βI would not put a thief in my mouth to steal my brains.β
William Shakespeare, Othello
Proverbs 19:19 New International Version
A hot-tempered person must pay the penalty;
rescue them, and you will have to do it again.
βGive me all of you!!! I donβt want so much of your time, so much of your talents and money, and so much of your work. I want YOU!!! ALL OF YOU!! I have not come to torment or frustrate the natural man or woman, but to KILL IT! No half measures will do. I donβt want to only prune a branch here and a branch there; rather I want the whole tree out! Hand it over to me, the whole outfit, all of your desires, all of your wants and wishes and dreams. Turn them ALL over to me, give yourself to me and I will make of you a new self—in my image. Give me yourself and in exchange I will give you Myself. My will, shall become your will. My heart, shall become your heart.β
C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity
“Lift My Life Up“
You brought me this far so why would I question You now
You have provided so why would I start to doubt
I’ve never been stranded, abandoned or left here to fight alone
So I’m giving You control
I lift my life, lift my life up
I give it all in surrender
I lift my heart, lift my heart up
You can have it forever
All my dreams, all my plans
Lord I leave it in Your hands
I lift my life, lift my life up
Have Your way in me
Have Your way in me
If peace is a river then let it sweep over me
If I’m under fire I know it’s refining me
When I hear You calling out I follow now wherever the road may go
I know You’re leading me home
I lift my life, lift my life up
I give it all in surrender
I lift my heart, lift my heart up
You can have it forever
All my dreams, all my plans
Lord I leave it in Your hands
I lift my life, lift my life up
Have Your way in me
Have Your way in me
Take my life and let it be all for You
Take my life and let it be all for You
I lift my life, lift my life up
I give it all in surrender
I lift my heart, lift my heart up
(Take my life)
I lift my life, lift my life up
I give it all in surrender
(Take my heart)
I lift my heart, lift my heart up
You can have it forever
All my dreams, all my plans
Lord I leave it in Your hands
I lift my life, lift my life up
Have Your way with me
Have Your way with me
Have Your way with me
Have Your way with me
Take my life and let it be all for You

βWhere Is Your Sanctuary? Where do you go when youβre hurting? Letβs say itβs been a terrible day at the office. You come home and go β where? To the refrigerator for comfort food like ice cream? To the phone to vent with your most trusted friend? Do you seek escape in novels or movies or video games or pornography? Where do you look for emotional rescue? The Bible tells us that God is our refuge and strength, our help in times of trouble β so much so that we will not fear though the mountains fall into the heart of the sea (Ps. 46:1 β 2). That strikes me as a good place to run. But itβs so easy to forget, so easy for us to run in other directions. Where we go says a lot about who we are. The βhigh groundβ we seek reveals the geography of our values.β

Proverbs 11:22 New International Version – UK
Like a gold ring in a pigβs snout
is a beautiful woman who shows no discretion.
The story is told of a church that secured a new preacher, and the word spread around town about how well he preached.Β The church members were abuzz about what an improvement he was over their former preacher, and how much more attention they gave to his sermons.Β When the town cynic asked what made this new preacher so much better than his predecessor, he was told, βThe old preacher told us that weβre all sinners, and that if we didnβt repent, weβd burn in hell forever!βΒ This cynic then asked, βAnd what does this new one say?βΒ The answer was, βThat weβre all sinners, and that if we donβt repent, weβll burn in hell forever!βΒ When the cynic responded that he didnβt see any difference between the two of them, he was told, βThis new preacher says it with tears in his eyes.β

βDon’t believe something just because you want to, and don’t embrace an idea just because you’ve always believed it. Believe what is biblical. Test all your assumptions against the precious words God gave us in the Bible.β

βAnd so seated next to my father in the train compartment, I suddenly asked, “Father, what is sexsin?”
He turned to look at me, as he always did when answering a question, but to my surprise he said nothing. At last he stood up, lifted his traveling case off the floor and set it on the floor.
Will you carry it off the train, Corrie?” he said.
I stood up and tugged at it. It was crammed with the watches and spare parts he had purchased that morning.
It’s too heavy,” I said.
Yes,” he said, “and it would be a pretty poor father who would ask his little girl to carry such a load. It’s the same way, Corrie, with knowledge. Some knowledge is too heavy for children. When you are older and stronger, you can bear it. For now you must trust me to carry it for you.β

