Let this comfort you:
(Letters of John Newton)
“My times are in Your hands!” Psalm 31:15Β
What a mercy it is that all our concerns are in sure hands! Not aΒ hairΒ of our heads can fall to the ground, but by the appointment of Him who orders and marshals theΒ starsΒ and calls them all by their names!
Diseases and sicknesses areΒ His messengers, and, when they have answered His end–then He will recall them. But on many accounts there is aΒ need beΒ that we should sometimes be in heaviness for a season. O may we learn to take up the cross, and to kiss the rod of affliction. We need to look through allΒ second causes–to Him who appoints and over-rules, and without whose permission, not a hair of our heads shall fall to the ground.Β
The Lord has promised to direct, moderate, sanctify, and relieve every trial of every kind. I long to have a more entire submission to His will, and a more steadfast confidence in His Word–to trust Him and wait on Him–to see His hand, and praise His name, in every circumstance of life, great and small.
IsΒ sicknessΒ your present cross? It can come no sooner, nor fall heavier, than He bids it. And when His end is answered, and His hour comes to give relief–then sickness departs at His word. The cure becomes easy then, even where it seemed desperate before.Β
Our comforts are never safer than when we can fully trust the Lord to do with them, and with us–as He sees fit. He will not willingly or unnecessarily grieve His redeemed children. When His arm seems lifted up to strike them–how often does He put it into their hearts to run toward Him and humble themselves before Him, and thus prevent the blow!
We shall have cause to be thankful for all our afflictions–if the Lord is pleased to employ them as means to make us more humble and broken-hearted, and to wean our hearts from this vain world.
Sickness often gives us a sensible proof of the vanity of everything earthly. May the Lord sanctify our sicknesses and pains, to quicken our desires for that better world, when pain shall be no more!
Let this comfort you:Β that Jesus is the Great Physician!Β
“Great crowds came to Him, bringing the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute and many others, and laid them at His feet; and He healed them!” Matthew 15:30Β

