Looking Back For Future Motivation πŸ‘¨πŸ»β€πŸ¦―

Hi Fitblitzers…

Can you believe it’s been 7 years since i did my first fundraiser?! I thought this would be my first and last! I thought you’d like to look back with me on the day this blindman tackled the Tough Mudder…And survived…Just! Looking back on this post has given me some more motivation to keep smashing away at my current (and 7th) fundraising challenge…”Steve’s The BIG 50

Tough Mudder

Yay…..We did it!

Tough Mudder 5K – Saturday 13th October 2018…….Here Goes!

Adie, Me & Josie at the start with smoke covering the landscape

It was amazing to have my friend of nearly 30 years Adie Monk join our β€œHard As Nails” team. I thought we’d sit and catch up over a coffee….I didn’t have this in mind, lol!

Thanks John Atherton for taking another great photo. I can’t thank you and Sarah Atherton enough for giving us all these memories to cherish! πŸ˜€

After jogging a little, we came to this…….

β€œAt over 2 stories high, this is one of the most impressive obstacles in the UK. It is a giant A-shaped cargo net that you and your team will have to scramble up and over it. Working together will be the only way to overcome”.

Adie, me & Vini on the scramble net

This is where my new trainers just hooked perfectly around the rope and it felt completely solid. Also my blindness helped me out for once as i couldn’t see how high i was, and didn’t freeze like a couple of people i heard up there!

Then….When getting to the bottom i hear β€œYay, Whoop Whoop, Steve, Steve, Steve” and the sound of the plastic clapper hands were going crazy! What a feeling to know my lovely Wife Sarah and the Crazy Clappers team were cheering me all of the way, a great feeling! 😎

Me, Vini & Ashley cheering
Me, Vini & Ashley biggin’ up the cheering team

More jogging….Adie and the team were excellent at guiding me when jogging. Moving low hanging branches, telling me of tree roots and pulling me in the right direction. Adie said β€œI tried running with my eyes closed for a few steps…And there is no way i’d try any of this if i couldn’t see”.

Then…..

β€œWe’ve taken the 10β€² Hero Walls and tilted them right at you. By removing the ability for you to climb up and over this wall, you will have to form a strategy with your team, work together and boost each other to the other side”.

Vini on top of the wall and me trying get my leg up to get grip for my pull up!

Ouch, my leg hasn’t bent that far in about 20 years, lol!

More Jogging…..

β€œThis obstacle will have you crawling on the ground, pinned down by a giant cargo net. Working your way through this one will require lots of communication, teamwork and a strong will”.

18JA3225

You’ve guessed it…..More jogging and then….

β€œThe aim of the game is to get your team up and over this stack of super-sized hay bales. There is no right or wrong way so boost, shove or yank every last team member over the other side”.

Ashley helping Josie
⇧ Ashley helping Josie in a display of team work ⇧

 Next…….

β€œCan’t go through it, can’t go round it, you’ll have to go over it. Work together to boost and shimmy your teammates up and over this 10β€² Tough Mudder staple”.

Ashley at the top of the wall
Josie on the top of the wall with all of us cheering at the bottom
Vini helping Josie at the top of the wall

 Yep, more jogging…..

β€œTime to get swinging. Grab on, hold tight, feel the momentum and swing yourself from ring to ring like a regular Tarzan. This obstacle will test your strength, coordination and flow. Hang in there, you got this”.

Really didn’t do well on this one…And i can’t really blame my sight for lack of strength, lol!

Me on the rings

 After a little more jogging……

β€œOne of the most teamwork-inducing obstacles in the Tough Mudder portfolio, this obstacle is difficult to complete alone. You’re going to have to work together to form a human pyramid and, like its namesake, climb up and over your fellow Mudders on the way to the top”.

As Vini was making everything look so easy…..It was great to look at the photos afterwards and see it wasn’t all too easy!! πŸ’ͺ🏼

 AND NOW……MY NEMESIS!!!!

β€œA true Tough Mudder legend. Everest will challenge participants to run up a quarter pipe to reach the summit. Can’t do it alone? Not to worry – teammates are encouraged to hang over the top to pull their new friends up and over”.

I knew this was going to be more difficult for me as i needed to try it and get hands on before i could calculate what exactly i needed to do. Adie & Ashley explained the process….But i knew i just had to do it before i would really know….As running at a half pipe wall thingy when blind is going to be interesting!

Here Goes Nothing…..

Me running at Everest
Me and Everest

I took 1 step too many….and before i knew it the wall was in my face! Ooooo i was so close to reaching the ledge.

Me crashing into Everest

After hitting the wall i dropped down on both knees, and as the obstacle was made of hardish tyre rubber, it simply burned and ripped the skin off both knees….Wow that stings, lol. Time to regroup and recalculate!

18JA3410

β€œOk Steve, just do the same but with 1 step less”. Here i go again!

18JA3425

Yay….That’s better…..And once i had my talon trainers gripped to the ledge, i could just heave myself up. Wow i made it! πŸ’ͺ🏼

The team were fantastic and we all made it up. No-one was being left behind and you could just feel the team growing closer with each obstacle, it was amazing.

Now the final obstacle was overcome, it was time for a short jog to the finish line,Yay!

WOW WHAT A JOURNEY……

I can’t thank everyone enough….

With more than a week past….My knees are still scabbed and bruised…..But i’d like to give an Elephantine amount of thanks for everyone involved! πŸ’ͺ🏼

First, I’d like to give a stupendous amount of thanks to my lovely Wife Sarah….The amount of love and encouragement was/is mind-blowing!  And the β€œHard As Nails” team…..β€β€œmy muscles were fading but the sense of team work was overwhelming and no matter what…..We were getting over those obstacles”.πŸ’ͺ🏼

Second, i’d like to give a monumental amount of thanks to the β€œCrazy Clappers” team. β€œWhen i’d finished an obstacle and was about to collapse……I’d hear the Cheering Team and you’d put a big grin on my face to remind me it was alright and to keep going! 😎

Third, i’d like to give a gargantuan amount of thanks to all of you guys for your donations to β€œWorld Cancer Research Fund” and encouraging   me(& the team) every step of the way! β€œIntention isn’t Prevention……And you all have helped me spread the good  news with everyone so we can all be aware and empowered to start fighting the cancers we can prevent.”

Fourth, A colossal amount of thanks to John & Sarah Atherton(from the Epsom Camera Club) for giving up your Saturday and taking the amazing photos of us all….We’ve got fantastic memories of the day!

Wow…i hope you enjoyed reading and it’s MOTIVATED you in some way too?!

The necessity of fearing God

The necessity of fearing God

Charles Spurgeon, et al.Β
Proverbs 9:10, “TheΒ fear of the LordΒ is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”
Β
The fear of God is not a mere emotion–it is the soul’s rightful posture before the majesty of the Almighty. It is the awe that grips the heart, when the creature truly beholds the Creator. It is the reverent submission that arises when one recognizes that, “our God is in the heavens; He does whatever He pleases!” (Psalm 115:3). To fear God rightly, is not to cower as a slave before a tyrant–but to bow as a redeemed child before a holy Father who is infinitely glorious, righteous, and just.
Β
In Scripture, the fear of God is the fountainhead of all true knowledge (Proverbs 1:7). It anchors wisdom in humility, restrains sin, and cultivates holiness. When Moses drew near the burning bush, he was told, “Do not come near; take your sandals off your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground!” (Exodus 3:5). That moment captures the essence of godly fear–anΒ Β awareness of divine holiness that commands reverenceΒ and shapes obedience.
Β
This fear is not abolished in the New Covenant, but deepened. Through the gospel, believers encounter God not only as Creator, but as Redeemer. Jesus bore the wrath which we deserved, and in Him God’s justice and mercy meet. The cross reveals that our holy God cannot be trifled with–our sin costs the blood of Jesus! Yet it also shows that in Jesus, the God who should consume us, has chosen to cleanse and forgive us. “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful and so worship God acceptably withΒ reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire!” (Hebrews 12:28–29).
Β
To fear God is to live under the perpetual sense of His presence, which sanctifies ourΒ speech, ourΒ thoughts, and ourΒ actions. The fear of God purifies ourΒ hearts. It . . .
Β  Β slays pride,
Β  Β mortifies lust,
Β  Β silences worldly ambition,
Β  Β and fuels sincere worship.Β
Those who fear God revere His majesty and walk in righteousness, because they love His holiness more than their sin.
Β
It is this fear that droveΒ JosephΒ to flee from Potiphar’s wife; that sustainedΒ DanielΒ in Babylon; and that emboldened theΒ apostlesΒ to say, “We must obey God rather than men!” (Acts 5:29).
Β
To live without the fear of God, is to live as though God were small and man were great. But to live in the fear of God, is to see Him rightly:Β HeΒ is infinite majesty–andΒ weΒ are creatures of the dust. And yet this same majestic God stoops to call us His beloved children.
Β
Let us therefore cultivate a holy fear–aΒ reverent joyΒ that delights in God’s glory and obeys His Word. Such fear guards our souls, sanctifies our desires, and anchors us in wisdom. For only those who fear the Lord, truly know Him; and only those who truly know Him, can truly love Him.

1st lap Pond Photo…

Hi Fitblitzers.

It was nice to be back out on the trail after a lovely weekend of rest, reflection and filling up the tanks. Spending time with my lovely Wife Sarah is the most special and blessed thing for me! Once again I had no idea it was drizzling until I left the house, I even checked the weather app and it said there was zero chance of rain, lol! 🀣

It was pretty clear out on the trail as I think the drizzle kept most of them away. This is also good for me as I have to spend most of my concentration on not hitting anyone or any dogs etc…Another win win for me. πŸ’ͺ🏼

2nd lap pond photo…

I seriously didn’t want to do 2 laps this morning as I just wanted to come home early for my coffee and big hug…But I knew it’s ‘Motivational Monday’ and it wouldn’t be very motivational if I just gave up and put comfort first!

Hi Fitblitzers.

I’m so thankful that there is not much to report from today’s walk. The trail was nice and quiet, I didn’t hurt or injure myself and I actually enjoyed myself out there as I slowed down and gave thanks for everything! πŸ™ πŸ˜€

My lovely Wife Sarah welcomed me home with a lovely fresh black coffee, a big hug and that amazing sunshine smile that I can feel as it warms me up instantly! πŸ˜€

Speaking of Sarah…As you know we were up in Yorkshire for Alfie’s (Sarah’s youngest brother) wedding last weekend, and there was an opportunity to capture a photo of all six siblings in the same place together. The six siblings havn’t been together like this for over 20 years!! 😲

Today’s pond photo…

Hi Fitblitzers…training miles: 213.29

After a long weekend up in Yorkshire for Sarah’s youngest brother Alfie’s wedding, it felt like ages since I’d been out on the trail. My goal today was to try and get lots of photos so I could do a post (coming later) on the 12 donation motivation markers I’ve got so far! Sarah had an idea of doing one post with all 12 named markers so I can show you guys, keep updating it, have a reference to look back on and I can share it to my iPhone Home Screen and show every one when I get excited, lol! 🀣

The weather was nice and cloudy so no sun to burn my eyes out. This works great for me but it’s not so good for the photos. It was nice and quiet out on the trail, and I made it back with no injuries. πŸ˜€

My lovely Wife Sarah welcomed me with a big cuddle andmade me a hot coffee when I arrived home, and if I’m good, lol…She’ll also spoil me with a TUNA stack sandwich for lunch too! πŸ˜‹β€οΈ

Now focus…

Now let’s check if we’re in tune as it’s ‘Tuner Tuesday’. My D string (Deficit) is especially going well…I’ve lost 24 pounds so far, just 26 more to go. I could change the tuning to Drop D tuning, lol! The photo above is me and my lovely Wife Sarah at Alfie’s wedding on Saturday 4th October…And I was very happy as I could finally fit in my suit, yes it even buttoned up! 🀣

Hi Fitblitzers.

