6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!Β Praise the Lord!

Job 12:7-10 (ESV)Β
βBut ask the beasts, and they will teach you; the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you; or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you; and the fish of the sea will declare to you. Who among all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind.
This is another photo taken on our day trip to Chessington world of adventures a few years ago. The crazy thing isβ¦I had no idea that this Tiger(or any of the creatures in my recent posts) were looking at me until i returned home and zoomed in on the photos whilst viewing them on my iMac, lol! πΒ

This is a photo taken on our day trip to London Zoo a few years ago. I just love how this little dude seems to be smilingβ¦So i just had to put this bible verse with it.
Hope he puts a smile on your face too during this challenging time?!Β πΒ

Hi friends. As it is 20 years to the day since i went blindβ¦I thought iβd share one of my older posts(yet updated) from 4 years ago when i was asked to share a little of what i went through when i lost my sight at 24.
I really hope that youβll have the time to read it, and that it blesses you in some small way?!Β
Here Goes…
I was asked by our Minister Nik if i would share my Testimony in the parade service. The theme was βFaith through Adversityβ, Nik said “i can ask you some straight forward questions, it will only take about 5 minutes(or so we thought)β βYeah, ok, if you think it will help?β.
Sunday 8th May 2016…
Walking into the church building Sunday morning, it was quite full, as it was parade service, the scouts and other uniformed groups were there, but Nik found us seats at the front, then showed me up the steps and where iβd stand to speak, after testing the microphone i remembered the steps and sat back down.Β
As iβm blind, i canβt use any notes, so i spent a little time trying to etch some answer headings into my mind, hoping iβd not veer too far off track. I then prayed that iβd use this time to Glorify Him, as i talked about the Truth that sets us free, and how iβm not ashamed of the Gospel, itβs the power of God unto Salvation to all who believe…please make it real(be careful praying this, lol).
It;s time…
Steve, we are looking at people who have showed faith in difficult circumstances and I have asked you to share some of your story with us.
Many people here, even those who have seen you around at various church events may not know that you are blind.
My Testimony…
Nik stood next to me at the microphone and started with the first 2 questions:
Have you always been blind? How and when did you loose your sight?
I explained iβd been fully sighted until i was 24, and after 2 brain haemorrhages(March – July 2000) that burst my optic nerve, iβm now registered blind and have Severe Hypertensive Retinopathy.
“How did that change your life?”
I said βI can only scratch the surface this morning, but if ever you see me walking around here or in town, please ask me anything. But now i’ll try and sketch you a quick picture and give you a flavour of what happened⦔
βI went to the gym 6-7 days a week, played football most evenings and was quite violent, acting the tough guy. Β I wasnβt a Christian, i hadnβt been born again, or even been inside a church buildingβ¦soβ¦As i stepped out of the eye consultants office after being told iβd be blind for the rest of my life, it was out of character but i collapsed on the floor sobbingg my eyes out. And as my crying out got a little too loud they pulled me into a small empty roomβ¦.And this was the easy bitβ.
βFollowing this was pure isolation… all my football mates left me, i lost my job, my car and ability to do anything…i lost everything, i was completely broken, and on top of that i was left to my acusing thoughts βNobody wants you, youβre useless now, unwanted, rejected, unloved and unlovable!!β
Suddenly, as i was telling my story…
My mouth was silenced, an image of Jesus in Glory(Revelation 1) filled my mind, it wasΒ so clear(not blurred by my blindness)Β I could see His flaming eyes of judgmentβ¦thenβ¦the image changed, it was Jesus on the cross, now His eyes were filled with Mercy, Compassion & Grace, and while looking down straight at me he said βI did this for you, so that you can live. Iβ¦LOVEβ¦YOU!!!
I started sobbing uncontrollably, and it took a couple of minutes for me to try and start talking againβ¦.but more sobbingβ¦i was completely undone. But these tears were different!
I already knew He’d given His life so i could live. He’d come down so farΒ to save me it is immeasurable. His blood washed me clean, white as snow. He’s forgiven me all my sins, past, present and future, and there is no more condemnation for me, it is finished!
Iβd been Β praying for so long for God to βBreak my heart for what broke Hisβ and sang the songs many times, but rarely had i caught a glimpse of the true cost of His Love, and His free gift of Grace to those who Repent and Believe in Him. I knew He wanted me to share the True Gospel to people listening(and now reading), as it alone is the only Hope. It is the Power of God unto Salvation for anyone that believes.
Still sobbing, i continued…
My every word was a different pitch but i said βMy pit was so dark, my accusing thoughts were too heavy, and this led to a daily cycle of waking up and trying to kill myselfβ¦failing, which made me feel worseβ¦then drinking so much i could drown them out for the rest of the day, until i woke the next day, then it started again.Β
I didnβt have the strength to kill myself, and i didnβt have the strength to live…i was without God, and without Hope!
Nik, whoβs hand was rested on my shoulder asked question 4 “I know you were deeply unhappy at the time, what changed that?”
The world followed itβs pattern and sent me to Counselling, then Psychotherapy & finally Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, they didnβt work, they all had no answer for me, they couldnβt reach far enough down to pull me out. I needed a Saviour, I needed the light of the Gospel!Β
The Good News &Β Lovely Sarah…
Meeting Sarah changed my life! I have no idea how sheβs put up with me. Sheβs Β been so patient and long suffering as i tried attacking her Faith and this Jesus! But she kept on loving me. Sarah always seemed to have a rock to stand on no matter how bad things got for her, and i was being dragged deeper into the sinking sand. She always had this Blessed Hope that i didnβt,
Jesus worked through Sarah to shine the light of the Gospel, the Good News i was dying for.Β
Words failed me as i was trying to describe how much i love Sarah, so when my mind filled with thoughts of how far weβve grown together in loveβ¦i broke down again.Β
The sobbing was still making me pause every few words, but mentioned Jesus doesnβt want to see anyone perish, but he pursues you, He has come to seek and save that which is lost. He loves you and no matter how bad or hopeless you think you are, Heβll keep coming with His free gift of Salvation!
Nik asked Question 5 “some people would say that your life must be worse now, would you agree with them?”
Iβd gone way over my time slot, and i was almost pulled away from the mic as i was so overwhelmedβ¦BUT i knew these tears were not about me, or my losses. I had 1 focus and that was to share the Truth that sets us free. I had no feeling of sorrow or pain. I knew it must have seemed like this to the congregation, and i thought theyβd stick me in a counselling room when iβd finished!
The Holy Spirit was filling me like never before, and made the Power of the Gospel so real to me i almost exploded.
I continued βI wouldnβt agree with anyone who thinks(or measures) life by how good our circumstances are. Iβd lead them to 2 Corinthians 4 & 5 where it talks about living by Faith, not by Sight, and now that we are born again in the Spirit, we should walk by the Spirit. Not living for things that are seen which are temporary(like my sight loss), but living for the unseen which is Eternalβ
βI used to hate this song, but now iβd play it every service if i couldβ¦have you heard Amazing Grace, the Chris Tomlin version? If you pass me in the street youβll normally hear me singing or humming these words:”
“Amazing grace how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me.Β I once was lost, but now I’m found, was blind, but now I see. My chains are gone I’ve been set free. My God, my Saviour has ransomed me. And like a flood His mercy reigns. Unending love, amazing graceβ.
βIβve never seen so clearly since going blindβ This is one of my fave sayings.Β πΒ
Nik then walked me back to my seat next to Sarah. The church was completely silent, it had been silent since i first started sobbing. I could feel Sarah was upset as she didnβt react for a while, then she said βPeople kept on running up and passing me tissuesβ. Nik sat down next to Sarah, and Sarah said βYouβre not borrowing him again to speakβ.Β
After the service people came over and said they really connected with the things i said, although i think everyone thinks iβm back in dark depression again, lol.
He showed me the reality and Power of transformation in His Gospel, and how vital it is to share it, as Jesus is the Β Way, the Truth and the Life and no-one gets to Β the Father but by Him. Heβs the forgiver of Sins, breaker of chains, and the only Salvation for Eternal Life in Heaven.
John 3:14-21Β New King James Version (NKJV)
14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in Him should not perish but[a] have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
18 βHe who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. 21 But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.β
I felt i needed to share this post to try and explain a little more of what was happening to me, and maybe reach out to someone who is struggling with the creeping death called Depression,or who is just simply lost and without God, and without Hope.
Wow, i canβt believe itβs been 7 years since i posted this! I thought iβd repost as i think it could be interesting to the many more fantastic people who have followed this blog in the last 7 years. πΒ
A curious blogger asked me a fantastic question “Do you have a support worker or a friend to read these posts & comments to you? Or is there some other way?”
As my sight is too poor to read print, i use the built in synthetic voices on my iMac to read aloud every post, comment, scripture, quote & prayers. I made a short video so you can hear some of the different voices and get a little insight of how technology can be used to help blind people stay connected and share fellowship with you great people!
Please comment below with any thoughts and questionsβ¦Iβd love to answer them, no matter how random! πΒ