The throne of grace
The throne of grace
(Henry Law, “Family Prayers”)
Holy, holy, holy Lord God Almighty, Heaven and earth are full of Your glory! Blessing and honor and glory and power be to You, O Father of mercies, O God of all grace and love.
We thank You, that, as vile and sin-soiled as we are–we may come into Your immediate presence, and hold this converse with You, and commune with You concerning all ourΒ concerns, all ourΒ sins, andΒ fears,Β andΒ hopesΒ andΒ desires.Β
We are astonished that we, poor sinners on earth, may speak directly to You–our greatΒ and glorious God, on Your throne in the Heaven of heavens! How wondrous the thought thatΒ our poor breathingsΒ may fly on theΒ wings of faith, and have instant access to the ears of Your grace!Β
We thank You that, in the multitude of Your tender mercies and the riches of Your pitiful compassion, You have been pleased to erectΒ this throne of graceΒ before which we now most humbly bow. We bless You that here, free grace reigns. We bless You that, at all times and in all places, we have open access toΒ You through the blood of Your dear Son.Β
We bless You that theΒ veilΒ is open, and that in His great name we may ever approach and find You . . .
Β ready to hear,Β Β
Β waiting to be gracious,Β
Β arrayed in smiles of love,Β Β
Β bidding us to touch the scepter of Your sovereign mercy,Β Β
Β inviting us to pour out every need and desire of our hearts,Β Β
Β and promising to give more than we can ask or think.
Grant, oh grant, that we may be wholly consecrated to You. May we, in spirit, soar farΒ above earth. May our hearts be fast barred against admission of worldly thoughts or cares. Send Your peace, passing all understanding, as a flood into our anxious minds.Β May our meditations of You be sweet. May we drink deeply of the refreshing streams proceeding out ofΒ Your throne. May we feast on the heaven-sent manna of Your precious Word, and thus gather strength for the upward race.
Hear us, answer us, bless us we pray. All we ask is in Jesus’ name, and for Jesus’ sake. Amen.
“Therefore let us approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” Hebrews 4:16 Β
Look up today, O parched plant!
Look up today, O parched plant!
(Charles Spurgeon)
“I will send down showers in season; there will beΒ showers of blessing.” Ezekiel 34:26
Here isΒ sovereignΒ grace, “IΒ will send down showers.” Is this not sovereign, divine mercy–for who can say, “IΒ will send down showers,” except God? There is only one voice which can speak to the clouds, and bid them beget the rain. “Who sends down theΒ rainΒ upon the earth? Who scatters theΒ showersΒ upon the green herb? Do not I, the Lord?”Β
Grace is the gift of God–and is not to be created by man.Β
It is alsoΒ neededΒ grace. What would the ground do without showers? You may break the clods, you may sow your seeds–but what can you do without the rain? As absolutely needful is theΒ divineΒ blessing. In vain you labor, until God bestows the plenteous shower, and sends salvation down.Β
Then, it isΒ plenteousΒ grace. “I will send downΒ showers.” It does not say, “I will send themΒ drops,” but “showers.” So it is with grace. If God gives a blessing, He usually gives it in such a measure that there is not room enough to receive it. Plenteous grace! Ah! we need plenteous grace . . .
Β to keep us humble,
Β to make us prayerful,
Β to make us holy,Β
Β to make us zealous,
Β to preserve us through this life,
Β and at last to land us in Heaven!Β
We cannot do withoutΒ saturating showersΒ of grace.Β
Again, it isΒ seasonableΒ grace. “I will send down showersΒ in season.”Β
What is your season this morning?Β
Is it the season of drought? Then that is the season for showers.Β
Is it a season of great heaviness and black clouds? Then that is the season for showers.Β
“As your days–so shall your strength be.”Β
And here is aΒ variedΒ grace. “I will give you showersΒ of blessing.” The word is in the plural. All kinds of blessings God will send. All God’s blessings go together, like links in a golden chain. If He givesΒ convertingΒ grace–He will also giveΒ comfortingΒ grace. He will send “showers of blessing.”Β
Look up today, O parched plant, and open your leaves and flowers for a heavenly watering!Β
A subtle leaven which the heart is always ready to receive!
AΒ subtle leavenΒ which the heart is always ready to receive!
(J.C. Ryle, “The Gospel of Luke” 1858)
“Beware of theΒ leaven of the Pharisees–which isΒ hypocrisy. For there is nothingΒ coveredΒ that will not be revealed, norΒ hiddenΒ that will not be made known.” Luke 12:1-2
The first thing that demands our attention in these verses, isΒ Christ’s warning against hypocrisy.Β
This is aΒ warningΒ of which the importance can never be overrated. It was delivered by our Lord more than once, during His earthly ministry. It was intended to be a standing caution to His whole church in every age, and in every part of the world.Β
It was meant to remind us thatΒ the principles of the Pharisees are deeply ingrained in human nature–and that Christians should be always on their guard against them. Hypocrisy isΒ aΒ subtle leavenΒ which the heart is always ready to receive!Β It is a leaven which once received into the heart, infects the whole character of a man’s Christianity. Of this leaven, says our Lord, in words that should often ring in our ears–of this leaven,Β beware!
Let us ever nail this caution in our memories, and bind it on our hearts.Β The plague is around us on every side!Β The danger is at all times. What is the essence of Romanism, and formalism, and ceremonialism? What is it all, but the leaven of the Pharisees under one shape or another?Β The Pharisees are not extinct!Β Pharisaism lives still.
If we would not become Pharisees–then let us cultivate a ‘heart religion’. Let us realize daily that the God with whom we have to do, looks far below the outward surface of our profession, and that He measures us by the state of our hearts. Let us beΒ realΒ andΒ trueΒ in our Christianity. Let us abhor all part-acting, and affectation, and semblance of devotion–put on for public occasions, but not really felt within.Β
Our hypocrisy may deceive man, and get us the reputation of being very religious–but it cannot deceive God. “For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, nor hidden that will not be made known.”Β
Whatever we are in religion–let us never wear a cloak or a mask of religion.
“Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give an account!” Hebrews 4:13Β
I desire that this may be the text at my funeral
“The Aged Christian’s Final Farewell to the World and its Vanities” John Whitson, 1558-1629)
I desire that this may be the text at my funeral: Psalm 42:2, “My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?”
Oh! when shall I ascend to the eternal throne of blessedness, where no comforts are lacking?
When shall I be covered with the glorious robe of immortality, and shine in the brightness of my Redeemer’s innocence?
When shall I behold the lovely face of my Lord and dwell in the courts of His holy temple, where . . .
all tears shall be wiped away from my eyes,
all sorrows removed from my heart,
and all sins and spots are done away?
Where I shall exchange the dross of this world, for true and durable riches!
Where, instead of these earthly riches which moth and rust corrupt–I shall enjoy the heavenly riches of perfect peace and good conscience, never to be lost!
Instead of these false and flattering honors, I shall enjoy everlasting glory, and be admitted into the fellowship of my Redeemer to reign with Him in His glorious kingdom!
Instead of vain and momentary pleasures, I shall be filled with fullness of joy and be ravished with those delights which neither eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor has it entered into the heart of man to conceive!
Instead of this dark and cloudy knowledge, I shall have my heart enlightened with the beams of the true light!
Instead of this feeble strength, I shall be endowed with the might of angels!
Instead of this transitory health, I shall enjoy a powerful and immortal vigor!
Instead of this fading beauty, I shall be adorned with the loveliness of Christ’s spouse!
Instead of long life, I shall be crowned with life eternal!
We shall sing, Holy! Holy! Holy! Lord God almighty! Heaven and Earth are full of your glory. Glory be to You, O Lord, most High.
And now, as the deer pants for the water-brooks, so longs my soul after You, O God!
O that I had wings like a dove, that I might fly away and be at rest!
For whom have I in Heaven but You–and who is there upon earth that I desire but You?
My heart and my strength fail me, but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion forever!
βοΈ #20 The Blind Sightseers “Escape The Lockdown” With Distant Memories: “CODE ALPHA!!”π
Awww i told myself not to cry this time whilst reading thisβ¦I failed, my face is soaking!Β
After enjoying a lovely coffee, we decided to explore the ship to try and familiurise ourselves a little more, and find things to do. Bingo, getting drunk and burned on sun loungers were not something Sarah & i found entertaining.Β
The hair salon…
We found a hair salon and booked Sarah to get her hair done, and see if they had some ideas to cover her closed eye. I thought βBeing pampered and relaxed is just what Sarah needs after a traumatic day yesterday! π I managed to find my way back to the coffee port on my own to wait for Sarah, which should be at least an hour depending what she chooses to have done. It sounds feeble, but finding the coffee port, and the door handle, and even a spare seat without anyone sitting on it, is a massive achievement for me! πΒ
Sarah returned looking beautiful, but i noticed she was having another hypo, standing up i said βQuick, lets try and get back to the cabin as we know that Lucozade or hypo stop works for youβ. βOkβ Sarah said whilst struggling to stay on her feet. We were only 1 deck above our cabin, but after only a short walk Sarah really started to drop. I thought “There is no way iβm trying to navigate the stairs, and i canβt see to use the lifts”. Luckily we were at the entrance to a bar/lounge. We were greeted by a nice Filipino waitress. I said “My wife needs the sweetest drink you have as sheβs diabetic and having a hypoβ. She was confused, but showed us to some seats(as Sarahβs legs were really starting to give way) and disappeared. I prayed that she understood and would bring something before Sarah lost consciousness.Β
The waitress returned (having told the bar man our situation) with a bright coloured drink. She said it was the sweetest cocktail they did with a lot of syrup in. I thought βa little unorthodox, but we have no choice, Sarah needs sugar nowβ.Β
Having been a gamer my whole life and played some nerve racking, suspense filled and tense computer games over the years, nothing compares to this real life game of trying to encourage Sarah to drink something she doesnβt want, to absorb sugar into her body before passing out!Β
Within the next half hour, Sarah was back with us again (phew), but feeling sick from the hypo, We needed to get back to the cabin as we didnβt know if her blood would start to shoot up again, as we didnβt have any idea what was in the drink, which is why we try to always use the lucozade etc. as we know the effects. Sarah also now had the bone chill that only comes from a hypo.
Back in the cabin…
Yay, we found the cabin! π Iβm starting to remember how many doors to count from both sides depending which set of stairs we go down. Once Sarah had checked her blood sugar again and realised it was starting to rocket, it was back in the fridge for the crossbow boltsβ¦i mean syringes. Even with our video magnifier it was really hard to make out the measurements on the needle, but after another big bruised, and big holed injection, it was time for Sarahβs hot bath to try and get rid of that freezing cold bone chill!
A while later Sarah said βDiabetes has already ruined one evening, night and most of today. Iβm not going to let it ruin the rest of my holiday. Lets get dressed up and search for some nice live musicβ βFantastic idea, we both need cheering upβ.
Sunset…
Instead of walking down endless boring corridors, we walked outside to stroll along the deck down to the rear of the ship and look out over the huge ocean. This evening we were gifted with a beautiful sunset.

