π§πΆ Tropical Delights Tour: Day 3 Kralendijk, Bonaire
Today was the birthday excursion for Sarah. It was a second choice as the first choice was sold out weeks before weβd even started our cruise. We were thinking about the 4×4 Land Rover trip weβd done in the Azores(see here) but couldn’t really get excitedβ¦As it was much hotter here and the thought of being crammed in the back of a Land Rover really wasnβt doing anything for us today. So what we thought was going to be an anticlimaxβ¦Turned out to be the best trip of the whole holiday! Oh and iβd just travelled in my best vehicle of all time! πΒ
The 1961 Yellow Unimogβ¦
Awww friendsβ¦.Let me introduce you to this Yellow, 1961 Unimog…..have you seen the tires, lol! It threw us around like crazy and i still can’t believe that he didn’t slow down for anything. There is no way a vehicle can hit rocks, huge pot holes, climb cracked hills and go around tight bends whilst travelling at break neck speed, it would have destroyed anything else and left them in a pile of spare parts, lol. I’m not sure they issued these with brake pedals! π

Arawak Off-road Safari…Β
Β First, we Β climbed into the Subi Rincon hills, where the amazing yellow Unimog stopped at a set of time-worn Indian caves.

the beauty spot, Seru Largu. This cross-topped monument sits on a raised platform, setting Sarah up with panoramic views of the capital, Kralendijk.