We come on our own, we come together.Β We come with our excitement and with our lack of expectation.Β
We come with our lamps burning brightly and with our lamps hidden.Β
We come with our longing and with our pride.Β
We come with our words and with our silence.Β
We come with our music and with our resentments.
We come to you, God of truth, with our hands openΒ
and ask that you reach out to us afresh.
Lord forgive our hardness of heart
Forgive us for those times when we think we can do it without you
Forgive us for our coldness towards you and others
Melt the ice of our coldness and breathe your new life into us
Generous God,
we thank you that a small amount of saltΒ
can season a whole meal;
a small candle can light a whole room,
a small act of kindness inspire a whole life,
a small community transform a whole city,
a small prayer bring near a whole kingdom.
We thank you, Lord, we thank you.
Please show me the areas of my life which have become flavourless?!
Show me in what ways can I be salt in my world?
We pray, gracious God, for your Church throughout the world, for your Church in this nation, in this place, that we would be light bearers and truth bearers.Β May we shed the light of encouragement where there is disappointment;Β the light of integrity where there is corruption;Β the light of clarity where there is uncertainty;Β the light of challenge where there is complacency;Β the light of acceptance where there is rejection.Β And may we always walk and pray and serve in the light of humility and in the strength of your name, that others may see you in us and give you the glory.
We pray in Jesusβ name.
Amen.
May you be as salt where there is staleness;
light where there is darkness;Β
truth where there is unbeliefΒ
and love where there is great need.Β
And may you know the blessing of God the Father,
Son and Holy Spirit,Β
close to you each moment and each day.

Hi friends!
We just wanted to send you a quick message to ask how youβre all doing during this challenging time?
Donβt forget we have a reason to sing with gratitude to the Lord every time we wake up to a new day filled with grace and mercy. Many times we forget to express our gratefulness in these busy, crazy and painful times. However, we can sing songs of thankfulness for Godβs goodness and make a joyful noise as the true Spiritual church.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Colossians 3:16 (ESV)
I do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins. (Colossians 1:9-14)
Stay safe and keep singing to the Lord! πΆπβ₯οΈ
Yours in Christ

This morning i was blessed to stumble upon one of my favourite photos Β of my lovely Wife Sarah. Β I just had to add the Bible verse to this post as i think this image reflects a little of what it is expressingβ¦Sarah really does bring sunshine, warmth and light to all who know her! βοΈ

Hi all! After updating βMy Testimonyβ this morningβ¦I realised i hadnβt shared my redemption story for years on here! I know lots of you have read it and left me some proper humbling comments that have just left me in tears(including this morning after i went through a lot of them). Β
With all of the personal stories and news stories of suicide I hear at the momentβ¦I just wanted to remind people that Jesus has the “Good Newsβ. I know this as it has happened to me and i want to share it with everyone! πΒ

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Hi all. As most of you know, i play acoustic guitar alongside my lovely flutist Wife Sarah in churchβ¦But the time has come for me to meet my Nemesis!Β
My guitar teacher βHarry(best guitarist ever)”Β has just started me learning the song iβve been building up to over the last few years. Itβs called βClapβ by Steve Howe(see video below). This is a huge challenge for anyoneβ¦But as you know iβm registered blind and canβt see my fingers or the frets etc so itreally is “My Immense and Daunting Challengeβ.
I would like to write a follow up post around 2025 and i hope to be able to play at least a few bars of it, lol. πΒ
Just wanted to announce this milestone for meβ¦For you who play instrumentsβ¦What are some of the songs/music that have been your Nemesis? And is there any songs/music youβd still like to be able to play? Also for anyone out thereβ¦Do you have a challenge similar to this in any other areas of life? Iβd love to hear from you! πΒ
Β π Verse 4 2dayΒ ~ Ephesians 6:10-18
Β The Armour of GodΒ
Finally, be strong in the LordΒ and in his mighty power.Β Put on the full armor of God,Β so that you can take your stand against the devilβs schemes.Β For our struggle is not against flesh and blood,Β but against the rulers, against the authorities,Β against the powersΒ of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.Β Therefore put on the full armor of God,Β so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.Β Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist,Β with the breastplate of righteousness in place,Β and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.Β In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith,Β with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.Β Take the helmet of salvationΒ and the sword of the Spirit,Β which is the word of God.
And pray in the SpiritΒ on all occasionsΒ with all kinds of prayers and requests.Β With this in mind, be alert and always keep on prayingΒ for all the Lordβs people.
Each morning I like to pray the armour of God prayer to ask God to equip me for the day. When not in prayer, and when I hear the words armour of God my mind shoots back to the image above, which is Power Armour) from the Playstation 3 game Fallout 3.ΒIΒ know that video games get a lot of negative abuse, butΒ IΒ would just like to share this with you. No i’m not losing sight of reality, please bear with me. π
My point……Β
Β For us to stand any chance ofΒ survivingΒ against the devil’s schemes,Β powersΒ of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms, we MUST choose to put on the spiritual armour. Unlike the game we know the location of this armour is in prayer.Β
Readyβ¦..Aim..β¦Pray!
Β IΒ urge you to pray on the Armour of God Ephesians 6 (as listed above). Take a moment and carefully consider the power, purpose and reality of each piece as you put it on.
π Prayer 4 2day!Β
“Lord, please help me this day put on the Full Armour of God.
Help me put the Helmet of Salvation on my head that I might always remember I am saved, and who I belong to, that my mind is guarded in Christ Jesus, and that I may have the mind of Christ and that I may think the thoughts of Christ and reject all others.
Help me put the Breastplate of Righteousness on so that I may walk about in Righteousness and others may see your Righteousness in me, and that my heart is guarded in Christ Jesus, and that I may have the desires of Christ and reject all others.
Help me keep the Belt of Truth securely buckled on my waist, that I may always be secure in the knowledge of the Truth and always speak the Truth in Love.
Help me fit my Feet with the Readiness that comes from the Gospel of Peace, that I may stand firm in the Gospel, and spread the Gospel of Peace wherever I go.
Help hold the Shield of Faith with which to extinguish the flaming arrows of the evil one, strengthen my arm and help me hold it high, that I may use it to protect myself, my family, my household and those under my care, and help me use the Shield of Faith to press ahead and push forward for the kingdom of God.
And Lord, help me take up the Sword of The Spirit which is the Word of God, and use it every day, help me use it to protect myself and others from the evil one through the power and authority of Your Word, and to strike the hearts and minds of those who do not know You calling them towards repentance and salvation, help me use Your Word – the Sword of the Spirit – to cause those who know you but are backslidden to repentance, obedience and service, and to help awaken those who know you, but are asleep so they may obey and serve you, and please help me use your Word to bring, encouragement, strength and wisdom to the Remnant of God through your Word.
Help me serve you this and every day. Please use me Lord. These things I ask in the Name of Jesus Christ.
Amenβ.
Β This week iβm celebrating 15 years since i met my lovely wife Sarah at βSight Village, Birmingham, UKβΒ
This is a major Sight Village show in Birmingham which is held in July each year. Exhibitors throughout the world take part and welcome many thousands of visitors, including people who are blind or partially sighted, professionals, business people and family members.
I was there (from Derby) working for a charity called LOOK and Sarah was there (from Surrey) working for RNIB. She came to my table as she had a magazine which she had just published an article about LOOK and wanted to show me. Sarah opened the magazine and said here are the pictures and the article, i said βWow, fantastic, it all looks greatβ which made Sarah quite proud of her work. I then said while laughing βyou know i didnβt see any of what youβve just shown me, as iβm blind!β. Then as always, a brief pause as Sarah checks out my eyes to see if iβm joking, then Sarah laughed and said βNo way, me too!β. We both approach blindness in a similar way and love blossomed from that point. π