As we were out on deck 9, we walked all the way to the rear (non technical name) and entered the ‘Lido restaurant’. We were both a little hungry and as this is the buffet place, itβs fantastic for Sarah as she can have vegetables or salad etc without having any of the carbs, or sugar rich sauces which raise her blood sugar. π
We became a little disheartened after hearing a couple of the live bands playing some popular rubbish on deck 8, but we walked on past the reception and hair salon and walked into a dark elegant room. Sarah said βOh greatβ¦itβs the casino :(β. I said βIt looks like the Ultralux from Fallout New Vegas (PS3 game)β Sarah replied βIt feels like fallout to me, a shiny, depraved wasteland – just what Iβve come to expect of the entertainment on this boat π¦ lolβ. But then a classical piano started playing, just audible over the noise of the casino. βWhereβs that lovely piano coming from?β I said knowing that Sarah would love it. βThrough there, but iβm not sure what it is as itβs too darkβ βLetβs go find out anywayβ. i said as i took her arm.Β
The Delo piano lounge and cocktail bar…

We stood taking in the gentle atmosphere and fantastic piano playing and both said together βThis is more like it π β We found Sarah a seat at the bar right next to the piano, Sarah loves watching pianists as they play with professional ease and elegance. It brings back lots of her childhood memories of the classical piano lessons she enjoyed! πΒ

β§ Keith the pianist β§Β
After about an hour, we were so happy that we’d found another fave place, especially after the last 24 hours, we headed back to the cabin. Sarah did another blood test βSteve, my bloodβs still going up!β I said βThatβs impossible, youβve not had any sugar or carbs, and youβve already had insulin before we leftβ βI know, and now iβve got to take some more to try and bring it downβ βOk, take a little more and weβll keep an eye on itβ.Β
Β Sarah sat on the sofa with the magnifier reading the excursion options for the Azores. I opened Spotify on my iPhone and started playing my “β Acoustic Worshipβ playlist knowing itβs Sarahβs fave. I thought βTime for us to relax and reflect for a while on a lovely end to a hectic dayβ.Β
CODE ALPHA…
Sarahβs next words were βI think my bloodβs droppingβ βOh no, I thought, your voice is slurry again, your blood canβt be that low already. Can you manage a test?β Sarahβs test confirmed a huge drop in a short time. I jumped into survival mode and grabbed the lucozade and hypo stop. Sarah was fading fast βNo, no ,no, not the big oneβ i said wondering if this would result in a diabetic coma. I didnβt have to wait long before Sarah lost consciousness!!
I now switched from survival mode, to what will Sarah need if she goes to hospital mode.Β
Sarah was sat upright on the sofa, and as i balanced to hold her head upright (there were no pillows in reach) i grabbed the cabin phone and dialled 999! A man answered and asked βHow can we help?” I said βMy wife is diabetic and she’s having a hypoglycaemic episode and is unconscious but still breathingβ He said βSheβs unconscious now? Whatβs your cabin number iβm on my way!”
He arrived in about 60 seconds. I told him what had happened as he was frantically inserting needles etc. He then called the bridge to tell the captain and his team, and a few seconds later i heard βCODE ALPHA, CODE ALPHA cabin 7062β. I thought βThatβs blasting out of the tannoy system that goes around the whole ship, and within minutes our cabin was full of people, and a wheelchair. After a few minutes Sarah slowly started to respond, but only groans. The female doctor was now in the room and after checking everything, she said theyβd take Sarah to the hospital to try and stabilise her.
The hospital…
After grabbing Sarahβs bag and a few things i thought might help, i was kindly guided down behind Sarah to the hospital waiting room. Sarah was in a private room next door.
A woman sat me down and read through a couple of papers that made sure we had health insurance etc, she then said to my surprise βYou really seem to love and care for Sarahβ I said βI really donβt deserve her, she is amazing. I lay down my life for herβ¦and give her my all. Iβm so blessed to share my life with my best friend, sheβs beautiful inside and out. Isnβt that what love is?β It seemed like sheβd never heard a response like that, and just said βWow, thatβs lovelyβ and went quiet for what seemed like minutes!Β
I was then able to see my lovely wife. Sarah was still not conscious yet but was in what seemed like a peaceful sleep. I sat down and the doctors and nurses were coming in and out, checking drips, machines and Sarahs breathing etc.Β

Sarah then moved and slowly started to come round, she said βOh noβ her usual response after realising where she is, i said βItβs ok my love, we are just making some nice new friends, just relax and enjoy being pamperedβ. After another hour of checks from nurses and the doctor, suddenly the nurse panicked and said something to the doctor. All 3 of them surrounded Sarahβs bed frantically adjusting and checking, The doctor kept shaking Sarah and shouting her name but got no response. I thought βIt canβt be another hypo as sheβs being monitored closely, so what is this?β Soon after i was told by the concerned doctor to wait in the waiting room next door.Β
The waiting room…

Now i was worriedβ¦. i sat here alone in a hospital thatβs swaying side to side in the middle of the atlantic ocean. My thoughts started to get the better of me..
βWhat if this is it, and i donβt get to speak to Sarah again”
βWhat if i never hear her amazing laugh, or feel the warmth of her hug again”
βWhat if iβm now on my own struggling to face the rest of life (never mind the holiday) without my lovely wife”
ENOUGH!! i thought and desperately gave it to God in prayer.
βOh Lord please help, if this is Sarahβs passing to paradise, then i want to say iβm not happy about it, and iβd like to spend more time with her on earth BUT thank you so much for blessing me with such a priceless gift, i canβt express how much i love her and iβve tried to be the husband you commanded me to be. Sarah has shown me such love, happiness, forgiveness, acceptance and a life i simply didnβt know was possible BUT if itβs not her time, please comfort her and bring her back to me, Amenβ.
A short while later the nurse said i could come back and sit with Sarah again. Sarah was awake and fighting with the oxygen mask. She said βWhereβve you been? I told them that my diabetes was unstable which is why i have the pump but they didnβt believe me, they never do, and now theyβve given me a second hypo after pumping me full of insulin againβ. I said while kissing her forehead βOh my lovely, iβm glad to have you backβ. πΒ
Weβd been in the hospital for about 2 hours, it was just coming to 3am. Sarah kept asking if i was alright and did i need anything. βI bet youβre hungry and need a coffeeβ βItβs ok, iβm enjoying being here with you, please get some sleep as youβve had a rough couple of days, iβll be right hereβ.Β
It was 6:30am when Sarah was allowed to leave. She was given more supplies to last for the rest of the holiday. Then the doctor explained about how fast acting insulin is absorbed into the body with the syringes, and how it differs and works a lot slower than the insulin pump. She said βOnce youβve had the injection, the insulin will not start to work for 1Β½ hours and it will be completely out of your system in 3 hours. And as you donβt have the pump giving you little bits all of the time, your blood sugar will rise on itβs own, so you need to give bigger (and overlapping) doses to compensate.
Sarah had never been instructed on any of this over the years because everything had ben controlled by the pump and i certainly didnβt know anything about insulin absorption, as with the pump it pretty much works straight away. We also wondered why she hadnβt explained this to us yesterday, which wouldβve helped.
We now headed back to the cabin to try and set up another plan of action, we knew this was going to be a difficult task, never mind adding things like food etc. lol π Β
Wow, what a night! Thatβs 2 nights without sleep already, and itβs time to set up the alarms for every 2 hours on my phone. Sleep is not going to come easy from now onβ¦is the coffee port open yet? Might as well have a nice coffee if iβm awake! π
Only 3 more days at sea (iβll merge into one post) until we reach Horta, Azores, where we can hopefully do some more excursions! πΒ

Goodbye Caribbeanβ¦hello massive ocean…
After another amazing day in the Caribbean(which was now about an hour away), we thought weβd try and relax with a spot of sunbathing. This meant trying the almost impossible task of finding not 1β¦but 2, empty sun loungers.