Hi friends. As it is 20 years to the day since i went blindβ¦I thought iβd share one of my older posts(yet updated) from 4 years ago when i was asked to share a little of what i went through when i lost my sight at 24.
I really hope that youβll have the time to read it, and that it blesses you in some small way?!Β
Here Goes…
I was asked by our Minister Nik if i would share my Testimony in the parade service. The theme was βFaith through Adversityβ, Nik said “i can ask you some straight forward questions, it will only take about 5 minutes(or so we thought)β βYeah, ok, if you think it will help?β.
Sunday 8th May 2016…
Walking into the church building Sunday morning, it was quite full, as it was parade service, the scouts and other uniformed groups were there, but Nik found us seats at the front, then showed me up the steps and where iβd stand to speak, after testing the microphone i remembered the steps and sat back down.Β
As iβm blind, i canβt use any notes, so i spent a little time trying to etch some answer headings into my mind, hoping iβd not veer too far off track. I then prayed that iβd use this time to Glorify Him, as i talked about the Truth that sets us free, and how iβm not ashamed of the Gospel, itβs the power of God unto Salvation to all who believe…please make it real(be careful praying this, lol).
It;s time…
Steve, we are looking at people who have showed faith in difficult circumstances and I have asked you to share some of your story with us.
Many people here, even those who have seen you around at various church events may not know that you are blind.
My Testimony…
Nik stood next to me at the microphone and started with the first 2 questions:
Have you always been blind? How and when did you loose your sight?
I explained iβd been fully sighted until i was 24, and after 2 brain haemorrhages(March – July 2000) that burst my optic nerve, iβm now registered blind and have Severe Hypertensive Retinopathy.
“How did that change your life?”
I said βI can only scratch the surface this morning, but if ever you see me walking around here or in town, please ask me anything. But now i’ll try and sketch you a quick picture and give you a flavour of what happened⦔
βI went to the gym 6-7 days a week, played football most evenings and was quite violent, acting the tough guy. Β I wasnβt a Christian, i hadnβt been born again, or even been inside a church buildingβ¦soβ¦As i stepped out of the eye consultants office after being told iβd be blind for the rest of my life, it was out of character but i collapsed on the floor sobbingg my eyes out. And as my crying out got a little too loud they pulled me into a small empty roomβ¦.And this was the easy bitβ.
βFollowing this was pure isolation… all my football mates left me, i lost my job, my car and ability to do anything…i lost everything, i was completely broken, and on top of that i was left to my acusing thoughts βNobody wants you, youβre useless now, unwanted, rejected, unloved and unlovable!!β
Suddenly, as i was telling my story…
My mouth was silenced, an image of Jesus in Glory(Revelation 1) filled my mind, it wasΒ so clear(not blurred by my blindness)Β I could see His flaming eyes of judgmentβ¦thenβ¦the image changed, it was Jesus on the cross, now His eyes were filled with Mercy, Compassion & Grace, and while looking down straight at me he said βI did this for you, so that you can live. Iβ¦LOVEβ¦YOU!!!
I started sobbing uncontrollably, and it took a couple of minutes for me to try and start talking againβ¦.but more sobbingβ¦i was completely undone. But these tears were different!
I already knew He’d given His life so i could live. He’d come down so farΒ to save me it is immeasurable. His blood washed me clean, white as snow. He’s forgiven me all my sins, past, present and future, and there is no more condemnation for me, it is finished!
Iβd been Β praying for so long for God to βBreak my heart for what broke Hisβ and sang the songs many times, but rarely had i caught a glimpse of the true cost of His Love, and His free gift of Grace to those who Repent and Believe in Him. I knew He wanted me to share the True Gospel to people listening(and now reading), as it alone is the only Hope. It is the Power of God unto Salvation for anyone that believes.
Still sobbing, i continued…
My every word was a different pitch but i said βMy pit was so dark, my accusing thoughts were too heavy, and this led to a daily cycle of waking up and trying to kill myselfβ¦failing, which made me feel worseβ¦then drinking so much i could drown them out for the rest of the day, until i woke the next day, then it started again.Β
I didnβt have the strength to kill myself, and i didnβt have the strength to live…i was without God, and without Hope!
Nik, whoβs hand was rested on my shoulder asked question 4 “I know you were deeply unhappy at the time, what changed that?”
The world followed itβs pattern and sent me to Counselling, then Psychotherapy & finally Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, they didnβt work, they all had no answer for me, they couldnβt reach far enough down to pull me out. I needed a Saviour, I needed the light of the Gospel!Β
The Good News &Β Lovely Sarah…
Meeting Sarah changed my life! I have no idea how sheβs put up with me. Sheβs Β been so patient and long suffering as i tried attacking her Faith and this Jesus! But she kept on loving me. Sarah always seemed to have a rock to stand on no matter how bad things got for her, and i was being dragged deeper into the sinking sand. She always had this Blessed Hope that i didnβt,
Jesus worked through Sarah to shine the light of the Gospel, the Good News i was dying for.Β
Words failed me as i was trying to describe how much i love Sarah, so when my mind filled with thoughts of how far weβve grown together in loveβ¦i broke down again.Β
The sobbing was still making me pause every few words, but mentioned Jesus doesnβt want to see anyone perish, but he pursues you, He has come to seek and save that which is lost. He loves you and no matter how bad or hopeless you think you are, Heβll keep coming with His free gift of Salvation!
Nik asked Question 5 “some people would say that your life must be worse now, would you agree with them?”
Iβd gone way over my time slot, and i was almost pulled away from the mic as i was so overwhelmedβ¦BUT i knew these tears were not about me, or my losses. I had 1 focus and that was to share the Truth that sets us free. I had no feeling of sorrow or pain. I knew it must have seemed like this to the congregation, and i thought theyβd stick me in a counselling room when iβd finished!
The Holy Spirit was filling me like never before, and made the Power of the Gospel so real to me i almost exploded.
I continued βI wouldnβt agree with anyone who thinks(or measures) life by how good our circumstances are. Iβd lead them to 2 Corinthians 4 & 5 where it talks about living by Faith, not by Sight, and now that we are born again in the Spirit, we should walk by the Spirit. Not living for things that are seen which are temporary(like my sight loss), but living for the unseen which is Eternalβ
βI used to hate this song, but now iβd play it every service if i couldβ¦have you heard Amazing Grace, the Chris Tomlin version? If you pass me in the street youβll normally hear me singing or humming these words:”
“Amazing grace how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me.Β I once was lost, but now I’m found, was blind, but now I see. My chains are gone I’ve been set free. My God, my Saviour has ransomed me. And like a flood His mercy reigns. Unending love, amazing graceβ.
βIβve never seen so clearly since going blindβ This is one of my fave sayings.Β πΒ
Nik then walked me back to my seat next to Sarah. The church was completely silent, it had been silent since i first started sobbing. I could feel Sarah was upset as she didnβt react for a while, then she said βPeople kept on running up and passing me tissuesβ. Nik sat down next to Sarah, and Sarah said βYouβre not borrowing him again to speakβ.Β
After the service people came over and said they really connected with the things i said, although i think everyone thinks iβm back in dark depression again, lol.
He showed me the reality and Power of transformation in His Gospel, and how vital it is to share it, as Jesus is the Β Way, the Truth and the Life and no-one gets to Β the Father but by Him. Heβs the forgiver of Sins, breaker of chains, and the only Salvation for Eternal Life in Heaven.
John 3:14-21Β New King James Version (NKJV)
14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in Him should not perish but[a] have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
18 βHe who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. 21 But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.β
I felt i needed to share this post to try and explain a little more of what was happening to me, and maybe reach out to someone who is struggling with the creeping death called Depression,or who is just simply lost and without God, and without Hope.
Wow, i canβt believe itβs been 7 years since i posted this! I thought iβd repost as i think it could be interesting to the many more fantastic people who have followed this blog in the last 7 years. πΒ
A curious blogger asked me a fantastic question “Do you have a support worker or a friend to read these posts & comments to you? Or is there some other way?”
As my sight is too poor to read print, i use the built in synthetic voices on my iMac to read aloud every post, comment, scripture, quote & prayers. I made a short video so you can hear some of the different voices and get a little insight of how technology can be used to help blind people stay connected and share fellowship with you great people!
Please comment below with any thoughts and questionsβ¦Iβd love to answer them, no matter how random! πΒ