β§ Sarah & i β§Β
Each time our wedding anniversary comes round, i canβt believe how much our marriage has grown more and more fruitful. Our love keeps blossoming through every season and i thank God for Sarah.!
My heart overflows with love for her, she encourages, inspires and loves me in spite of all my faults, She is the sunshine that warms me along my journey. I really donβt have enough words to fully express how blessed i am to have my best friend as my wife to cherish and share every moment of this amazing life.
This is the chorus for the song i wrote for Sarahβ¦.
Youβre the love I thought Iβd never find,
Your smile is like the warm sunshine,
As our souls, slowly entwine!
You light the heavens in my mind!
Godβs Wordβ¦..
Husbands, you must love your wives so deeply, purely, and sacrificially that we can understand it only when we compare it to the love that Jesus Christ has for His bride, the church..
βYour love delights me, my treasure, my bride. Your love is better than wine, your perfume more fragrant than spices.β βSong of Solomon 4:10
βKiss me and kiss me again, for your love is sweeter than wine.β βSong of Solomon 1:2
βYou have captured my heart, my treasure, my bride. You hold it hostage with one glance of your eyes, with a single jewel of your necklace.β βSong of Solomon 4:9
βLove is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never failsβ¦β β1 Corinthians 13:4β8
I thank God for sustaining our marriage in Purity and Truth. AndΒ look forwards to more of this Brobdingnagian adventure!

Yay, Safe On The Dockβ¦.

Once we found and boarded our coach ready for our excursion to the Nutmeg factory, then on to the Chocolate factory..We settled in and Sarah took a lovely photo of the bay of Grenada. We came to the Nutmeg factory last year as itβs Sarahβs fave place, as the incredible smell of nutmeg fills her with warm memories of her Nan Peters when she used it in her cooking.

The Nutmeg Factoryβ¦.

After Sarah stocked up on Aloe Vera oils etcβ¦She had missed getting some of this last year when we had a similar tour…Our Tui tour guide showed us how the Cocoa bean is grown and how they produce it ready for the chocolate.

The Chocolate Factory…
Sorry but didnβt get any photos or videos of the factory. But the local Mango & Lemon punch was amazing and refreshingβ¦But that was a shadow of the ginger & dark chocolate bar! I saved it until we were back in the UK but i now wished iβd bought about 10 of them instead of 1, i think we need to go back next year!! π Β

Β π¨πΌΒ Welcome toΒ Willemstad, Curacao!!!

Β After we boarded the coach and met our tour guide, we drove past the islandβs salt flats and on to the Hato Caves that are full of stalagmites and stalactites.
Unfortunately as we arrived, and after climbing about 50 steep and uneven steps to the mouth of the caveβ¦It was way too dark for Sarah & i, so we had to carefully go back down the steps on a tactical withdrawal. On the plus side, we had a coffee in a lovely yellow local coffee shop. π Β

Next up, we headed over to the Chobolo Liqueur Factory, passing the Queen Juliana Bridge on the way. At the factory, we got to see how the islandβs famous Blue Curacao Liqueur is made. The drink is distilled from the dried peel of bitter oranges, and youβll get to taste it for yourself.
Sarah was excited to see where this drink was from and how it was made, as she and her friend Caroline used to like this drink back in the day.
Lastly, we headed back to the ship via downtown Willemstad and had a look around.
Β The shop, houses and buildings here were Sarahs fave of all! Wow those colours! We really couldnβt decide on a few photos, so we posted them all. Hope you enjoy!

Marella Explorer…
Unbelievably this is the Blind Sightseers 6th cruse! We have never been on the Marella Explorer and Sarah had booked cabin 8001 which is dead centre and right at the front of the ship. She chose this cabin as she thought the views from the window would be fantasticβ¦.Sheβs right again! πΒ

Day at Sea…
Before getting to Aruba we had a day at sea. We were pleased with this as it gave us time to walk about 80,000 steps to find out where we could get Breakfast and the evening mealβ¦But most of all find the Coffee Port to see if they made lovely strong coffee!
Β π¦πΌ Aruba…
As usual we had booked an excursion for each of the 5 islands we were visiting and todays excursion is: De Palm Island – Full Day, Aruba.
De Palm Island has got it all. Set adrift off the Aruban coastline, this private reef offers up pristine waters and a huge variety of exotic marine life, itβs a first-class spot for an underwater exploration. Your day will start off with a short boat trip over to the island, where the friendly staff will be waiting to meet you. After a short safety briefing, youβre ready to slip on your mask and wade into the warm, clear waters. Expect to meet friendly blue parrotfish and angelfish. Back on dry land, thereβll be time to sprawl out on the sand, take your seat for a banana boat ride or visit the islandβs small waterpark before heading back to the ship. Don’t forget that a full buffet lunch and refreshments throughout the day will be included.Β

Β Yayβ¦It was the first time in a while that iβd been able to wear the bright orange shirt i bought in Saint Kitts from our first cruiseβ¦Read all about it here.
Β Sarah & i had a great time wondering around this beautiful little island and we also found our fave placeβ¦.The gift shop! We love to find some things that help us remember the amazing journeys/adventures we have conquered. Β
Back at the dock…
After a short boat ride back to the ship, we had enough time to get changed, leave our bags and have a well needed iced-coffee before heading out to explore as much as we can without getting lost before the ship leaves.
We walked up one street and turned right before Sarah stopped and said βWow, sheβs having her photo taken in front of that cool wall art/sign. Quick get one of meβ βOk my lovely, youβre wearing your new yellow Michael Kors t-shirt too, i hope i get everything inβ. Sarah had bought this t-shirt for our holidays and couldnβt wait to put on the lovely bright colours and flowers.

Β This is one of my fave photos as it shows Sarahβs smile is as bright as her t-shirt.Β
We have started collecting Christmas Tree Baubles too since i started going abroad 5 years ago. We love unpacking them at Christmas and filling the tree with all Β of the places we visit. We think its a lovely idea to fill the tree with our lives journeys and give thanks to God for everything.
Walking back to the ship we finally found a local Bauble makerβ¦Her daughter makes and paints them herself. We bought it(photo later when Sarah finds where we put them on our return home)
Our wonderful new friends…Β

Β Going back to our day at seaβ¦Sarah & i like to share a table with other passengers, mainly to take this opportunity to try and be sociable( being blind and trapped in your very small world & not having any eye contact itβs almost impossible to be sociable. or start conversations). So asking someone to read the menu for you because we are blind is a great ice breaker, lol!Β
We met 2 lovely couples that night and you will hear about them throughout this trip!
Tomorrowβ¦Curacao…Β
Thanks once again for joining us on our adventure, i hope youβll join us tomorrow for our trip around Curacao.Β

Hi Friends! I just wanted to take a little time to thank you for your continued love, support, comments and interactions Β between all of you guys on this blog.Β
Reaching β1500 Followersβ is simply amazing to this little blind man from the UK. I still find it incredible that these posts reach all of you, in all walks of lifeβ¦.Itβs simply Amazing!Β
Whilst celebrating this milestoneβ¦..I feel i need to do something, like a question answer thingy. So how about asking me any question(about me, the blog or anything you like) in the comments below, and iβll try and answer
May all my thanksgiving overflow to the glory of God

