๐ŸŽ„ #21 The Glorious Incarnation ~ Message Of Hope

The Glorious Incarnation Logo

ย โ€œThus says the Lord: the meaning of Christmas is that what is good and precious in your life need never be lost, and what is evil and undesirable in your life can be changed. The fears that the few good things that make you happy are slipping through your fingers, and the frustrations that the bad things you hate about yourself or your situation canโ€™t be changedโ€”these fears and these frustrations are what Christmas came to destroy. It is Godโ€™s message of hope this Advent that what is good need never be lost and what is bad can be changed.โ€

See the cause of my happiness

See the cause of my happiness

(James Smith, “My Savior!” 1860)

My soul, meditate for a few moments on what Jesusย isย to you, and what Jesus hasย doneย for you. Look back and glance at theย circumstancesย in which He found you โ€” and theย deliveranceย which He wrought for you.

1. Theย circumstancesย in which Jesus found you.ย Jesus found meย out of the way. God by His law had marked out a way in which His creatures should walk โ€” its character was holiness, and its end His glory. But all we like sheep had gone astray, we had turned every one to his own way. We were in the path of death and destruction, and on the way to Hell.ย

We were not only out of the way โ€” but we wereย enslaved. We were . . .
ย  slaves ofย sin,
ย  the drudges of theย world, and
ย  led captive by theย Devilย at his will.ย

We wereย diseasedย โ€” as well as enslaved. We wereย leprousย from head to foot. We had theย plague of the heart!ย The whole head was sick, and the whole heart was faint.ย

We wereย imprisoned, as well as diseased. We were shut up in unbelief and sin. Our cell was cold and damp, dark and narrow โ€” and our imprisonment was not merely for a few years โ€” it was forever!ย

We wereย dead, though still conscious, and to some things alive. Dead in trespasses and sins.ย

In this state we were โ€” and we loved it well. We neither desired, nor sought deliverance.ย Left to ourselvesย . . .
ย  we would haveย wanderedย on in darkness, until we had perished in our sins;ย
ย  we would have continued theย slavesย of sin and Satan forever;
ย  ourย diseaseย would have preyed upon our vitals to all eternity;ย
ย  ourย prisonย walls would have enclosed us still;ย
ย  we would have remainedย deadย in sin,ย
ย  we would have suffered all the pangs ofย damnationย forever!

2. Theย deliveranceย which Jesus wrought for you.ย Jesus saved me!

He saved me from theย roaring lion, who goes about seeking to devour me!

He saved me fromย my raging lusts, so that sin shall not have dominion over me!

He saved me fromย righteous wrath, and I, being justified by His blood, shall be saved from wrath through Him!

He saved me fromย death, the ‘king of terrors,’ depriving theย monsterย of his sting, and giving me the victory over him!

He has also saved me from theย flaming furnace of Hellย โ€” from that lake of fire, and thoseย floods of flameย in which the lost must welter forever!

See the cause of my happinessย โ€”ย
I have a Savior!ย

A Savior who is divine.ย
A Savior who has ever loved me.ย
A Savior who lived, labored, and died for me.ย
A Savior who pleads for me before the throne of His Father.ย
A Savior who is in His Father’s house, preparing a place for me.ย
A Savior who will soon come and receive me to Himself, that so I may be forever with Him! Yes, I have a Savior โ€” one who . . .
ย  watches over me,ย
ย  walks through the wilderness with me,ย
ย  and rejoices to do me good.

Reader, haveย youย a Savior?ย
Can you use these two precious words,ย “My Savior”?ย
Have you realized that you were lost?ย
Have you fled to His cross?ย
Have you fallen into His arms?ย
Have you been cleansed by His blood, and clothed in His righteousness?ย
Do you possess His Holy Spirit?ย

Make sure work, O make sure work!
Eternityย is just at hand!
Deathย is coming!
Judgmentย follows!
And then โ€” anย eternity of happiness or woe!
Yourย eternal allย depends on having Jesus for your Savior!
No one can save you but Jesus.ย
No one can . . .
ย  support you in sickness,
ย  comfort you in death, or
ย  give you victory over the grave โ€” but Jesus!

Losses, crosses, disappointments and bereavements.

Steel Quote Logo

“Unto you therefore who believe โ€” He is precious!” 1 Peter 2:7

Christ is especially precious to believers โ€” when the emptiness of the world is discovered. The soul having tried the world, has found it . . .

false and fickle,
an empty cistern,
a dry well,
a cloud without water,
only vanity and vexation of spirit!

The Christian has experienced that . . .
the world’s pleasures โ€” end in pain,
its honors โ€” end in disgrace,
and its wealth โ€” ends in absolute poverty.

Now turning from the world, to Jesus โ€” it finds . . .

solid happiness,
substantial pleasure,
full supplies.

It obtains . . .
a deep and lasting peace which passes all understanding,
unsearchable riches in Christ, and
honors which will never pass away.

O how precious is Jesus, when this world appears to be a valley of tears! Almost everything earthly is at times calculated to . . .

cause sorrow,
fill us with sadness,
and draw forth tears.
Losses, crosses, disappointments and bereavements โ€” all conspire to make us sad. Earth is to us a Valley of Achor โ€” the place of trouble and sorrow.

Now turning to Jesus, we find a friend who loves at all times, and a brother born for adversity.
He makes up for every loss,
He sanctifies every disappointment,
and He fills for us every relation.

His presence is . . .

like a flowing spring โ€” in a dreary desert,
like a cheering fire โ€” on a piercing winter’s night,
and like a happy home โ€” to the exhausted traveler.

O how precious is Jesus now!

(James Smith, “Christ Precious!” 1861)

Everyone Was Happy

โ€œIt was strictly forbidden to preach to other prisoners. It was understood that whoever was caught doing this received a severe beating. A number of us decided to pay the price for the privilege of preaching, so we accepted their [the communists’ ] terms. It was a deal; we preached and they beat us. We were happy preaching. They were happy beating us, so everyone was happy.โ€

Smile From The Heart Out

Quote Logo

A smile creates happiness in the home, fosters good will in business and is the countersign of friends. It is rest to the weary, daylight to the discouraged, sunshine to the sad, and nature’s best antidote for trouble. Yet it cannot be bought, begged, borrowed, or stolen, for it is something that is no earthly good to anybody until it is given away. Keep smiling- and let your smile be one of sincerity. Don’t just force it out to make a sale, to keep out of a fight, or for similar reasons. But smile from the heart out, making those who see you smile do likewise in a feeling of good fellowship.