Oh gently lay your head upon my chest
And I will comfort you like a mother while you rest
And the tide can change so fast, but I will stay
The same through past, the same in future, same today
I am constant and I am near
I am peace that shatters all your secret fears
I am holy, I am wise
I’m the only one who knows your heart’s desires
Your heart’s desires
Oh weary, tired and worn, let out your sighs
And drop that heavy load you hold ’cause mine is light
And I know you through and through, there’s no need to hide
I want to show you love that is deep and high and wide
‘Cause I am constant and I am near
I am peace that shatters all your secret fears
I am holy, I am wise
I’m the only one who knows your heart’s desires
Your heart’s desires
I am constant, I am near
I am peace that shatters all your secret fears

βYou win over people just like you win over a dog. You see a dog passing down the street with an old bone in his mouth. You don’t grab the bone from him and tell him it’s not good for him. He’ll growl at you. It’s the only thing he has. But you throw a big fat lamb chop in front of him, and he’s going to drop that bone and pick up the lamb chop, his tail wagging to beat the band. And you’ve got a friend. Instead of going around grabbing bones from people… I’m going to throw them some lamb chops. Something with real meat and life in it. I’m going to tell them about New Beginnings.β
David Wilkerson, The Cross and the Switchblade
βPeople think of faith as being something that you don’t really believe, a device in helping you believe simply it. Of course that is quite wrong. As Pascal says, faith is a gift of God. It is different from the proof of it. It is the kind of faith God himself places in the heart, of which the proof is often the instrument…
He says of it, too, that it is the heart which is aware of God, and not reason. That is what faith is: God perceived by the heart, not be reason.β
Malcolm Muggeridge, The End of Christendom
βAnd Grace calls out, ‘You are not just a disillusioned old man who may die soon, a middle-aged woman stuck in a job and desperately wanting to get out, a young person feeling the fire in the belly begin to grow cold. You may be insecure, inadequate, mistaken or potbellied. Death, panic, depression, and disillusionment may be near you. But you are not just that. You are accepted.’ Never confuse your perception of yourself with the mystery that you really are accepted.β
Brennan Manning, The Ragamuffin Gospel: Good News for the Bedraggled, Beat-Up, and Burnt Out
Christ died for the ungodly. Christ died for me. Without his sacrificial death, without God’s grace, I am powerless to save myself or make myself righteous. Jesus did for me what I could not do and paid off my debt to sin which I could not pay. He did it for me; not because I was good enough to be worthy of his death, but because I couldn’t be worthy without him.

“Lord, give me an open heart to find You everywhere, to glimpse the heaven enfolded in a bud, and to experience eternity in the smallest act of love.β

Once upon a time a man whose ax was missing suspected his neighborβs son.Β The boy walked like a thief, looked like a thief, and spoke like a thief.Β But the man found his ax while digging in the valley, and the next time he saw his neighborβs son, the boy walked, looked, and spoke like any other child.

βThe only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision.β
Helen Keller
This quote really hits home for me in so many ways. I spent 24 years of being fully sighted just feeling lost, empty, angry and wasting my selfish life, being pulled one way and the other, not caring who i hurt.
Then in 2004 after losing most of my sight, Jesus became the light of my world. “I was blind but now I seeβ. see my About Steve page…
Now with Jesus as my destination on my “Spiritual Sat Nav” I have Vision, purpose, worth, and directions to follow. π
How is your vision?
Every Sunday the ducks waddle out of their houses and waddle down Main Street to their church.Β They waddle into the sanctuary and squat in their proper pews.Β The duck choir waddles in and takes its place, then the duck minister comes forward and opens the duck Bible.Β He reads to them:Β βDucks!Β God has given you wings!Β With wings you can fly!Β With wings you can mount up and soar like eagles.Β No walls can confine you!Β No fences can hold you!Β You have wings.Β God has given you wings and you can fly like birds!βΒ All the ducks shouted, βAmen!βΒ Β And they all waddled home.