β§ Me stood in front of Westminster Chapel β§Β
A few days ago Sarah & i finally got to visit Westminster Chapel. Iβve always wanted to visit since i first heard Dr Martyn Lloyd Jones preach via podcast and now on the MLJ Sermons iPhone app. As i listen to one of his sermons every night(there are around 1600 on the app) iβd always wanted to go and see.
Β The Chapel was closed but Sarah and i had a lovely Cappuccino in the Royal Quarters Cafe directly over the road.
Since iβm posting, I thought iβd add last nights sermon as i go through Ephesians(see Youtube video below) as it not only convicts and moves meβ¦.It also edifies and builds me up. Itβs solid meat and a huge feast every time as he never fails to feed the sheep.
Β

If there is someone reading this who is overwhelmed by guilt, shame, loneliness or is experiencing the creeping death called depression, then Iβd just like to give you hope. The hope that although you may feel that no one cares and that thereβs nothing to live for anymore, thereβs no pit too deep that God wonβt reach down and lift you out of. Growing up no-one told me about Jesus and the Gospel of Good news, My lovely Wife Sarah was the first to explain it to me so iβd love for this blog to be a shining light in a dark tunnel
This is a post for anyone out there who is struggling at the moment. I just wanted to try and inspire you with some of the Songs/Poems i’ve posted on here. Some will have already read them, but its really on my heart to try and help you as you fight with your day to day struggles. Peace be with you.

Sinners in Hell are not the fools they were on earth!
(Charles Spurgeon)
“Then He will say to those on His left: Depart from Me, you who are cursed, into theΒ eternal fireΒ prepared for the devil and his angels!” Matthew 25:41
Sinners in Hell are not the fools they were on earth!Β
In Hell, they do not laugh at everlasting burnings.Β
In the pit, they do not despise the words, “eternal fire!”Β
The worm that never dies,Β when it is gnawing, gnaws out all joke and laughter.Β
You may despise and mock God now–butΒ death will change your note!Β
“Remember, you can laugh your way into Hell–but you can never laugh your way out of Hell!”
“Then they will go away toΒ eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life!” Matthew 25:46
Yayβ¦..We did it!Β
With more than a week pastβ¦.My knees are still scabbed and bruisedβ¦..But iβd like to give an Elephantine amount of thanks for everyone involved! πͺπΌΒ

First, Iβd like to give aΒ stupendous amount of thanks to my lovely Wife Sarahβ¦.The amount of love and encouragement was/is mind-blowing! Β And the βHard As Nailsβ teamβ¦..ββmy muscles were fading but the sense of team work was overwhelming and no matter whatβ¦..We were getting over those obstaclesβ.πͺπΌΒ
Second, iβd like to give a monumental amount of thanks to the βCrazy Clappersβ team. “When i’d finished an obstacle and was about to collapse……I’d hear the Cheering Team and you’d put a big grin on my face to remind me it was alright and to keep going! πΒ
Third, iβd like to give a gargantuan amount of thanks toΒ all of you guys for your donations to βWorld Cancer Research Fundβ and encouraging Β me(& the team) every step of the way! “Intention isnβt Preventionβ¦β¦And you all have helped me spread the good Β news with everyone so we can all be aware and empowered to start fighting the cancers we can prevent.βΒ
Fourth, A colossal amount ofΒ thanks to John & Sarah Atherton(from the Epsom Camera Club) for giving up your Saturday and taking the amazing photos of us allβ¦.Weβve got fantastic memories of the day!
Finally, I’ve already passed the whopping Β£1,000! The fundraising page is open for another 3 monthsβ¦..So if you havenβt donated yet or youβd like to donate again(now you know iβve managed it) it would be amazing to smash more obstacles and raise as much as i can! π πͺπΌ

Β β§ Me carrying Adie on the βHero Carryβ β§Β
It was amazing to have my friend of nearly 30 years Adie Monk join our “Hard As Nails” team. I thought we’d sit and catch up over a coffee….I didn’t have this in mind, lol!
Thanks John Atherton for taking another great photo. I can’t thank you and Sarah Atherton enough for giving us all these memories to cherish! π Β
After jogging a little, we came to thisβ¦β¦.
“At over 2 stories high, this is one of the most impressive obstacles in the UK. It is a giant A-shaped cargo net that you and your team will have to scramble up and over it. Working together will be the only way to overcomeβ.
Β

This is where my new trainers just hooked perfectly around the rope and it felt completely solid. Also my blindness helped me out for once as i couldnβt see how high i was, and didnβt freeze like a couple of people i heard up there!
Β Thenβ¦.When getting to the bottom i hear βYay, Whoop Whoop, Steve, Steve, Steveβ and the sound of the plastic clapper hands were going crazy! What a feeling to know my lovely Wife Sarah and the Crazy Clappers team were cheering me all of the way, a great feeling! π Β

Β β§ Me, Vini & Ashley biggin’ up the cheering team β§Β
More joggingβ¦.Adie and the team were excellent at guiding me when jogging. Moving low hanging branches, telling me of tree roots and pulling me in the right direction. Adie said βI tried running with my eyes closed for a few stepsβ¦And there is no way iβd try any of this if i couldnβt seeβ.
Thenβ¦..
βWe’ve taken the 10′ Hero Walls and tilted them right at you. By removing the ability for you to climb up and over this wall, you will have to form a strategy with your team, work together and boost each other to the other sideβ.

Β β§ Ouch, my leg hasnβt bent that far in about 20 years, lol! β§Β
More Joggingβ¦..
“This obstacle will have you crawling on the ground, pinned down by a giant cargo net. Working your way through this one will require lots of communication, teamwork and a strong willβ.Β

Youβve guessed itβ¦..More jogging and thenβ¦.
“The aim of the game is to get your team up and over this stack of super-sized hay bales. There is no right or wrong way so boost, shove or yank every last team member over the other sideβ.Β

β§ Ashley helping Josie in a display of team work β§ Β
Β Nextβ¦β¦.
“Can’t go through it, can’t go round it, you’ll have to go over it. Work together to boost and shimmy your teammates up and over this 10′ Tough Mudder stapleβ.

Β Yep, more joggingβ¦..
“Time to get swinging. Grab on, hold tight, feel the momentum and swing yourself from ring to ring like a regular Tarzan. This obstacle will test your strength, coordination and flow. Hang in there, you got thisβ.
Really didnβt do well on this oneβ¦And i canβt really blame my sight for lack of strength, lol!

 After a little more jogging⦅
“One of the most teamwork-inducing obstacles in the Tough Mudder portfolio, this obstacle is difficult to complete alone. You’re going to have to work together to form a human pyramid and, like its namesake, climb up and over your fellow Mudders on the way to the topβ.
As Vini was making everything look so easyβ¦..It was great to look at the photos afterwards and see it wasnβt all too easy!! πͺπΌΒ Β

Β AND NOWβ¦β¦MY NEMESIS!!!!
“A true Tough Mudder legend. Everest will challenge participants to run up a quarter pipe to reach the summit. Can’t do it alone? Not to worry – teammates are encouraged to hang over the top to pull their new friends up and overβ.
Β I knew this was going to be more difficult for me as i needed to try it and get hands on before i could calculate what exactly i needed to do. Adie & Ashley explained the processβ¦.But i knew i just had to do it before i would really knowβ¦.As running at a half pipe wall thingy when blind is going to be interesting!
Here Goes Nothingβ¦..

I took 1 step too manyβ¦.and before i knew it the wall was in my face! Ooooo i was so close to reaching the ledge. Β

After hitting the wall i dropped down on both knees, and as the obstacle was made of hardish tyre rubber, it simply burned and ripped the skin off both kneesβ¦.Wow that stings, lol. Time to regroup and recalculate!Β

“Ok Steve, just do the same but with 1 step lessβ. Here i go again!