It was a 3 lapper this morning, and I was so thankful for the quiet trail and the weather that was cloudy and overcast…Perfect! πŸ˜€

I walked at an average pace of 3.60 miles per hour, and I arrived home tired but not in too bad shape. I can’t believe I’m saying this as I couldn’t even imagine a 3 lapper a few months ago! πŸ˜€

lap 2 pond photo…

The temperature was a little warmer today at 10˚C, so I could just wear my t-shirt and tracksuit bottoms with my INOV8 ultra pack and it was cool but manageable!

Oh and yes I had my chocolate hobnobs with me too! πŸ˜‹

1st lap pond photo…

Hi Fitblitzers…

First of all before I forget, I was asked by a friend when we were talking about my BIG 50 challenge…”So how many miles have you walked during your training so far?”. That was a question I didn’t know the answer to and didn’t think I’d be asked. So yesterday I added up all of the miles from every post on here since I started on 10th June 2024. And the grand total of miles (including today) is: 197.82 miles

I’m going to add that number of miles to the posts from now on so I can keep a record, I love stats, lol! 🀣 Back to the walk this morning and I (as usual) didn’t want to go out of my warm house and walk in the cold…But after a hot Sarah special espresso I headed out. As soon as I past the pond on lap 1 my legs instantly slowed a little and I thought “Oh no that’s how it is”. This meant that my legs were empty and they’re not walking any faster, so I had to switch to maintenance mode as I tried to drag them for another 5 miles in this state.

2nd lap pond photo…

On the 2nd lap I managed to walk into a rogue golden Retriever that nearly popped my left knee out (the dog was fine). As I walk on a sandy coloured trail these are the worst dogs as they are like the Predator in the original Predator movie where it’s pretty much invisible! 😨

My lovely Wife Sarah welcomed me with a big cuddle andmade me a hot coffee when I arrived home, and she’ll also spoil me with a TUNA stack sandwich for lunch too! πŸ˜‹β€οΈ

A woman to be remembered!

A graphic design featuring the word 'GRACE' in bold letters on a red background, accompanied by the text 'Truth in Love' in smaller font below.

A woman to be remembered!

J.C. RyleΒ
Luke 17:32, “
Remember Lot’s wife!
Β
Few words ever spoken by the Lord Jesus are more solemn or searching than this brief, three-word warning: “Remember Lot’s wife!” How striking it is that, out of all the women of Scripture, our Lord singled out one for us to remember–notΒ SarahΒ for her faith, notΒ RuthΒ for her devotion, notΒ HannahΒ for her prayer, notΒ MaryΒ for her love–but Lot’s wife, for her destruction! The Spirit of God has placed this warning before us as a perpetual beacon, lest we too be deceived by the bewitching world and perish.
Β
Yet all of this availed her nothing. She perished miserably becauseΒ her heart was never truly separated from the world. Outwardly she fled Sodom, but inwardly she lingered. Her body was on the path to safety, butΒ Β her affections were chained to the city of destruction. With one glance backward, she revealed the state of her soul. That look cost her eternal glory, and she was turned into a pillar of salt–a monument of God’s righteous judgment against hypocrisy and divided hearts.
Β
The tragedy of Lot’s wife stands as a warning to all who imagine that religious advantages, spiritual associations, or outward privileges can save. Many think that because they were raised in a Christian home and attend church, that they are safe. Lot’s wife shows us that one may be surrounded by light and truth, and yet perish in eternal darkness. She had seen angels, heard warnings, and been led by the hand of mercy–yet she never savingly believed.Β TheΒ heartΒ is what God is concerned with–and her heart was still in Sodom.
Β
Her backward look was not a small matter. It wasΒ the outward expression of inward rebellion. God had said, “Do not look back” (Genesis 19:17). In disobeying, she revealed where her treasure lay. She longed for the life she left behind–the comforts, the pleasures, the society of Sodom–and in doing so she despised the salvation of her soul. Jesus declares, “No man having put his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God” (Luke 9:62). The danger ofΒ worldlinessandΒ divided affectionΒ is real. How many professors of religion today claim to follow Jesus, yet their hearts cling to the world! They say they are bound for Heaven, but they look longingly at Sodom. They want to go to Heaven when they die, but they also want the soul-ruining world. The end of such double-mindedness is eternal destruction.
Β
Scripture is full of warnings against this very danger. John writes, “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him” (1 John 2:15). James tells us that “friendship with the world is hatred toward God” (James 4:4). The Savior Himself declared, “Remember Lot’s wife!”Β She was almost saved, yet lost forever! There are many in churches today who will come just that far–they will hear sermons and sing hymns, and yet their hearts remain with the world. Their empty profession will not hold up in the Day of Judgment.
Β
Beloved reader, let us examine our hearts. Are we secretly longing for the very things that God calls us to forsake? Are we following Christ with a whole heart, or are we still glancing backward toward Sodom? When Jesus calls us to take up our cross, we must not look back to our Sodom. Salvation demands the forsaking ofΒ sin, and the forsaking of theΒ world. It demands a heart fixed on Christ. “The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever” (1 John 2:17).
Β
The warning of Lot’s wife is not written to terrify the believer, but to search the heart of the hypocrite and to awaken the careless professor. If you are resting in your church attendance, your upbringing, your knowledge–then remember Lot’s wife. If you are unwilling to forsake the world and to follow Christ–then remember Lot’s wife. If you are almost persuaded, almost a Christian, almost saved–remember Lot’s wife.Β If you are but almost saved–then you will be altogether damned!
Β
“Remember Lot’s wife!” Let us take warning. Let us not dally with sin, linger in compromise, or toy with the world. Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus (Hebrews 12:1-2). For the soul that looks to Him in faith shall never be cast away, but the soul that loves the world will be lost forever.

1st lap Pond Photo…

Hi Fitblitzers.

Today is the start of my 2 lap minimum each day to try and build up more strength and stamina…I’m really going to miss the 1 lapper. After managing 12.12 miles last Thursday(4 laps) it’s time to level up ready for the October 5 lapper which I’m really not looking forwards to! 😨

The trail had lots of runners, cyclists and dog walkers and I managed to miss all of them, lol. I even managed to overtake some walkers too…Yay this blindman is getting faster! πŸ˜€

2nd lap pond photo…

This photo of the pond through the trees is right next to the path. The photo doesn’t show how bright and blinding it is as I can’t see the trail and try really hard not to walk straight into the pond…Now that would surprise me, and of course I’d try and get you photos from the bottom of the pond, lol! 🀣

I averaged a 3.56 mph pace over 1 hour 41 minutes which is quick for me, and to arrive home without any damage or dramas at that speed is fantastic!

more motivation…😲

After last Thursdays 4 laps (12.12 miles) I achieved the ‘September Challenge’ badge. I don’t think I noticed it until the following day as I was too tired from my trail walk! 🀣

Lap 1 Pond Photo…

Hi Fitblitzers.

yeah i’m a 4 lapper!!! πŸ’ͺ🏼

Wow, if that was the fundraising trail walk challenge…I’d be happy that I finished it! BUT this was only 4 laps plus a pitstop and the challenge is 11 laps and 3 pitstops! 😨 After how I felt after today’s walk…That’s too much especially at the moment…But I’m getting stronger week by week. πŸ™

It was a cold 7˚C again and as I was going to be out for around 3.5 hours, I thought I’d leave my tracksuit bottoms at home, as I’d soon get too warm as I stomp around the trail…I was wrong, my legs were ice blocks for about 2 laps! 🀣

lap 2 pond photo…

As I was cold I think I tried to walk so fast I’d out pace the cold and my legs would warm up nicely…They didn’t.

At least there was some good news. As I’d burn about 1200 calories on this walk I was wearing my trusty INOV8 ultra pack which not only had 2 x 500ml of zero calorie orange water…But 8 chocolate hobnobs (the best biscuit in the world). They are 93 calories each and they should start being absorbed around 30 minutes after that amazing taste! πŸ˜‹

lap 3 pond photo…

It was overcast mostly for the first 2 laps but then the blazing low hanging sun come out to play (ruin my walk). My pace slowed lots as I tried to stagger around like an extra in a zombie movie.

I only had to do 3 laps before I leave the trail and walk to my pitstop (home). It’s only 0.4 miles to and another 0.4 miles back so quite a quick pitstop. I managed to not collapse (good start), keep moving whilst eating half a sandwich and try to get back out within 10 minutes max. When my 50Km walk starts I have to try and have 3 pitstops whilst doing 11 laps, so today was the first time to see if I sieze up?!

lap 4 pond photo…

My legs were a little tight after destroying my leg stabiliser muscles on the trail, then slowing down in the pitstop. But after about a mile they were broken but still moving! I was simply so thankful and so happy that I’d managed my first pitstop and was back out stomping out the miles!

I was overwhelmed with joy as I arrived home and stopped my workout which was exactly 12.12 miles, that made me smile for some reason. It really felt like I was walking on prayers from you guys! I really had nothing left and was laughing to myself that my legs were still going right to the end when I wanted to just give up! πŸ™ πŸ˜€

Everyone needs a little kindness!

Don FortnerΒ
1 Corinthians 13:4, “Love isΒ kind

Often, the best thing one man can give another is kindness. Oh, how sweet it is to hear a kind word, when your heart is breaking! How delightful it is to see a kind smile, when you have seen many growling faces! How pleasant it is to feel the kind embrace of a friend, when you have felt the betrayal of those you thought were your friends! Kindness is always right. Kindness is always in season. It is never wrong to be kind, but always good.

Kindness must have for itsΒ object: one who is weak, poor, fallen, outcast, down-trodden, or needy.

To be “kind” is to be useful, generous, sympathetic, and tender.

Kindness accommodates itself to the needs of its objects.
If a man offends–kindness forgives him.
If a person is fallen–kindness picks him up.
If one is hungry–kindness feeds him.
If a brother is lonely–kindness visits him.
If a sister is downcast–kindness encourages her.
If one is weak–kindness offers strength.
If one is needy–kindness helps.
If a person is afflicted, in trouble and hurting–kindness is tender-hearted.