Fantastic! We found 2 together, no way. Butβ¦pretty much after placing our towels onto the sun loungers, Sarahβs βParadigmβ insulin pump started alarming!!
βThatβs not the usual alarmβ I said as Sarah was trying to read the tiny screen in the super bright sun. βI canβt quite make out what itβs saying, but itβs not something iβve seen before, i need to go back to the cabin and use the magnifierβ. The pump continued itβs piercing alarm all the way to the cabin!
Back in the cabin..
Once back, and using our video magnifier, the error message on the screen said “A button has been continually pressed for more than three minutes. to clear press ESC, then ACTβ.
Sarah said βThatβs weird, my pumpβs been nowhere near anything that would press the buttons, but it sounds easy enough, i can finally stop this annoying alarmβ. After hearing a few clicks, then a few more, the pump was still alarming. βItβs not workingβ βWhat do you mean, are the buttons not responding?β. βNo, it wonβt clear the error message, can you have a goβ. I tried, and still nothing except the error message and the alarm!
We both knew we didnβt have long as the pump has now stopped delivering insulin, as Sarah needs a continual small dose, as not only does Sarah have type 1, but a brittle form, and she is also slightly allergic to insulin!Β
After taking the battery out, waiting 10 minutes before replacing…the alarm and message were still there! After trying it again, I said βShould we take it to the doctors in the hospital on Deck 3?β βThey wonβt know anything about insulin pumps, itβs specialised equipment, which is why itβs carefully monitored, and finely tuned by the diabetic clinicβ. After a few more desperate tries to cancel the alarm, and running out of options, we had no choice, and headed down to deck 3.
The Hospital…
Reaching the bottom of the stairs to Deck 3, we were greeted with a couple of corridors and lots of doors. We could hear voices coming from an open door on the right, so we headed there. We found the doctor who was sounding very concerned whilst talking to a couple of very poorly sounding people, who had deep growly coughs. I said βLetβs wait out hereβ. A man dressed in a white suit approached us and asked if we were ok? After explaining what had happened, he looked at the pump, took it, and asked us to wait in the waiting room.
He returned with the doctor(a female with quite an aggressive manner), she explained that the pump was broken, and we needed to get a new one. But for now she needed to work out how much insulin Sarahβs body ran on. We said the pump gives a small amount of Humalog every 1-2 hours continuously, but all of the information is programmed in the pump that has now locked itself. This didnβt impress her! Between us, we had to try and calculate how much insulin Sarah took each day, by adding up the dosage at meal times, and adding a little more to compensate for the pumps continuous injections in the background.Β
After a couple more hours of stressful calculations, the doctor gave Sarah some old school syringes and told us to keep a record of insulin taken, time of insulin taken and food eaten etc. We returned to our cabin worried about how we were going to cope for the rest of the holiday, and did we have enough Humalog insulin in the fridge, as the hospital on-board didnβt use it, or stock it.
The Phone Call…
We went up to reception on Deck 8(lots of stairs, lol) Β to see if we could phone Medtronic(the makers of the insulin pump) as they are an American company, and would still be open. We couldnβt phone the UK diabetic clinic as they were 5 hours in front, and it would be about midnight!Β
After a long drawn out discussion with the receptionist, asking if there was a way to call out from a ship, as we have a medical disaster, as Sarah knows her body reacts badly to injections etc, and really does need the continued small amounts 24 hours a day. Β So we really needed to call Medtronic to see if there is any way of saving the pump! Eventually we managed to phone Medtronic, and after a Β£52 phone callβ¦he told us “the pump was broken!!β. Sarah has been on an insulin pump for about 15 years, and they have never broken. But 1 hour from Antigua, sailing at sea for 5 daysβ¦it breaks! π¦Β
Trying to relax…
As the realisation was setting in of trying to manage with injections, and Sarahβs blood sugar was still on the rise after the first injection. We were getting a little worried on how this was all going to play out. We decided to stay in the room and just figure out a game plan for the rest of the holiday. We then managed to figure out how to turn on the TV, i thought a film might help Sarah try and relax after the trauma of the day.Β
After a while when Sarah spoke again, i instantly knew we were in trouble! The slightly slurring sound of Sarahβs voice told me her blood sugar had suddenly shot down and it was very low! βOh no,β i said as i jumped into survival mode. Sarah was still conscious so i knew i had a little time. I went straight to the fridge and got the bottle of orange lucozade that usually works if Sarah is still able to drink.Β
After about 10 minutes Sarah was slipping away, so i ran to my bag and got the Gluco Gel and squirted it into Sarahs mouth. Gluco gel is fantastic and absorbs into gums etc, and after a while(a nervous while) Sarah was back with us. βPhewβ i said as relief was pulling me out of survival mode. Sarah said βIβve had a hypo havnβt i?! These injections really arenβt going to work, my body just goes erratic and messes upβ.Β
After a sleepless night of trying to stabilise a yo-yoing blood sugar, we were not really enjoying our first day at sea. But we decided to go and have a nice strong coffee at our fave place, as weβve probably got another sleepless night tonight too. I said βItβs hard to imagine that not even a day ago we were riding on horseback across that beautiful beachβ. πΒ
Sarah has to check her blood sugar every 2 hours, day and night, for the rest of the holiday, as without the pumps continuous feed, we are left with just fast acting insulin, and lots of prayers.
This is becoming quite an adventure!!!Β

Christ’s sympathy!
Christ’s sympathy!

“Jesus wept!”Β John 11:35Β
The Creator of all worlds, the Author of all beings, the Upholder of the universe–raining tears of human woe and sympathy upon a grave!Β
Oh, there lives not a being in the universe who can enter into our bereavements with the sympathy, the support, and the soothing of Christ!Β
They wereΒ tears of sympathy. His heart was touched, deeply touched, with sympathy for the sorrow of others. He wept because the mourning sisters wept. He mingled His tears with theirs.Β
This is true sympathy,Β “weeping with those who weep,”Β making their sorrow our own. How really our Lord does this with His people. So completely is He our Surety–that He takes our sins and infirmities, our trials and sorrows upon Himself, as if they were all and entirely His own. Our sins were so completely laid upon Him–that not one remains charged to the account of those who believe in Jesus.Β
Our present griefs are so entirely absorbed in Him, that,Β