Yayβ¦.Thatβs betterβ¦..And once i had my talon trainers gripped to the ledge, i could just heave myself up. Wow i made it! πͺπΌΒ

β§Β Ashley showing how it should be done!Β β§π Β

Β The team were fantastic and we all made it up. No-one was being left behind and you could just feel the team growing closer with each obstacle, it was amazing.Β

Β Now the final obstacle was overcome, it was time for a short jog to the finish line,Yay!Β
The Finish Line & The Headbandsβ¦…Β

Β WE DID ITβ¦…Β

WOW WHAT A JOURNEY⦅
I hope after getting this farβ¦..Youβve enjoyed this journey with me and the team too? They are already talking about doing a longer and more muddier one with more obstacles for next year. As a Cancer Prevention charity we were also giving away Bananas and sharing some great Banana facts as they help reduce your Cancer risk! I love Bananasβ¦..So here are a few random facts:
1. Are energy boosters
The natural sugars found in bananas (sucrose, fructose, and glucose) combined with fiber and potassium make it an energy-boosting snack. In addition, its levels of serotonin and dopamine improve antioxidant capacity and help with of oxidative stress, enhancing performance overall. So the next time you plan an extreme workout session, remember to eat two bananas before your workout.
2. Is useful for treating anemia
People who suffer from anemia need to ingest great amounts of iron which stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood. Bananas are not only a rich source of iron they also contain a high amounts of vitamin C which increases the absorption of iron. So if you suffer from anemia, you should consider including bananas in their diet.
3. Bananas float on water!
Please add any more Banana facts in the comments section belowβ¦..Iβd love to learn more! πΒ
Yayβ¦..Itβs Our 11th Wedding anniversary!!
Hi allβ¦..Today is a really long post as itβs a special day for Sarah & i. I really hope you read through to the end and be blessed!Β
Ephesians 5:25-27Β The Voice (VOICE)
Husbands, you must love your wives so deeply, purely, and sacrificially that we can understand it only when we compare it to the love the Anointed One has for His bride, the church. We know He gave Himself up completely to make her His own, washing her clean of all her impurity with water and the powerful presence of His word. He has given Himself so that He can present the church as His radiant bride, unstained, unwrinkled, and unblemishedβcompletely free from all impurityβholy and innocent before Him.
My Thoughts…
Each time our wedding anniversary comes round, i canβt believe how much our marriage has grown more and more fruitful. Our love keeps blossoming through every season and i thank God for Sarah who is not only my best friend, but my amazing wife! πΒ
I thank God for sustaining our marriage in Purity and Truth.Β
I thank God for not leaving us alone to figure out what to do, but for giving us, teaching, correction, training and a perfect Holy example to follow through the Holy Spiritβ¦to reflect the personal and intimate union between Christ and His Church. The mystery of marriage is its reflection of the oneness of Christ, the Husband, and His Church, the Bride of Christ.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8Β Amplified Bible
Love endures with patience and serenity, love is kind and thoughtful, and is not jealous or envious; love does not brag and is not proud or arrogant. It is not rude; it is not self-seeking, it is not provoked [nor overly sensitive and easily angered]; it does not take into account a wrong endured. It does not rejoice at injustice, but rejoices with the truth [when right and truth prevail]. Love bears all things [regardless of what comes], believes all things [looking for the best in each one], hopes all things [remaining steadfast during difficult times], endures all things [without weakening].
Love never fails…