Sometimes kindness is a word of appreciation, encouragement, or compliment. Sometimes it is a visit, a gift, or an expression of love.Β Everyone needs a little kindness. And those who love one another, are kind to one another. They overlook and find excuses for one another’s faults and failings. They speak well to one another, and about one another.

Kindness is never wrong.

God, give me grace to be kind to sinners like myself.

Today’s pond photo…

Hi Fitblitzers…

Wow summer has gone and it was a biting 7˚C this morning. As I’ve lost 22 pounds (1 stone 8lbs) so far in training for the 50K walk…I put on my puffer coat as it was similar to all of the fat I’ve lost as I’m not as insulated now, lol! 🀣

Handbrake turn marker…

I love this part of the trail, as I walk downhill (left of the photo) then blast around the turn and start the three quarter mile uphill part of the trail (right of the photo) and head back towards home. It’s called ‘Handbrake Turn’ as it would be perfect for a rally car to do a handbrake turn here…Oh and it’s also waiting for a kind donation so it can be named with the one who kindly sponsors this challenge. 🧑

My lovely Wife Sarah made me a hot coffee when I arrived home, and she’ll also spoil me with a TUNA stack sandwich for lunch too! πŸ˜‹

Oh and speaking of my lovely Wife Sarah…Let’s take a seat on her ‘Donation Motivation Marker’ – “Sarah’s Sunshine Bench” and let’s check if we’re in tune as it’s ‘Tuner Tuesday’. Lap 1 Pond Photo…

Hi Fitblitzers.

Yay, I managed another 2 laps (6 miles) this morning, and I wasn’t in a total heap when I returned. I must be getting a bit stronger (and lighter) as I have to start doing 2 laps each day and not wimp out for a 1 lapper! 🀣

As this was my last proper trail pounding walk of the week, I do 4 trail walks then have 3 days off to recover, spend time with my lovely Wife Sarah, and also get supplies ready for the next week on the trail! My legs just wanted to give up on lap 2, I think they’re just empty from the last 3 days walk! 🀣

lap 2 pond photo…

I love walking past the pond for the second time, as it means I can get a different angle. What is also fantastic is that all of your markers are called out for the second time, so I get to pray and give thanks for you all over again! πŸ™ πŸ˜€

TheΒ exclusivityΒ of the Gospel

A graphic design featuring the word 'GRACE' in bold letters on a red background, accompanied by the text 'Truth in Love' in smaller font below.

The exclusivity of the Gospel

Charles Spurgeon, et al.Β
In an age of religious pluralism and tolerance of error, the biblical teaching onΒ the exclusivity of the gospelΒ is essential, even though most people find it to be offensive.

Scripture leaves no room for ambiguity: there isΒ only one way of salvation. There are notΒ manyΒ paths to God, nor are thereΒ multiple gospelsΒ tailored to different groups. There is but one Savior, one gospel, and one way to eternal life. The way to Heaven is not left to our choice, but is revealed by God. And that way is Christ alone.

The apostle Paul, under divine inspiration, wrote with utmost clarity: “I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel–which is reallyΒ no gospelΒ at all!” He immediately pronounced aΒ curseΒ upon anyone who preached a gospel contrary to theΒ oneΒ he had delivered (Galatians 1:6-8). There is no allowance for alternative methods of salvation. There is no second gospel for Jews, Muslims, sincere religious people, moralists, the heathen or the young. The gospel is singular, exclusive, and absolute.

Jesus Himself declared the narrowness of the way when He said, “I amΒ theΒ way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me!” (John 14:6). He did not say He was A way, but THEΒ way. Faith in Jesus and His sin-atoning death is not one option among many, but the only gospel by which sinners can be reconciled to God. Peter echoed this exclusive claim when he boldly proclaimed, “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under Heaven given to men by which we must be saved!” (Acts 4:12).

This one way of salvation is byΒ graceΒ alone, throughΒ faithΒ alone, inΒ ChristΒ alone. “For it is byΒ graceΒ you have been saved, throughΒ faith–and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God–not by works, so that no one can boast!” (Ephesians 2:8-9).

To deny theΒ exclusivityΒ of the gospel, is to deny the veryΒ heartΒ of the gospel. To suggest that sincere people in other religions can be saved apart from Jesus, is to make His sin-atoning death unnecessary, and His words untrue. It is a rejection of the only remedy for sin that God has provided.

There are not fifty ways to God–there is only one. The road is narrow, and it is marked with blood. Let us then stand firm, unashamed, and uncompromising in proclaiming the one true gospel–the only gospel that saves.

“I am not ashamed ofΒ theΒ gospel, because it is the power of God forΒ the salvation of everyone who believes!”Β Romans 1:16

1st Lap pond photo…

Hi Fitblitzers…

Yay I managed another 3 laps this morning! In August I needed to do a 3 lapper, and for September I need to do a 4 lapper…But the 3 laps today is a great step towards the 4 lapper I need to do in the next couple of weeks before the end of the month! πŸ˜€

My INOV8 ultra pack was nicely loaded up with 2 x 500ml of orange flavoured water and a few chocolate hob nobs. I always walk in the morning.and in a fasted state, as it uses more of my ample fat stores, so I can go 2 laps without eating…Then in comes the best biscuits in the world! πŸ˜‹

2nd lap pond photo…

I decided to take a photo of the pond on each lap, and maybe you can see the sun slowly rising, or if the pictures are different. πŸ˜€

And yes…The fallen tree was still there too. But as I knew where it was and it was easy to stop over, I could manage it and knew when it was coming…And I didn’t go flying on my face which was a real bonus!

3rd lap pond photo…

Yay I got to stop at the pond 3 times today…I think I’m going to donate to my challenge as I really want that pond marker! I have also timed when I have my chocolate hob nobs, and as I was at the pond for the 3rd time, it meant I could have my 2nd hob nob! πŸ˜‹

Today’s Pond Photo…

Hi Fitblitzers.

The gusty winds were blowing loudly against the windows this morning, and the weather app had given out weather warnings for strong winds…But thatj’s not very ‘MOTIVATIONAL’ is it?! I thought the trees on the trail don’t need much wind to blow them over, but I’ve got a challenge to prepare for so I don’t have time for excuses, lol! 🀣

As it was very windy today I decided to leave the shorts at home and put on my cosy tracksuit bottoms. I also put on my cosy yellow wind proof jacket too. I was very warm and cosy out there, totally wind proof…I just had to walk slow as I was a little too warm, but well worth it! πŸ˜€

I was quite enjoying being blown around whilst staying wind proof and warm, it was a nice feeling. It was also nice that there were no fallen trees, especially as the sun was blazing so it was extremely difficult to see the trail at all. I was about three quarters around the lap when…πŸ€”

the fallen tree…😨

Thankfully as I was so warm I couldn’t walk very fast at all, so I managed to stop instantly when my foot connected with the tree. I quickly felt it with my foot and stepped over it…Yay I didn’t have to try and find another way out! πŸ’ͺ🏼

more motivation…😲

Over the weekend I was sent an email to say I’d unlocked the Β£250 badge, as my last donation to ‘Steve’s BIG 50’ challenge made my total fly past the Β£250 mark…Now that MOTIVATES ME! 😲 πŸ’ͺ🏼

Hi Fitblitzers.

Today I headed out on my last FitBlitz walk of the week, and I was certainly thankful for this beautiful place. I walked nice and slow actually enjoying (instead of racing) around the trail.

Hi Fitblitzers…

Wow, I should’ve called it ‘The Immobilising Tuesday’ as the sun was so bright I kept stopping lots of times. It’s not like just not being able to see where you’re going…It’s much worse but I don’t have a way of explaining how bad it is.

On the plus side, I had my INOV8 ultra pack pro with plenty of water so I could sip away whilst I was immobilised…And the super bright sun makes the photos look better, lol! 🀣

‘Christine’s Calm Meadow Rise’ Marker

I also had the idea of taking all of the photos (except the pond photo) where I’d named the markers on my trail. I’ll keep stopping as the days, weeks and months roll on at your named markers and takes photos on and around the area so you can see how beautiful the place is! πŸ˜€

‘Paul’s Powersurge’ Marker

After yesterday’s 2 laps I was the best I’d ever felt and I thought I was starting to get better as I improved…But today’s 2 laps were the opposite, but it wasn’t my body but my mind that was smashed! Simply way too much concentration, glare and struggling that my brains gave up first. Disappointing as I’m trying to get my body in shape to attempt the 50km, I don’t want my brains to let me down! πŸ™ πŸ˜€

Hi Fitblitzers.

No matter what I do, when I walk 2 laps around the trail from door to door…I always hit 5.99 miles and not 6.00 miles! 🀣 Well at least my route and Apple Watch are accurate! πŸ’ͺ🏼

I’ve had plenty of MOTIVATION this weekend ready for today. On Friday I’d lost exactly 2 stone (28 pounds) in total in around 3.5 months…And 18 pounds in total on my BIG 50 challenge, I only had the challenge idea after I already started losing some weight, lol. This meant that I could finally use the gift Sarah had bought me a year ago but it didn’t fit…So today was the first day I wore my INOV8 Ultra Pack Pro 2in1 (5ltr or 12ltr thanks to it’s removable 7ltr pack). It also has 2x 500ml soft flasks which is perfect for my training as I’m now doing a minimum of 2 laps a day! πŸ’ͺ🏼 πŸ˜€

I managed 2 laps today which meant 4 photos of my trail, and when I arrived home after sipping my water, I’d felt better (and didn’t collapse)…A BIG thanks to my lovely Wife Sarah for her amazing gift! πŸ˜€

And the best thing about walking 2 laps is that I get to take a different photo of the pond. I’m writing another MOTIVATION post at the moment to tell you about a massive dose of MOTIVATION I received this weekend too…I know I’m spoilt beyond belief! 😲

Sarah’s Spiced Symphony: Tamil Black Pepper Chicken πŸ˜‹

Hi fitblitzers…

When Sarah hits the kitchen, it’s not dinner time…It’s showtime. And this time, she turned out a plate so bold it felt like a headliner at Wembley.

Front and centre: chicken breasts. Not just any chicken breasts, but juicy, golden seared beauties marinated in that black pepper paste with coconut, belting out heat and aroma like a Marshall stack cranked to eleven. Every bite had punch, swagger, and enough kick to make you sit up and take notice.

Then came the pilau rice, rich and spiced with that deep Tamil-style stock, laying down the rhythm section like a phat bassline, keeping the whole dish grooving.

But Sarah doesn’t stop at rhythm, oh no. She brings in solos. Caramelised onions swirled through the rice like molten guitar licks, then…Out of nowhere, she threw down fried mushrooms and lettuce, sizzling away like pyrotechnics on stage. Totally unexpected. Totally EPIC. Totally Sarah!

And just when you think the flavour’s going to take your head clean off, in comes the turmeric yoghurt seasoning…Creamy, fragrant, and cooling, like the encore that leaves you wanting more.