Hi friends!
We just wanted to send you a quick message to ask how youβre all doing during this challenging time?
Donβt forget we have a reason to sing with gratitude to the Lord every time we wake up to a new day filled with grace and mercy. Many times we forget to express our gratefulness in these busy, crazy and painful times. However, we can sing songs of thankfulness for Godβs goodness and make a joyful noise as the true Spiritual church.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Colossians 3:16 (ESV)
I do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins. (Colossians 1:9-14)
Stay safe and keep singing to the Lord! πΆπβ₯οΈ
Yours in Christ
Steve & SarahΒ
Ephesians 5:8Β Β (ESV)
8 for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light Β

Hi all. As most of you know, i play acoustic guitar alongside my lovely flutist Wife Sarah in churchβ¦But the time has come for me to meet my Nemesis!Β
My guitar teacher βHarry(best guitarist ever)”Β has just started me learning the song iβve been building up to over the last few years. Itβs called βClapβ by Steve Howe(see video below). This is a huge challenge for anyoneβ¦But as you know iβm registered blind and canβt see my fingers or the frets etc so itreally is “My Immense and Daunting Challengeβ.
I would like to write a follow up post around 2025 and i hope to be able to play at least a few bars of it, lol. πΒ
Just wanted to announce this milestone for meβ¦For you who play instrumentsβ¦What are some of the songs/music that have been your Nemesis? And is there any songs/music youβd still like to be able to play? Also for anyone out thereβ¦Do you have a challenge similar to this in any other areas of life? Iβd love to hear from you! πΒ
Β This week iβm celebrating 15 years since i met my lovely wife Sarah at βSight Village, Birmingham, UKβΒ
This is a major Sight Village show in Birmingham which is held in July each year. Exhibitors throughout the world take part and welcome many thousands of visitors, including people who are blind or partially sighted, professionals, business people and family members.
I was there (from Derby) working for a charity called LOOK and Sarah was there (from Surrey) working for RNIB. She came to my table as she had a magazine which she had just published an article about LOOK and wanted to show me. Sarah opened the magazine and said here are the pictures and the article, i said βWow, fantastic, it all looks greatβ which made Sarah quite proud of her work. I then said while laughing βyou know i didnβt see any of what youβve just shown me, as iβm blind!β. Then as always, a brief pause as Sarah checks out my eyes to see if iβm joking, then Sarah laughed and said βNo way, me too!β. We both approach blindness in a similar way and love blossomed from that point. π

π Bible Verse
Ephesians 5:25Β Easy-to-Read Version
Husbands, love your wives the same as Christ loved the church and gave his life for it.
π€ My Thoughts…Β
This is one of my favourite Bible verses that i try desperately Β each day to live up to. As soon as i first read this verse it convicted me straight away and i knew i wanted to be a husband like that!
π Prayer
Holy Spirit, thanks for being a constant guiding presence in my life. Give me the faith to take practical and radical action to keep in step with You, so that You can love my spouse through me in a way that will sustain a fun, loving & trusting relationship. Amen.
There is no more lovely, friendly or charming relationship, communion or company, than a good marriage. – Martin Luther