The Marriage Altarβand After
J. R. Miller, 1880
preparations are all at last made. The bridal dress is completed. The day has been fixed. The invitations have been sent out. The hour comes. Two young hearts are throbbing with love and joy. A brilliant company, music, flowers, a solemn hushβas the happy pair approach the altar, the repetition of the sacred words of the marriage ceremony, the clasping of hands, the mutual covenants and promises, the giving and receiving of the ring, the final “Whom God has joined togetherβlet not man put asunder,” the prayer and blessingβand theΒ twain are one flesh. There are tears and congratulations, hurried good-byes, and a new bark puts out upon the sea, freighted with high hopes. God grant it may never beΒ dashed upon any hidden rockΒ and wrecked!
Marriage is very like the bringing together of two instruments of music. The first thing, is to get them keyed to theΒ same pitch. Before a concert begins you hear the musicians striking chords and keying their instruments, until at length they all perfectly accord. Then they come out and play some rare piece of music, without a discord or a jar in any of its parts.
No two lives, however thorough their former acquaintance may have been, however long they may have moved together in society or mingled in the closer and more intimate relations of a ripening friendship, ever find themselvesΒ perfectly in harmonyΒ on their marriage-day. It is only when thatΒ mysterious blendingΒ begins after marriage, which no language can explainβthat each finds so much in the other that was never discovered before. There areΒ beautiesΒ andΒ excellencesΒ that were never disclosed, even toΒ love’s partial eye, in all the days of familiar intimacy. There areΒ peculiaritiesΒ andΒ blemishesΒ which were never seen to existβuntil they began to make themselves manifest within the veil of the matrimonial temple. There areΒ incompatibilitiesΒ that were never dreamed ofβuntil they were revealed in the abrasions of domestic life. There areΒ faultsΒ which neither even suspected, in the temper and habits of the other!
Before marriage young people are on their good behavior. They do notΒ exhibit their infirmities.Β SelfishnessΒ is hidden under garments of courtesy and gallantry. Each forgetsΒ SELFβin romantic devotion to the other. The voice is softened and made tender, and even tremulous, byΒ love. The music flows with a holy rhythm mellowed by affection’s gentleness. Everything that would make an unfavorable impression, is scrupulously put under lock and key. So there is harmony of no ordinary sweetness made by the two young lives, unvexed by one discordant note.
Marriage is aΒ great mystery. “TheΒ twainΒ shall beΒ oneΒ flesh” is no mere figure of speech. Years of closest, most familiar, most unrestrained intimacy, bring lives very close togetherβbut there is still aΒ separating wallΒ which marriage breaks down. The two lives become one. Each opens every nook, every chamber, every cranny, to the other. There is a mutual interflow, life pouring into life.
There may have been no intention on the part of either, to deceive the other in the smallest matter, or to cloak the smallest infirmity. But theΒ disclosureΒ could not, in the very nature of things, have been any more perfect. Each stood in theΒ porchΒ of a house, or at the most sat in itsΒ parlor, never entering any of theΒ inner rooms. Now the whole house is thrown open, and many hitherto unsuspected things are seen!
Too often theΒ restraintΒ seems to fall off, when theΒ matrimonial chainΒ is riveted. No effort is longer made to curb the bad tempers and evil propensities. The delicate robe of politeness is torn away, and many a rudeness appears. It seems to be considered no longer necessary, to continue the old thoughtfulness.Β SelfishnessΒ begins to assert itself. TheΒ sweet amenitiesΒ of the wooing-days are laid asideβand the result is unhappiness! Many a young bride cries herself sick half a dozen times, before she has been a month a bride, and wishes she were back in the bright, happy home of her youth! Oftentimes both the newly-wedded pair become discouraged, and think in their hearts that they have made a mistake!
And yet there is really no reason for discouragement. The marriage may yet be made happy. There is need only for large and wise patience. The two lives require only to be brought into harmony, andΒ love’s sweetest musicΒ will flow from two hearts in tender unison. But there are several rules which must always be remembered and observed.
Why, for instance, should either party, after the wedding-day, cease to observe all the sweet courtesies, little refinements and charming amenities of the courtship-days? Why should a man beΒ politeΒ all day to everyone he meetsβeven to the porter in his store, and the bootblack or newsboy on the streetβand then less polite to her who meets him at his door with yearning heart hungry for expressions of love? If things have gone wrong with him all day, why should he carry his gloom to his home to darken the joy of his wife’s tender heart? Or why should the woman who used to be all smiles and beauty and adornment and perfume when her lover came, meet her husband now with disheveled hair, soiled dress, slovenly manner andΒ face all frowns? Why should there not be a resolute continuance of the old politeness and mutual desire to pleaseβwhich made the wooing-days so sunny?
Then love must be lifted up out of the realm of theΒ passionsΒ andΒ sensesβand be spiritualized. There should be converse on theΒ higher themesΒ of life. Many people areΒ weddedΒ only at one or two points. Their natures know but the lower forms of pleasure and fellowship. They never commune on any topic, but the most earthy. TheirΒ intellectualΒ parts have no fellowship. They never read nor converse together on elevated themes. There is no commingling of mind with mind; they are dead to each other, in that higher region.Β
Then still fewer areΒ weddedΒ in their highest, their spiritual natures. The number is small, of those who commune together concerning the things of God, the soul’s holiest interests and the realities of eternity. No marriage is completeβwhich does not unite and blend the wedded lives at every point. Husband and wife should be wedded along their whole nature.
This implies that they shouldΒ readΒ and study together, having the same line of thought, helping each other toward higher mental culture. It implies also that they shouldΒ worshipΒ together, communing with one another upon the holiest themes of life and hope. Together they should bow inΒ prayer, and together work in anticipation of the same blessed home beyond this life of toil and care. I can conceive of no true and perfect marriage, whose deepest joy does not lieΒ forwardΒ in the life to come.
PerfectΒ mutual confidenceΒ is an element of every complete marriage. Husband and wife shouldΒ live but one life, sharing all of each other’s cares, joys, sorrows and hopes. There should not be a corner in the nature and occupation of eitherβwhich is not open to the other. The moment a man has to begin to shut his wife out from anyΒ chapters of his daily lifeΒ he is in peril; and in like manner her whole life should be open to him. There should be a flowing together of heart and soul in close communion and perfect confidence. No discord can end in harmβwhile there is such mutual inter-sphering of lives and such inter-flowing of souls.
Once more, no third party should ever be taken into this holy of holies. No matter who it isβthe sweetest, gentlest, dearest, wisest mother; the purest, truest, tenderest sister; the best, the loyalest friendβno one butΒ GodΒ should ever be permitted to know anything of the secret, sacred married life, that they twain are living. This is one of those relations with which no stranger, though he be the closest bosom friend, should intermeddle. AnyΒ alien touchΒ is sure to leave a blight.
There are certainΒ influencesΒ that bring out all the warmth and tenderness needed to make any marriage very happy. When one is sick, how gentle and thoughtful it makes the other! Not a want or wish is left unsupplied. All the heart’s affectionsβlong slumbering, perhapsβare awakened and become intent on most kindly ministry. No service is thought a hardship now, or done with any show of reluctance. There is not a breath or look of impatience. Love flows out inΒ toneΒ andΒ lookΒ andΒ wordΒ andΒ act. There is anΒ inexpressible tendernessΒ in all the bearing. Even the coldest natures become gentle in the sick-room, and the rudest, harshest manners become soft and warm at theΒ touch of sufferingΒ in the beloved one.Β
Or let death come to either, and what an awakening there is of all that is holiest and tenderest and sweetest in the heart of the other! If the dead could be recalled and the wedded life resumed, would it not be a thousand times more loving than ever it was before? Would there be any more the oldΒ impatience, the oldΒ selfishness? Would there not be the fullest sympathy, the largest forbearance, the warmest outflow of the heart’s most kindly feelings?
And why may not married life be lived day by day, under the power of this wondrous influence? Why wait forΒ sufferingΒ in the one we loveβtoΒ thaw out the heart’s tenderness, to melt the icy chill of neglect and indifference, and to produce in us the summer fruits of affection? Why wait forΒ deathΒ to comeβto reveal the beauty of the plain life that moves by our side, and disclose the value of the blessings it enfolds for us? Why should we only learn to appreciate and prize love’s splendors and its sweetnessβas it vanishes out of our sight?Β
Why should theΒ empty chairβbe the first revealer of the real worth of those who have walked so close to us? Why should sorrow over our lossβbe the first influence to draw from our hearts, the tenderness and the wealth of kindly ministries that lie pent up in them all the while? Surely, wedded life should call out all that is richest, truest, tenderest, most inspiring and most helpful in the life of each. This is theΒ true idealΒ of Christian marriage. Its love is to be like that of Christ and his Church. It should not wait for theΒ agony of sufferingΒ or theΒ pang of separationΒ to draw out its tendernessβbut should fill all its days and nights withΒ unvexed sweetness!
There are many such marriages. Few more beautiful pictures of wedded love were ever unveiled, than that which was lived out in the home of Charles Kingsley. His wife closes her loving memoir with these words, “The outside world must judge him as an author, a preacher, a member of societyβbut those only who lived with him in the intimacy of every-day life at homeβcan tell what he was as a man. Over the real romance of his life, and over the tenderest, loveliest passages in his private lettersβa veil must be thrownβbut it will not be lifting it too far to say that if in the highest, closest of earthly relationships, a love that never failedβpure, patient, passionateβfor thirty-six yearsβa love which never stooped from its own lofty levelβto a hasty word, an impatient gesture or a selfish act, in sickness or in health, in sunshine or in storm, by day or by night, could prove that the age of chivalry has not passed away foreverβthen Charles Kingsley fulfilled the ideal of a ‘most true and perfect knight’ to the one woman blessed with that love in time, and to eternity. To eternity, for such love is eternal, and he is not dead. He himself, the man, the lover, husband, father, friendβhe still lives in God, who is not the God of the deadβbut of the living.”Β
And why should, not every marriage in Christ, realize all that lies in this picture? It is possible, and yet only noble manhood and womanhood, with truest views of marriage and inspired by the holiest love, can realize it.

Hi all, I’ve just received an email from my lovely Wife Sarah saying “just wondered if you could share this info on your blog’s to all of the super people on there for me??? Wonderful husband who I love Β :)β So here goesβ¦..
As you all may know alreadyβ¦..Sarah works for World Cancer Research Fund, you might have read about my Tough Mudder challenge (that Iβm training for at the moment) to raise funds and awareness for this charity.
“It would be great if everyone could promote our amazing new cancer health check on WordPress, Twitter and Facebook today and next week using the hashtag #HealthandCancer β it is such a valuable tool and we want to make sure that people get the most from it!”

I canβt thank you guys enough for all of the support youβve given Sarah & i over the years!! Thank you and God Bless. πΒ
As a βBlind Photographerβ my sight is really blurry but i can just about frame a shot by the lines. I donβt often know what the lines of the objects are, lol. But itβs how i can get some good images now and then! πΒ

As i could get my hands on this guitarβ¦.I knew exactly what the lines were! lol.
I thought this weeks Photo ChallengeΒ was an ideal opportunity to post a photo of my Taylor K22ce acoustic guitar, which is made from the exotic tropical wood Hawaiian Koa. I just love the lines of this beautiful wood and never get bored looking at them.
Hi all. Itβs Tuesday morning again and this meansβ¦..Going to Roots Coffee Shop to get a Cappuccino and a Chicken Panini. But this time while i was sat, my mind drifted to the grim reaper tattoo on my leg. Itβs a constant reminder of the position i was in when i got it, and the position iβm in nowβ¦.Which is life or death!Β
As an unbeliever, i got it to simply look hard, and death was what people seemed to fear the most and they certainly didnβt like talking about it. So i thought this was the coolest thingβ¦..Never knowing that God had already written about this. lol.
Ephesians 2:1-3 English Standard VersionΒ
2 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedienceβ 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body[a] and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.
But now sitting here sipping my Cappuccino thinkingβ¦.i still have the tattoo and yet iβm in a totally different position. Born again, a new creationβ¦.Not by anything i did, but by the Grace of our Lord Jesus. Unbelievable!Β

4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christβby grace you have been savedβ 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
Each time i remember this tattoo on my leg, i remember that death has no sting for the Child of Godβ¦..
1 Corinthians 15:55-57 English Standard VersionΒ
55 βO death, where is your victory?
O death, where is your sting?β
56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
I fail to describe the Joy and Peace this gives me, knowing he has saved me and i can trust in Him. I love the line from the old Hymn: On Christ the solid rock i stand, all other ground is sinking sand.
Hi all!
People who know me?! know that Iβve been struggling and fighting all kinds of obstacles for the past 18 years since being registered blindβ¦..BUT Iβve never faced obstacles such as these.
I was recently challenged to do the Tough Mudder 5K by Sarahβs nail tech/artist Ashley, who works atΒ Ooh La La Hair & Beauty Salon.Β I chose the team name HARD AS NAILS and I’ll be competing and raising funds for one of my favourite charities –World Cancer Research Fund
World Cancer Research Fundβ¦..
My lovely wife Sarah works forΒ World Cancer Research FundΒ and I was stopped in my tracks by one of the statistics she showed me –Β That a third of all cancers can be prevented…Β that’s over 80,000 casesΒ each year in the UK alone. This totally blew my mind!
βWhat??? There are Cancers that I can prevent? I thought Cancer was something that you just got!”
Cancer is a terifying disease and most, if not all of us, either know or have known someone who has had or been affected by cancer.
Many believe that getting cancer is down to your genes, fate or just bad luck, but there are so many things you can do to reduce your cancer risk.
What you eat and drink, how much you weigh and how physically active you are can all make a big difference.
With our support World Cancer Research Fund will be able to learn more about how to prevent cancer – keeping loved ones together for longer.