The result? A dish that didn’t just feed the body…It set the soul on fire. Epic Sarah cooking isn’t just about food…It’s about creating an experience. This Tamil Black Pepper Chicken wasn’t just tasty. It was a culinary anthem. 🎢πŸ”₯🍴

They’ll be talking about this meal for centuries. The night Sarah took the humble chicken breast and forged it into a weapon of pure flavour will go down in history as one of the great culinary creations ever made! πŸ˜‹

The Beauty of Jesus

A graphic design featuring the word 'GRACE' in bold letters on a red background, accompanied by the text 'Truth in Love' in smaller font below.

The Beauty of Jesus

Charles Spurgeon, et al.

Song of Solomon 5:16, “Yes, He is altogether lovely! This is my Beloved, and this is my Friend!”

The soul that has been awakened by grace, drawn by the Spirit, and brought to behold the Lord Jesus through the eyes of faith, cannot help but echo this exclamation: “Yes, He is altogether lovely!” In . . .
every aspect of His person,
every office He holds,
every work He performs,
and every word He speaks
–Jesus is infinite in loveliness!
The redeemed heart, taught by the Spirit, finds no flaw in Him, and no rival to Him.

Consider the beauty of His PERSON. He is fully God and fully man–God manifest in the flesh. In Him, all the fullness of Deity dwells bodily. He is the brightness of the Father’s glory, the exact representation of His being. And yet, He is tender and lowly, gentle and accessible. The glory of His majesty does not drive sinners away–it draws them near. The same hand that upholds the universe, was stretched out to touch lepers and lift fallen sinners.

His CHARACTER is equally lovely. His holiness is not austere, but beautiful. His righteousness is not harsh, but winsome. He was full of grace and truth–never compromising either. In Him, mercy and justice meet. He never turned away the penitent, never coddled the proud, never failed to glorify His Father.
His every motive was pure,
His every word was true,
His every act was love.

The beauty of Jesus shines most in His sin-atoning sacrifice. He gave Himself for us. It was the grandest display of self-sacrificing love the world has ever seen! At the cross, we behold the perfection of His grace and justice meeting in breathtaking harmony. There is no beauty like the beauty of a bleeding Savior! None so lovely–as He who was scorned, despised, and crucified for us. Would you know the sweetness of Christ? Come near to Him–look into His wounds, sit beneath His cross, and ponder His dying love for you!

The beauty of His WORK is beyond comparison. Who else but the Son of God would willingly humble Himself to the death of the cross? Who else could bear the full weight of God’s wrath, and yet cry, “It is finished!” He loved His people to the uttermost. He purchased them with His own blood. He rose in triumph, intercedes with compassion, and will one day return in glory!

His beauty never fades. Unlike the passing charm of earthly things–Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. The more He is known, the more He is loved. The more He is seen, the more He is desired. The more He is worshiped, the more the soul cries, “Show me more of Jesus!”

The longer we walk with Jesus, the more His beauty unfolds–dazzling us anew with His mercy, wisdom, and power. Beloved, take time today to meditate on the matchless beauty of Jesus. Look into His heart of love, His hand of power, His crown of glory. In each of these, He is altogether lovely!

Let us then join the voice of the bride in Song of Solomon: “This is my Beloved, and this is my Friend!” Not merely a doctrine, not merely a Savior–but our Beloved. The One our souls love, the One who has loved us with an everlasting love. Let us gaze upon Him with adoring hearts, worship Him with reverent love, and long for that day when we shall see Him as He is, and be with Him forever!

“Lord Jesus, You are the altogether lovely One.
Captivate my heart with Your beauty.
Help me to . . .
know You more clearly,
love You more deeply,
and follow You more closely. Amen.”

Tree Trapped Tuner Tuesday: iWalk 1.46 miles πŸ‘¨πŸ»β€πŸ¦―

Hi Fitblitzers…

Today’s walk was supposed to be a big win, armed with my new VoiceVista navigation app, I hit the trail with one mission in mind: plant more ‘Donation Motivation Markers’ (9 donations so far! 😲 ), and make FitBlitz history with around 50. markers in total around the trail.

But the trail had other ideas…

There I was, moving at full speed, HOKA Speedgoats pounding the trail…When…WHAM! I walked straight into a fallen tree (see photo above). Being registered blind, by the time you feel the branches hit the front of you…It’s time for an emergency stop! But this wasn’t just any branch…This thing was a full-on fortress. Thankfully I stopped in time instead of flying into it and falling face first all over it in a heap! 😨

I snapped a photo and sent it to Sarah. Her reply?
β€œARE YOU OK? It’s covering the whole trail, you’re not getting around that”.

Trail: 1. Steve: 0.

So yeah, I had to turn back and head home. Disappointed? You bet. But that’s the beauty of the FitBlitz adventure…Not every battle is won on the day. Sometimes the trail fights back. Sometimes you get knocked down…But don’t stay down! πŸ’ͺ🏼

I’m hoping the local nature reserve rangers swoop in and clear the beast out of the way, so by tomorrow it’ll be back to a normal walk, ready for me to drop those markers where they belong.

Now focus…

Let’s check if we’re in tune as it’s ‘Tuner Tuesday’. My D string (Deficit) is going well…I’ve lost 16 pounds so far, just 34 more to go! πŸ’ͺ🏼

Motivational Monday: iWalk 3.41 miles & New App! πŸ‘¨πŸ»β€πŸ¦―

Today’s Pond Photo…

Hi Fitblitzers.

I really don’t like leaving my lovely Wife Sarah to head out on the trail…But after I made her a coffee (inferior to her amazing ones) I headed out on a mission.

The Soundscape app I always go on about, as it’s what gets me around the trail and sets the markers (I couldn’t walk on the trail without it)…Has been replaced. I’ve spent days setting up routes, markers and useful obstacles, and now I have to start all over again! 😲

Thankfully the new (and improved app) is current and being updated with new features all of the time, unlike the Soundscape app that had just been left with little features etc.

So today had to start completely from scratch, and shuffle around the lap setting all of the markers, donation Motivation Markers, Obstacles and benches I could remember…It’ll take me the rest of this week to set it up properly and set custom settings…But it’ll be worth it! πŸ’ͺ🏼 πŸ˜€ Here’s a little more about it for any who are interested, lol! 🀣

VoiceVista iphone app…?

VoiceVista is an iOS navigation app for people who are blind or visually impaired, offering real-time audio cues to help them navigate their surroundings by providing information about locations, points of interest, and routes. It was designed by Dr. Wu and is a successor to Microsoft’s Soundscape app, allowing users to create custom “markers” (saved locations) and set up audio beacons to guide them back to those points or along specific routes.

What is VoiceVista?
Audio-based Navigation:
VoiceVista provides audio guidance and information to help blind and visually impaired users build a mental map of their environment and navigate unfamiliar places.

Feature-rich:
It offers turn-by-turn navigation with integration to Google and Apple maps, announces intersections, and can even announce street numbers.

Customizable:
Users can control the level of detail they receive, from general information about surroundings to specific points of interest like bus stops or shops.

Location-based Technology:
It uses iOS advanced 3D audio and precise location services to provide directional audio cues through headphones, indicating when a location is to the user’s right or left.

What are markers?
Saved Locations:
A marker in VoiceVista is a saved, or “pinned,” location that the user creates to mark important places in their environment.

Navigation Tools:
Users can set up an audible “beacon” on a marker to guide them to that location.
Purpose:
Markers can represent anything from a friend’s house entrance to an obstacle or a familiar building entrance, acting as a reference point for safer navigation.

Creation:
A marker can be added by saving the user’s current location, searching for a specific address, or by using an “Auto Marker” to mark a recorded segment of time.

Sarah’s Super Saturday Sandwich 😲 β€οΈ

Hi fitblitzers…

There are sandwiches, and then there are monuments of flavour. Today, I bring you the latter, a creation so mighty, so vibrant, so unapologetically stuffed to the rafters, that I’ve officially christened it: Sarah’s Super Saturday Sandwich.

At its foundation lies the humble but heroic Hovis Wholemeal Seven Seed bread. Forget your flimsy supermarket slices, this is bread with backbone. Each bite brings the crunch of sunflower, flax, and poppy whispering tales of wholesome power while standing tall under the weight of everything it holds.

Between these sturdy slabs of seeded armour sits a layer of creamy (fat free) cottage cheese, spreading smooth comfort across the battlefield of flavours. Then comes the ham, a salty, savoury punch that demands attention.

But this is no one-note wonder. Sarah has engineered a rainbow riot of freshness:

  • Juicy tomato slicesΒ that burst like little grenades of summer.
  • Cool cucumber, slicing through the richness like a refreshing breeze.
  • Mixed salad leaves, adding crunch, colour and a leafy swagger.
  • Shredded carrots, sweet and earthy, sneaking in extra crunch with every bite.

And just when you thought it couldn’t get more dramatic…Enter the beetroot. Deep crimson, unapologetic and staining everything it touches like a culinary rebel. It doesn’t just sit there quietly, it shouts its presence, painting the cottage cheese in wild streaks of magenta and giving this sandwich the swagger of a rock star mid-guitar solo.

What you’re left with is not just food…It’s a stacked masterpiece, a sandwich so mighty it has to be cut in half just to reveal its inner glory. Each cross-section looks like a geological dig of flavour: strata of pinks, reds, oranges, and greens pressed together by the seed-studded cliffs of bread.

The Super Sarah Snack is proof that sometimes, the greatest meals aren’t complicated. They’re just layered with love, packed with goodness and bold enough to take risks.

So here’s to Sarah, the culinary architect behind this stacked skyscraper of taste…I think you’ll agree: this isn’t just a snack. It’s a statement. 😲 πŸ˜‹ ❀️

The Preciousness of Jesus!

A graphic design featuring the word 'GRACE' in bold letters on a red background, accompanied by the text 'Truth in Love' in smaller font below.

The Preciousness of Jesus!

Wilhelmus Γ  Brakel,
1 Peter 2:7, “To you who believe, He is precious!”

To the regenerate soul, Jesus Christ is the chief delight and treasure of the heart.

The world may see no beauty in Him, but to the one born of God, Jesus is altogether lovely and worthy of all of our love, honor, and adoration.

His preciousness lies first inΒ His Person. In Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily, and yet He took upon Himself true humanity. What mystery, that He who upholds all things by the word of His power, also humbled Himself to become obedient to death–even death on a cross! Who can fathom such condescension? Who is like this glorious Mediator, who is both the Son ofΒ GodΒ and the Son ofΒ Man?

Christ is also precious inΒ His offices.

As Prophet, He reveals the Father’s will, teaching us the way of salvation with divine authority and tenderness.

As Priest, He offered Himself as a sacrifice for our sins, and ever lives to intercede for us.

As King, He rules over us with perfect righteousness and protects us from all our enemies. Each office meets our deepest need, and each one displays His surpassing worth.

