate on how many paces i need to take so that i get everything in the shot. When iโ€™m ready i ask Sarah to shout so i can get her trueย reference point and we know itโ€™s time for a few pictures. I first put my thumb in the air to say iโ€™m ready and Sarah can start smiling, then i takeย multiple images as i have no idea if Sarah is blinking, smiling or even looking at me, lol. Then i either put myย thumb up again or put my camera down and start walking back towards Sarah.

But just as i was lining up the shotโ€ฆA kind man from behind me asked if weโ€™d like a picture together?ย โ€œWow, yes pleaseโ€ i said as iย put my arm around my lovely wife Sarah. I donโ€™t get many of these shots so i really love it whenย some ย kind person asks us if weโ€™d like them to take a photo of us. I really cherish these moments.ย โค๏ธ

7 Roatan Sarah

8 Roatan Me and Sarah

ย A few short steps after and we were walking on sand and Sarah was walking into the sea! Wow itโ€™s really quiet here too, yay! ๐Ÿ˜€ ย

9 Roatan Sarah in the Sea

10 Roatan Sarah close up

ย If you havnโ€™t noticed already on our travelsโ€ฆWe โ€œThe Blind Sightseersโ€ have quite a few dramas, lol. So when we get moments like this we feel really blessed, itโ€™s like time stands still for us and we can just pause and think about how on earth we managed to get here. ๐Ÿ˜€ ย ย

11 Roatan Sarah in Hammock

ย Hey hang on a minute. I didnโ€™t mean pause for quite so long, lol! Sarah could have stayed there all day if time permitted and i donโ€™t blame her after the hypo sheโ€™s just had.

But now itโ€™s really time to get back to the ship. “Which way is it again?”

12 Roatan Dock

13 Roatan Dock Tree

ย After a couple more photos of the lovely dock it was back to the ship for our return coffee at (yes youโ€™ve guessed it) the coffee port.

You may not know but this was the easy days excursion as tomorrow we push the limits of what blindies can doโ€ฆWe go glass bottomed kayaking (first time for both of us) across the barrier reef in Costa Maya Mexico. ๐Ÿ˜จย

How empty, andย what trash does it appear!ย And yet men sell their souls to grasp it, and at last pass away from it and find it all a phantom. How unceasing is Satan in forever bringing it before our eyes, in some form or other!ย What is all theย pomp and wealth and rank of this poor fleeting world, in contrast with the gloryย that shall soon be revealed in all those who love His appearing?

“The spirit of the world is eating out the very heart and life of true godliness!”ย George Everard

Refined worldlinessย is the present snare of the Church of God!”ย Horatius Bonar

โ˜€๏ธ #30 The Blind Sightseers “Escape The Lockdown” With Distant Memories: “Trujillo, Honduras”๐Ÿ‡ญ๐Ÿ‡ณ(2016)

Honduras logo

Welcome to Trujillo:

Christopher Columbus landed in Trujillo on the 14th August 1502. During his fourth and final journeys to the Amercas. Since then they have been under the control of the Spanish, the Dutch, the English and even Pirates.

But now…

Sarah & i arrived on the shore, and after a coach trip with a friendly local tour guide telling us about this fantastic place(and the constant invasions by the pirates), we arrived at the beach resort! ๐Ÿ˜€ ย

โ€œWowโ€ i said as we stepped onto the sand and selected a couple of sun loungers with a table shelter thingy with a free cold bottle of lager welcoming us!

Sarah drinking lager on Trujillo beach

โ€œWeโ€™re going to enjoy thisโ€. This was the most relaxing excursion out of the 4 weโ€™d booked,

and thenโ€ฆ.

Sarah said โ€œYay, there is a trampoline in the seaโ€. I would have been more excited but my mind went straight to Sarahโ€™s Charcot feet (diabetic problem again), and how she was going to manage?! But i should have known Sarah would win me over by taking every precaution, and before i could stand up, Sarah was in the sea! ๐Ÿ˜€ ย  ย

Sarah on the bottom right of the photo is swimming towards the sea trampoline on the far left of the photo

I stood waiting and trying to calculate how long it would take Sarah to swim over and climb on before iโ€™d start taking photosโ€ฆthen i heard โ€œSTEVEโ€ i knew that was my cue to start taking photos and videos, thank you my lovely wife..