β§ Sarah & i β§Β
Each time our wedding anniversary comes round, i canβt believe how much our marriage has grown more and more fruitful. Our love keeps blossoming through every season and i thank God for Sarah.!
My heart overflows with love for her, she encourages, inspires and loves me in spite of all my faults, She is the sunshine that warms me along my journey. I really donβt have enough words to fully express how blessed i am to have my best friend as my wife to cherish and share every moment of this amazing life.
This is the chorus for the song i wrote for Sarahβ¦.
Youβre the love I thought Iβd never find,
Your smile is like the warm sunshine,
As our souls, slowly entwine!
You light the heavens in my mind!
Godβs Wordβ¦..
Husbands, you must love your wives so deeply, purely, and sacrificially that we can understand it only when we compare it to the love that Jesus Christ has for His bride, the church..
βYour love delights me, my treasure, my bride. Your love is better than wine, your perfume more fragrant than spices.β βSong of Solomon 4:10
βKiss me and kiss me again, for your love is sweeter than wine.β βSong of Solomon 1:2
βYou have captured my heart, my treasure, my bride. You hold it hostage with one glance of your eyes, with a single jewel of your necklace.β βSong of Solomon 4:9
βLove is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never failsβ¦β β1 Corinthians 13:4β8
I thank God for sustaining our marriage in Purity and Truth. AndΒ look forwards to more of this Brobdingnagian adventure!

Yay, Safe On The Dockβ¦.

Once we found and boarded our coach ready for our excursion to the Nutmeg factory, then on to the Chocolate factory..We settled in and Sarah took a lovely photo of the bay of Grenada. We came to the Nutmeg factory last year as itβs Sarahβs fave place, as the incredible smell of nutmeg fills her with warm memories of her Nan Peters when she used it in her cooking.

The Nutmeg Factoryβ¦.

After Sarah stocked up on Aloe Vera oils etcβ¦She had missed getting some of this last year when we had a similar tour…Our Tui tour guide showed us how the Cocoa bean is grown and how they produce it ready for the chocolate.

The Chocolate Factory…
Sorry but didnβt get any photos or videos of the factory. But the local Mango & Lemon punch was amazing and refreshingβ¦But that was a shadow of the ginger & dark chocolate bar! I saved it until we were back in the UK but i now wished iβd bought about 10 of them instead of 1, i think we need to go back next year!! π Β

Β π¨πΌΒ Welcome toΒ Willemstad, Curacao!!!

Β After we boarded the coach and met our tour guide, we drove past the islandβs salt flats and on to the Hato Caves that are full of stalagmites and stalactites.
Unfortunately as we arrived, and after climbing about 50 steep and uneven steps to the mouth of the caveβ¦It was way too dark for Sarah & i, so we had to carefully go back down the steps on a tactical withdrawal. On the plus side, we had a coffee in a lovely yellow local coffee shop. π Β

Next up, we headed over to the Chobolo Liqueur Factory, passing the Queen Juliana Bridge on the way. At the factory, we got to see how the islandβs famous Blue Curacao Liqueur is made. The drink is distilled from the dried peel of bitter oranges, and youβll get to taste it for yourself.
Sarah was excited to see where this drink was from and how it was made, as she and her friend Caroline used to like this drink back in the day.
Lastly, we headed back to the ship via downtown Willemstad and had a look around.
Β The shop, houses and buildings here were Sarahs fave of all! Wow those colours! We really couldnβt decide on a few photos, so we posted them all. Hope you enjoy!

Hi all! Thanks for joining Sarah & i on our Birthday celebration holiday, itβs great to have friends along for the ride.
Marella Explorer…
Unbelievably this is the Blind Sightseers 6th cruse! We have never been on the Marella Explorer and Sarah had booked cabin 8001 which is dead centre and right at the front of the ship. She chose this cabin as she thought the views from the window would be fantasticβ¦.Sheβs right again! πΒ
All it was missing is a steering wheel, lol.

Day at Sea…
Before getting to Aruba we had a day at sea. We were pleased with this as it gave us time to walk about 80,000 steps to find out where we could get Breakfast and the evening mealβ¦But most of all find the Coffee Port to see if they made lovely strong coffee!
Β π¦πΌ Aruba…
As usual we had booked an excursion for each of the 5 islands we were visiting and todays excursion is: De Palm Island – Full Day, Aruba.
De Palm Island has got it all. Set adrift off the Aruban coastline, this private reef offers up pristine waters and a huge variety of exotic marine life, itβs a first-class spot for an underwater exploration. Your day will start off with a short boat trip over to the island, where the friendly staff will be waiting to meet you. After a short safety briefing, youβre ready to slip on your mask and wade into the warm, clear waters. Expect to meet friendly blue parrotfish and angelfish. Back on dry land, thereβll be time to sprawl out on the sand, take your seat for a banana boat ride or visit the islandβs small waterpark before heading back to the ship. Don’t forget that a full buffet lunch and refreshments throughout the day will be included.Β