Further, He is precious in His benefits. Who but Jesus can give . . .
  rest to the weary,
    peace to the troubled,
      righteousness to the guilty,
        and life to the dead?

His blood cleanses from all sin.

His Spirit renews the heart.

His intercession secures both our perseverance and preservation.

His promises are sure and sweet.

And His presence is the joy of the believer’s soul.

All the infinite treasures of grace are found in Him!

The more we grow in grace, the more Christ becomes our all. The soul cannot but long for Him, be satisfied with Him, and rejoice in Him above all things! This longing is not merely sentimental; it flows from a spiritual apprehension of His beauty through the Word and by the Spirit. This is the cry of every true Christian: “Whom have I in Heaven but You? And earth has nothing I desire besides You!” Psalm 73:25

Let us then prize Christ above all. Let us . . .
   seek
 Him diligently,
    love Him fervently,
      and trust Him implicitly.

Nothing but Jesus can truly satisfy the soul of men. In life and death, time and eternity–Jesus alone is the soul’s eternal portion and inheritance. O believer, cling to Him as your only treasure–for He is infinitely precious.

“Lord Jesus, open my heart more fully to see Your surpassing worth. Let the world grow dim, and let Your glory shine brighter in my heart. May I count all things loss for the sake of knowing You, and may my soul be ever ravished with Your loveliness. You are altogether precious. Amen.”

Faith, Fitness, Focus Friday: Rest & Reflect

Hi Fitblitzers…

Fridays are my chance to take a step back, not to push harder, but to breathe, reflect and recognise what God has already carried me through this week.

This Week in Miles

  • Monday:Β 3.40 miles
  • Tuesday:Β 3.41 miles
  • Wednesday:Β 3.39 miles
  • Thursday:Β 3.39 miles
    Total:Β 13.59 miles

Not a record-breaking week, but a faithful one…Each walk reminding me that consistency matters more than speed. Some days the miles felt smooth, others were harder, but together they’ve built a rhythm that’s worth pausing to give thanks for.

Encouragements Along the Way

  • Drill Sergeant Bruce: His fiery β€œno excuses” motivation keeps echoing in my head when my legs drag. But even he knows (somewhere deep down under that war face!) that rest and recovery are just as vital as the push.
  • Sarah’s Strength: While I’ve been out on the trail, Sarah has been fighting her own battle at homeβ€”recovering from her eye operation. Pain, discomfort, and that relentless itch have tested her all week. Yet she carries herself with such faith and patience. Honestly, she inspires me far more than any miles I’ve walked. ❀️
  • And your comments of encouragement…What more can I say?! πŸ™Β

What This Week Reminds Me

  • Progress doesn’t always roar, sometimes it whispers in steady, faithful steps.
  • Motivation is helpful, but true strength is found in humility and patience.
  • Rest is not weakness, it’s part of the design.

Encouragement…

The trail teaches me that strength is not only found in motion but in stillness, not only in pressing forward but in waiting well. Both the walk and the pause are part of the journey.

Motivation…

“The strongest journeys are not measured in miles walked, but in the humility to pause, the courage to continue and the faith to be thankful in it all“.

Scripture snack…

β€œHe gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” – Isaiah 40:29

So this week, I give thanks…For the miles walked, for Bruce’s bark that keeps me laughing, for Sarah’s love, support and quiet endurance, for all of you out there sending me motivation and most of all for the God who meets us in both movement and rest.

Let’s β€˜FitBlitz’ 2025 together! πŸ’ͺ🏼

Thankful Thursday: iWalk 3.39 miles πŸ˜²πŸ‘¨πŸ»β€πŸ¦―

Today’s Pond Photo…

Hi Fitblitzers.

Well I’m certainly thankful that I’ve done all 4 trail walks this week, and had no dramas, accidents or collapsing! I’m also thankful for all of the motivation from my lovely Wife Sarah (even after her surgery), Drill Sergent Bruce and of course all of you guys…It’s humbling to say the least that I have so much support, love and encouragement! ❀️

As I’ve walked around only 1 lap per day this week, I’ve been carefully listening out to see where I can place lots of new ‘Donation Motivation Markers’. I’m so thankful that I’ve actually made it out this week (even though I didn’t want to), but I needed to stomp and put my legs in to action, as I don’t want them getting lazy, lol.

As you know my lovely Wife Sarah is in recovery mode after her surgery, so this meant she wasn’t working in the London office…Which also means there will be no ‘Steve’s Smelly French Toast’ today…Sorry Dayle but no EPIC descriptions, lol! 🀣

Scripture snack…

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Give thanks…πŸ™

How might you pause to give thanks today? Maybe it’s lifting a prayer, holding onto a Bible verse that leaps off the page (or screen), letting a worship song wash over you, walking in nature, reading a fave blog post or simply soaking in a quiet moment of reflection.

Motivational quote…

“Every step I take is a gift I refuse to take for granted. I’m thankful for the legs that carry me, the air that fills my lungs, and the strength God gives me to keep moving forward. I’m thankful for the quiet moments on the trail where I can hear His voice in the wind and feel His presence in the steady rhythm of my steps. Life may not be perfect, the path may not be smooth, but the journey is still beautiful. FaithFitnessFocus” – Steve (me)

What are you doing, groaning through the world beneath a load of fears and cares?Β

A graphic design featuring the word 'GRACE' in bold letters on a red background, accompanied by the text 'Truth in Love' in smaller font below.

What are you doing, groaning through the world beneath a load of fears and cares?

Thomas Guthrie, 1803-1873Β
Matthew 10:29-31,Β “Are not twoΒ sparrowsΒ sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father.Β And even the veryΒ hairsΒ of your head are all numbered.Β So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”Β

There is no such thing asΒ chance. All the reins that guide and govern the world, are gathered into the hands of Jesus. His care of His people extends to the most common, and apparently trivial matters; all areΒ links in the golden chain of providence.Β

Divine Providence is a comforting doctrine, too precious to be parted with!Β
Let the thought that Jesus . . .
Β  watches over all your affairs,Β
Β  and guards your welfare,
Β  and guides all your ways–
banish your every anxious care.Β

I do not say that you will never beΒ disappointed, but certainly you ought never to beΒ discontented. Many things in your circumstances may occasion anxious thought, but nothing should cause or can excuse sinful repining.Β

Child of God! He has numbered theΒ hairsΒ of your head, as well as theΒ starsΒ of Heaven!

Believer,Β Β what are you doing, groaning through the world beneath a load of fears and cares?Β What should discourage you? What should disturb your peace? What can ruffle the calm spirit of a man who knows thatΒ the hands which were once nailed to the tree for him, now hold the helm of his destiny? The blessed Savior, who by love’s golden scepter reigns within his heart, holds sovereign sway over earth and Heaven; and . . .Β
Β  by both bitter and sweet providences,Β
Β  by both coffins and cradles,Β
Β  by both disappointments and joys,Β
Β  by both losses and gains,Β
shall cause all things to work together for good to those who love Him, to those who are called according to His purpose.Β

Tuner Tuesday: iWalk 3.41 miles πŸ‘¨πŸ»β€πŸ¦―

Today’s Pond Photo…

Hi Fitblitzers…

Once again I didn’t want to go out, but stay as ‘Doctor Steve’ and look after my lovely Wife Sarah. And once again my excuses didn’t work, as I have a 2 hour window between Sarah’s eye drops…She sent me out again so she can get some much needed sleep.

It was super sonny this morning which made for nice photos hopefully? But it wasn’t good for me as I like overcast. But it’s not all about me, lol, it’s about getting you some nice photos to look at! πŸ˜€

Hey…I’ve just remembered it’s ‘Tuner Tuesday’, which means I’ll be getting one of Sarah’s monumental TUNA stack salad sarnies…Hopefully!! 😲

Sarah’s  Stupendous Scooby Stack Sandwich…πŸ˜‹

Sorry no photo of the sandwich…So I used the fruit dumbbell pic I like!

The moment it landed on the plate, it was obvious this was no ordinary sandwich. The wholemeal bread, dotted with seven seeds like a constellation of crunchy gems, held secrets within its soft, nutty embrace. Sarah had layered it with precision. A tin of tender tuna, each flake perfectly seasoned, nestled beside the creamy coolness of fat free cottage cheese, a gentle tang dancing across every bite.

Lettuce leaves and slices of tomato and cucumber added a crisp, refreshing crunch, while beetroot brought a sweet, earthy depth. And then, oh yes, the slice of ham, subtly smoky, draped over it like a satin ribbon.

The first bite was symphony: the nutty seeds gave a satisfying crunch, the tuna mingled with cottage cheese in silky harmony, and the salad popped with freshness.

Each subsequent bite was a journey: the earthiness of beetroot grounding the soul, the seeds sparking tiny bursts of flavor, and the ham whispering just the right note of indulgence. It wasn’t just lunch, it was a masterpiece, and Sarah, its brilliant creator.

By the time the last morsel was gone, I wasn’t just full, I was grateful. Grateful for flavors that danced, textures that delighted, and a sandwich that somehow tasted like love.

Now focus…

Hi Fitblitzers.

Well after an emotional weekend, I really didn’t want to leave Sarah and head out on the trail…But Sarah said “GO, I need some sleep, and there is a 2 hour window between each medication, so you can go out for your walk…You’re not letting the FitBlitzers down’…Well I tried my excuses but they didn’t work, lol! 🀣

The sunshine was blazing today and it wasn’t an easy walk. But I still managed to keep a 3.5mph pace and I didn’t hit anything or anyone, yay! πŸ˜€

Now I’m back it’s time to switch to ‘Doctor Steve’ mode and look after Sarah some more. It was actually nice to be back out on the trail, especially after spending yesterday sat in a chair on the ward for over 7 hours! πŸ™ πŸ˜€

Faith, Fitness, Focus Friday: Rest & Reflect

Hi Fitblitzers…

Every Friday I like to stop, take a step back and look at the trail behind me before I go charging into the next week. This isn’t only about chasing numbers or beating records…It’s about remembering that every mile is a gift, and sometimes the greatest progress comes when we pause, rest and simply give thanks.

This Week in Miles

  • Monday:Β 6.00 miles
  • Tuesday:Β 6.00 miles
  • Wednesday:Β 3.40 miles
  • Thursday:Β 8.56 miles (my longest walk yet on this journey).

Total: 23.96 miles in just four days. That’s almost 24 miles, something I never would have thought possible 2 months ago. But instead of rushing past it, I want to stop here for a moment and reflect.

Reflections from the Trail

  • Strength isn’t just about pushing harder, it’s also about knowing when to slow down.Β Wednesday’s shorter walk reminded me that recovery is as important as distance.
  • Progress is humbling.Β Yes, Thursday was a record for me, but it left me tired in the best way. The kind of tired that reminds you you’reΒ alive,Β learning, and beingΒ stretched.
  • Recovery matters.Β Muscles need rest, minds need stillness and souls need space to breathe. Sometimes the most powerful progress happens when you sit down, give thanks and allow your body to heal.