Doeg
1 Samuel 22 The Voice
9 Doeg the Edomite stood among Saulβs servants.
Doeg: I saw the son of Jesse when he came to Nob to speak with the priest, Ahimelech son of Ahitub. 10 Ahimelech asked the Eternal One questions on Davidβs behalf, gave him provisions, and even gave him the legendary sword of Goliath the Philistine.Β
Saul (to Doeg): 18 Carry out my orders. Turn around, and kill these priests.
So Doeg the Edomite attacked them. That day he turned and killed 85 men who wore the priestly linen garment. 19 Then he went after Nob, the city of the priests, with his sword and utterly destroyed everything he found thereβall the men, women, children, and infants. Doeg even turned his blade against the oxen, donkeys, and sheep. 20 Only Abiathar, son of Ahimelech, son of Ahitub, escaped, and he fled to David for protection. 21 He informed David that Saul had massacred the priests of the Eternal.
Psalm 52 The Voice
Psalm 52 recalls the callous way Doeg and Saul put to death the 85 priests of Nob (1 Samuel 22:6β19). The psalm ends with a memorable image: the one who keeps faith with God is like a lush olive tree cared for in His garden. While those who do not trust in Him are snatched up and torn away, those who do right will flourish under His care.
1 Why do you boast of all the trouble you stir up, O mighty one,Β when the constant, unfailing love of God is what truly lasts?Β 2 Have you listened to yourself?Β Your tongue is like a sharp razor,Β full of lies that slash and tear right to the soul.Β 3 Youβve fallen in love with evil and have no interest in what He calls good.Β You prefer your own lies to speaking what is true.
4 You love words that destroy people, donβt you,Β lying tongue?Β 5 You wonβt be smilingΒ when the True God brings His justice and destroys you forever.Β He will come into your home, snatch you away,Β and pull you from the land of the living.
6 Those who are just will see what happens to you and be afraid.Β And some of them will laugh and say,Β 7 βHey, look! Over there is the one who didnβt takeΒ shelter in the True God;Β Instead, he trusted in his great wealthΒ and got what he wanted by destroying others!βΒ
8 But my life is abundantβlike a lush olive treeΒ cared for at the house of the one True God.Β I put my trust in His kind loveΒ forever and ever; it will never fail.Β 9 Because of all You have done,Β I will humble myself and thank You forever.Β With Your faithful people at my side,Β I will put my hope in our good reputation.

When God wants to drill a man and thrill a man and skill a manβ¦
When God wants to mould a man to play the noblest part;
When He yearns with all His heart to create so great and bold a man
That all the world shall praise,
Watch His methods, watch His ways!
Β
How He ruthlessly perfects whom He royally elects; how He hammers and hurts him,
And with mighty blows coverts him into frail shapes of clay that only God understands.
How his tortured heart is crying and he lifts beseeching hands….
How He bends but never breaks when His good He undertakes.
How He uses whom He choosesβ¦. with every purpose fuses him;
By every art induces him to try His splendour out
God knows what Heβs about!
Β
When God wants to take a man and shake a man and wake a manβ¦
When God wants to make a man to do the Fatherβs will;
When He yearns with all His soul to create him large and wholeβ¦
With what cunning He prepares him⦠how He goads and never spares him!
Β
How He whets him, He frets him and in poverty, begets himβ¦
How often He disappoints whom He sacredly anoints!
With what wisdom He will hide him; never minding what betide himβ¦
Makes him lonely so that only Godβs high messages shall reach himβ¦
So that He may surely teach him what His heavenly Father planned.
Β
When God wants to name a man and tame a man to do His heavenly bestβ¦.
When He tries the highest test that His reckoning may bringβ¦
How He reins him and restrains him so his body scarce contains himβ¦
When He fires him and inspires him, keeps him yearning,
Ever burning for the tantalizing goal.
Lures and lacerates his soul⦠sets a challenge for His spirit;
Draws it highest, then he is near it!
Then makes a jungle, then he clears it;
Makes a desert that he fears it, if he canβ¦
So does God make a man!
Β
Then to test His Spiritβs wrath, He throws a mountain in his path,
Puts a bitter choice before him and relentlessly stands oβer himβ¦
Climb or perish, so He saysβ¦. But watch His purpose, watch His ways!
Godβs plan is wondrously kindβ¦ could we understand His mind?
Fools are they who call God blind!
Β
When his feet are torn and bleeding; yet His Spirit mounts unheedingβ¦
Blazing newer paths and finds….
Lo, the crisis, lo, the shouts that would call the leader outβ¦
When the people need salvation does he rise to lead the nation;
Then does God show His plan⦠and the world has found its man!