Β Yayβ¦It was the first time in a while that iβd been able to wear the bright orange shirt i bought in Saint Kitts from our first cruiseβ¦Read all about it here.
Β Sarah & i had a great time wondering around this beautiful little island and we also found our fave placeβ¦.The gift shop! We love to find some things that help us remember the amazing journeys/adventures we have conquered. Β
Back at the dock…
After a short boat ride back to the ship, we had enough time to get changed, leave our bags and have a well needed iced-coffee before heading out to explore as much as we can without getting lost before the ship leaves.
We walked up one street and turned right before Sarah stopped and said βWow, sheβs having her photo taken in front of that cool wall art/sign. Quick get one of meβ βOk my lovely, youβre wearing your new yellow Michael Kors t-shirt too, i hope i get everything inβ. Sarah had bought this t-shirt for our holidays and couldnβt wait to put on the lovely bright colours and flowers.

Β This is one of my fave photos as it shows Sarahβs smile is as bright as her t-shirt.Β
We have started collecting Christmas Tree Baubles too since i started going abroad 5 years ago. We love unpacking them at Christmas and filling the tree with all Β of the places we visit. We think its a lovely idea to fill the tree with our lives journeys and give thanks to God for everything.
Walking back to the ship we finally found a local Bauble makerβ¦Her daughter makes and paints them herself. We bought it(photo later when Sarah finds where we put them on our return home)
Our wonderful new friends…Β

Β Going back to our day at seaβ¦Sarah & i like to share a table with other passengers, mainly to take this opportunity to try and be sociable( being blind and trapped in your very small world & not having any eye contact itβs almost impossible to be sociable. or start conversations). So asking someone to read the menu for you because we are blind is a great ice breaker, lol!Β
We met 2 lovely couples that night and you will hear about them throughout this trip!

May all my thanksgiving overflow to the glory of God

β§ Me stood in front of Westminster Chapel β§Β
A few days ago Sarah & i finally got to visit Westminster Chapel. Iβve always wanted to visit since i first heard Dr Martyn Lloyd Jones preach via podcast and now on the MLJ Sermons iPhone app. As i listen to one of his sermons every night(there are around 1600 on the app) iβd always wanted to go and see.
Β The Chapel was closed but Sarah and i had a lovely Cappuccino in the Royal Quarters Cafe directly over the road.
Since iβm posting, I thought iβd add last nights sermon as i go through Ephesians(see Youtube video below) as it not only convicts and moves meβ¦.It also edifies and builds me up. Itβs solid meat and a huge feast every time as he never fails to feed the sheep.
Sinners in Hell are not the fools they were on earth!
(Charles Spurgeon)
“Then He will say to those on His left: Depart from Me, you who are cursed, into theΒ eternal fireΒ prepared for the devil and his angels!” Matthew 25:41
Sinners in Hell are not the fools they were on earth!Β
In Hell, they do not laugh at everlasting burnings.Β
In the pit, they do not despise the words, “eternal fire!”Β
The worm that never dies,Β when it is gnawing, gnaws out all joke and laughter.Β
You may despise and mock God now–butΒ death will change your note!Β
“Remember, you can laugh your way into Hell–but you can never laugh your way out of Hell!”
“Then they will go away toΒ eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life!” Matthew 25:46
Yayβ¦..We did it!Β
With more than a week pastβ¦.My knees are still scabbed and bruisedβ¦..But iβd like to give an Elephantine amount of thanks for everyone involved! πͺπΌΒ

β§From left: Adie, Vini, Me, Josie & AshleyΒ β§Β
First, Iβd like to give aΒ stupendous amount of thanks to my lovely Wife Sarahβ¦.The amount of love and encouragement was/is mind-blowing! Β And the βHard As Nailsβ teamβ¦..ββmy muscles were fading but the sense of team work was overwhelming and no matter whatβ¦..We were getting over those obstaclesβ.πͺπΌΒ
Second, iβd like to give a monumental amount of thanks to the βCrazy Clappersβ team. “When i’d finished an obstacle and was about to collapse……I’d hear the Cheering Team and you’d put a big grin on my face to remind me it was alright and to keep going! πΒ
Third, iβd like to give a gargantuan amount of thanks toΒ all of you guys for your donations to βWorld Cancer Research Fundβ and encouraging Β me(& the team) every step of the way! “Intention isnβt Preventionβ¦β¦And you all have helped me spread the good Β news with everyone so we can all be aware and empowered to start fighting the cancers we can prevent.βΒ
Fourth, A colossal amount ofΒ thanks to John & Sarah Atherton(from the Epsom Camera Club) for giving up your Saturday and taking the amazing photos of us allβ¦.Weβve got fantastic memories of the day!
Finally, I’ve already passed the whopping Β£1,000! The fundraising page is open for another 3 monthsβ¦..So if you havenβt donated yet or youβd like to donate again(now you know iβve managed it) it would be amazing to smash more obstacles and raise as much as i can! π πͺπΌ
Tough Mudder 5K – Saturday 13th Octoberβ¦β¦.Here Goes!