the rod of a Father’s chastening, buds and blossoms into delectable fruit.Β
Bereaved mourner, the sympathy of Christ is yours! The same Savior who wept at the grave of Bethany, now shares your grief. Do not imagine that your sorrow is isolated, or that your tears are forbidden or unseen. You have a merciful and faithful High Priest who is touched with your present calamity.Β
There exists no sympathy . . .Β Β
Β so real,Β
Β so perceptive,Β
Β so deep,Β
Β so tender,Β
Β so sanctifying–Β
asΒ Christ’s sympathy.Β
If your heavenly Father has seen it wise and good to remove from you theΒ spring of human pity–it is but that He may draw you closer beneath the wing of Jesus’ compassion, presence and love.Β
O child of sorrow, will not this suffice, that you possess Christ’s sympathy–as immeasurable and exhaustless as the ocean–as exquisite and changeless as His being! Yield your heart to His rich compassion!Β
Will Jesus be regardless of what I feel, and the sorrows under which I groan? Oh no! TheΒ sighΒ that bursts in secret from my heart is not secret to Him; theΒ tearΒ that is my food day and night and dropsΒ unperceived and unknown–is known and remembered by Him!Β
“Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses!” Hebrews 4:14-15Β
“You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in Your bottle. You have recorded each one in Your book.”Β Psalm 56:8
Growing in grace
Growing in grace
(Thomas Moor, “Counsels and Thoughts for the Spiritual Life of Believers” 1882)
Remember that among your chief thoughts of the Lord Jesus, one must ever have a prominent place: that He is ever looking down upon you and watching you with tenderest love, and ordering all things for your good.Β
Sometimes it is spiritualΒ medicine, at other times it is spiritualΒ nourishment–but at all times it is spiritual good, and just what is best for you. He sees and knows just what is best for each day and hour. So, always when you think of Him, think of Him as thus looking down upon you and ever caring for you.
The Holy Spirit is ever leading us toΒ thinkΒ of Christ and toΒ liveΒ for Christ and continually toΒ lookΒ to Christ.
The natural mind makesΒ selfΒ the center, and self the end.Β
The spiritual mind makesΒ ChristΒ the center, and Christ the end.Β
The more we seek Christ, and the less we seek self–the more we please Him.
Christ is the source and end both ofΒ graceΒ on earth andΒ gloryΒ in Heaven.Β
Grace in the heart, is glory in its beginnings.Β
Glory in Heaven, is grace in its full consummation.Β
Growing in graceΒ is living more upon Christ, and living more for Christ, and growing more like Christ.
To learn of Christ and live upon Christ, is the highest experience of the soul here or hereafter!
π Precious Proverbs: Vomit

Proverbs 26:11Β (ESV)
Like a dog that returns to his vomit is a fool who repeats his folly.
My Thoughts πΒ
Wow, what an amazing word picture! Some of these proverbs just stick in your mind and heart (especially if youβve had a dog.) Itβs just so accurate and so full of His Wisdom that you canβt help but fall on your knees and ask once again for forgiveness.
Β π Prayer 4 2day!Β
Loving Saviour, i donβt deserve the smallest of your mercies, and yet you continue to love, sustain and bless me in immeasurable ways!
Your love is blind to all of my faults, and ugly sides. I pray that You would work through me to love others compassionately and patiently. Amen.
Bring nothing but your sins and miseries!
Bring nothing but your sins and miseries!
(Thomas Wilcox)
“What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ–the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith.” Philippians 3:8-9Β
When you come to Christ–you must leave behind you:
Β all your own righteousness,
Β all your own holiness,Β
Β all your own sanctification,
Β all your own duties,Β
Β all your own tears,Β
Β all your own repentings, etc.Β
Oh, this is hard!Β
You mustΒ bring nothing but your sins and miseriesΒ to Him. Otherwise, Christ is not fit for you–nor you for Christ!
π Precious Proverbs: The Unreliable Person

Proverbs 25:19Β (NLT)
Putting confidence in an unreliable person in times of trouble is like chewing with a broken tooth or walking on a lame foot.
My Thoughts πΒ
Ouch! We all know how much it hurts when we fail to put our trust in faithful brothers and sisters in Christ, it can really hurt us.
Β π Prayer 4 2day!Β
Holy Father, forgive us when weβve been the unreliable friend, help us to walk in your Spirit and show your steadfast love to others, in Jesus name, amen.
In everything give thanks!
In everything give thanks!
(Thomas Watson, “All Things for Good”)
“We know that God causesΒ everythingΒ to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28
See what cause the saints have to be frequent in the work ofΒ thanksgiving!Β In this, Christians are defective; though they are much inΒ supplication–yet they are little inΒ thanksgiving. The apostle says. “In everything give thanks!“Β 1 Thessalonians 5:18Β
Why so?Β Because God makes everything work together for our good.Β
We thank theΒ physician, though he gives us a bitter medicine which makes us nauseated–because it is to make us well. We thank any man who does us a good turn; and shall we not be thankful to God–who makesΒ everythingΒ work for good to us?
God loves a thankful Christian!Β Job thanked GodΒ when He took all away:Β “The Lord has taken away–blessed be the name of the Lord!” Job 1:21. Many will thank God when HeΒ gives; Job thanks Him when HeΒ takes away, because he knew that God would work good out of it.
We read of saints withΒ harpsΒ in their hands–an emblem of praise. Revelation 14:2. Yet we meet many Christians who haveΒ tearsΒ in their eyes, andΒ complaintsΒ in their mouths! But there are few with their harps in their hands–whoΒ praise God in affliction.
To beΒ thankful in affliction–is a work peculiar to a saint.Β
Every bird can sing in spring–but few birds will sing in the dead of winter!Β
Everyone, almost, can be thankful inΒ prosperity–but a true saint can be thankful inΒ adversity!Β
Well may we, in theΒ worstΒ that befalls us, have a psalm of thankfulness–because God works all things together for our good.Β Oh, be much in giving thanks to God!

And did the Holy and the Just,
The Sovereign of the skies,
Stoop down to wretchedness and dust,
That guilty worms might rise?Yes, the Redeemer left His throne,
His radiant throne on high,

To suffer, bleed, and die!He took the dying traitor’s place,
And suffered in his stead;
ForΒ manΒ (O miracle of grace!)
ForΒ man, the Savior bled!Dear Lord, what heavenly wonders dwell
In Your atoning blood!
By this are sinners snatched from Hell,Β
And rebels brought to God!What glad return can I impart
For favors so divine?
O take my all, this worthless heart,
And make it wholly Thine!