Sea Trampoline 2

Sarah really enjoyed trampolining in the sea as sheโ€™d never done anything like this before. But in the photo belowโ€ฆSarah looks very innocent , but iโ€™m sure she has just shoved the man off the left hand side!! lol. ๐Ÿคฃ ย ย

Sea Trampoline

It was quite cloudy, and even spotted with rain for a minute or two, but itโ€™s okโ€ฆit was only the fine stuff that soaks you through, so I took a couple of photos of the landscape…

Then Sarah gifted us with a Panorama! ย

Trujillo Beach Panorama 2

After a fantastic (inclusive) meal where Sarah & i had the nicest Plantain ever, we found a swimming pool with no-one in, and we relaxed for half an hour! ๐Ÿ™‚ย

IMG 3849

We couldnโ€™t believe how fast the time went and we reluctently headed back to the coach(well at least where we thought it was), but not before we stopped for one last photo at a beautiful fountain. ย

Sarah Trujillo Fountain

As Sarah & i were walking along the path, a Spanish speaking man with broken English held my arm and kept trying to tell us something. At first i thought heโ€™d spotted the Grim Reaper tattoo on my leg (had it done 20 years ago when i thought i was tough in my pre Christian days) and thought i was a pirate, so i was in trouble! ๐Ÿ™‚ But when my mind slowed down, we realised he was trying to say he was the driver and we were walking away from the coach. lol We thanked him profusely and followed him back to the coach.

Back on the ship…

After a lovely day on the beach, we headed to our usual viewing spot on deck 10.ย

Yay another Sarah Panorama…ย ย

As we will be on holiday for Sarahโ€™s birthday,ย i treated her to a hand manicure. ย Well…the whole holiday is a celebration of birthdayโ€™s(weโ€™ll be back home for mine), and seeing more of Godโ€™s creation,ย

Sarah getting nails done

Afterwards Sarah said โ€œWhy donโ€™t you get them to braid your hair as the wind’s been annoying you all day, and you wonโ€™t have to touch it for the rest of the holiday?! I was a little unsure about it, but after Sarah and the lady had decided to put 2 braids in, i went along with it.ย

Wow, Sarahโ€™s right again, i didnโ€™t have to touch it for the rest of the holiday, fantastic! ๐Ÿ˜€ ย ย

ย Well…the โ€œ2 Blindiesโ€ have managed to have an amazing day in Trujillo, and we canโ€™t thank you enough for joining us as we discover new ground. ๐Ÿคฃ

Discontent!

Grace logo

Discontent!

(Arthur Pink, “Comfort for Christians”)

“I have learned to beย contentย whatever the circumstances.” Philippians 4:11ย

Contentmentย is the being satisfied with the sovereign dispensations of God’s providence. It is the opposite of murmuring, which is the spirit of rebellion–theย clayย saying to theย Potter, “Why have You made me thus?” Instead of complaining at his lot–a contented man is thankful that his condition and circumstances are no worse than they are.ย

Discontent!ย Was there ever a time when there was so much discontent and restlessness in the world, as there is today? We very much doubt it. Despite our boasted progress, the vast increase of wealth, the time and money expended daily in pleasure–discontent is everywhere! No class is exempt. Everything is in a state of flux, and almost everybody is dissatisfied. Many even among God’s own people are affected with the evil spirit of this age.

Contentment!ย Is such a thing realizable, or is it nothing more than a beautiful ideal, a mere dream of the poet? Is it attainable on earth, or is it restricted to the inhabitants of Heaven? If feasible here and now–may it be retained, or are a few brief moments or hours of contentment the most that we may expect in this life?

The force of Paul’s statement will be better appreciated, if his condition and circumstances at the time he made it, are kept in mind. When the apostle wrote the words, he was not luxuriating in a special suite in the Emperor’s palace–but was in prison “in chains”. The contentment which Paul enjoyed, was not the result of congenial and comfortable surroundings. Most people suppose that contentment is impossible, unless one can have the desires of the carnal heart gratified. A prison is the last place to which they would go, if they were seeking a contented man. This much, then, is clear–contentment comes from within and not without; it must be sought from God, not in creature comforts.

Now, there is a vast difference between precept and practice, between the ideal and the realization. But in the case of Paul, contentment was an actual experience! It wasย something he hadย learned in the school of Christian experience.

“Keep your lives free from the love of money and beย contentย with what you have, because God has said–Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5

โ˜€๏ธ #29 The Blind Sightseers “Escape The Lockdown” With Distant Memories: “Yay…Caribbean Again!”๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ฒ

Jamaica Logo

ย Yay!!!! Were off to the Caribbean again!! (2016) ๐Ÿ˜€ ย

I canโ€™t believe weโ€™re getting another chance to see some of Godโ€™s glorious creation! We were so blessed with our last cruise โ€œTransatlantic Sunset Tourโ€ even though we had a roller coaster of a ride! ๐Ÿ™‚ย

We were up around 4:30am, packing the final items into our cases. I found out the hard way last year on how impossible it was to find my black suitcase on the carousel among hundreds of other black suitcases!! ๐Ÿ˜ฆ So this year iโ€™ve treated myself to a dark purple one. Letโ€™s see if this one is better to find?!