Even when it rainsβ¦..Sarah brings the sun! πΒ βοΈ

Β Hi all, i wondered if youβd join me in thanking this remarkable young dude Vini! πͺπΌ πΒ
Vini has been my Gym Buddy for 7 months now and as a blind man trying to trainβ¦.I canβt tell you how much having Vini around to encourage, enable, spot and push me to not quit helps me on this fantastic new healthy journey. πΒ
Whatβs even more remarkableβ¦β¦Vini came to the UK 6 years ago when he was 11, and he couldnβt even say hello to me, as he didnβt speak any english at all! Now he can speak better english than me, as i have a thick Derby accent, lol. πΒ
Heβs now nearly a year into his A levels and can speak 3 languages so far as well as many other giftings.
I could go on and on, lolβ¦..But i just wanted to thank him for his dedication to training, and for not minding having an old blind guy following him around. He just keeps on giving and helping me to achieve my goals, even though heβs got lots on with school etcβ¦..And for everything he does and the excellent young man heβs becomingβ¦..Iβd like to give him a huge thanks! I feel so proud that he calls me βUncleβ. πͺπΌ πΒ
I thought iβd just share a couple of photos with you guys of my fun afternoonβ¦.Giving my lovely wife Sarah(Princess) a lift around our local common. I keep saying to Sarah βItβs great to finally give you a lift, as i havenβt driven a car since i was registered blind 18 years ago! lol. π
In case youβre wondering whyβ¦β¦Iβve been challenge by Sarahβs nail tech/artist to do a Tough Mudder 5K on 13th October 2018 One of the activities(called Hero Carry) is to carry someone for a quarter of a mile.Β

Big thanks to our friend Sara for capturing these fun photos. πΒ
For the past 6 months I’ve started training in the gym! I know it was a surprise for me too. lol. πΒ
It came about when our friends Ben & Rosie had their latest son Leoin August 2017. Β and while Sarah & i were visiting Rosie in hospital, Rosie mentioned that her son Vini(16 already) was going to the local Gym but needed some encouragement?!
Sarah quickly said βSteve knows loads about training at the gym and it would be great for Steve to get training againβ. I said βErm, i havnβt trained for over 20 yearsβ¦..And i could see back then. Iβve tried Gyms since, but they are simply not accessible for meβ. My avoidance tactic didnβt work, lol.Β
A huge, huge huge Thank you to Viniβ¦. πΒ
I was excited about the prospect of training again as my blindness kills my mobility and i lose hope of exercise etc. But after meeting Vini at the Gym, i realised that there were quite a few machines i could do, i canβt see the dumbbell sizes(or even the dumbbells for that matter) but it doesnβt matter much as Vini sorts all of that out. But unfortunately i still have to lift them on my own!
Β It is really, really hard work. Every time I train I leave the gym completely exhausted and feeling very sore the next few days. Nothing beats when you begin to feel good after a workout and to see improvements every time you go. Being able to lift heavier, for longer and knowing your body is beginning to adjust and change according to your routine.Β
The Christian Walk With God Is a little Like Training At The Gym…
The beginner gym goer is like the newly saved christian who has to build up their relationship with Jesus and become more familiar with the word of God slowly and consistently.
Iron Sharpens Iron…
The beginner needs to be discipled and encouraged along their journey, and not keep looking to the mature ones and comparing themselves to them. You are now born again, like a new born babe. The fruit tree starts out as a seed so pride has to be beaten down like a baddie in a film that doesnβt want to die! Yes by the Spirit put to death the deeds of the body.
After the gym our bodies create muscle that wasnβt their before, it uses the energy and protein that our body stores and consumes through the food we eat. Like a muscle our faith can turn into something that it wasnβt before. If we feed it with the word of God, with prayer and fellowship with other christians we can have a stronger faith day by day.
Muscle fibres are being torn and broken down in the gym so they need repaired this causes pain for a few days after.
Sometimes growing in our faith and relationship with Jesus can be sore and uncomfortable as we will have to go through situations and rise up to challenges that seem difficult emotionally and physically but every time after this our faith will seem stronger than it was before if we keep being led by the Holy Spirit and not our fleshly desires.
So next time youβre at the gym, exercising, preparing healthy food or out for a walk etc, make sure to remember to schedule in your daily βtrainingβ time with God and get building that βmuscleβ of faith.
π Prayer 4 2dayβ¦..
Lord, I ask that you would bring me the wisdom, motivation, and ability to properly exercise my body. Stir me up to train all for the glory of God!
In Jesus name, Amen!
For this weeks photo challenge βExperimentalβ, i thought iβd go back a year and a half when Sarah & i were being “Experimental” with the iPhone Panorama mode. I thought iβd try and look calm in the start of the shotβ¦.Then run around the back of Sarah to wave in the end of the shot! I managed it eventually, lol. π Β

Hi all! First of all could you please check out my Brother Paulβs New Blog Here. He is writing about his mighty battle with weight loss and mental illness and it would be a real encouragement for you guys to say hi!Β
The London Eyeβ¦..
Paul has lost a huge 30 Stone (420lb) as i write this post. He came down on Wednesday and i met him at Waterloo station as he wanted to go on the London Eye. It was a great experience and i still canβt believe itβs happened(youβll know what i mean when you rea his blog). Β
We have a lovely photo of us together(below) which we can keep as a great memory of this milestone!Β Β

Boyce Avenue AT THE ROYAL ALBERT HALLβ¦..
Paulβs favorite band is Boyce Avenue and they were playing at the Royal Albert Hall, so after meeting Sarah from workβ¦.We headed of to see the band heβd waited 7 years to see. Paul always wanted to go to a concert of Boyce Avenue but could never go as he was stuck inside his flat for years! But now the moment is here!

κΒ The Royal Albert Hall at night κ
Paul had a fantastic evening and it was a dream come true!! I was so blessed to be apart of his special day and iβm so proud of him.
I’m looking forwards for more milestone events to come! πΒ

Wow, i still canβt believe itβs been 10 years since our amazing wedding day!
An unexpected blessingβ¦..
This trip has been such an unexpected blessing, as Sarah had another “Charcot Footβ and was in an air-cast for the last 5 monthsβ¦..She had it removed a few weeks ago and sheβs been strengthening her leg for this cruise. So we are amazed to be spending our 10th wedding anniversary visiting some fantastic places! π Β
Breakfastβ¦..
We slept really well and caught up on the sleepless night we had yesterday. We thought weβd go to the Compass Rose (waiter service restaurant) for our 10th anniversary breakfast. It didnβt disappoint and we had porridge, fruit, nuts, seeds bacon and bananas (not all together, lol).
Swimmingβ¦..
After looking around the ship and trying to familiarise ourselves with our fave places, we nipped back to our cabin to get our things ready for a couple of hours sunbathing and swimming. Sarah loves swimming (as you can tell in the photos below) and had an excellent time enjoying her anniversary in the pool! π Β

β¬ Sarah doing handstands in the pool β¬Β
The Towel Swan Heartβ¦..
After having lots of fun, we headed back to our cabin where we were surprised to find two towel swans placed in the shape of a heart, with flowers and our cards etc in a beautiful display. We rushed out to find the cabin stewards and thanked them profusely… whilst Sarah took lots of photos!Β

Β β¬ Towel folded Swan heart β¬Β
Earlier this morning Sarah had found an invitation pushed under the cabin door. βThis looks a bit fancy, itβs only an invitation to the formal evening. We have to sign it to say that weβre going, then hand it back to receptionβ¦..Seems like a lot of paper work to me.β βOh right, iI suppose they need to know how many people will be in the restaurant for dinner this evening, it must be the policy for formal night on this ship. It was different on the Dream shipβ i replied.Β
I hadnβt brought my tuxedo this time as it filled half my suitcase the time before and i didnβt want to waste that amount of space again. I did bring my trousers though as we like the waiter service meal in the evenings. β i hope they donβt chuck me over-board for not dressing smart enough.β Sarah told me… βYouβll be fine, lol, itβs only for one evening and your new black shirt looks smart enough anywayβ.Β
Formal Eveningβ¦..