π Precious Proverbs: A Fool

Proverbs 23:9Β (ESV)
Do not speak in the hearing of a fool, for he will despise the good sense of your words.
π Prayer 4 2day!Β
Oh be merciful to me a sinner!Β
π Precious Proverbs: Tongue

Proverbs 21:23Β (ESV)
Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble.
My Thoughts πΒ
Wow, i know all about this one. Who can tame the tongue?! Oh help us Jesus, Amen! Β ππ»
π Precious Proverbs: Not Wise

Proverbs 20:1Β (ESV)
Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, and whoever is led astray by it is not wise.
My Thoughts πΒ
Living in England(and probably your country too?), you grow up learning that drinking alcohol isnβt just a pasttime, itβs a national sport and essential to be cool. How deceitful is sin and the world?!Β
One of my fave quotes is: “I would not put a thief in my mouth to steal my brains.β β William Shakespeare
Letβs thank God today for his Truth and Wisdom that never changesβ¦It changes us! πΒ
Oh, comforting truth!
Oh, comforting truth!
“TheΒ LORDΒ has heard my cry for mercy;Β theΒ LORDΒ accepts my prayer.”Β Psalm 6:9Β
“You hear, O LORD, the desire of the afflicted” Psalm 10:17
“This poor man called, and the LORD heard him; He saved him out of all his troubles” Psalm 34:6
“The righteous cry out, and theΒ LORDΒ hears them; He delivers them from all their troubles”Β Psalm 34:17Β
Β Β
“Evening, morning and noonΒ I cry out in distress, and He hears my voice”Β Psalm 55:17Β
“God has surely listenedΒ and heard my voice in prayer”Β Psalm 66:19Β
“I love theΒ LORD, for He heard my voice; He heard my cry for mercy”Β Psalm 116:1Β
“I call on theΒ LORDΒ in my distress,Β and He answers me”Β Psalm 120:1Β
“He fulfills the desires of those who fear Him;Β He hears their cry and saves them.”Β Psalm 145:19Β
“The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous,Β and His ears are attentive to their prayer”Β 1 Peter 3:12Β
Christian! God is near at hand whenever you approach Him in prayer.Β
Oh, comforting truth!Β You have a God at hand . . .
Β to listen to the softest breath of prayer,
Β to listen to every confession of sin,
Β to listen to every cry of need,
Β to listen to every utterance of sorrow,
Β to listen to every wail of woe,
Β to listen to every appeal for counsel, strength and support!
Arise, O my soul! and give yourself to prayer, for God is near at hand to hear and answer you!
“Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” Hebrews 4:16
When a tear is wept by you–do not think that God does not behold it
When a tear is wept by you–do not think that God does not behold it
(Charles Spurgeon)
“The LORD said:
Β I have indeedΒ seenΒ the misery of My people in Egypt.
Β I haveΒ heardΒ them crying out because of their slave drivers,
Β and I amΒ concernedΒ about their suffering.
Β So I have come down toΒ rescueΒ them . . .” Exodus 3:7, 8
Perhaps no figure of speech represents God in a more gracious light, than when He is spoken of as stooping from His throne and coming down from Heaven to attend to the wants and woes of His redeemed people.Β
How can we but love Him, when we know that He . . .
Β numbers the very hairs of our heads,
Β marks all our paths, and
Β orders all our ways?
When a tear is wept by you–do not think that God does not behold it, for . . .
“You keepΒ trackΒ of all my sorrows.
Β You haveΒ collectedΒ all my tears in Your bottle.
Β You haveΒ recordedΒ each one in Your book.” Psalm 56:8Β
Your sigh is able to move the heart of Jehovah,Β
your whisper can incline His ear unto you,Β
your prayer can stay His hand,Β
your faith can move His arm!
Do not think that God sits on high taking no account of you. For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is perfect toward Him.
ππ» We Come Together!

We come on our own, we come together.Β We come with our excitement and with our lack of expectation.Β
We come with our lamps burning brightly and with our lamps hidden.Β
We come with our longing and with our pride.Β
We come with our words and with our silence.Β
We come with our music and with our resentments.
We come to you, God of truth, with our hands openΒ
and ask that you reach out to us afresh.
Lord forgive our hardness of heart
Forgive us for those times when we think we can do it without you
Forgive us for our coldness towards you and others
Melt the ice of our coldness and breathe your new life into us
Generous God,
we thank you that a small amount of saltΒ
can season a whole meal;
a small candle can light a whole room,
a small act of kindness inspire a whole life,
a small community transform a whole city,
a small prayer bring near a whole kingdom.
We thank you, Lord, we thank you.
Please show me the areas of my life which have become flavourless?!
Show me in what ways can I be salt in my world?
We pray, gracious God, for your Church throughout the world, for your Church in this nation, in this place, that we would be light bearers and truth bearers.Β May we shed the light of encouragement where there is disappointment;Β the light of integrity where there is corruption;Β the light of clarity where there is uncertainty;Β the light of challenge where there is complacency;Β the light of acceptance where there is rejection.Β And may we always walk and pray and serve in the light of humility and in the strength of your name, that others may see you in us and give you the glory.
We pray in Jesusβ name.
Amen.
May you be as salt where there is staleness;
light where there is darkness;Β
truth where there is unbeliefΒ
and love where there is great need.Β
And may you know the blessing of God the Father,
Son and Holy Spirit,Β
close to you each moment and each day.
β’οΈ How Are You All?

Hi friends!
We just wanted to send you a quick message to ask how youβre all doing during this challenging time?
Donβt forget we have a reason to sing with gratitude to the Lord every time we wake up to a new day filled with grace and mercy. Many times we forget to express our gratefulness in these busy, crazy and painful times. However, we can sing songs of thankfulness for Godβs goodness and make a joyful noise as the true Spiritual church.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Colossians 3:16 (ESV)
I do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins. (Colossians 1:9-14)
Stay safe and keep singing to the Lord! πΆπβ₯οΈ

You must be born again!
You must be born again!
(Don Fortner)
“You must be born again!” John 3:7
In order for God to save a sinner two things must be done:Β
God must do something FOR you, and God must do something IN you.
Β RedemptionΒ is the work of God FOR sinners.Β
Β RegenerationΒ is the work of God IN sinners.Β
Both are the works of God. Man has nothing more to do with regeneration, than he has to do with redemption.
“You must be born again” because by nature we are fallen, sinful, depraved children of human flesh. All flesh is defiled. All flesh is corrupt. All flesh is sinful. All flesh is condemned. All flesh must die. Unless we are born of the Spirit, we will die in our sins, and our fleshΒ shall be justly damned.
“You must be born again!”Β
You can reform your life without the new birth.Β
You can be baptized without the new birth.Β
You can join the church, be zealous in religion, teach a Bible class, serve as a deacon or elder; you can even preach with great success without being born again.Β
“You must be born again” for without the new birth . . .
Β you will never enter the kingdom of God,Β
Β you will never be a part of the family of God,Β
Β you will never have eternal life,Β
Β you will never be admitted into the presence of God’s glory in the bliss of Heaven.Β
Only new creatures will enter the New Jerusalem.Β
Only holy men will walk into the Holy City.Β
Only Heaven born citizens will possess the bliss of Heaven.
To be born again is to be made new creatures in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17).Β
In the new birth, God the Holy Spirit gives chosen, redeemed sinners . . .
Β a newΒ heartΒ to love God,
Β a newΒ willΒ to bow to the rule of Christ,
Β a newΒ mindΒ to understand the things of God,
Β a new spiritualΒ natureΒ to know, enjoy, and live upon spiritual things,
Β newΒ eyes, eyes of faith, with which to see Christ,
Β newΒ earsΒ with which to hear His voice,
Β newΒ hands, hands of faith, with which to lay hold of Christ and do His will,
Β newΒ feet, with which to flee to Christ and walk with Him in the newness of life.
John 3:3, “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again!”Β