Kate, from the local taxis that Sarah uses for work, arrived and we set off for Gatwick. โ€œNow we can relaxโ€ i said โ€œAs itโ€™s too late to go back if weโ€™ve forgotten anythingโ€.ย

The Airport…

Kate was fantastic, and drove us right to the entrance and pointed us in the right direction โ€œJust keep walking that way and youโ€™ll be fineโ€. We checked in our cases and were given the fantastic airport assistance who guided us through customs and sat us in departures ready to catch the fun train.ย

The people at the desk said there was a 1 hour delayโ€ฆโ€Oh yes!!” Sarah & i said at the same time โ€œWe have time to go shopping and have a coffeeโ€. I think this was a new response for them as they looked a little bemused! ๐Ÿ™‚ย

After finding the same italian coffee place from last year(itโ€™s becoming another local), we found our way around a few shops and headed back to the pick up point. It wasnโ€™t long before the handheld thing they give me started flashing and vibrating which meant it is our turn to get on-board the train! ย

Me on-board the Fun Train at Gatwick irport

After our fun ride on the train, we boarded the plane and i even got a window seat. The 787 Dreamliner didnโ€™t disapoint as it gave it the beans down the runway!ย

A view from the airplane with the wing in view

During the 10ยฝ hour flight, Sarah watched about 5 films(well 10 minutes of each, as she said they were horiffic, and saw firsthand why we didnโ€™t have a TV lisence anymore). We enjoyed the in-flight meals though, and it made up for the poor entertainment.ย

As i canโ€™t even see who is sat next to me(although i know itโ€™s Sarah), i spent the time listening to the people around me. It helps me understand who is around, where they are, and i get to learn a little about the person by their words and characterโ€ฆas “what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heartโ€. ๐Ÿ™‚ย

Yay,we’re back in Jamaica!ย ๐Ÿ˜€ ย  ย

The airport assistance escorted us through customs and to the queue for the coach transfer to the ship. As soon as they realised we couldnโ€™t see, they took us and skipped straight passed the queue and onto the coach where we were shown to the 2 front seats! One advantage of being blind, lol.

Arriving at the ship, the coach driver said there were further delays and the queue for the ship check-in was long and itโ€™s seriously hot out there! But when we left the coach, we met the assistance and again, they led us passed the large queue straight to the check-in and onto the ship! I always feel a little guilty when this happens, but itโ€™s a fantastic service for us. ๐Ÿ™‚

Boarding the Thomson Dream again this year felt like we were coming home. It took us about a week to figure out where everything is, but this time we remembered and it made life a lot easier! ๐Ÿ™‚ย

The Emergency Drill…

We were now almost experts at the life jackets(well Sarah was) and we needed no help this time putting them on. It was really hot and humid out on deck for the drill, but i handled the heat much better this time. ๐Ÿ™‚ย

Finding our way back to the cabin with our life jackets on, we wanted to try and take a selfie to keep as a memory, as we probably wouldnโ€™t have chance if we ever needed to use them again. Itโ€™s really hard to take a selfie when you canโ€™t see the phone screen, but we took loads and managed to find one.

A selfy of Sarah and i wearing our orange life jackets

ย The Coffee Port…

After a full on day, Sarah & i were in need of a proper coffeeโ€ฆand guess what greeting we heard as we walked in??!! Yes it was Cecily! โ€œNo wayโ€ we both said โ€œItโ€™s so good to see you againโ€. Cecily then sat us down and said โ€œ2 espresso macchiatos?โ€โ€ฆ.No way, she remembered! ๐Ÿ™‚ This was really starting to feel like home.

We finished our coffees and headed back to our cabin. Our cases had arrived and we started unpacking as the ship set sail for Trujillo, Hondurasโ€ฆWow what a day! ๐Ÿ˜€ย

Day 2โ€ฆ..

Sea logo

We spent day 2 exploring and seeing if anything had changed since weโ€™d been gone. There were a few changes but nothing that tripped us up. Now it was time to check out the shore excursions for the next 4 islands!ย

Last year we didnt realise how quickly they sold out, so we got in early ย and booked an excursion for each of the 4 days, we were excited to have booked a few varied tours, but i was a little worried as weโ€™d booked Kayaking on one tour and River tubing on another. Can blind people really do this without crippling themselves?? ๐Ÿ˜จย

Either wayโ€ฆback to the Coffee Port to celebrate with a latte! ๐Ÿ™‚ย

God is too kind to punish the ungodly!

God is too kind to punish the ungodly!

(A.W. Tozer)

God’s justice stands forever against the unrepentant sinner in utter severity!

The vague and tenuous hope thatย God is too kind to punish the ungodlyย has becomeย a deadly opiate for the consciences of millions!ย It hushes their fears and allows them to practice all kinds of iniquity–while damnation draws every day nearer, and the command to repent goes unregarded. As responsible moral beings, we dare not so trifle with our eternal future!

“On the wicked He will rain fiery coals and burning sulfur; a scorching wind will be their lot!” Psalm 11:6ย

“Woe to the wicked! Disaster is upon them!” Isaiah 3:11ย

“They always heap up their sins to the limit. But wrath has come upon them to the utmost!” 1 Thessalonians 2:16ย

“They called to the mountains and the rocks: Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and fromย the wrath of the Lamb!ย For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand?” Revelation 6:16-17ย

“He, too, will drink of the wine of God’s fury, which has been poured full strength into the cup of His wrath. He will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb!” Revelation 14:10ย