β§ From left: Adie, Me & Josie β§Β Β

Β β§ Me carrying Adie on the βHero Carryβ β§Β
It was amazing to have my friend of nearly 30 years Adie Monk join our “Hard As Nails” team. I thought we’d sit and catch up over a coffee….I didn’t have this in mind, lol!
Thanks John Atherton for taking another great photo. I can’t thank you and Sarah Atherton enough for giving us all these memories to cherish! π Β
After jogging a little, we came to thisβ¦β¦.
“At over 2 stories high, this is one of the most impressive obstacles in the UK. It is a giant A-shaped cargo net that you and your team will have to scramble up and over it. Working together will be the only way to overcomeβ.
Β

This is where my new trainers just hooked perfectly around the rope and it felt completely solid. Also my blindness helped me out for once as i couldnβt see how high i was, and didnβt freeze like a couple of people i heard up there!
Β Thenβ¦.When getting to the bottom i hear βYay, Whoop Whoop, Steve, Steve, Steveβ and the sound of the plastic clapper hands were going crazy! What a feeling to know my lovely Wife Sarah and the Crazy Clappers team were cheering me all of the way, a great feeling! π Β

Β β§ Me, Vini & Ashley biggin’ up the cheering team β§Β
More joggingβ¦.Adie and the team were excellent at guiding me when jogging. Moving low hanging branches, telling me of tree roots and pulling me in the right direction. Adie said βI tried running with my eyes closed for a few stepsβ¦And there is no way iβd try any of this if i couldnβt seeβ.
Thenβ¦..
βWe’ve taken the 10′ Hero Walls and tilted them right at you. By removing the ability for you to climb up and over this wall, you will have to form a strategy with your team, work together and boost each other to the other sideβ.

Β β§ Ouch, my leg hasnβt bent that far in about 20 years, lol! β§Β
More Joggingβ¦..
“This obstacle will have you crawling on the ground, pinned down by a giant cargo net. Working your way through this one will require lots of communication, teamwork and a strong willβ.Β

Youβve guessed itβ¦..More jogging and thenβ¦.
“The aim of the game is to get your team up and over this stack of super-sized hay bales. There is no right or wrong way so boost, shove or yank every last team member over the other sideβ.Β

β§ Ashley helping Josie in a display of team work β§ Β
Β Nextβ¦β¦.
“Can’t go through it, can’t go round it, you’ll have to go over it. Work together to boost and shimmy your teammates up and over this 10′ Tough Mudder stapleβ.

Β Yep, more joggingβ¦..
“Time to get swinging. Grab on, hold tight, feel the momentum and swing yourself from ring to ring like a regular Tarzan. This obstacle will test your strength, coordination and flow. Hang in there, you got thisβ.
Really didnβt do well on this oneβ¦And i canβt really blame my sight for lack of strength, lol!

 After a little more jogging⦅
“One of the most teamwork-inducing obstacles in the Tough Mudder portfolio, this obstacle is difficult to complete alone. You’re going to have to work together to form a human pyramid and, like its namesake, climb up and over your fellow Mudders on the way to the topβ.
As Vini was making everything look so easyβ¦..It was great to look at the photos afterwards and see it wasnβt all too easy!! πͺπΌΒ Β

Β AND NOWβ¦β¦MY NEMESIS!!!!
“A true Tough Mudder legend. Everest will challenge participants to run up a quarter pipe to reach the summit. Can’t do it alone? Not to worry – teammates are encouraged to hang over the top to pull their new friends up and overβ.
Β I knew this was going to be more difficult for me as i needed to try it and get hands on before i could calculate what exactly i needed to do. Adie & Ashley explained the processβ¦.But i knew i just had to do it before i would really knowβ¦.As running at a half pipe wall thingy when blind is going to be interesting!
Here Goes Nothingβ¦..