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (ESV)
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

π Bible Verse…
Ephesians 5:25Β (ESV)Β

π€ My Thoughts…Β

Put On The Whole Armour Of God
Β π Verse 4 2dayΒ ~ Ephesians 6:10-18
Β The Armour of GodΒ
Finally, be strong in the LordΒ and in his mighty power.Β Put on the full armor of God,Β so that you can take your stand against the devilβs schemes.Β For our struggle is not against flesh and blood,Β but against the rulers, against the authorities,Β against the powersΒ of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.Β Therefore put on the full armor of God,Β so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.Β Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist,Β with the breastplate of righteousness in place,Β and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.Β In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith,Β with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.Β Take the helmet of salvationΒ and the sword of the Spirit,Β which is the word of God.
And pray in the SpiritΒ on all occasionsΒ with all kinds of prayers and requests.Β With this in mind, be alert and always keep on prayingΒ for all the Lordβs people.
Each morning I like to pray the armour of God prayer to ask God to equip me for the day. When not in prayer, and when I hear the words armour of God my mind shoots back to the image above, which is Power Armour) from the Playstation 3 game Fallout 3.ΒIΒ know that video games get a lot of negative abuse, butΒ IΒ would just like to share this with you. No i’m not losing sight of reality, please bear with me. π
My point……Β
Β For us to stand any chance ofΒ survivingΒ against the devil’s schemes,Β powersΒ of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms, we MUST choose to put on the spiritual armour. Unlike the game we know the location of this armour is in prayer.Β
Readyβ¦..Aim..β¦Pray!
Β IΒ urge you to pray on the Armour of God Ephesians 6 (as listed above). Take a moment and carefully consider the power, purpose and reality of each piece as you put it on.
π Prayer 4 2day!Β
“Lord, please help me this day put on the Full Armour of God.
Help me put the Helmet of Salvation on my head that I might always remember I am saved, and who I belong to, that my mind is guarded in Christ Jesus, and that I may have the mind of Christ and that I may think the thoughts of Christ and reject all others.
Help me put the Breastplate of Righteousness on so that I may walk about in Righteousness and others may see your Righteousness in me, and that my heart is guarded in Christ Jesus, and that I may have the desires of Christ and reject all others.
Help me keep the Belt of Truth securely buckled on my waist, that I may always be secure in the knowledge of the Truth and always speak the Truth in Love.
Help me fit my Feet with the Readiness that comes from the Gospel of Peace, that I may stand firm in the Gospel, and spread the Gospel of Peace wherever I go.
Help hold the Shield of Faith with which to extinguish the flaming arrows of the evil one, strengthen my arm and help me hold it high, that I may use it to protect myself, my family, my household and those under my care, and help me use the Shield of Faith to press ahead and push forward for the kingdom of God.
And Lord, help me take up the Sword of The Spirit which is the Word of God, and use it every day, help me use it to protect myself and others from the evil one through the power and authority of Your Word, and to strike the hearts and minds of those who do not know You calling them towards repentance and salvation, help me use Your Word – the Sword of the Spirit – to cause those who know you but are backslidden to repentance, obedience and service, and to help awaken those who know you, but are asleep so they may obey and serve you, and please help me use your Word to bring, encouragement, strength and wisdom to the Remnant of God through your Word.
Help me serve you this and every day. Please use me Lord. These things I ask in the Name of Jesus Christ.
Amenβ.
The panacea for all the ills of life!
The panacea for all the ills of life!
(James Smith, “The Spirit’s Work in the Believer” 1861)
“The mind of sinful man is death, butΒ the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace.” Romans 8:6
Spirituality flows from the gracious operations of the Holy Spirit in the soul, who . . .
Β kindles spiritualΒ love,Β
Β awakens spiritualΒ desires, andΒ
Β produces spiritualΒ devotion.Β
The Spirit’s work in the believerΒ consists:
1. In convincing us ofΒ sin, when we go astray from the right ways of the Lord.
2. In workingΒ repentanceΒ within us, and leading us to confess and mourn over our sins before God.
3. In opening up, and applying theΒ Word of God, so that it . . .
Β meets our case,
Β feeds our faith,
Β fires our love, and
Β deepens our humility.
4. In exciting and drawing forth the soul inΒ prayer, praise, and adoration at the throne of God–so that we sometimes . . .
Β melt in contrition,
Β are crumbled down in humiliation,
Β and are almost dissolved in love.
5. In giving us soul-refreshingΒ glimpsesΒ . . .
Β of the glorious person of Jesus,
Β of the everlasting covenant,
Β and of eternal glory.
6. In melting us down in sincereΒ gratitudeΒ before God, under a sense of His undeserved favor.
7. In removing all legal fears, and causingΒ holy peaceΒ to flow through the soul like a river.
8. In melting us inΒ meekness, and producingΒ sweet submissionΒ to the sovereign will of God.
9. In sweetly soothing andΒ consolingΒ under trials and bereavements; and enabling us to look heavenward with hope and joy.
10. In giving us sweet intimations of theΒ loveΒ of God to us, by holy discoveries of His grace.
11. In witnessing to ourΒ adoption, awakening the cry ofΒ “Abba, Father!”Β in our hearts, and enabling us to claim a filial relationship to God.
12. In drawing forth our souls inΒ love to God–under an overcoming sense of His free and unparalleled love to us.
13. In enabling us toΒ mount upwardΒ as on the wings of an eagle, and toΒ runΒ with pleasure and delight in God’s holy ways.
15. In quickening us toΒ rejoiceΒ in the Lord, when all things around are calculated to fill us with despondency and gloom.
16. In producingΒ perseveranceΒ in our souls, and enabling us to look away from the things which are seen and temporal–and to look to unseen and eternal realities.
The Spirit works within the Christian, teaching him daily toΒ make use of ChristΒ asΒ the panacea for all the ills of life!
In all these things, and many more–the work of the Spirit in the experience of the believer appears.
Reader, doΒ youΒ know anything of these things in your own experience?Β
Is the Spirit daily working inΒ yourΒ heart, and do you pay attention to . . .
Β theΒ lessonsΒ He teaches,
Β theΒ impressionsΒ He makes, and
Β theΒ directionΒ in which He points?
O for more of the Spirit’s work within us–that we may live to the praise and glory of Him who loved us, and died to redeem us from sin, death and Hell!
Holy Spirit, work in us more and more–teaching us Your truth, and conforming us to Christ! O for more of Your power, love, and holiness!
β€οΈLove At First Sight…Village – 15 Years On!!!
Β This week iβm celebrating 15 years since i met my lovely wife Sarah at βSight Village, Birmingham, UKβΒ
This is a major Sight Village show in Birmingham which is held in July each year. Exhibitors throughout the world take part and welcome many thousands of visitors, including people who are blind or partially sighted, professionals, business people and family members.
I was there (from Derby) working for a charity called LOOK and Sarah was there (from Surrey) working for RNIB. She came to my table as she had a magazine which she had just published an article about LOOK and wanted to show me. Sarah opened the magazine and said here are the pictures and the article, i said βWow, fantastic, it all looks greatβ which made Sarah quite proud of her work. I then said while laughing βyou know i didnβt see any of what youβve just shown me, as iβm blind!β. Then as always, a brief pause as Sarah checks out my eyes to see if iβm joking, then Sarah laughed and said βNo way, me too!β. We both approach blindness in a similar way and love blossomed from that point. π