Encouragement…

Maybe you’ve had a week full of energy, or maybe it’s been heavy and you’ve had to slow right down…Both are okay. Progress isn’t always about speed or distance. Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is to rest, reflect and prepare your heart for the next step.

Motivation…

“The strongest journeys are not measured in miles walked, but in the humility to pause, the courage to continue and the faith to be thankful in it all“.

Scripture snack…

β€œHe gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” – Isaiah 40:29

This week has been full of movement…But today, let’s take a moment for gratitude. Rest, reflect, recover and be ready for the road ahead.

Thankful Thursday: iWalk 8.56 miles πŸ˜²πŸ‘¨πŸ»β€πŸ¦―

Today’s Pond Photo…

Hi Fitblitzers.

My lovely Wife Sarah is working in London again today, so I went out on the trail at 7am. One of the good things about attempting 3 laps today, is that I get to take 6 photos for you.

It was nice and cloudy today so I didn’t have the sun to use as an excuse, lol. I also had a couple of soft flasks, a carb gel and a Grenade protein bar on my person…I want to be prepared and not be left wanting! πŸ˜€

It was also cool at 13Β¬C which is perfect for me. I still have 37 pounds to lose so I’m too insulated at the moment, lol. It was time to let the brakes off my HOKA Speedgoats and just hold on!

When I arrived home and stopped my workout, it’d taken me 2 hours 29 minutes to do 8.56 miles. So I must have been walking around 3.5mph which is fast for me, yay! πŸ’ͺ🏼

Oh and after I’d picked myself up off the floor (you’ve guessed it) it was time to make my smelly French toast as Sarah’s not here to choke on the smell. I’ll leave it to your imagination on how it turned out, as I really don’t want to take a photo of it, lol! 🀣

Mortification and Vivification

A graphic design featuring the word 'GRACE' in bold letters on a red background, accompanied by the text 'Truth in Love' in smaller font below.

Mortification and Vivification

Arthur Pink,
Ephesians 4:22-24, “You were taught with reference to your former way of life, toΒ lay aside the old manΒ who is being corrupted in accordance with deceitful desires–to be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and toΒ put on the new manΒ who has been created in God’s image–in righteousness and holiness that comes from truth.”

The Christian life is not a playground, but a battlefield. We are called to take up arms against two mighty foes: the indwelling corruption of our flesh; and the sluggishness of our hearts toward God. Scripture speaks of this double duty asΒ mortificationΒ of sin, andΒ vivificationΒ of grace.

Whenever the Holy Spirit regenerates someone, He implants a holy principle within that person which always manifests itself in the ongoing work of mortification and vivification. That is, the practicalΒ putting offΒ of the old man and theΒ putting onΒ of the new man. This mortification and vivification is continued throughout life, and will not end until glorification.

First, the mortification of sin. The flesh is a restless rebel, forever plotting treason against its rightful King. Pride, envy, lust, sloth, anger, impurity–these are no trifles, butΒ serpents whose venom would destroy the soulΒ if left unchecked. Our duty is not toΒ pamperthem, but toΒ slayΒ them. The believer must take the sword of the Spirit and pierce through every darling sin, however small it may appear. Yet we cannot mortify any sin by the sheer strength of our will. Only as we walk in the Spirit, will He enable us to mortify sin.

“Walk in the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh!” (Galatians 5:16)

Second, the vivification of our graces, so that we increase in strength and make further advances in true piety. To mortify sin is to pull up the weeds–but we must also nurture the flowers of holiness. We can do this, only as we vivify our graces: faith must be exercised, love  must be kindled, hope must be nourished, prayer must be cultivated. A barren soul is not a safe soul. When our graces are not growing, then our sins will be spreading. But again, here is our weakness: left to ourselves, we can no more make faith flourish than we can make the lilies grow. It is the Spirit who breathes life, waters every grace, and makes the believer fruitful in every good work.

Thus the Christian is ever cast upon the Spirit. Only through Him, can we kill sin and cultivate holiness. Let us then walk by the Spirit, pray in the Spirit, and depend wholly on the Spirit–until that day when sin shall be no more, and grace shall blossom into glory!

“Put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.” (Romans 13:14)

Today’s Pond Photo…

Hi Fitblitzers…

After yesterday’s 6 mile (2 laps) walk, i really didn’t want to go out and do another 6 miles today..But I did, and I walked even faster as it was nice and overcast. Once my legs knew the sun wasn’t blazing, they seemed to just take off and wouldn’t slow down. I’m happy sat here typing this after doing 2 laps each day instead of 1, and I’m still in one piece, yay! πŸ˜€

I think ‘Thankful Thursday’ will be the day I try for 3 laps, as I have to reach 3 laps in August…So hopefully I’ll be thankful for managing 3 laps on Thursday. πŸ™ At the moment I have a 500ml soft flask filled with Sarah’s zero sugar orange dilute water (well tasty), and I sip it around the second lap. But going longer I’ll have to take a little bite to eat too! πŸ˜‹

Motivational Monday: iWalk 6 miles πŸ‘¨πŸ»β€πŸ¦―

Today’s Pond Photo…

Hi Fitblitzers.

Wow ‘Motivational Monday’ comes around fast! I had no idea it was slightly raining, until I stepped out of the house..It was the fine stuff that soaks you through which was perfect for me, as it meant it was overcast so much better for my vision. But you probably knew it was raining as all of the photos are in monochrome! 🀣

It was nice for me out on the trail, there were few people out and the drizzle was keeping me cool even though I had to do 2 laps (6 miles) today…Oh no it’s starting to get serious!

I’ve made another little trail lap rule: 1 lap = 3 photos, 2 laps = 4 photos, 3 laps = 6 photos, 4 laps = 8 photos etc. I thought it would help me stay sane and keep my brain working as I often zone out and hit full zombie mode. And at the same time I’ll get more photos for you guys to enjoy…A win win! πŸ’ͺ🏼

I need to start doing 2 laps (6 miles) each day now as I slowly progress and crank up the kilometres. My legs are not happy about it but they have no choice. 🀣 I hope you enjoy the 4 photos in this post? I’m resting my legs as I post this with a lovely ‘Sarah stack ham, cheese salad sarnie’. πŸ˜‹

The workings of grace in the heart

J.C. RyleΒ
“The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” John 3:8
Β
The workings of grace in the heartΒ are utterly mysterious and unsearchable.
Β
Β Β
We cannot explain why the Word produces effects on one person in a congregation, and not upon another.Β
Β Β
We cannot explain why, in some cases; with every possible advantage, and in spite of every entreaty–people reject the Word, and continue dead in trespasses and sins.Β
Β Β
We cannot explain why in other cases; with every possible difficulty, and with no encouragement–people are born again, and become decided Christians.Β
Β Β
We cannot define the manner in which the Spirit of God conveys life to a soul, and the exact process by which a believer receives a new nature.Β
Β Β
All these are hidden things to us.Β
We see certain results, but we can go no further.Β
Β Β
This is deeply instructive. It isΒ humblingΒ no doubt to ministers, and teachers of others.Β
Β  The highest abilities,Β
Β  Β  the most powerful preaching,Β
Β  Β  Β  the most diligent working,Β
Β  Β  Β  Β  cannot command success.Β
Β
God alone can give spiritual life!Β
Β
But it is a truth at the same time, which supplies an admirable antidote to excessive anxiety and despondency.Β Our principal work is to sow the seed. That done, we may wait with faith and patience for the result. We may leave our work with the Lord. He alone can, if He thinks fit, give success.Β

and I will haveΒ compassionΒ on whom I have compassion.”

Thankful Thursday: iWalk 6.42 miles πŸ˜²πŸ‘¨πŸ»β€πŸ¦―

Today’s Pond Photo…

Hi Fitblitzers.

Picture this: 7 a.m., the streets still yawning, and me stomping back home after walking 6.42 miles (my longest distance so far) like a man on a mission. Sarah’s off to London, so it’s just me…And the lonely kitchen. No kisses, no cuddles, no lovingly made coffee, just the cold hard reality that I have to make my infamous smelly lunch.

Enter my protein french toast…

Imagine 3 innocent slices of 7 seed wholemeal bread…Suddenly colliding head-on with a tanker full of egg whites, with the aroma of a gym locker room. Sarah hates the smell of those egg whites…So I only unleash this monster when she’s not around.

the result…?

On the plate it looks like the bread’s been in a high-speed chase, taken a wrong turn into a hen house, and then been caught in a murder mystery. That deep red “crime scene“? Don’t panic…It’s just sugar free maple syrup pooling like suspicious evidence.

Honestly, you wouldn’t think you could make this much visual chaos with only 3 ingredients…But here I am, casually creating my ‘French Toast’ art that looks like it should be taped off by the police. 🚨

Still…With 65 grams of protein, 650 calories, and a plate that could double as a true crime documentary prop…It’s a killer meal and I’m very THANKFUL for it! πŸ™

From tales to trails…

I hope you enjoyed the ‘French Toast’ story? But I need to finish this post, lol. I walked 6.42 miles today, which is a record distance for me during this training. I’m still waiting for the muscle memory to keck in, as I’d say I’d never walked this far in my life…It was killer, and I was so THANKFUL that I actually made it! home.

As I did 2 laps today, the 2 photos above were when I decided to walk down the side of the usual pond (smaller one) to get to the steps that lead up to the larger pond (see photo below). I’ve got other ‘audio beacons’ on my Soundscape app which are not on my trail lap route…And the steps is one of them. So when I got to the usual pond photo spot, I selected the ‘Top Pond Steps’ audio beacon, listened to the radar sound as I turned my head, and when my head is facing the beacon (steps) it makes a different beep so I start walking towards it…Hoping I don’t fall into the pond or hit lots of other obstacles! 😨 Wow I’m THANKFUL for the Soundscape app!

Once getting to the top of the steps, you’re greeted with a lovely view of the larger pond.

Back on the trail on lap 2…

I love walking along feeling so small as the towering trees keep me company. Not only do they ensconce me with some shade, make smile noises as the wind tickles them, but it just feels so good walking along (zombie shuffling) surroundedd by lots of trees. πŸ˜€

Give thanks…πŸ™

How might you pause to give thanks today? Maybe it’s lifting a prayer, holding onto a Bible verse that leaps off the page (or screen), letting a worship song wash over you, walking in nature, or simply soaking in a quiet moment of reflection.

Tuner Tuesday: iWalk 3.40 miles πŸ‘¨πŸ»β€πŸ¦―

Today’s Pond Photo…

Hi Fitblitzers…

Wow I thought lack of motivation was yesterday, but it hit me again this morning. After I tried some excuses (they never work with Sarah, lol) I put on my HOKA Speedgoats and got out on the trail.

Once the Speedgoats touch the trail, I know it’s time for business, it’s like hitting sports mode in a car and it hunkers down ready to race. 🀣 The only trouble is that it’s going to be over 30˚C today so I needed to walk slow, as yesterday was horrific and I was over heated and could hardly talk when I got back.