I took 1 step too manyβ¦.and before i knew it the wall was in my face! Ooooo i was so close to reaching the ledge. Β

After hitting the wall i dropped down on both knees, and as the obstacle was made of hardish tyre rubber, it simply burned and ripped the skin off both kneesβ¦.Wow that stings, lol. Time to regroup and recalculate!Β

“Ok Steve, just do the same but with 1 step lessβ. Here i go again!

Yayβ¦.Thatβs betterβ¦..And once i had my talon trainers gripped to the ledge, i could just heave myself up. Wow i made it! πͺπΌΒ

β§Β Ashley showing how it should be done!Β β§π Β

Β The team were fantastic and we all made it up. No-one was being left behind and you could just feel the team growing closer with each obstacle, it was amazing.Β

Β Now the final obstacle was overcome, it was time for a short jog to the finish line,Yay!Β
The Finish Line & The Headbandsβ¦…Β

Β WE DID ITβ¦…Β

β§ When words fail to say how thankful you are!!! β§Β

β§ Me, Adie & the headbands β§Β

WOW WHAT A JOURNEY⦅
I hope after getting this farβ¦..Youβve enjoyed this journey with me and the team too? They are already talking about doing a longer and more muddier one with more obstacles for next year. What do you think? Should i go for it? Would you like to see the Blindman take on a greater challenge? Let me know in the comments section what you think!
I canβt thank everyone enoughβ¦.
Wow….Bananaman is backβ¦.I really enjoyed wearing the superhero suit and cheering on the excellent runners at the Richmond Half Marathon forΒ World Cancer Research Fund UK! It was a fantastic day out with the team showing our appreciation for all of the wonderful fundraisers!
With only 27 days to go until my Tough Mudder and needing all of the cheering i can getβ¦..Iβll see if iβm still laughing, lol.Β πΒ

Me and my lovely Wife Sarah after a morning fundraising! πΒ
As a Cancer Prevention charity we were also giving away Bananas and sharing some great Banana facts as they help reduce your Cancer risk! I love Bananasβ¦..So here are a few random facts:
1. Are energy boosters
The natural sugars found in bananas (sucrose, fructose, and glucose) combined with fiber and potassium make it an energy-boosting snack. In addition, its levels of serotonin and dopamine improve antioxidant capacity and help with of oxidative stress, enhancing performance overall. So the next time you plan an extreme workout session, remember to eat two bananas before your workout.
2. Is useful for treating anemia
People who suffer from anemia need to ingest great amounts of iron which stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood. Bananas are not only a rich source of iron they also contain a high amounts of vitamin C which increases the absorption of iron. So if you suffer from anemia, you should consider including bananas in their diet.
3. Bananas float on water!
Please add any more Banana facts in the comments section belowβ¦..Iβd love to learn more! πΒ
Hi all, I’ve just received an email from my lovely Wife Sarah saying “just wondered if you could share this info on your blog’s to all of the super people on there for me??? Wonderful husband who I love Β :)β So here goesβ¦..
As you all may know alreadyβ¦..Sarah works for World Cancer Research Fund, you might have read about my Tough Mudder challenge (that Iβm training for at the moment) to raise funds and awareness for this charity.
“It would be great if everyone could promote our amazing new cancer health check on WordPress, Twitter and Facebook today and next week using the hashtag #HealthandCancer β it is such a valuable tool and we want to make sure that people get the most from it!”
Take the 5 minute diet testβ¦..
Β
Are you making yourself attractive to Cancer?
You may not be aware of all the lifestyle choices we make that can affect our cancer risk.
I canβt thank you guys enough for all of the support youβve given Sarah & i over the years!! Thank you and God Bless. πΒ
As a βBlind Photographerβ my sight is really blurry but i can just about frame a shot by the lines. I donβt often know what the lines of the objects are, lol. But itβs how i can get some good images now and then! πΒ

As i could get my hands on this guitarβ¦.I knew exactly what the lines were! lol.
I thought this weeks Photo ChallengeΒ was an ideal opportunity to post a photo of my Taylor K22ce acoustic guitar, which is made from the exotic tropical wood Hawaiian Koa. I just love the lines of this beautiful wood and never get bored looking at them.
Hi all. Itβs been quiet over here for a couple of weeksβ¦.As Sarah & i (the blindies) have been on holiday! π We tried a cruise and stay this time and had a fantastic action & adventure trip as usual, lol. We have just arrived home and iβve lots of photos to sort out which iβll post on here as soon as i get the days sorted out etc.Β
I must be the slowest holiday blogger of all timeβ¦.As i still have the last 2 cruises to post yet, lol But a huge thank you for all of your patience with me. I’ll post this holiday first and then work backwards for the other two!Β
Here a a few photo so far to give a little tasteβ¦..