Β β¬ Me & my lovely Wife Sarah β¬Β

Β β¬ My lovely Wife Sarah β¬Β
After listening to the Captain introduce himself and some of his crew, we headed to the Compass Rose restaurant where we planned to have have a lovely four course meal.Β
We said we didnβt mind sharing, and the waiter sat us right next to a window (yay) on a four seater table. We introduced ourselves to Brian & Anne (more about our new friends in later posts) and they kindly read out the menu for us. After ordering from each section of the menu, we got to chatting.
AND THENβ¦..
A huge shadow, from an even bigger man darkened our whole tableβ¦.. βSteveβ¦..FOLLOW MEβ said the man with a really deep transylvanian voice. I looked at Sarah, and then back at the man βFOLLOW MEβ he said again. Sarah said βCan i come with himβ βyESβ he said as we started to stand. We said to Brian and Anne βI think weβll see you later, weβve only just ordered our food, and if weβre not backβ¦..youβll get double, lolβ.
As sarah guided me behind this Behemoth of a man up a few flights of stairs, Sarah said βWhere is he taking us?β βI think weβre going to the plank, or at least being court marshalledβ was my apprehensive reply.
We finally entered a small bar area where Claudia (the social director) greeted us with a glass of Champagne and a smelly fish bite (i donβt like fish, if youβd not guessed, lol) and showed us to our seats. Claudia said βI thought you werenβt going to make it?β βTo make what?β Sarah replied still looking bemused. “You got the invitation?β.Sarah said βYesβ¦..the one to the formal eveningβ. Claudia then said βNo, that was an invitation to the Captains table and an evening with the Captain.β βOoooppsβ i misread it as a general evening invitation (easily done as the iPhone magnifier isnβt as good as the large CCTV we have at home)β. Sarah whispered to me βThe Captain and his other guests were waiting for us up here, as we were seeming to ignore them and eating our meal already with someone else, lol.
The Captains Tableβ¦..
Since Sarah & i already knew the menu (thanks Brian & Anne) this was our easiest food ordering to date. We had a lovely meal and a fantastic time chatting with everyone around the table. It was really interesting hearing everyones stories and experiencesβ¦..Sarah already has her next cruise planned in her mind after asking the Captain what place he liked best after 30 yrs of cruising the seas, lol.Β
Now it was time to leave again for the Show Lounge to watch possibly the worst show we have ever seen (heard for me, lol.). π Β

Wow, What a memorable 10th Wedding Anniversaryβ¦. Β Β
Retiring back to our cabin (making sure we didnβt upset the swans), we talked about our memorable day and how weβd never forget our 10th Wedding Anniversary! Now it was time to sleep, as itβs an early start once we arrive in Corinth. It was also the start of 5 full days of excursions weβd booked and we were really excited, even though we knew the temperatures were going to reach up to 41β (ouch).
Thank Youβ¦..
Sarah & i would like to thank you once again for celebrating our 10th Wedding Anniversary and for all of the lovely messages you sent us on “Praise, And Thanks Be To Godβ¦β¦Itβs Our 10th Amazing Anniversary!!!β

Wow, Wow, Wowβ¦..Sarah & i have had a fantastic time away celebrating our 10th Wedding Anniversary in Croatia, Greece & Montenegro!
ANDβ¦.. We’ve made it back in one piece to share all of our unforgettable memories and adventures with you all. π Β
Taxi,Train & The Thomson Planeβ¦..
As the taxi was booked for 3:30am, we thought it would be a good idea not to go to sleep as it makes us more tired if we only sleep for an hour or 2 (we were wrong, lol).
There was a little scare as Sarah felt funny, so she did a blood test in the taxi and found it was going low. βOh no, not alreadyβ i thought as Sarah was already sorting it out with a few dextrose. Sarah felt better as we arrived at the airport and with a small struggle to find the suitcase check-in desk, we were finally sorted and heading for the airport assistance.
The assistance took us through security which all went well, until Sarah showed them her insulin pumpβ¦..Then (as they think itβs a detonator) they told Sarah to take of her shoes etc. and carefully and slowly scanned her whole body for explosives.
Following the guide to our seats in the departure lounge, Sarah & i were looking forwards to a nice bacon roll and coffee. Her work colleague had told her to try this as weβd not had anything to eat since yesterday afternoon… we were ready for it! BUT the airport assistance were too efficient this time and before we had time to figure out the direction of the bacon, the guide took us on the βFun Trainβ and straight onto the plane! πΒ
The Airplaneβ¦..
As i sat down after being expertly guided to my seat, i said βWait a minuteββ¦.. I was feeling underneath the window at the up & down dimmer switches whilst stretching my legs out testing the large leg room. βThis isnβt an Airbus A320! Itβs the 787 Dreamliner. Wow i didnβt think it was going to be this monster for a two and a half hour flightβ Sarah said βWow, youβre still getting excited about flyingβ¦. you must really love itβ I said βOh Yeah!β. Β
Time for a snackβ¦..
Since we couldnβt have our fantastic bacon roll at the airport, we decided to share some chunky potatoe wedges on the plane. Sarah simply couldnβt eat them (and i even struggled)β¦. they tasted (and were as dry as) a sun dried bath sponge! π¦
Welcome to Dubrovnik airportβ¦..

The airport assistance at Dubrovnik were fantastic and before we knew it, we were on a coach arriving at the dock ready to board the Thomson Spirit. We’d only been on the Thomson Dream which is bigger, so we were excited to explore this different ship.
We were fast-tracked again through all of the check-in procedures and were soon dropping our bags off in our cabin ready to go and explore! π Β

β¬ View of Dubrovnik bay from the Thomson Spirit β¬
We managed to weave our way through the decks and up to the top which was lovely and quiet to take a look around, take some photos and soak in the view and the hot sun.
We were surrounded by a sea of blue, sky of blue, deck of blue and Sarahβs new βHokusai” dress …of blue. π Β Β

Coffee, Life Jackets & Dinnerβ¦..
After enjoying ourselves on the top deck, we looked around for a place to have a nice coffee. We knew this ship had no “Coffee Port” like on the Thomson Dream, so when we found “Raffles Bar” and ordered a Cappuccino (for me) and an Americano, we were even more excited as the coffee was well-nice and strong!
The assistance was fantastic again and the life jacket drill went really smoothly, i think weβre finally getting the hang of this. lolΒ
We found the βCompass Roseβ waiter service restaurant which was very similar to the βOrionβ restaurant on the Thomson Dream, we said we didnβt mind sharing a table with others as we always need an unsuspecting guest to read the menu for us, which is always a laugh for all involved and itβs a great conversation starter! πΒ
After a fantastic four course meal, it was time to take one last tour around the ship to see if weβd remembered where anything was before retiring to our cabin after a very long day!
Thank youβ¦..
I would just like to say a huge thank you(to you the reader and fellow traveller) for staying with us to the end of this day!
Oh did i mention itβs our 10th Wedding Anniversary” tomorrow!!