I have no idea what happened to the photo above? I was walking along a straight part of the trail, and the sun was shining beautifully through the trees…So I stopped and took the photo. It usually works and you’ll get a lovely shot…But when I got home and saw this one on my big screen…I’m sorry, lol! 😭

Sarah’s Sunshine Bench…β˜€οΈ

Awww my lovely Wife Sarah isn’t sat on her bench! 😭 I was missing her lots today as I was hot, sweaty and ready for a hug and a coffee. So I thought I’d stop and take this photo when my Soundscape app shouted out the ‘Sarah’s Sunshine Bench’ audio beacon in my ear. πŸ˜€

Now focus…

Anyway, i’d better stop rambling on (pun intended) and let us check if we’re in tune as it’s ‘Tuner Tuesday’. I’ve added ‘Blood Pressure’ to the ‘B’ string as I now take my blood pressure every week, as it’s so important to know your blood pressure numbers!

Hi Fitblitzers.

Wow…I think the weekend stole my motivation! I really didn’t want to go out on the trai this morning, but with Sarah gently encouraging me, and the fact I have to write this post for you fantastic FitBlitzers…I knew I had to man up and get out there! 🀣

I think all of the other people around here didn’t know (or forgot) it’s ‘Motivational Monday’, as it was really quiet on the trail. It was better for me though as it was blazing sunshine, and I was all over the trail as I couldn’t see a thing with the crazy glare that proper mashes my brains. 😨 But it does make for sunnier photos, lol! 🀣

When I arrived home and my lovely Wife Sarah had one of her stupendous fresh coffees for me, I could hardly speak. It wasn’t my body that was so tired, it was my mental exhaustion through concentrating through the glare! After I’d sat down for about 15 minutes I was back to my usual self! πŸ˜€

The whole Christian life is drawn in one line

The whole Christian life is drawn in one line

Charles Spurgeon, “Coming, Always Coming”Β
1 Peter 2:4, “Coming to Him”

This is an apt description of the whole of the Christian life. I consider it to be a complete picture of a saint, drawn with one stroke. In all circumstances and conditions, we are to come to Jesus alone.

The Christian life is begun, continued, and perfected altogether in dependence upon the Lord Jesus. He is both theΒ authorΒ and theΒ finisherΒ of our faith.

If weΒ beginΒ aright, we begin withΒ “Christ is all!”
If weΒ liveΒ aright, we live withΒ “Christ is all!”
And if weΒ finishΒ aright, we finish withΒ “Christ is all!”

We are to beΒ alwaysΒ coming to Him:
coming to Him for spiritual nourishment;
coming to Him for needed grace;
coming to Him for cleansing, guidance, support and comfort;
coming in fact, for everything.Β

The whole Christian life is drawn in one line–it isΒ a continuous “coming to Jesus!”

I am persuaded that the only happy, holy, safe way for a Christian to live, is to live in daily dependence upon Jesus and toΒ come to Him at all times, in all respects, under all circumstances, for everything!

May it be the habit of our lives to be incessantly coming to our loving and merciful Savior.

“Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are Mine! When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior!” Isaiah 43:1-3

FitBlitzing Friday: Pepperoni Pizza! πŸ•

Hi Fitblitzers.

I’ve just got to share this tasty Pizza with you guys. On ‘FitBlitzing Friday’ me and Sarah like to go to our local Picture House and have this Pepperoni Pizza, we call it ‘The Picture House Pepperoni’. After 4 days of FitBlitzing the trail lap (and Sarah does compressed working so has Friday’s free) we go and have one of these bad boys!

I make sure I’m still in a calorie deficit so I keep losing nearly 2 pound a week…I can’t believe this super tasty pizza is in my meal plan, and I look forwards to it

Today’s Pond Photo…

Hi Fitblitzers.

I was out proper early at 7am this morning, as Sarah is working in London today so I followed her out. This also means that when I arrive home with no cuddles, kisses or coffee I have to make my ‘Protein French Toast’. I use a carton of egg whites (50 grams of protein but they are smelly, and Sarah isn’t a fan of the smell so I save them for when she’s in London! There isn’t a photo of them as they are not pretty and look like 3 pieces of toast has crashed into some eggs with blood every where (well sugar free maple farm grove syrup). You wouldn’t think I could make such devastation with just 3 ingredients, lol! 🀣 I’m thankful for the 65 grams of protein and just 650 calories! πŸ’ͺ🏼

The trail was very quiet this morning, I think going out extra early kept every one away. Either way it meant that the blinding sun wasn’t quite fully awake yet, so I could go out and enjoy the walk…I’m thankful for that! πŸ˜€

I couldn’t get this Robin Mark song out of my head 🎢 “Give thanks to the Lord, our God and King…His love endures forever. For He is good, He is above all things, his love endures forever. Sing praise, sing praise!” 🎢 but as it’s ‘Thankful Thursday’ I couldn’t ask for a better song to be singing around the trail. πŸ˜€

I’m super thankful that I can now get around 1 lap (2.6 miles, but it’s another 0.8 miles to and from my house) without completely collapsing when I get home. It’s only been about 2 months since I’ve been FitBlitzing the trails again, and I’m so happy it’s finally starting to get a little easier (I really didn’t want to use the word easier), but I’m also getting lighter which can only help! πŸ˜€

Give thanks with a grateful heart…

Better than wine!

A graphic design featuring the word 'GRACE' in bold letters on a red background, accompanied by the text 'Truth in Love' in smaller font below.

Better than wine!

Charles Spurgeon, et al.Β
CanticlesΒ 1:2, “Your love is better than wine!”

The believer finds his truest joy, not in the fleeting pleasures of this world, but in the enduring and soul-satisfying love of the Lord Jesus Christ. “Your love is better than wine,” says the Bride to her Beloved–and the heart of every redeemed soul echoes the same.Β EarthlyΒ joysΒ may sparkle for a moment, but they soon fade. Christ’s love is better–it is . . .
Β  purer,
Β  Β  deeper,
Β  Β  Β  richer,
Β  Β  Β  Β  and forever satisfying.

Wine may gladden the heart of man, but it cannot quiet hisΒ conscience. ItΒ may brighten the face, but it cannot cleanse theΒ soul. But the love of Christ–what comfort, what peace, what delight it brings! One moment in communion with Him, outweighs a lifetime of the world’s pleasures. We have tasted His love, and it is like honey from the comb–sweeter than anything earth can offer.
His presence lifts the downcast.
Β  His fellowship strengthens the weary.
Β  Β  His nearness satisfies every longing.

Beloved, consider how Christ has poured out His love forΒ you. Not in word only, but in blood–love proven on the cross; love triumphant over sin, death, and Hell.
HeΒ lovedΒ you when you were unlovable.
HeΒ soughtΒ you when you were wandering.
HeΒ diedΒ for you when you were madly rushing to Hell.
And now He bids you to draw near and drink deeply of His love.
He is theΒ FountainΒ of living waters, the trueΒ VineΒ from which every drop of heavenly joy flows.

Has the world disappointed you?Β
Has its wine turned sour in your mouth?
Come again to the Savior. Let His love be your comfort, your song, and your strength. Here is no deceit, no regret, no after-bitterness–only pure delight, joy unspeakable and full of glory.

O believer, dwell often beneath the shadow of the Cross. Sit down under His banner of love, and feast on the riches of His grace. The love of Jesus is the joy of Heaven begun on earth, and the foretaste of eternal bliss! Drink to the full, and be satisfied in Him!

A new creation!

A graphic design featuring the word 'GRACE' in bold letters on a red background, accompanied by the text 'Truth in Love' in smaller font below.

A new creation!

Charles Spurgeon, et al.Β
2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he isΒ a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!”

Whenever anyone is saved by the sovereign grace of God, and regenerated by the Holy Spirit–he becomes a new creation in Christ. This is not a mere moral improvement, nor a religious reformation, nor the adoption of a more wholesome lifestyle–but a supernatural work of the Spirit, producing a new nature.

Having experienced this miracle of salvation, the new man now has new views, new ambitions, new convictions, new desires, new notions, new hopes, new dreads, new pleasures, new aims, new principles, new affections, new joys, and new pursuits. Everything about him is changed. He does, as it were, live in a new world!

He wasΒ onceΒ spiritually dead, enslaved to sin, governed by the flesh, blind to truth, and hostile to God!

Now, hisΒ affectionsΒ are changed–he loves what he once hated, and hates what he once loved!

Now, hisΒ mindΒ is renewed–he no longer sees life through the lens of popular culture, but through the lens of Scripture.

Now, hisΒ willΒ is liberated–he longs to do the will of God, though not without struggle. Though sin stillΒ remainsΒ in his flesh, it no longerΒ Β reignsΒ in his life.

The believer is brought into aΒ new realm: from darkness, to light; from death, to life; from the kingdom of Satan, to the kingdom of God. He isΒ Β adoptedΒ as God’s child,Β indweltΒ by the Holy Spirit, andΒ sealedΒ Β for the day of redemption. In Christ, every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms is now his! (Ephesians 1:3-8).

His past is forgiven,
his present is transformed,
and his future is secured.

But the glory of this new creation lies not in the man himself, but in the One who made him new. Just as the original creation displayed the majesty of God–so this new creation displays the greatness of His sovereignty, mercy, and grace.

Christian, never forget who you are–you are not what you once were. And though you are not yet what you will be–you are already made new in Christ. Let this truth humble you, encourage you, and move you to walk in newness of life, to the glory of God who “has rescued us from the dominion of darkness, and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins!” Colossians 1:13–14

Judge not, lest you be judged!

A graphic design featuring the word 'GRACE' in bold letters on a red background, accompanied by the text 'Truth in Love' in smaller font below.

Judge not, lest you be judged!

Charles Spurgeon, et al.
Few verses are more misunderstood or misused than the words of Jesus in Matthew 7:1, “Judge not, lest you be judged!” In our day of moral relativism, blame-shifting, and self-justification, this verse is regularly pulled out of context to silence any voice that dares to callΒ sinΒ what it is. Yet such misuse turns the Lord’s words on their head, distorting both His meaning and His purpose.

First, what Jesus is NOT saying: He is not forbidding all forms of judgment. Scripture itself commands believers to discern between good and evil (Hebrews 5:14), to expose the fruitless deeds of darkness (Ephesians 5:11), and to confront a brother or sister who is in sin (Galatians 6:1). In fact, just a few verses later in Matthew 7, Jesus warns against giving what is sacred to dogs (verse 6), and identifying false prophets by their fruits (verses 15-20)–both of which require spiritual discernment and righteous judgment. Clearly then, Jesus is not promoting a blind tolerance of sin, or moral indifference.

Nor is He forbidding the correction of others. His very command, “then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye”–implies that helping a brother overcome sin is a necessary and loving work. But it must be done with humility, self-awareness, and sincerity.