The Weekly Photo Challenge this week is Favorite Place. I think itβs easy to say that the Caribbean Islands are our fave place to visit that are a long way from home. I love to see my lovely Wife Sarah relaxing, as she works so hard in super busy London and itβs great to go away and be recharged! π π΄βοΈΒ

Hi all!
People who know me?! know that Iβve been struggling and fighting all kinds of obstacles for the past 18 years since being registered blindβ¦..BUT Iβve never faced obstacles such as these.
I was recently challenged to do the Tough Mudder 5K by Sarahβs nail tech/artist Ashley, who works atΒ Ooh La La Hair & Beauty Salon.Β I chose the team name HARD AS NAILS and I’ll be competing and raising funds for one of my favourite charities –World Cancer Research Fund
World Cancer Research Fundβ¦..
My lovely wife Sarah works forΒ World Cancer Research FundΒ and I was stopped in my tracks by one of the statistics she showed me –Β That a third of all cancers can be prevented…Β that’s over 80,000 casesΒ each year in the UK alone. This totally blew my mind!
βWhat??? There are Cancers that I can prevent? I thought Cancer was something that you just got!”
Cancer is a terifying disease and most, if not all of us, either know or have known someone who has had or been affected by cancer.
Many believe that getting cancer is down to your genes, fate or just bad luck, but there are so many things you can do to reduce your cancer risk.
What you eat and drink, how much you weigh and how physically active you are can all make a big difference.
With our support World Cancer Research Fund will be able to learn more about how to prevent cancer – keeping loved ones together for longer.

Even when it rainsβ¦..Sarah brings the sun! πΒ βοΈ

Β Hi all, i wondered if youβd join me in thanking this remarkable young dude Vini! πͺπΌ πΒ
Vini has been my Gym Buddy for 7 months now and as a blind man trying to trainβ¦.I canβt tell you how much having Vini around to encourage, enable, spot and push me to not quit helps me on this fantastic new healthy journey. πΒ
Whatβs even more remarkableβ¦β¦Vini came to the UK 6 years ago when he was 11, and he couldnβt even say hello to me, as he didnβt speak any english at all! Now he can speak better english than me, as i have a thick Derby accent, lol. πΒ
Heβs now nearly a year into his A levels and can speak 3 languages so far as well as many other giftings.
I could go on and on, lolβ¦..But i just wanted to thank him for his dedication to training, and for not minding having an old blind guy following him around. He just keeps on giving and helping me to achieve my goals, even though heβs got lots on with school etcβ¦..And for everything he does and the excellent young man heβs becomingβ¦..Iβd like to give him a huge thanks! I feel so proud that he calls me βUncleβ. πͺπΌ πΒ
For this weeks photo challenge βExperimentalβ, i thought iβd go back a year and a half when Sarah & i were being “Experimental” with the iPhone Panorama mode. I thought iβd try and look calm in the start of the shotβ¦.Then run around the back of Sarah to wave in the end of the shot! I managed it eventually, lol. π Β

Hi all! First of all could you please check out my Brother Paulβs New Blog Here. He is writing about his mighty battle with weight loss and mental illness and it would be a real encouragement for you guys to say hi!Β
The London Eyeβ¦..
Paul has lost a huge 30 Stone (420lb) as i write this post. He came down on Wednesday and i met him at Waterloo station as he wanted to go on the London Eye. It was a great experience and i still canβt believe itβs happened(youβll know what i mean when you rea his blog). Β
We have a lovely photo of us together(below) which we can keep as a great memory of this milestone!Β Β

κ Me(left) with my Brother Paul on the London Eye κ
Boyce Avenue AT THE ROYAL ALBERT HALLβ¦..
Paulβs favorite band is Boyce Avenue and they were playing at the Royal Albert Hall, so after meeting Sarah from workβ¦.We headed of to see the band heβd waited 7 years to see. Paul always wanted to go to a concert of Boyce Avenue but could never go as he was stuck inside his flat for years! But now the moment is here!

κΒ The Royal Albert Hall at night κ
Paul had a fantastic evening and it was a dream come true!! I was so blessed to be apart of his special day and iβm so proud of him.
I’m looking forwards for more milestone events to come! πΒ