Sarah & I Visit Westminster Chapel

β§ Me stood in front of Westminster Chapel β§Β
A few days ago Sarah & i finally got to visit Westminster Chapel. Iβve always wanted to visit since i first heard Dr Martyn Lloyd Jones preach via podcast and now on the MLJ Sermons iPhone app. As i listen to one of his sermons every night(there are around 1600 on the app) iβd always wanted to go and see.
Β The Chapel was closed but Sarah and i had a lovely Cappuccino in the Royal Quarters Cafe directly over the road.
Since iβm posting, I thought iβd add last nights sermon as i go through Ephesians(see Youtube video below) as it not only convicts and moves meβ¦.It also edifies and builds me up. Itβs solid meat and a huge feast every time as he never fails to feed the sheep.
My coward heart!
My coward heart!
(A.W. Tozer)
Father, I want to know You–butΒ my coward heartΒ fears to give up its toys. I cannot part with them without inward bleeding, and I do not try to hide from You the terror of the parting. I come trembling, but I do come. Please root from my heart all those things which I have cherished so long and which have become a very part of my self–so that You may reign there without a rival. Deliver me fromΒ the tyranny of things–and from the idols of my heart. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
π The Glorious Incarnation #1 ~ Your Gift
π The Glorious Incarnation #1
Heavenly Father,Β We think we are ready for Christmas β¦Not because we have read the pages of the Bible, but because we have read our credit card statements,Β And they say that we have left no stone unturned, and no gift unbought, if still unpaid for.Β We stand ready to stagger under the weight of Christmas,Β To eat and drink far too much,Β To party with the best of them,Β And to worry all the time that weβve forgotten something.Β And weβll do it all, not always because we want to, but because everyone else is doing it, and weβll go along for the ride.
Somewhere in all of this, Father, please feel free to stop us.Β Any place, any time, just stop us in our tracks.Β Stop us, grab our attention, and then place your gift in our hands where we can see it,Β And in our hearts where we can feel it.Β The gift of knowing that, a little over two thousand years ago, you stepped into the history of this world and placed yourself in a manger in a dirty backstreet stable,Β And called yourself a Christ-Child. It was then that we could see you and understand you as we had never been able to do before: As Creator, as Spirit, and as a man who would walk unerringly towards a Cross.
Everything else, all the food, the fun, the partying, none of it matters, and none of it has any point at all, unless we grasp this simple, beautiful gift and press it close to our hearts and keep it thereβ¦..β¦.. that we live with you, that we are one with you, Our Lord Immanuel.
What else is there to say?
Except thank you, Amen.
πPrayer: Christ The Saviour

Jesus, please help me this Christmas, as i remember you asΒ the baby in a manger. Not to see you as just a pleasant picture that conjures up nostalgic and happy thoughts for me. But to be the picture of the incredible news that was proclaimed by the angels to the shepherds…
Thank you so much for making this unfathomable Good news, thatΒ “Christ the Saviour was born!β and you made it possible for someone like me to be born again. You were as much the Saviour of the world in that manger as you were on that cross.
Thank you for loving me so much, that youβd purposely lay your glory aside to enter your own creation, to save someone like me from my sins, and the punishment of those sins, providing the way of escape from death itself!
Thank you Jesus, Amen.
π Christmas Prayer

Heavenly Father, We think we are ready for Christmas β¦Not because we have read the pages of the Bible, but because we have read our credit card statements, And they say that we have left no stone unturned, and no gift unbought, if still unpaid for. We stand ready to stagger under the weight of Christmas, To eat and drink far too much, To party with the best of them, And to worry all the time that weβve forgotten something. And weβll do it all, not always because we want to, but because everyone else is doing it, and weβll go along for the ride.
Somewhere in all of this, Father, please feel free to stop us. Any place, any time, just stop us in our tracks. Stop us, grab our attention, and then place your gift in our hands where we can see it, And in our hearts where we can feel it. The gift of knowing that, a little over two thousand years ago, you stepped into the history of this world and placed yourself in a manger in a dirty backstreet stable, And called yourself a Christ-Child.
Love At First Sight Village! (10 Years On!!!)
Β Today iβm celebrating 10 years since i met my lovely wife Sarah at βSight Village, BirminghamβΒ
This is a major Sight Village show in Birmingham which is held in July each year. Exhibitors from throughout the world take part and they welcome many thousands of visitors, including people who are blind or partially sighted, professionals, business people and family members.
We both approach blindness in a similar way and love blossomed from that point. π

Ephesians 5:25Β Easy-to-Read Version
Husbands, love your wives the same as Christ loved the church and gave his life for it.
My ThoughtsΒ π
This is one of my favourite Bible verses that i try desperately Β each day to live up to. As soon as i first read this verse it convicted me straight away and i knew i wanted to be a husband like that!
π Prayer
Spirit, thanks for being a constant guiding presence in my life. Give me the faith to take practical and radical action to keep in step with You, so that You can love my spouse through me in a way that will sustain a fun, loving & trusting relationship. Amen.
Salt & Light
We come on our own, we come together.Β We come with our excitement and with our lack of expectation.
We come with our lamps burning brightly and with our lamps hidden.
We come with our longing and with our pride.
We come with our words and with our silence.
We come with our music and with our resentments.
We come to you, God of truth, with our hands open
and ask that you reach out to us afresh.
Lord forgive our hardness of heart
Forgive us for those times when we think we can do it without you
Forgive us for our coldness towards you and others
Melt the ice of our coldness and breathe your new life into us
Generous God,
we thank you that a small amount of salt
can season a whole meal;
a small candle can light a whole room,
a small act of kindness inspire a whole life,
a small community transform a whole city,
a small prayer bring near a whole kingdom.
Amen.
May you be as salt where there is staleness;
light where there is darkness;
truth where there is unbelief
and love where there is great need.
And may you know the blessing of God the Father,
Son and Holy Spirit,
close to you each moment and each day.