What Jesus IS condemning, is self-righteous, hypocritical judgment–the kind that sees minor faults in others, while ignoring major ones in ourselves. He is exposing the pride that delights in criticizing others from a position of moral superiority, while remaining blind to our own sin.

The image which Jesus paints is intentionally exaggerated in order to make His point: a man with aΒ plankΒ sticking out of his eye, trying to remove a speck ofΒ dustΒ from someone else’s eye. None are more unjust in their judgments of others, than those who have a high opinion of themselves.

Until we have first humbled ourselves before God, repented of our own sin, and been cleansed by His grace–we are not fit to help others. We mustΒ firstΒ judge ourselves rightly–only then will we be able to see clearly and act compassionately.

In the end, this passage is not a prohibition againstΒ loving confrontation. The real force of Jesus’ words is this: Judge yourself first. Deal with your own sinful heart, before you presume to deal with another’s. And when you do speak to others about their sin, let it be from a place of grace, truth, and godly love–never from hypocrisy.

Judgment that aligns with God’s Word, is exercised in humility and aims atΒ Β restoration–is not only permitted–it is commanded. The problem is not judgment itself, but self-righteous, hypocritical, or unjust judgment.

“Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual shouldΒ Β restoreΒ him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted.” Galatians 6:1

The Ways ad Ends of the Wicked

Charles Spurgeon, et al.

(You will find it helpful to LISTEN to the Audio, as you READ the text below.)

Psalm 1:4-6,
“Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff that the wind blows away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish!”

“Not so the wicked!”
With these solemn words, the Psalmist draws a sharp contrast between the godly and the ungodly. The righteous are like fruitful trees–rooted, nourished and prosperous. But “the wicked are like chaff that the wind blows away.” Chaff is the worthless husk separated from grain–light, dry, and empty. It is easily scattered and quickly forgotten. Such is every life lived apart from God: rootless, fruitless, and ultimately futile. However impressive the wicked may appear for a season, their prosperity is short-lived and their end is destruction! (Psalm 73:18-19)

The wicked “will not stand in the judgment.”
They will have no defense, no covering, no hope. When they stand before the Judge of all the earth, their works will be burned up as stubble. All their excuses will be silenced. The day of judgment will reveal what they are: rebels against the Most High God, having rejected His Son and despised His Word. They will not be counted “in the assembly of the righteous.” They may have mingled with the godly on earth–but in the last day, the Shepherd will infallibly separate the sheep from the goats (Matthew 25:32). Their exclusion will be eternal.

“For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.” Here is the final contrast.

The Lord lovingly and attentively watches over the path of His redeemed people. He guards their steps, directs their course, and brings them safely home.

But the way of the wicked–though it may seem smooth for a time–leads only to ruin! Their end is not annihilation, but everlasting punishment (Matthew 25:46). The broad road may appear pleasant, but it descends into outer darkness, with weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth!

Reader, Psalm 1 presents only two ways: the way of life, and the way of death.
One is watched over by God, ending in glory.
The other is forsaken by God, ending in judgment.

Which way are you walking? The only escape from the perishing path, is found in Jesus. He bore the wrath for sinners, that all who turn from their wicked ways and trust in Him may be counted among the righteous. “The Lord knows those who are His!” (2 Timothy 2:19) Let every soul flee to Him and find life!

If there were an ant at the door of your granary

Charles Spurgeon

Psalm 46:1, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble.”

“Do not be afraid . . . for I Myself will help you!” Isaiah 41:14

Today, let us hear the Lord Jesus speak to each one of us: “I Myself will help you!It is but a small thing for Me, your God, to help you. Consider what I have done already.

What! not help you? Why, before the world began, I chose you to be My treasured possession.

What! not help you? Why, I laid aside My glory and became a man for you.

What! not help you? Why, I bought you with My sin-atoning blood.

What! not help you? Why, I have died for you! And if I have done the greater, then will I not do the lesser? I gave up My life for you! And if I have done all this for you, then I will surely help you now. If you had need of a thousand times as much help, then I would give it to you. You require little, compared with what I am ready to give. It is much for you to need–but it is nothing for Me to bestow.

What! not help you? Fear not! If there were an ant at the door of your granaryasking for help–it would not ruin you to give him a handful of your wheat! Just so, you are nothing but a tiny insect at the door of My all-sufficiency!”

“I Myself will help you!” O my soul, is not this enough?

Bring your empty pitcher here! Surely this well will fill it.

Hasten! gather up your needs, and bring them all here–your emptiness, your woes, your troubles. Behold, this river of God is full for your supply. What more can you desire? The Eternal God is your helper!

“The Lord is with me; He is my helper!” Psalm 118:7

“My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of Heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:2

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

Worship at Immanuel’s feet

Isaac Watts, 1674-1748

(We highly suggest that you LISTEN to the audio as you READ the text below.
This is perhaps the most Christ-exalting hymn that we have ever heard!)

1. Worship at Immanuel’s feet;

See in His face what wonders meet,

Earth is too narrow to express

His worth, His glory, or His grace.

2. The whole creation can afford

But some faint shadows of my Lord;

Nature, to make His beauties known,

Must mingle colors not her own.

3. Is He compared to Wine or Bread?

Dear Lord, our souls would thus be fed.

That flesh, that dying blood of thine,

Is bread of life, is heavenly wine.

4. Is He a Tree? the world receives

Salvation from His healing leaves;

That righteous branch, that fruitful bough,

Is David’s root and offspring too.

5. Is He a Rose? not Sharon yields

Such fragrancy in all her fields;

Or if the Lily He assume,

The valleys bless the rich perfume.

6. Is He a Vine? His heavenly root

Supplies the boughs with life and fruit;

O let a lasting union join

My soul to Christ, the living Vine!

7. Is He a Head? each member lives,

And owns the vital power He gives;

The saints below and saints above,

Joined by His Spirit and His love.

8. Is He a Fountain? there I bathe,

And heal the plague of sin and death;

These waters all my soul renew,

And cleanse my spotted garments too.

9. Is He a Fire? He’ll purge my dross;

But the true gold sustains no loss;

Like a Refiner shall He sit,

And tread the refuse with His feet.

10. Is He a Rock? how firm He proves!

The Rock of Ages never moves;

Yet the sweet streams that from Him flow,

Attend us all the desert through.

11. Is He a Way? He leads to God;

The path is drawn in lines of blood;

There would I walk with hope and zeal,

Till I arrive at Zion’s hill.

12. Is He a Door? I’ll enter in;

Behold the pastures large and green;

A paradise divinely fair;

None but the sheep have freedom there.

13. Is He designed the Cornerstone,

For men to build their heaven upon?

I’ll make Him my foundation too,

Nor fear the plots of hell below.

14. Is He a Temple? I adore

The indwelling majesty and power;

And still to His most holy place,

Whene’er I pray, I’ll turn my face.

15. Is He a Star? He breaks the night,

Piercing the shades with dawning light;

I know His glories from afar,

I know the bright, the Morning Star.

16. Is He a Sun? His beams are grace,

His course is joy and righteousness;

Nations rejoice when He appears

To chase their clouds and dry their tears.

17. O let me climb those higher skies,

Where storms and darkness never rise!

Where He displays His powers abroad,

And shines and reigns the incarnate God!

18. Nor earth, nor seas, nor sun, nor stars,

Nor heaven His full resemblance bears;

His beauties we can never trace,

Till we behold Him face to face!

The Christian’s grand ambition

Charles Spurgeon

Psalm 42:1-2, “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God!”

What the Christian longs for, is that he may so approach the Lord as to feel himself to be a friend of God, and know that God’s love is most surely his own.

Oh, the sweetness of knowing that there is nothing between God and you, but friendship and love; that all the sad and sinful past is forgiven and even blotted out of the Lord’s remembrance; and that now you may speak to Him without fear and trust in Him without dread.

Atonement has removed His righteous wrath and brought His boundless love. Now you may come and lie in His bosom for it is your Father’s bosom; and hide under the shadow of His wing for it is your Father’s wing, and it will cover you from all harm even as a hen covers her chicks. It is the prelude of Heaven to feel that:

“The God that rules on high,
 And thunders when He please,
Who rides upon the stormy sky,
 And manages the seas;
 This awesome God is mine!”

All of His power is for my protection,
all of His wisdom is for my direction,
all of His tenderness is for my consolation,
all of His truth is for my encouragement,
all of His grandeur is for my ennobling, and
all the infinity of His nature is for my eternal glorification.

The Christian’s grand ambition is to walk with God, and to dwell in communion with Him. He longs to abide in Him, to be forever God’s beloved, and to become daily more and more conformed to Him.

“Whom have I in Heaven but You? And earth has nothing I desire besides You. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever!” Psalm 73:25-26

Walking with the King of kings!

Charles Spurgeon, “Enoch Walking with God

(You will find it helpful to LISTEN to the Audio, as you READ the text below.)

Genesis 5:24, “Enoch walked with God.”

A man who walks with God will necessarily grow in grace, and in the knowledge of God, and in likeness to Jesus. You cannot suppose a perpetual walk with God year after year, without the favored person being strengthened, sanctified, instructed, and rendered more able to glorify God.

When we read that Enoch walked with God, we are to understand that he  realizedGod’s presence. Enoch’s faith was a realizing faith. He did not believe things as a matter of creed, and then put them up on the shelf out of the way, as most do. He was not merely orthodox in head, but the truth had entered into his heart, and what he believed was true to him, practically true–true as a matter of fact in his daily life.

Enoch walked with God. It was not that he merely thought of God, or that he speculated about God, or that he read about God, or that he  talked about God. Enoch walked with God, which is the practical and experimental part of true godliness. In his daily life Enoch realized that God was with him, and he regarded God as a living friend in whom he confided, and by whom he was loved.

This is the very flower and sweetness of Christian experience. If you would taste the cream of Christian life, it is found in having a realizing faith, and entering into intimate fellowship with the heavenly Father.

Enoch did not commune with God by fits and starts, but he abode in the conscious love of God. He did not now and then climb to the heights of elevated piety, and then descend into the marshy valley of lukewarmness. He continued in the calm enjoyment of fellowship with God from day to day.

Enoch’s life must also have been a holy life, because he walked with the holy God. If we are to walk with God, then we must walk according to truth, justice and love. The Lord keeps no company with the wicked; so we know that Enoch who walked with God, must have been an upright and holy man.

Enoch’s life must, moreover, have been a happy one. Who could be unhappy with such a companion! With God Himself with us, the way can never be dreary. Since God was his companion, then Enoch’s life must have been a way of pleasantness, and a path of peace.

And oh, what an honorable thing it is to walk with the Eternal! Many a man would give thousands to walk with a king. Numbers of people are such worshipers of dignities, that if a king did but smile at them, they would be intoxicated with delight.

What then, is the honor of walking with the King of kings! How ennobling it was for Enoch to be enabled to be the King’s companion, to walk alone with Him, and to be His familiar friend.

No life can surpass that of a man who quietly continues to walk faithfully with God, in the place where providence has placed him.
